Last Chance ~ Brass Plate Fretless Banjo (for Kevin)

- My latest build for Kevin Hewes (greenbrooms on BHO). This banjo started out as a '20s-'30s banjo. The neck had a thin brass plate, but had an extremely thin nut width for a banjo (1-1/8"), so Kevin sent it me to make a new neck for it, still incorporating a brass plate but completely fretless, and of course a wider nut (1-3/8"). The pot is about 11" with a 1/4" steel tone ring. New calfskin head and Nylguts, plus a brass No-Knot. The Dobson-style neck is two piece walnut, along with the ears and dowel. The fingerboard also appears to be walnut, but was said to be mahogany when I got it. And last, but not least, a gold MoP star to finish it off.
25 1/2" scale.
Tuned fDFCD for the video

Great!
Noah Cline can even make a toilet pot sounding well ... 😂
Probably 🤪
Why hell yea.
I can't stand not having a banjo... just can't afford one rn. Played clawhammer with a heavy galax wv influence on my playing since 14 yrs old now 31. I just had to sell my only banjobadter munson was born for cash but I know I'll get another one and. Unfortunately Bill's will always come first.... I love #36
You should build one. Salvage a neck off a busted instrument if you can't build one from scratch, and fasten it to a gourd! If I'm not mistaken, Noah even has videos about making gourd banjos
If I could make a request, could you do the song "Going Across the Mountain" by Pete Seeger?
How can I purchase your banjos?
What is the cost on something like this? Been looking into brass fingerboard overlays..
This was a custom replacement neck made for a customer’s old banjo. I’ve only done open back banjos for instances like this or if I come across a vintage pot and make a new neck for it. I charge $15 for brass fingerboard plates, regardless the banjo type.
You sell it on EBay
Sorry, this was a commission for a customer.
Butter me up and call me a biscuit. These banjers are just as nice as the playing. Swell job sir
