god the mermaid’s transformation is horrific, the way it’s completely out of nowhere as the man she wants to marry looks at her in horror and disgust as she reaches out with nothing to grab onto gives me chills! She’s disfigured into a seemingly sentient fish without being able to express her emotions with those dead fish eyes. This one is actually more straightforward than the others on this channel imo...little mermaid befriends the witch who develops one sided love for her. When little mermaid goes to get married to the prince, witch takes it as betrayal and turns the mermaid into a fish like monstrosity and drags her down so she can love the mermaid forever.

I love how it takes me a few watches to understand Vivinos' videos. Here's my theory- The octopus lady seems to be in an empty surrounding, meaning she's probably been alone all her life. The mermaid finds her and wants to be her friend (the finger touch probably symbolizes the connection). The mermaid doesn't have any romantic feelings for the octopus lady, but octopus lady has never been shown an ounce of kindness or human connection all her life, so she falls in love with the mermaid. This one-sided love blooms into an unhealthy obsession. After this, it's the same plot as The Little Mermaid, the mermaid saves a prince from drowning, she falls in love with him, she asks octopus lady for legs, and the octopus lady would literally do anything for her, so she gives her legs. But this time, the octopus lady is so blinded by her obsession that she thinks the mermaid will come back after meeting him, because she thinks the mermaid loves her back. She watches over the mermaid through her crystal ball, but then she sees that the mermaid and the prince are getting married. She ends up cursing the wedding ring, but she was so blinded by rage that she made the curse stronger than she intended. I think she wanted to turn the mermaid back into, well, a mermaid, but her rage made the curse stronger and turned her fully into a fish. We see the princes' scared face, but i don't think he had disgust or malice on his face. I don't think he forced her back into the water, (contrary to the other theories I read) but I also don't think that the mermaid was ashamed of her appearance and wanted to hide in the ocean. I think that since they got married on the dock, the mermaid's fish-like body caused her to flop into the water (see the angle at 1:16, she looks like she fell). Before she could swim back up to the surface, the octopus lady seized her and dragged her back down to where they first met. Still filled with rage, the octopus lady's tentacles squeezed the mermaid tightly, and the scene at 1:48 shows that she was digging her nails into that mermaid, scared to let her go, but as a result, she made the mermaid bleed out. The octopus lady would rather have killed the mermaid and held onto her rotting body than let her live a happy life with the prince. This not love.
It doesn’t seem like the mermaid betrayed the witch it’s more like she just saw her as a friend and nothing more and was really kind to everyone she met. Unfortunately she showed kindness to the wrong person. The witch has a selfish desire in that she doesn’t ever to be alone again. Judging by the empty space surrounded by the witch it’s evident that she’s been alone her entire life. And it’s clear the only life under the surface that showed her just a tiny touch of kindness was the mermaid. This move the witch to obsession. This is certainly not true love. If she loved the mermaid she’d let her be free and happy, but she doesn’t see the mermaid as her own person, but as a prized possession to keep forever. In the end only the witch is happy. The once beautiful mermaid has no way to escape and will never see the light again forever binded by selfishness. Deformed, yearning for freedom, in pain, and trapped forever. Although the witch isn’t alone anymore, the mermaid will be until she finally dies. (The sad case, this twisted fairy tale happens in reality, and mostly women fall victim to stalkers who eventually end up being killed by their stalker once it’s found out that the woman has found happiness.)

Currently mentally preparing myself for the sad and the gay Edit: for those who want an explanation/theory or have no idea what's happening, this is what I got! As Retz in the replies said, the video seems to be based/inspired from The Little Mermaid. Blondie probably represents Ursula, Blue Haired would be Ariel and the man would be the Prince. As we can see in the beginning of the video, Blondie and Blue Haired must have been close as they touched fingers, symbolising a connection. Then, a shipwreck scene happens and the Prince is seen drowning, and just like The Little Mermaid, Blue Haired saved him. Blue Haired becomes human, they fall in love, etc, etc. Blondie sees this happen through a magic ball and gets jealous. We see some ink effects on the screen which maybe symbolises magic happening, Blondie's doing (most likely a curse because of some deal/contract that they did, though I'm not sure what kind of deal it could be.) Afterwards, when Blue Haired puts the ring on, her skin is covered with scales as she turns into a strange fish creature which is what the magic was for. At the end, we see both Blue Haired (as the fish creature) with Blondie, hands intertwined. In the end, Blondie's jealousy cursed Blue Haired so they could be together forever. Of course, this is just what I got out of it so there's probably aspects I missed ^^"

Sooo here’s what I can tell: 1.Mermaid and octo witch become pals. Witch begins to fall in love with the mermaid as she is always alone on the ocean floor. 2. Mermaid saves a man from drowning. Mermaid wants to see him again. Witch gives her legs to do so. 3. Witch probably expected mermaid to come back to her, but she never did. Witch watches mermaid and man fall in love and she becomes jealous and low key insane without her. The witch is once again alone. 4. Wedding day comes. Witch decides that she will keep the mermaid for herself and curse her by not just removing the mermaids legs but turning her into a full fledge fish. 5. The mermaid swims back to the witch frightened and confused. (Or witch hunts the mermaid down) 6. The witch traps her on the ocean floor holding her so tight that her nails dig into the mermaids hands causing bleeding. And all the mermaid can do is reach up towards the surface hoping her husband will come for her. (He won’t) 7. The witch isn’t alone anymore. Happy ending!

Always thought Ariel just became a statue at the end because she wasn't moving. Also I don't really blame Eric for covering his mouth and nose. Fishes quite literally stink.
I think that Ariel died in the struggle to reach up to the surface and back to the prince. The same way that exerting a lot of physical energy right before you die will make your body stiffen up faster when rigour mortis kicks in, Ariel was struggling so violently and so tirelessly that her body still held the last pose she was in when she died. I think the sea witch is holding onto Ariel’s rotting corpse that is still reaching up to the surface.
The Little Mermaid was the fiancee of the Sea Witch. But when she broke her promise and got engaged to the prince again, the Sea Witch forced to take her back. Beautiful and sad as always.
Where did you get the fiancee part for the sea witch and the little mermaid? I didn't get the impression that they were a couple at all. It seemed more like, based on what little we saw, that the blonde haired girl had an unrequited love for the little mermaid and was upset that it was reciprocated, hence probably why the little mermaid was seen falling in love and moving on to someone else. Then She curses her in "If i cant have you no one can" fashion.

The fact that there's a moral to this whole thing just makes it even more sad and realistic. The moral is to be careful of who you show kindness to, because the wrong person can take it the wrong way and twist it into something else entirely. This is especially true in the case of stalkers and their victims, since most stalkers received some form of kind gesture or common courtesy and in their warped minds, believe it to be love or something along those lines. Stay safe out there and PLEASE contact the proper authorities or trusted friend(s) and/or family if you or someone you know is a victim of stalking.
I think it also shows which kind of love is real. When people say that obsession isn’t a form of real love and it is really just hate and love mixed together, it’s true. Her hatred of being alone and her love of the mermaid probably stirred up in her brain, making it into an obsession of keeping the mermaid with her *no matter the cost*.

yeah the mermaid is with the witch who kills her, doesn`t accept her decisions and curse her, not something that is really nice or happy... the witch is more obsessed than in love and the mermaid is now dead and if you notice she tried to escape her when the witch try to kill her.

something i haven't seen pointed out is that the witch's selfish love contradicts the little mermaid's genuine love she has for the prince. in the original tale, the mermaid refuses to kill the prince's wife to save herself because "his happiness is my happiness" and ultimately ends up sacrificing herself for him. here, however, the witch's love is selfish, she believes that if she can't have the mermaid then no one can. so she curses her to be a lifeless puppet that she can project her love onto, stripping her of the life she once had, making her forever unresponsive and uncaring

It’s interesting how a lot of VIVINOS’ work involves tragic and horrifying lesbian romances. Like, a common theme is a girl liking another girl, but with some horrible twist that prevents them from ever being truly happy together. The only short film I can think of that doesn’t involve much romance is Magical Girl RuRu. I think VIVINOS’ films, especially this one, serves as a pretty spot-on approach to feelings of inadequacy and weirdness that come with being non-straight; how you might feel like you’ll never meet someone and have your happy ending, and, occasionally, you even feel like an out-of-place monster. Ironically, the original author of the Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen, was a bisexual man and many people theorized that the story was symbolic of how he felt he could never be with the man he loved.
I knew there might be an explanation why almost all the stories contain lesbians and not like a straight couple or whatever. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

Something I noticed right at the end is that the witch has also been transformed into some kind of sea creature. The blue haired mermaid is now a warped fish monster, and the white haired mermaid is an octopus monster (instead of a defined arm, her tentacle ends in a human hand). Maybe the curse involved both parties being affected? Awesome video as always :D!
This is definitely about a toxic relationship, then her falling in love with someone and the other one cursing her to be together forever, even if she’s not herself anymore, even if the blue haired girl is drowning under this ocean, without any willpower. I feel bad for the mermaid, she must've thought the sea witch was a good friend for giving her legs (assuming the sea witch was the one who did so in the first place) The mermaid clearly didn't know that the sea witch had feelings for her (or didn't know she was very, very lonely). The mermaid literally had NO FEELINGS for her other than she must've seen her more as a friend. But sea witch would rather force the mermaid to be with her instead. This is horrifying. Being forced into a relationship that you never wanted is the worst.

bro the premiere chat for this was so cute, everyone was so nice to each other and the topic just kept jumping to random things edit: ok so just finished watching the premiere and to my conclusion: The mermaid and the octopus girl had a relationship, and they both made a promise to each other since they both poked their fingers to one another that they would be there for each other. possibly the octopus thought that the mermaid and her were in a *romantic* relationship so she loved her, but after the mermaid saved the man with a kiss to keep him from drowning, they both got married. octopus girl thought she betrayed her for another man when in truth the mermaid only saw her as a friend so she cursed the girl to turn into scales (literally predicted in the premiere chat "what if the mermaid turns into a literal fish") and to be a scale statue. octopus brought her down to the ocean to cling onto her for eternity rather than letting her live her human life for the rest of her life with the man she saved from the ship. Somewhat like the little mermaid but with a darker twist
God this is so morbidly beautiful. The transitions are so well done, and the art in this is terrifying. The moment where her pupil enlarges as she becomes her fish form is so twisted. Amazing job as always.
Theory: A sea witch develops unrequited feelings for a mermaid. The mermaid goes on land to get married to the man she saved from drowning. This angers the witch and she curses the ring he puts on the mermaids finger. She turned her into a fish monster so nobody else would want her.
This animation sort of reminds me of my abusive relationship where I had a partner who abused me and constantly accused me of cheating, even though I never did. When I left him and tried to move on, he continuously tried to ruin my reputation and to get me back, he was extremely jealous when I moved on months later. He stalked my friends and I and harassed me. The mermaid becoming a hideous sea creature reminded me of me, since he bruised and scarred me and tried to make me look like an ugly person by publicly slandering me to many people. But luckily, this is real life, and he is undergoing the repercussions, and everyone supports me. I am much more stable and happy now, but this video sorta felt like a way to cope when it first came out.

This one is actually more straightforward than the others on this channel imo...little mermaid befriends the witch who develops one sided love for her. When little mermaid goes to get married to the prince, witch takes it as betrayal and turns the mermaid into a fish like monstrosity and drags her down so she can love the mermaid forever.
Kinda wish it was complex as the others tbh

I love how it takes me a few watches to understand Vivinos' videos. Here's my theory-
The octopus lady seems to be in an empty surrounding, meaning she's probably been alone all her life. The mermaid finds her and wants to be her friend (the finger touch probably symbolizes the connection). The mermaid doesn't have any romantic feelings for the octopus lady, but octopus lady has never been shown an ounce of kindness or human connection all her life, so she falls in love with the mermaid. This one-sided love blooms into an unhealthy obsession. After this, it's the same plot as The Little Mermaid, the mermaid saves a prince from drowning, she falls in love with him, she asks octopus lady for legs, and the octopus lady would literally do anything for her, so she gives her legs. But this time, the octopus lady is so blinded by her obsession that she thinks the mermaid will come back after meeting him, because she thinks the mermaid loves her back. She watches over the mermaid through her crystal ball, but then she sees that the mermaid and the prince are getting married. She ends up cursing the wedding ring, but she was so blinded by rage that she made the curse stronger than she intended. I think she wanted to turn the mermaid back into, well, a mermaid, but her rage made the curse stronger and turned her fully into a fish. We see the princes' scared face, but i don't think he had disgust or malice on his face. I don't think he forced her back into the water, (contrary to the other theories I read) but I also don't think that the mermaid was ashamed of her appearance and wanted to hide in the ocean. I think that since they got married on the dock, the mermaid's fish-like body caused her to flop into the water (see the angle at 1:16, she looks like she fell). Before she could swim back up to the surface, the octopus lady seized her and dragged her back down to where they first met. Still filled with rage, the octopus lady's tentacles squeezed the mermaid tightly, and the scene at 1:48 shows that she was digging her nails into that mermaid, scared to let her go, but as a result, she made the mermaid bleed out. The octopus lady would rather have killed the mermaid and held onto her rotting body than let her live a happy life with the prince. This not love.

It doesn’t seem like the mermaid betrayed the witch it’s more like she just saw her as a friend and nothing more and was really kind to everyone she met. Unfortunately she showed kindness to the wrong person.
The witch has a selfish desire in that she doesn’t ever to be alone again. Judging by the empty space surrounded by the witch it’s evident that she’s been alone her entire life. And it’s clear the only life under the surface that showed her just a tiny touch of kindness was the mermaid. This move the witch to obsession.
This is certainly not true love. If she loved the mermaid she’d let her be free and happy, but she doesn’t see the mermaid as her own person, but as a prized possession to keep forever. In the end only the witch is happy. The once beautiful mermaid has no way to escape and will never see the light again forever binded by selfishness. Deformed, yearning for freedom, in pain, and trapped forever. Although the witch isn’t alone anymore, the mermaid will be until she finally dies.
(The sad case, this twisted fairy tale happens in reality, and mostly women fall victim to stalkers who eventually end up being killed by their stalker once it’s found out that the woman has found happiness.)

Edit: for those who want an explanation/theory or have no idea what's happening, this is what I got!
As Retz in the replies said, the video seems to be based/inspired from The Little Mermaid. Blondie probably represents Ursula, Blue Haired would be Ariel and the man would be the Prince.
As we can see in the beginning of the video, Blondie and Blue Haired must have been close as they touched fingers, symbolising a connection.
Then, a shipwreck scene happens and the Prince is seen drowning, and just like The Little Mermaid, Blue Haired saved him. Blue Haired becomes human, they fall in love, etc, etc. Blondie sees this happen through a magic ball and gets jealous.
We see some ink effects on the screen which maybe symbolises magic happening, Blondie's doing (most likely a curse because of some deal/contract that they did, though I'm not sure what kind of deal it could be.) Afterwards, when Blue Haired puts the ring on, her skin is covered with scales as she turns into a strange fish creature which is what the magic was for.
At the end, we see both Blue Haired (as the fish creature) with Blondie, hands intertwined. In the end, Blondie's jealousy cursed Blue Haired so they could be together forever.
Of course, this is just what I got out of it so there's probably aspects I missed ^^"

마녀는 인어공주를 사랑했지만 인어는 자신의 마법을 이용해 왕자와 결혼해버렸고 그에 화가 난 마녀는 인어를 저주해 흉측하게 만들어버리고 다시 자기 곁으로 데려온... 동화를 암울하게 비튼 이야기네요...좋아하는 사람이 자신의 도움을 가져가 딴사람과 이루어지면 슬프기야 하겠지만...
약혼자인 인어의 부탁으로 뭍에 올라갈수있게 자신이 도와줬지만 결국 자신을 배신하고(사랑에 배신당한 인어공주는 물거품이 되는것처럼 중간에 녹아내려 일그러진 문어 얼굴이 나오는데 아마 문어는 배신당하면 녹아내리는 예전과 같은 모습으로 살 수 없었나봐요) 문어는 마지막 순간 왕자와 결혼식을 올린 인어에게 물에서만 숨을쉴수있게 아가미를 달고 다시는 한눈 팔수없도록 저주를 내려 눈을 앗아갔네요... 심해 물고기처럼 아주 깊은 바다에서 자신과 둘이 영원히 살수있게.. 약혼자가 문어와 인어라니 그건 생각 못했어요 덕분에 생각하면서 소름이 돋네요... 이번편이 잔잔하면서 곱씹을수록 잔인한 에피소드 같아요.
무엇보다 인어와 문어가 처음 만나 사랑을할땐 손 끝만 닿았어도 서로에 확신을 가졌지만 마지막에 문어가 살아있는지도 모르는 인어의 육신이었던걸 꼭 쥐고 감고있는게 참 의도하신거 같아 더 소름 돋아요 스무번보고 알아챘네요

Sooo here’s what I can tell:
1.Mermaid and octo witch become pals. Witch begins to fall in love with the mermaid as she is always alone on the ocean floor.
2. Mermaid saves a man from drowning. Mermaid wants to see him again. Witch gives her legs to do so.
3. Witch probably expected mermaid to come back to her, but she never did. Witch watches mermaid and man fall in love and she becomes jealous and low key insane without her. The witch is once again alone.
4. Wedding day comes. Witch decides that she will keep the mermaid for herself and curse her by not just removing the mermaids legs but turning her into a full fledge fish.
5. The mermaid swims back to the witch frightened and confused. (Or witch hunts the mermaid down)
6. The witch traps her on the ocean floor holding her so tight that her nails dig into the mermaids hands causing bleeding. And all the mermaid can do is reach up towards the surface hoping her husband will come for her. (He won’t)
7. The witch isn’t alone anymore. Happy ending!

I think that Ariel died in the struggle to reach up to the surface and back to the prince. The same way that exerting a lot of physical energy right before you die will make your body stiffen up faster when rigour mortis kicks in, Ariel was struggling so violently and so tirelessly that her body still held the last pose she was in when she died. I think the sea witch is holding onto Ariel’s rotting corpse that is still reaching up to the surface.

I think it also shows which kind of love is real. When people say that obsession isn’t a form of real love and it is really just hate and love mixed together, it’s true. 이번건 진짜 역대급이네요. 잔잔하고 갑툭튀도 없지만 진짜 절망감과 슬픔이 확 느껴지고요... 잔잔하고 고요한 브금인지라 바다란 느낌을 더 잘 받았고 몰입도 진짜 잘되요. 0:23 높은음이 들어가 인어과 바다의 아름다움이 0:44 거친소리가 들어가면서 그라데이션 분노.. 1:10 피아노소리가 진짜 소름 와우 1:26 점점 음이 늘어나고 낮아지면서 진짜 바다에 삼켜지는 기분이 듭니다..진짜 배경음악이랑 분위기가 너무 잘 매칭되서 띵작이 나와부렸네요 ㅎㄷㄷ 그리고 0:31 여기보면 마녀 손톱이 있고 0:54 여기도 보면 손톱이 아직있음 1:48 저주의 대가로 손톱을 바친건 맞는거 같아요.

something i haven't seen pointed out is that the witch's selfish love contradicts the little mermaid's genuine love she has for the prince. in the original tale, the mermaid refuses to kill the prince's wife to save herself because "his happiness is my happiness" and ultimately ends up sacrificing herself for him. here, however, the witch's love is selfish, she believes that if she can't have the mermaid then no one can. so she curses her to be a lifeless puppet that she can project her love onto, stripping her of the life she once had, making her forever unresponsive and uncaring
Honestly it’s very sad how she just turns into a fish and the witch is just holding on to her tightly probably indicating she died from the right grasp

It’s interesting how a lot of VIVINOS’ work involves tragic and horrifying lesbian romances.
Like, a common theme is a girl liking another girl, but with some horrible twist that prevents them from ever being truly happy together. The only short film I can think of that doesn’t involve much romance is Magical Girl RuRu.
I think VIVINOS’ films, especially this one, serves as a pretty spot-on approach to feelings of inadequacy and weirdness that come with being non-straight; how you might feel like you’ll never meet someone and have your happy ending, and, occasionally, you even feel like an out-of-place monster.
Ironically, the original author of the Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen, was a bisexual man and many people theorized that the story was symbolic of how he felt he could never be with the man he loved.

Something I noticed right at the end is that the witch has also been transformed into some kind of sea creature. The blue haired mermaid is now a warped fish monster, and the white haired mermaid is an octopus monster (instead of a defined arm, her tentacle ends in a human hand). Maybe the curse involved both parties being affected?

This is definitely about a toxic relationship, then her falling in love with someone and the other one cursing her to be together forever, even if she’s not herself anymore, even if the blue haired girl is drowning under this ocean, without any willpower. edit: ok so just finished watching the premiere and to my conclusion:
The mermaid and the octopus girl had a relationship, and they both made a promise to each other since they both poked their fingers to one another that they would be there for each other. possibly the octopus thought that the mermaid and her were in a *romantic* relationship so she loved her, but after the mermaid saved the man with a kiss to keep him from drowning, they both got married. octopus girl thought she betrayed her for another man when in truth the mermaid only saw her as a friend so she cursed the girl to turn into scales (literally predicted in the premiere chat "what if the mermaid turns into a literal fish") and to be a scale statue. octopus brought her down to the ocean to cling onto her for eternity rather than letting her live her human life for the rest of her life with the man she saved from the ship. Somewhat like the little mermaid but with a darker twist

God this is so morbidly beautiful. The transitions are so well done, and the art in this is terrifying. The moment where her pupil enlarges as she becomes her fish form is so twisted. Amazing job as always.

Theory: A sea witch develops unrequited feelings for a mermaid. The mermaid goes on land to get married to the man she saved from drowning. This angers the witch and she curses the ring he puts on the mermaids finger. She turned her into a fish monster so nobody else would want her.

This animation sort of reminds me of my abusive relationship where I had a partner who abused me and constantly accused me of cheating, even though I never did. When I left him and tried to move on, he continuously tried to ruin my reputation and to get me back, he was extremely jealous when I moved on months later. He stalked my friends and I and harassed me. The mermaid becoming a hideous sea creature reminded me of me, since he bruised and scarred me and tried to make me look like an ugly person by publicly slandering me to many people. But luckily, this is real life, and he is undergoing the repercussions, and everyone supports me. I am much more stable and happy now, but this video sorta felt like a way to cope when it first came out.
