- This. Is. AMAZEBALLS. Yes it took Way too many hours due to my mistakes and bugs, but I'm glad I stepped through it all, to learn a lot and show you guys some things to expect too. Bottom line, this is simply a phenomenal game changer to the way everything in your collection sounds. It's as big a change as going from entry level big box store speakers to 5 figure monsters, no joke. Things are now obviously present in both movies and music that simply were not able to be experienced before, even with a top of the line receiver. More coming!

I’m glad you found a solution. Thanks for all the trouble. Should I get transducers down the line, I actually know what to do thanks to you!
Go for it!
Got mine recently, just did the latest DSP update and am currently running Dirac.
Hi! Did SDP-55 setup for customer and in my opinion, it is great in sound but bugy in control and calibration via web UI. Hope next SW updates will fix this. It is open and clear for sound (in my case with Rotel PA + B&W 804 D4) but need moooore time to setup than you may expect.
Yep the webui has quirks that’s for sure. I wouldn’t expect more updates, it’s been over a year on the current one. Luckily once you get it setup right you never need to change things.
@@COGuyStuff will see. One thing that I 100% know, that we will do another calibration session after system burn-in. =)
If you use this for Dante, consider returning it and using something else: There are horrible snaps and pops, some of them at speaker and ear damaging levels if you use it with and Apple TV, Shield, and Switch, with the Switch being the worst. Happens to Amphenol and Avio adaptors, and I've used a different switch too. Analog connections don't have this issue, but arguably there's less reason to get this if you're just going analog.
Great video I feel your pain being an arcam owner. Tip for you when using dirac changing the crossover, use the Snapshot on the bottom middle of screen and you can see the last adjusted crossover response 👍
That’s only predicted. You don’t know, without testing with rew.
Can you do a tutorial on how to best tweak settings, especially bass, after all the measurements are imported? If you can I’d really appreciate it
Great info video…I’m sure it drove your patients. Seems to be for people who are patient and willing to run all the trouble shoots.
That’s for sure lol But it is WELL WORTH IT no joke!
@@COGuyStuff I just finished watching you recent vid. I can’t wait to hear more about it.
@@COGuyStuff are you getting any noise or distortion from your speakers? When you switch to an unused input do get any noise? I’ve been hearing that this is an issue. I would like to know your experience
@@dadevastator24_77 I do mate, XLR output... Even with connected device off. (If JBL is off, no noise, so shouldn't be from amps)
I just got this processor and am basically using the same speakers. 707’s 706C, OWM5’s, 703’s. After running Dirac it made everything sound super muddy. It sounded so much better out of box. Idk if I’m doing something wrong. Using a XPA-7 to power everything
Definitely something off. Make sure you check things with rew
Im pretty much convinced if I go with JBL I go with an installer.Bugs seem to be everywhere on more advanced audio products. Anthem was on my radar for months but forums are just lit up with Anthem receiver, processor bugs. The loud fan that ruins watching content and can't be defeated in many units killed it for me.I know my limitations and wish I had your patience and knowledge.Best thing about this is how close YPAO was in its calibration. Wonder if you are going to miss the Yamaha AI ?
The Yamaha AI is REALLY good. But, aside from curiosity I never used it. It shines when playing old non-immersive stuff, and I just don't watch old DVDs or regular blurays anymore. 99% of my viewing for years has been UHD with atmos or DTSX and I always play that native. And I never, EVER play music outside of regular stereo.
The JBL Logic16 is supposed to bebetter than Yamaha AI whenever they finish it anyway, if people need that sort of thing.
Yeah I had to wait months and months to get new firmware for my anthem str pre amp. It flat out wouldn’t measure. Very frustrating that these manufacturers gotta be first with the latest and greatest and sell you somethin that doesn’t work out if the box with a promise they are working on it? 😡
Totally agree. Having grown up pre-internet, it's very frustrating that things shifted from 'just works' to - 'release what you have and fix it later'.
All these bugs might be an argument to stick with Denon/Marantz, Yamaha, Pioneer AVR and Processors because they have these setup processes down pat. Very few bugs comparitively speaking. But then you give up that higher level of performance.
For us enthusiasts we can work through it but regular consumers are gonna get really frustrated with them.
Most likely it’s your JBL which basically is an Arcam product from Harman that is buggy. They release unfinished products so it seems. Dirac is a bit buggy as well but I don’t have half you issues with Dirac and my NAD processor. Continue with your videos, love watching your long videos and you explaining everything you do and why. It’s entertaining :)
The bugs are confirmed Dirac, it's nothing new. The SDP-55 isn't perfect but none of this is the unit, it's all before it even gets there. AVS has running lists of most bugs.
@@COGuyStuff I find it interesting since it sounds like the issues is with JBL and Dirac. The only issue I’ve had with Dirac is that once or twice I had to restart site since it could find my pre/ pro but nothing else. I hope they work out all the bugs for you!
I don’t use Bass control though, maybe that’s were the issues are.
Join the avs forum. Dirac responds there and talks about bugs.
@@COGuyStuff Yes I’m on the forum :)
Hola amigo podrias ayudarme con dirac live? Tengo un arcam avr30 con dlbc y no consigo obtener esa respuesta tan buena que usted tiene.
Necesito ayuda😖😖
Looks like you forgot to include your dealer contact information, would you mind sharing?
It looks like he owns a Dirac Bass Control license... I think that he could use the Multisub version instead of the miniDSP and connect his two subs to channels 15/16
Don't assume. Yes the JBL comes with the full license. Yes they are independently connected and controlled. The MiniDSP is only there for the Transducer delay, it's not doing any processing to the subs.
Dang that setup process sounds so frustrating! Wonder what the chances are of them actually fixing the bugs.
I think pretty good, just a matter of when. I have been looking at all the options in this mid-range for a while and believe me - a year ago things were WAY worse.
@@COGuyStuff have they made any firmware updates since you made this first?
Great video, thanks for doing the hard work. Quick question, is minidsp being used in between JBL and the subs.
Also does jbl include multi bass Dirac, or has to be purchased separately.
Yes it's included. The MiniDSP is because I run transducers and need to split the signal with a dealy. It's not processing the subs.
can we set front height and rear height also the Voice Of God channel ?? if so how ? I want to install front height and rear height and one top speaker as VOG. please reply. what is inside that 13&14 and 15&16 speakers input in the web control ?
There is no vog channel. Page 32 of your manual shows all the configs. 13-16 are for subs
@@COGuyStuff thanks for the reply. sad to hear that though. I wanted to have VOG in my setup and so looking for right avr/prepro. (also 7 bed leayer channels are must)
How has the performance and reliability been one year later? Has the firmware improved where all of these issues are resolved?
The issues are/were mostly the dirac software. Yes it's improved - still not perfect but it's still a must-buy unit for sure
@@COGuyStuff have you heard the anthem avm70 or avm90 ? If you did how does it compare for movies and music? I have the avm70 but am thinking about upgrading to the
avm90 or this jbl do you have any issues with the bass being held back in heavy bass scenes or was that issue fixed ? Not sure if you had that problem but some reviews mentioned it
Hi, Can you pls give the details of the dealer?
How much to fly you out to Cleveland when I get mine?
LOL You can actually contact AZ Tuning, they help out via a remote computer session with you for all kinds of work like that. facebook.com/groups/aztuning/ zach.faley@gmail.com
Boo 😒 I was getting mentally prepared for that 10 hour road trip. What did you get for that 3 channel monolith? What should I expect to pay for a pre owned?
I asked and got 1000.
@@COGuyStuff wow 😲 almost full price. Good for you. 👍 I’m finally back together. Damn that back panel was a bit of a pain, it don’t slide into nothing 🥴 I only did the one upgrade beside the new rack. I changed out my 504c for a 3rd rp8000f. I can definetly use a 3 channel amp. I guess I’ll upgrade next year after they get the bugs worked out of that JBL and we don’t enter a depression .
$350 off. They are high demand and the guy already knew I keep my stuff in perfect condition.
I found an easy way for the back panel is to lift it with your foot and drive the top center in to hang it. Rest is easy
Hey your speaker distances are off. Each Millisecond is 1 feet. Your distances shouldn’t show more than 10 Ms given how close you sit to your speakers
Uh, no. The amps in the subs add delay and so does the wireless to the transducer amp. It’s not all about distance.
Go to the engineering tab on the web interface to adjust from the low power to where the processor maintains a network connection and boots up faster. Or you can hold down the menu button for 5 seconds and use the Display on the unit. There you can also adjust the power on volume and aspect ratio for those with a scope screen for the on screen display.
I love that you are documenting your journey with this and surprised you already sold the 3 channel amp and ready to sell the Yamaha even when you are not completely calibrated and up and running.
Yep I already found that - I had set that way earlier but it didn't take. I didn't think to look back after finding the bugs lol
And it's in HDMI Settings not engineering, for anyone else looking
I think u should hire a professional calibrator… so at the same time he can walk u through the process
LOL I know exactly how to calibrate. This is just a new interface to learn. I've set people up for years using REW.
@@COGuyStuff oh ok lol… well anyway ur videos roc…. Let’s gooooooo JBL
The bugs on this software is unacceptable. It's like an open beta, it's so bad.
