Sometimes it's also call a WiFi Repeater, WiFi Booster and also a WiFi Extender. This makes a great WiFi Extender for Gaming that is sure to improve your gaming fps. The best part is that this Netgear wifi extender or NETGEAR repeater setup is easy when you follow my video suggested steps. Does my video show you how to do a NETGEAR extender setup without spending a whole day in doing it? Absolutely!.
This NETGEAR AC1200 extender/wifi repeater is small and plugs into any AC 110v wall socket in the world. The WiFi repeater connects with your existing WiFi router in no time at all. Plus you don't even need to be directly connected to it via a Ethernet cable or even in the same room. It connects and allows you to setup the WiFi connection to your WiFi router wirelessly to your home or business wireless router.
Keep in mind that this video tutorial on WiFi repeater review and WiFi repeater setup is very short but straight to the point. You can also use the Ethernet port/LAN port (RJ45) on the side of wifi repeater to connect those devices that have no wireless ability and must connect via a LAN cable. Like some older LAN printers or desktop computers and Play Station PS2, PS3, PS4 that will work faster when using a cable connection.
Some important things to remember are:
1) If your WiFi repeater is to close to your main router, they will compete against each other's signal since they are both on the same WiFi channel, 1,6, or 11. So you must distance the WiFi extender far enough away to so the channels don't overlap each other. This will only slow down your LAN/WLAN. Hence, defeating your reason for installing a Wireless-n WiFi repeater to begin with!
2) I believe in surge protectors. Put your wireless repeater on one. Protect it against power outages and AC surges. You might just call it network or electronic insurance, just like car insurance or auto insurance for your box. Don't let the power company kill your new WiFi repeater extender during the night or day when you are not home.
3) Set up can be done by a laptop, computer desktop/tower, tablet or cell phone with WiFi connectivity with an Internet Browser. But it can also be done by a hard wired RJ45 LAN cable too. See my last note for instructions on how to use a RJ45 cable for setup.
4) Don't allow yourself into thinking that this is a WiFi router. A WiFi repeater router, a network WiFi repeater extender are two entirely different dogs. A router routes internet information and the other extends and/or repeats the information on a network that a router routes from the Internet out onto your network. Think of this device more as a WiFi range extender. Some times it's also refer to as a router range extender, a repeater extender, wifi booster extender or wireless router extender. But they all just repeat your wireless signal halfway between your wifi router and where you want to set up shop. How to Expand Your Wireless Range across your house or yard using this cheap made in China no name no brand Wireless repeater for all your computer devices including cell phones.
Here are my thoughts and review about this WiFi repeater from NETGEAR:
1) It feels and looks solid and well built.
2) It's an Easy WiFi Extender to install and setup.
3) The signal strength is strong and constant. Normally get 3 to 5
WiFi bars on this WiFi repeater when placed mid way between the main home WiFi router and the WiFi laptop, desktop, tablet, Play Station, mobile phone and wireless devices.
4) The NETGEAR AC1200 range extender EX6150 was price below $100.00.
5) The display LED lights on this wireless repeater are bright, clear and easy to read.
6) No over heating issues. Barely gets hot.
7) Is this a excellent and best wifi extender for gaming with improved FPS? Yes!
8) Does it eliminate Wi-Fi Dead Zones? Yes.
9) Do I like it? Yes! Would I buy it again? Yes!
Keep in mind that this NETGEAR Repeater works with all NETGEAR WiFi routers and mostly all other brands of WiFi routers too. Наука

hey nick - thank you - I just bought this extender today at best buy & all my sales buddies there said this would be easy but I am not IT saavy at all. they told me to download the app, follow the quick start brochure, log into my existing netgear router account and it all sounded completely confusing and I was sure I would be returning this extender because I couldn't figure out how to install it. fortunately for me, I found your youtube video, followed it step by step and wah-lah, I am hooked up and my bedroom tv which was not getting a good signal is good to go. thank you so much for your help.
Glad to hear my video tutorial on the NETGEAR AC1200 Extender got you up and running with your TV. Thanks for your feedback. 👌😎
Can this also be set up to automatically switch from the hub to this extender like if I go out side it would just pick it up without having to put in a pass word
Hi Nick, Thank you very much for the step by step setup, clear, concise and right to the point. Thanks

Hi what is the signal on the normal network at the same location where you did the test at the end ?
Wonderfully explained! Thanks a ton!
You're very welcome!
I got a ac1200 dual band WiFi mesh extender and I want to set it up with my at&t router but having problems I’m also using the nighthawk app on my apple phone. Any ideas would be helpful
Thank you! That was very helpful.
thanks for the time to explain the install process. it helped lots, THANK YOU!
You're welcome. 👌😎
How is this working for playing online games(multiplayer) and internet? Is it good? Im thinking of buying it and connecting it to my pc with ethernet port.
That was good. Straight to the point. Nice job. Netgear ought to hire you.
Thank you very much for your comment. 👍

Great Review! Thank you!
You're the man thank you very much. I'm trying to play call of duty with the router upstairs, I forgot I had this thing lying around from a couple years ago but I had no idea how to set it up and when I did..Bam no lag.. you R # 1

I was hoping to see more time spent going over the AC plug...LOL seriously, thank you.
I don’t get how to use it ::
Trump Wilson it’s not working
LMAO!!!! Badda Boom to funny.
Thank you for being so clear. Great!
Thanks for watching!
Hey, thanks for the vid!
Was wondering if you would know how it will work if you set it up in a deadzone?
Initially, I thought it would be set up with two units through powerline to reach a deadzone.
Or can you only set it up within range of the main wifi, and then daisy chain to extend?
Cheers
Best location for the Extender is about mid way between your WiFi device and your primary wireless router.
i’m not a big tech person, but i know my way around things most of the time. However, I don’t see my extended working the same as yours. May I kindly ask for your help?
great video. very helpful. thanks,
Perfect video thank u so much❤️
Excellent tutorial. Well organized and well presented.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your great feed back!
Does the Client Link LED light have to stay on at all times? I'm currently working off my a (5GHZ) for this extender.
You could use some black electrical tape?
Great video. Explained, in detail, and very slowly. Even gave which password to use.
Thanks! Always nice to hear great feedback on my videos! 👍😎
Thank you so much, this was reeeeeeaaaaaally easy
What if you just want to extend a printer signal to be found by iphone?
Can this do it?
Please only reply if you have done this WITHOUT an existing wifi.
I live ina separate brick granny flat on a property , the main house has wifi and I'm wondering if I can still get a wifi signal in the granny flat either with or without a range extender.
This was super helpful! Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful! ✔😎
Oh shoot this man is responding to comments so fast and this video is 3 years old sub and like

@@nickscomputerfix hey 👋 once this is set up and connected to an outlet can I use that ethernet port to a say a game console to make it wired instead of wireless?
Nick, I bought this for better gaming experience and for updates on my ps4 can take well over 10 hours will this reduce the time and make playing online enjoyable without the lag? please respond.
I have a 400k fiber optic line from Unitymedia, the WiFi box is in my room & when I do a test 400K arrive, but if I then connect the amplifier and put it in the hallway, I have worse WiFi even though I am inside the original WiFi what is in my room, that is, the Netgear amplifier brakes my 400k line, you can help me
This worth a buy then? I’m only getting like 20mbps the router is down stairs and I’m upstairs at the other end of the house ?
Thanks! Excellent video
Glad you liked it!
Now this thing received an update and can be used has a Mesh Extender! Worth every penny.

yes i need this since it got an Ethernet thing on the side which helps me a alot with big files downloads streaming etc
Great tutorial easy job thx
Cheers that’s was simple and easy
Thanks for your input.
First of all, great video. Question, and I hope you can get to this very soon as I want to purchase one of these. How far should this extender be from the router and how far will this extender reach? Also, does the extender pick up on a weak wifi signal or a dead zone? Thank you
Extender location is the primary key to getting the best signal quality out of any extender. You might experience interference problems, for example: thick walls or floors, other electronic equipment or extender might be to far away from router...etc. Test until you find the best sweet spot somewhere mid way between your Primary Router and your Wifi device connecting to the extender. This will give you the best consistently solid signal quality from the extender.
Thank you Nick for your quick reply. Our extender will be here on Thursday.
@@karenogden7403Another trick with placement is to use your mobile phone as signal strength meter. If you have a smartphone, there are tons of apps to try. Personally, I've had good luck with "WiFi Analyzer" by farproc.
Thanks for the vid im thinking of getting this extender, if i plug my laptop into the ethernet port which like your laptop is only 2.4 ghz is it like plugging my laptop into the router ?
Correct, you will be connected to the Internet.
@@nickscomputerfix thanks Nick will i get similar speeds as if i was plugging directly into the router. My 2.4 gz signal gets throttled by my ISP im in Australia.

For gaming, a powerline adapter is the best for its wired ping time. Bandwidth isn’t as important but I still got DLink AV500 WiFi extender kit
Nice tutorial bro. May i ask if its possible to connect the extender to 5 ghz band main router only and broadcast 2.4ghz band only? Have you tried it? Thanks
You can broadcast just 2.4ghz if you want by unchecking 5ghz during the setup.
Hmm. WTF does it need you to setup an account? Surely the OS and settings should be on the device itself unless it's OS is in the cloud only?
Hallo a question
My ps4 is asking for a proxy. I don't know what that is.?
Hi yes I'd like ask what is the best possible way to use the WiFi router of the Netgear extender you see I have stone wallss in my house I'm upstairs most of the time.and..my signal gets really weak and.i can't.conmect some.times.so infony what's best too use what the difference is for access point be used or other way of the extender thanks listening
You can use it either as a wireless Extender or hardwired AP. Every house and building is setup differently. It's a matter of setting it up and seeing which method works best for your structural building layout.
I tried the set up but it only lets me creat an access point. There’s no option for WiFi range extension.
Hey, hope you can help. Can I do the initial set up on an tablet through chrome? It's a newer Samsung type tablet best buy tells me it is compatible with my provider an router
Yes.
Excellent video, did EXACTLY as noted all steps went successfully through except the last one when it was the time to actually get an internet signal from the extender and it failed. Maybe my router no good, but it works good without extender so not sure what's not good.
1) Try moving the extender closer to your router/modem. 2) Try performing a extender reset and go through the setup again. 3) Also ensure that you are using your correct WiFi password during the extender setup when connecting the extender to your router.
I have a question my apartment offer free WiFi for residents to connect their devices I can get a connection in the kitchen and bathroom to a extend what devices I need to bring the free WiFi alway in my apartment
Yes the Extender will extend your WiFi further in your apartment.
Thank you your video assured me I did it right thanks!
Excellent!
thanks for the review. very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Today I just purchased this exact same model, the AC1200, but they've certainly changed the design. Mine is literally about half the overall size of yours. In fact mine is actually almost perfectly square, and only about 1/3 the overall size, not at all the elongated rectangle yours is. Not to mention, the light configuration on the front is quite different as well. It makes you wonder why they'd use the same model number when clearly they've changed the design so much.
pretty sure u got a different product m8
@tohuss Mine arrived today and is the exact same as listed above. This was an older video so they have changed them. I double checked all the info thinking I received the wrong one and it matches the video. He is correct. The shape etc that he listed is different now.
Hello
Can I add multiple extenders sites in my house to my current extender and router to gain stronger WiFi signal. My current extender an router are located in the basement and I have 3 floors... if I can add a extender to the third floor what is the process or can I just plug it in the wall and it automatically connects
You can have multiple extenders on a home network. However, they can not be daisy chained together. Each Extender must connect wirelessly or via Ethernet cable directly to your wifi router.
I will not connect to the existing wifi connection at the start of the setup. Any help?
Ever figure it out a year later?
Omg thank you so much!!! Really helpful! I have one question, am I able to take it off then put it on another room? Will I have to do the process over again?
Yes you can relocate and no you will not have to go through the setup again, unless you upgrade your WiFi router with a different one.
Thank you 👍✌️
If I stay at a shed which is like 70 feet from my house and without any wifi connection, could this Netgear be able to get a decent connection at least?
My shed is 100yds from my house - my old Netgear 834G router gives a full signal from an upstairs room.
Otherwise, try this- it's miraculous ... www.amazon.co.uk/KuWFi-Outdoor-Adapter-Antenna-Wireless/dp/B07C9RTSXQ/ref=sr_1_1?ke
Does this have to stay on 24/7? I ask because I’m having to buy one for work/school from home and am trying to reach a room that will only be used during those times. Should I disconnect it every time it’s not in use? Would that change anything?
I keep mine on 24/7. However, it's your choice.
Would I be able to use this extender for my PS4 using a LAN cable to pair the two up
Sure can.
What does factory reset do and how do I press the button for it? I need to know because the extender doesn't want to connect to my routers even tho it was working perfectly fine 2 days ago. My wifi is fine, it's just the extender doesn't want to connect to it.
Suggestions: 1) You most likely will need to perform a repeater reset again by using the RESET button (press and hold for a REAL 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. 2) Also when setting it up, it's important to double check that you are using the correct wifi password to connect to your router/modem with the Extender during set up or you will not be able to make a connection to your new WiFi Extender or have no Internet connection.
Can you tell me, if I get this and it works, can I use the Ethernet Port from the Extender direct to my Smart TV to increase my Smart TV connection speed? My Wifi Router/Modem is 150 Mbps. What speeds could I effectively see with this Extender approximately 20 feet away, through two walls? My Smart TV Wifi is picking up only 7-10 Mbps. I want it to be faster for streaming 4K videos. Thoughts? Thank you.
That’s what I’m doing.
Perfect, thanks 👍
Do you know if you can add more than one to the home for multiple "repeaters"?
Yes you can.
Do you happen to know if it will configure itself off the first one?
👌 Thank you!
I Need Help! The extender wifi is not showing up! The netgear ext never showed up to me. Please help
I can’t get the WiFi to connect to show up on my computer. I am contenting to a at&t router by the way
Dang I’m also having the same problem
Can I use this just to get an ethernet cable to connect my Ps2 or Xbox to play online? Thanks
Once the Extender is connected to your WiFi router you can connect an Ethernet cable to it and to your game devices.
I recommend to invest on a longer lan cable if you’re looking to extend WiFi to a certain area. I had one of these, tried using it but every 40min the connection would drop. I searched everywhere to figure out what was the problem but I figured it was the hardware and the firmware literally did nothing.
Anndi same!! Don’t get it like wtf do I do?
Any idea as to why my Router Link LED light flashes green rather than staying constant?
It should be solid and not blinking: Solid green Best connection > Solid amber Good connection > Solid red Poor connection> Off No connection.
Hey should I get 6 Netgear AC 1200 WiFi extenders?
check on speed test in router mode please
Perfect explanation! Loved it. Easy to follow and understand. Thank you!
Great to hear! Thanks for your great feedback! 👍😎
I have a question do you have to plug it into a wall or can I plug it into a extension cord
Electrical wall outlet.
thanks mate, appreciated
👍😎
Does the ethernet port on this unit allow you to hardwire this extender to your router?
Absolutely.
Thanks my dude
So no need to hookup yhe ethernet cable to it? Just plug it to any outlet?
Correct, it's connects wirelessly to your wifi router/modem.
Great Vid. Can I extend signal via
lan(CAT5E) cable? Signal is to low back
in my garage. Approx 80ft away.
You can absolutely use the Ethernet port on the Extender and connect it with CAT5 cable (within 328 feet) to a Ethernet port on any computer device.
Thanks but let me clarify my question. Can I use netgear wifi extender with lan CAT5E cable point A being home router switch to point B netgear extender to boost signal. My garage is to far for extender to function properly.
Yes, you can set it up as a AP (Access Point) configuration. This is when your Extender (point B) is connected to your primary Wireless Router (point A) by cat5 cable. It's east to do, but you will need to set the extender up in the configuration to work as a AP and not as a Repeater. To do this I suggest you perform a repeater/extender reset by using the RESET button (press and hold for a real 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video and configured it as a AP Access Point and not as a Extender. To learn more on how to go about setting it up as a AP, Google keywords: NETGEAR AC1200 Access Point setup.
excellent video. thank you
Thanks for your kind feedback. Please subscribe if you have not already done so, to get informed of my latest videos when they are uploaded.
Instead of creating a new network name, can I setup the extender with the same name as my router?
You sure can.
Awesome tutorial 👌
Thanks 🙂
I had lots of success with this product until today where I had to change my WiFi password and it diconected the exTender. I had a lot of trouble and ended having to restart the whole login process, but when I am doing this the part where I can choose which WiFi I want to connect to doesn’t show. Any ideas why?
Since you changed your wifi password on your router the Extender doesn't know that you did, and so it's not able to connect to your router again. Best and quickest way to resolved this is to perform a repeater reset by using the RESET button (press and hold for 12-14 seconds) while it's plugged into a wall outlet and power is on, then release the RESET button and go through the setup steps again as shown in my video. Also, you might want to try a different browser too.
Hi I had a question do you need a laptop or computer to set it up or can you use a phone
You sure can use your phone to setup the Extender.
Nick, Thank you. clear, concise with no BS. I appreciate the straight to the point method you employ. It makes it easy for some like me who is not so computer literate. Thank you, again.
Glad my video helped you out. Thanks for coming back and leaving your feedback. Subscribe if you would like to see more great videos like this one. Click on the Bell icon to get alerts.👍😎
So there is no need for a wps button because my modem does not have that option?
Correct, setup can be done without using WPS button.
How do I connect via Ethernet while using it as an extender ?
I wanna use Ethernet for my pc but still have the extender connected to my exsisting network via WiFi
For any non wifi device all you need to do is plug directly into the Ethernet port on the extender. Nothing else to do. It's plug and play and no driver to install. Of course this is after setup is completed as shown in my video.
@@nickscomputerfix after the setup I had to disconnect the wire & then plug it back in :)))
The only thing is I’m pretty sure I can’t disable the WiFi adapter on my motherboard since the adapter needs a signal to the router & back to my pc
Could the same SSID as the network you want to extend be selected as the SSID for the extender? If so, would this be considered the "same network" (when using products like Chromecast, Philips Hue, etc)?
Yes, however it will become confusing for all your devices when attempting to connect to your network. It will also be a sub network off of your existing network.
@@nickscomputerfix Thanks for the input! I also hypothetically solved that problem. I was going to set one up with the same SSID, since my devices will have to be on the same WiFi ..but it didn't cross my mind I could just switch those devices to that extended WiFi connection.
I have another question you might be able to answer. Would this range extender work with Xfinity's xFi gateway?
I did some reaserch, the set up looks straight forward enough (I'll be using it as an extender and not a repeater). But some people seem to be having issues with it connecting to certain routers; and Xfinity's routers are one (rather a few) of them.
Thanks!
It will virtually connect to just about any router, but I have not tested it on a Xfinity router. You might want to give Xfinity a call and see what they have to say.
@@nickscomputerfix I talked with an Xfinity agent, so take this with a grain of salt lol.
They said they have no info regarding compatibility with the EX6150, but they did say the EX7500 is compatible.
I'll test it out. I think the set up is similar enough, so your guide will still be useful!
Maybe I am looking at this wrong. My goal (the way I visualize it) is to connect the extender to the router via ethernet cable.
Any tips for this implementation?
Unclear why the Netgear people indicate you can simply plug this in, press the WPS button on the extender and the Router and bingo, you're connected. Does that not work? Seems a lot simpler if you plan to use default name and PW.
Much appreciated!
Glad to help!
