    I've got a Rock Creek and she's been a blast. She tears through snow, sand, and mud. The tires can use an upgrade, and maybe installing a bigger lift and underbody protection, but otherwise she's great. She wasn't meant for rock crawling, she was meant for light to moderate offroading. They did well with this one imo.

    Most of us old people like SUV’s because they’re easier to get in and out of than a sedan. Plus I get to see over the guardrail rather than at it.
    Your clothing choice this week is spot on Tom: hiking/work boots and Carhart jacket. Maybe next time you could pull a trailer of freshly cut wood.
    And what’s this? The wife is shopping for a new car! You must keep us informed on her decision.

    Ive taken my 1.5 year old RC on the beach in St. Augustine, and near Fort Pickens. On the more rugged trails in Yellowstone and Badlands. Heading up to Cape Cod this summer for some more beach driving.
    We like the more basic features (previous honda pilot had all sorts of electrical issues...traded it in and vowed to keep it basic).
    The 2nd row capt chairs are great for our kids. Our 8 year old is autistic and gives him his defined space.
    Roof rack was tricky cause of the cross bars design. Used shims to raise it off the cross bars a lil more and got longer bolts to mount it.
    Cameras are good for crawling along around obstacles (especially into the garage as old deaf cat is doing her thing).
    We're based in tenn and she's taken us to yellowstone, tetons, badlands, glacier, both carolinas, florida, Roosevelt NP. Probably over our weight limit on all the trips.
    There's a few nags i have with her, but she's been good overall.

    Nissan has been making huge strides in improving their product line and this is no exception. All people typically want is AWD for their main car, plastic body-cladding just gives the impression that you're over-prepared to deal with the challenge of your local CostCo parking in the rain. I bought an 2017 Golf Alltrack which has the phony body-cladding, but I would have easily have passed up on that option just to get AWD. It just gives me that much more confidence driving in bad weather and jotting about Tahoe when they haven't plowed the secondary streets. Works like a charm. If I lived there, a Jeep or Subaru is a must-have, trust me. Great review Tom!

    I have a 2018 pathfinder sv 4x4 yes the dreaded CVT. I put on a set of nitto nomad grapplers and that is what has made all the difference in the world. The CVT has never given me any issues going over Sierra nevada fire roads in rain/mud/snow or sandy paths out in the Tumey Hills. I'm thinking of "upgrading" to the rock creek but I've yet to feel like i need to. Maybe when the CVT finally fails if it ever does.

It's a real bummer they got rid of the 12v port in the hatch that would of been very handy on camping trips. Lastly this vehicle comes with the Hitch and 7pin connector already installed. Also, why do all of the manufacturers seem to limit a second row bench seat to the lowest trim lines? I can’t imagine my dog would be happy in a captain’s chair for our 20 hour annual drive to Florida.

    I purchased a 2024 Rock Creek and had one major problem. That is that the passenger seat height is not adjustable at all. My wife is the primary driver, and she is 5 and 3, and even the driver's seat has to be set the highest, with extra cushioning. When she sits in the passenger seat she looks like a grade schooler. If the airbag inflated against a short passenger in this condition, will her face be safe?
    Could Nissan provide taller seat rails?

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      I doubt Nissan has an aftermarket rail. As a passenger she should be fine with the airbags (airbags are designed for people to fall into them after they've deployed. My wife is even more petite and we bought our first Volvo because it was one of the only vehicles with a telescoping wheel back in the day. She really needed to back that airbag off a bit since she sits so close to the wheel.

    Nissan could simply enclose the back of the Frontier and make a new Xterra which would be awesome, but for whatever reason, they won't.😕 As for the equipment on this; I personally do not want a glass roof (hail), sun roof (leaks), don't care about premium sound, and don't want a power tailgate (one more thing to break), I don't want to control everthing through a touch screen, I prefer cloth seats to leather, I hate auto start/stop so I am glad there is a button to disable it. So I like this, I just wonder if the Rock Creek trim is even worth it.

    • @JimYeats
      @JimYeats 10 месяцев назад

      I don’t disagree with you, the Xterra was awesome. But sales are sales, and it doesn’t sell well. It isn’t popular enough to really make a huge dent in the 4runner crowd, and it’s too rough for the soccer mom crowd being a body on frame design with rear solid axle.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 2 месяца назад

      @@JimYeats ...the Xterra needs to be priced better (i.e. lower) than the 4Runner to be competitive. Nissan also needs to give the Xterra real off road chops and support it for the overland enthusiast (turn the Xterra into a lifestyle vehicle). Make it dead nuts reliable and support it to the N-th degree. The Xterra can't be a rental car special like some of their other offerings....

    👍80. Thanks Tom. Wow, no AA/ACP on the Rock Creek. Those two items should be as standard as a steering wheel at this stage in the game. If the lowly Kicks can get AA/ACP, and the Rock Creek doesn't/can't; huge F.A.I.L. on Nissan. Still on the fence btwn the aging CX-9 and the new PF to replace our CX-5. It will be a town/mall racer, so I'm not looking for Wrangler abilities. We loved our '04 R50 PF, so the new PF has our eye. But w/equipment omissions forcing one to go to the highest trim, that could be a no-go. This Rock Creek is a tough sale at the lofty $45k mark w/omitted stuffs.

    Who cares about driving it on dry rocks. If driven the correct way an SUV with front-wheel-drive could do that just as well. What I wanna know is how well does it do in deep snow during blizzard conditions. I've seen Jeeps and other off-road type SUVs do just fine climbing rocks, but they do horrible in winter weather even with the right tires.

    • @DrivenCarReviews

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport Год назад +1

      ...the black interior is fine. It's how Nissan accented it that is the problem. I prefer black interiors to light grays, beiges, and especially white interiors. Some more contrasting natural colors like a brown, blue, or maroon, thrown in as an accent on the seats/dash would have been nice (they already use an orange stitching, so why no more orange perhaps). They could also do some (brushed) aluminum or stainless steel trim to break up the black.

      @@K03sport I think they went cheap.
      Yes. Chrome or brushed aluminum would have helped.
      Why not have a beige or lighter grey option?
      There really are at least two camps of thought on this. I recall test driving a GM suv once like the Traverse and it had a black interior that swallowed up all the light and was miserable. On a nice bright day you get in and you could not even see your own legs or feet. It was truly miserable.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport Год назад +1

      @@guidedmeditation2396... Our 04 PF SE had a dark gray cloth interior and it did a good job of hiding dirt. For a vehicle like this, maybe Nissan should have put in the fixed glass center piece like they did on Maximas at one time. No sliding, no venting, just a 10"-12" wide piece of tinted glass from the front seats all the way to the third row; or split it into 2 segments to allow a reinforcement beam through the center of the roof to add/allow light into the cabin. Auto designing is tough and is a constant uphill battle against the accountants.
