If the hypothetical situation were to exist where the space agencies had a choice of either a) creating the conditions to colonise a planet or b) leading an expedition to recover a quantity of a material that could permanently solve humanities need for advanced catalytic converters to counteract emissions. As far as launch sites, Kenya has one of, if not the most ideal locations on the globe. Being on the equator & facing east means we need less energy getting into orbit, using the earth’s rotation for momentum allows for less expensive rockets and the ability to carry heavier payloads 🛰️ Having the vast Indian Ocean to dump the first or second stage rockets makes Kenya the perfect location to launch our own satellites.

Africa has a long way to go, but im optimistic that Africa will play a big role in space exploration in the far future given its population boom. Kenya had a space port called the luigi broglio space center spaceport which was operated by Italy between 1967 and 1988. It's currently inactive, but the kenyan government or a private investor can arrange a deal with italy to buy the spaceport. Kenya is one of the countries in the world that is situated along the equator. Rockets launched from the equator will take advantage of the earth's orbital speed and use less fuel to get to orbit compared to rockets launched from different points on earth. As a GenZ African, i feel fortunate with the knowledge of space and it's great to hear other africans share the dreams of space exploration. The first space power in Africa will definitely come from Kenya.
This is very inspiring to aerospace enthusiasts in Africa and the idea of believing in one’s dreams. However, I’d just like to fact check a statement on sea dive atmospheric pressure being similar to space like conditions which is practically ‘vacuum like’. As one goes higher in the earth’s atmosphere, the density reduces and hence pressure till a certain point where it is almost negligible. For sea diving, the atmospheric pressure is very high attributed to the weight of water above it. Medically, even for flying, it is not recommended to do deep sea diving and go flying till about 24 hrs have elapsed due to the pressure differences in these conditions. Furthermore, Mars’s atmosphere is thinner than earth’s, presenting even lower conditions.
