In this video I'll show you what I think is the best way to extend your wifi signal to those areas of your house that have little or none! This is an answer, and maybe THE answer you are looking for.
Thanks for watching another video by The General Expert. Stay tuned, my videos are getting better and better as I go. Please don't forget to subscribe and hit the thumbs up if you like what I'm doing!

Been using this for a year now.
Pros: easy set up, cool tech.
Cons: once you have several electrical equipments turned on, it will cause interference with the data transfer via the power line and your internet speed will degrade significantly. Also, the second outlet will broadcast a different SSID from your main router. Conversely, with a repeater, its the same SSID.
P/s: you're not supposed to place an extender/repeater where there's barely signal. You're supposed to place it halfway through, and it works like a charm.
Apparently he really not an expert after all. Thanks for sharing that tip
I bought TP-Link TL-WPA4220 Kit from Amazon and set it up yesterday and it works great. Brings the signal to all the dead areas and now everything works much faster and cameras come on faster too. Thank you General Expert!
After trying almost everything, I was about to just start running Ethernet cables throughout my entire house, you saved me probably 20 hours of my life and about 20 potential holes I would have intentionally and unintentionally put in my walls and ceilings
so u need to buy 2 tp links? or u just buy one and plug it in the area where wifi is bad
I was planning to run ethernet cable from living room to game room and this guy saved my time and effort
Tried that before, signal degrades badly, very bad
@@Robbiedoesitbest I think it comes as a kit.
First device, is plugged into your router with an ethernet cable. Second device, is plugged into another area of your house, and broadcasts the wifi network name for you to connect to.

Ok...so I got it in the mail today! Easy installation (plug and play). And the speed in my bedroom is fast now. Oh I could just hug you for this. Thanks so much!!!!!!
Glad to be able to help.
The General Expert That's great for that situation, but "What's sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander."
And so we "keep on cookin'"
What model # did you get? N300?
morris elizabeth that's so good to know! I'm going to order mine :)
@@GeneralExpert How did you get this to work? I've tried both TP Link and Netgear extenders. I could get the extender to connect to the Linksys router but when I connect to the extender there is no internet signal.
Thank you ! Your video was the most relevant to my problem and I love your explanation simple and easy
...and now my feedback after trying it out. Product actually works! Love it! Thanks for this video!
Okay. I see your feedback. Thanks.
@@MoncurDA Still working in 2020?? Serious Question
@@J.T.19134 well no ahah
@Mannie Illescas why is he a dipshit? These things are known for only working for so long
My god man, you're a lifesaver.
Saw this the week after I fixed this exact issue at my house with an $18 extender from the big A. Works great.
I just purchased this product and it works PERFECTLY!! THANK YOUUUUU!
So glad it worked for ya. I was astonished when I first learned of this too!
How many Ethernet cables does it come with?????
Vinh Nguyen It came with 2 cables.
Doug V. when you bought it, did you buy it for 59.99 or the original price?(79.99) I just want to know when the sale started
Vinh Nguyen when I bought it, it was 49.99.
i also purchased the same product. awesome man. works perfectly as i had the same issue. dont you love you tube. im in Australia and you have helped me from the other side of the world. technology is the bomb.
Thanks so much for posting this! After watching it I bought one for use in my garage workshop. It works great!!!! Instant Wifi. Couldn't be easier! I got a lightly used one on ebay , with original box, for $25 shipping included. Thank you for sharing this easy solution!
You should have your own show. You are a great communicator.
I LOVE IT when people have the same problem as me!
+FinnishArmy @The General Expert Doed it still work in 2018? Or you have an update version/new way of doing it? Thanks
Hence the expression “misery loves company.”
John James why would a couple years make difference? It still works
I also have the same problem as you
You can use it outside in your garden if u have an external power outlet. I get wi fi out in the garden in summer.
I was thinking of getting a new router but this made me buy a powerline. Holy.. the connection is way better! Thanks for the comfirmation!
He had me sold on the powerlines too! Lol, it made me rethink getting into Computer Networking and being an electrician.
I work for an ISP and its refreshing to see someone go out and fix the problem themselves.
I LOVE THE WAY YOU EXPLAINED THAT!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
He look like the 3rd brother from the Property Brothers.
lmfaoo right
Hahahaha
But reviews
HILARIOUS!!!!!
YO HE DO THOUGH
Oh gosh..this video is from 5 years ago but its the only one that I found today that has been the most helpful and informative! Thank you so much!! Same problem here😚
Use Mesh.
damn, i didnt even notice this vid is 5 yrs old. i wonder how much better this product has gotten
Solid video. Thanks for the excellent information. Wish you all the best!
Thank you I tried so many dual bands that only work through wifi/wireless signals and the ranges are so weak but this product runs through power like fiber which is way better and gives you the flexibility to put it wherever you want
Yes I had exactly the same problem. I've used this answer for the last 3 years it works great. You will be very happy with the result's.
How do u get it connected to the wifi
5 years later and I am just now hearing about this?! This thing sounds seriously cool and I cannot wait to try it out!
DigIntoEverything how is it?
How was it?
For those wondering they work pretty well! For my specific use case it didnt turn out as well as I had hoped but Im trying to stretch wifi between two houses over 40ft apart. Too many walls and such creating too much interference. Im sure if you had a great router to begin with and then used the extender you would be fine!
Dude this guy is a life saver man. I Just got it in the mail today, tried it out and what can I say this thing is flipping awesome👍. I get the best signal out of everyone in my home love.
Super helpful. Didn't know about this and I have been looking for options to extend my wifi for some time with no avail. I am also frugal and this falls in line with that very well. Thanks for the vid
"You Da Man!" Love your enthusiasm....I was thinking the same thing.....I'll buy 300 ft of cable , drill a hole to the outside of my house, go around to the front , drill another hole into my son's room , blah blah blah. Started my research, saw your video and bam....I immediately bought one.....Simple solutions to complex problems!.....I'll say it again, "You Da Man!"
What’s the products name and did it work effectively??
Sorry to be offtopic but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
@Leonardo Parker instablaster ;)
@Jaylen Damari Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jaylen Damari it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account!
Great video. Thank you for sharing this with us - much appreciated!!!
I've been looking for this for a little while now. My granddaddy used to have an intercom system in the '70s that used this same technology. So, unfortunately it isn't new, but still is cool. Surge protectors and transformers tend to impede the signal. The only downside that I know of for this product is that susceptible to power surges or lightning strikes. Otherwise this product is GREAT! Thanks again for the video.
Almost nothing more exciting these days then to get more WiFi speed, lol. Thanks bro, very good video.
Thank you so much! Bought this product and it saved my life!!! 100% works! I have wifi in my room now!
Which 1 did you buy?
You are so exited about this that I will not question it at all, I'm buying it. I hope TP-Link sponsores you haha. Hola from Mexico :)
No sponsor. Just thought it was cool.
Yo también lo voy a comprar jajaja salu2
You were the most helpful person I could find! Thank you so much!!
Great explanation for those of us who are not tech-savvy. Ordering one right now.
That is f* awesome, I bought one a day after seeing your video (cs that's exactly what I needed) and it works perfectly. Thx dude
What brand?
Can I ask does it just extend the wifi or does it speed up the wifi, too? I'm confused here...😣
@@RG-hf4et take it as a Ethernet but its using power lines to communicate
So shortly: no it doesn't extend WiFi
No it doesn't speed up WiFi
You saved my life lol!!! Cheers!
Holy cow ! Just plugged in my tp link powerline adaptor and cant believe the speed! Thank you very much. Internent was litteraly dead on my bed. Now its fully alive and active. Thanks again!!!
How did u get it connected tho ? Like what’s the code
Thanks for the advise I ordered the product and hope it works great.
thank you for the great help now i can finally get better wifi signal in my bedroom :D
Thank you sir you just answered my Wi-Fi prayer to my problem.
I just installed this (install is probably to descriptive just plug and play lol) this tonight. Works like a charm!
Thank you so much for your review and feedback. It helps us non tech people out a lot.
Great advice got one this thing fixed my lag issue on my PS5 💪🏾
What's your normal speed compared to the power line speed? Do you have any higher ping?
Thanks man, my PS4 finally works in my room!
Just got it and works perfectly. I'm very happy with it. Thanks a millon.
Dude, thank you so much for posting this! This is such a first world problem but my WiFi situation was horrible at my house and this has solved it 100%. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
+Mike Daly no prob!
Thanks to you, I have found the light! A replica modern with ports to my laptop and PS4
To Mike H Thank you, I bought one that was on the internet, I m I have a disability, can't quite bend overBUT a Friend is coming over to do the install your description of yours sounds like mine, I ll let you know, if not you know where I m headed . I LL WRITE DOWN YOU PUT ON THE TOP
These things work pretty damn good I've had mine going for about a year now, no problems.
Most of the reviews on Amazon are pretty good with this product. Although I tried it and it didn't do jack for me in my house. And yes, I did plug in both units directly in to wall outlets per product instructions.
Thank you brother your advice really helped me I did a few things you said and there's no more lagging thanks
Thanks for making this video. Really appreciate it. God bless you.
The dog on the couch is like "Dude, wtf are you talking to?!"
me?
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS VID.
thank you so much man, im excited too. going to try it. im in the exact same situation!
I can totally confirm this guys assessment, I use this TP-link home plug system and its great, I've been using it for a couple of years now and no problems and the price is lower than most of other well known brands.
I need better wifi in my detached garage that's 40' behind my house. Shouldn't the signal travel from a receptacle near my router to a receptacle in my garage? I used to have good coverage from the house router until I switched providers and now I have a very poor signal strength and netflix and youtube buffer.
Will it work with a Firestick? Thanks
so u need to buy 2 tp links? or u just buy one and plug it in the area where wifi is bad
By seeing these comments and the video I'm definitely getting one of these after I finish my exams. Tired of playing on laggy connection.
+Saeed Ghassemzadeh Na I didn't buy it but I'm gonna buy it soon. It's good I've heard good reviews. Just make sure your house has a single electrical connection to all the units otherwise it's not gonna work
same i can never play a full game without lag (overwatch)
darebear_15 Get it, it's completely worth it
+coolamazon123 thx ill definitely get it
+darebear_3 eyes trollolololololooloo
I think you just SOLVED MY ISSUE, I will get back to this video, after i try it out
Man this sounds great I definitely need one I hope it works as good as you described.
I LOVE THIS TYPE OF VIDEOS. WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
I ordered the ethernet cable version, I'll assume the speeds will be the same or even faster except with the hassle of a few cables.
was it the same? im deciding between the ethernet 2 kit n300 or just the regular 2kit n300
I ethernet cable everything. Ipcams tvs wifi ext
We got cable company glitch problems and had reboot everything on wifi and reset pw
No problems w/ ethernet connected devices when internet comes back on
Link please
Hard-wired also has an important security feature - NO hacking. WIFI routers are so easy to access, it is not funny. Password encrypted, no problem. Windows has a built-in method to access the router and get the decoded password with just one command.
Thank you!! Hope it works, just ordered one!
This is a great product I've had one years and it works a treat 😁😁
You should show us on you speed test app with and without the product
Yall stop roasting him i cant lmao 🤣
Thanks for your video. I hope you are right. I just ordered one
Thanks so very much for sharing. I have the same problem. Hopefully, I'll be as lucky as you, and solve the problem.
If you had an old router you could have used the DD-WRT firmware to configure it as a repeater, capture the signal from the main router and rebroadcast to dead spot. the latest video on my channel shows how to easily achieve this. A very cost effective fix. Awesome video though, love the explanation man.

The reason why you shouldn't plug it into a surge protector is that is can slow the speed of the powerline connection and therefore ur not getting what u paid for which is why they say its best not to. i know this from a personal experience :-)
Say these powerline adapters are rated at 500Mbps. If he plugs it directly into a wall socket he may get say 250Mbps. If he plugs it into a extension lead it may slow down his powerline network to 150Mbps. 150Mbps is still more than enough to share his 30Mbps internet connection. So in such a case it really doesn't matter where it is plugged in.
Also note that the ethernet ports on these powerline adapters are only rated as fast ethernet (100Mbps), so as long as your powerline speed is above that you're not really losing anything.
So if you have a free wall socket you should use it but if not plugging it into an extension lead is often okay too depending on how fancy the extension lead is. Just give it a go and test the speeds :)
Quinn This is funny!
Quinn wifi signals don't travel through power lines, they travel through the air. These little boxes grab a weaker wifi signal transmitting information, take the same exact signal and make it stronger.
Actually Andrew, nothing about what Quinn said is false. What you said on the other hand, is inaccurate. These are Broadband over Ethernet adapters, which utilizes your existing power lines to carry 802.3 Ethernet (wired) signals. What you are thinking of is WiFi range extender, which looks very similar.
fasthandsmalone No no no 😂😂 I laughing so hard at people that don’t understand this. Here I will explain it better. Internet does NOT go though your power lines those power lines only supply power. There are other cables in your house that can have ethernet or some older homes have phone lines. If you have a house phone that’s usually what you plug that phone base into. There are other cables/wires that can carry internet. Those are called CAT cables (ex. CAT 5e, CAT5, CAT6, CAT7 and so on). The higher number you get at the end of the “CAT” means it has faster transfer speeds but that also means they are more expensive and bigger around because they put more wires in the cable. There are other units called “WiFi ranger extenders” or “WiFi extenders”. Those devices can be set to do many things. Option 1 is: To be a repeater this means that it will grab your poor WiFi connection wirelessly and give it a boost to what speed you would have as if you were standing right next to your WiFi router and modem. Option 2 is: Set it up to be what called an AP. This mode allows you to take your wired connection (say you have a CAT cable plugged into your router and it goes through the walls of your house or office and comes out of the wall that kind of looks like a wall plug but the holes look different than just plugging your computer or phone into the wall to charge. This allows you to take that internet connect from the wall and plug it into the device or WiFi extender and it will act a router too. You don’t want to do this if you already have a WiFi network. Go back to option 1 if you just want to boost it. Option 3 is: Router mode this is kind of like the AP mode but it is a little bit different. If you do not already have a router that came with your internet provider you can use this to connect to the WAN. The WAN is what brings the internet from the big cable out by the street into your house and then the cable comes out of the wall. Plug this cable into the “WAN” spot on the WiFi extender or device. Then the WiFi extender will be turned into a modified router but will still work just like a router. The other port by the WAN port should be called “LAN”. This port allows you to plug in your computer or NAS hard drive to the WiFi extender or router. Take one end of the ethernet cable and plug it into the WiFi extender and then take the other end and plug it into your computers ethernet port. Your computer should automatically see that the ethernet cable is plugged in. If not you should be able to find a RUclips video that explains it or contact your manufacturer of the computer or NAS hard drive. If you do not have a ethernet port on your computer you will have to get a dongle. There are many thunderbolt or USB dongles that have the ability to let your computer have wired or ethernet internet access. Please leave any questions or comments down below and I will try to get to them as soon as I can. Have a great day and I hope this helped people understand more of what these devices do!
Thank you for sharing gonna try it out let you know
Thanks so much General. Just wooooow. It's magnificent device 👍
Forget repeaters they are crappy.. I use this TP-link system and it's amazing 41mbs in living room... And 41mbs in my bedroom... Amazing so easy to set up BOOM... Done...
I just ordered it based solely off your video and used your link to Amazon so you should be getting a nice fat check from them. Thanks for the video.
***** Fat check ? I'm also an affiliate with amazon, he we'll make $3 maximum per referral.
mohammed gh I figured you could detect the sarcasm but ya didn't.
***** Whether a You Tube uploader gets a referral fee from a commercial O.E.M. (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or any reseller, to me is not the big deal. However I think there should be some proactive forthrightness to the public, respecting their right to know the underlying interests, and to what type and degree. The Candour and forthrightness at that level are really more important.
nice help, thanks.

Isn't that what powerline tech is? data through power lines?
Yes, but it is very slow compared to ethernet cables. It is not the ideal situation but if you have it I guess it will work. I would wire my house if I had this problem.
man i hope i have the time and the fast that you have to write all these
its probably quicker to just plug these things in and let the data transfer through the power cables, rather than read all that.
thank you man someone that dose a tutorial and explain it good
Thank you. Worked great!
sitting here with 4mbps like fuck
I know the feeling D:
+Kryo Sheep lmao I pay for 30 down 5 up and I get 37 down and 7 up but currently I am using my neighbors internet so there for my connection is shit relatively everywhere in my house but not in my neighbors so I really need to do this lmao

I purchased this and the wifi is not working...I have it connected properly with a splitter that came from the kit. After hooking it up, my devices now see two new networks called Home 2.4 and Home 5 that i cannot log into. The original wifi signal is still not seen
first 5 comments i read are lowkey roasting you but I love this video man ty sm for this
You got me soo excited!!
hey dude, just wondering does your extender still work as good as day one, ive been reading alot of infomation and i found out it only lasts a few months until getting problems?
can you give us a heads up on how it is now, you have had it for 2 years, any problems???
"SOLD!"
Thank you so much I need this I will be purchasing this thank you so much
THANX man. Just bought one through your link.
Does this work with a cable modem combo?
Yes, but you need a multi port hub, because most cable modems have only one port, that is used by your wireless router. If your cable modem has a built in wireless lan, it should have a free cat5 port for a connection.
It’s putting into my power line??? I’m sure it don’t work like that 😂😂😂😂
How does it work then?
the best working video ever thanks man
Great video...thank you. Just found this and see it's 2014 was wondering if you're still using it or found something even better.
