so... u live in kansas. nice neighbour hood. i stalked you from vancouver. well. i saw what a nice hood you have. and i googled it. didnt expect to find kansas lol. im from vancouver bc canada, much different city.
Sound good!~ Did you delete only muffler? or resonator also? I also have this 550i, but stock exhaust sounds too weak to hear. how about drone in this setup
Sorry I noted in one of my other videos the car also has AR catless downpipes. If you're keeping the stock downpipes the car should be a bit more tolerable as well. Either way plan on exhaust drone and waking your neighbors. I'll post up the M5 mufflers that are installed now and highly recommend going that route.
+Crhis Yearton, because of all these vids people have done I have deleted my Exhaust. Well first cut it and left it. Afterfire was great at low rpm but high nothing so I removed the mufflers completely to see. The sound outside the car revving is absolutely mental. Inside the car it sounds a bit dirty and not refined but outside it's very refined and great like a real BMW. I thin it sounds better than the M. '13 750xi I think it came w/ a tune, bought used. The sports display goes beyond 480 / 480 when the car is 445. Plus removing the muffler restriction made the car expiate easier. Acceleration on 2nd gear feels like 1st and ultra high rpm, instead of bogging and seeming slow it goes quick then next year like it's on a perfect DCT because the shift is like instant. I mean, the response time call from clicking is pretty slow but the shift time from gear to gear is mad fast. I ordered a Y pipe for my quad 760Li tips and a mandrel 3" 2x for each side. I need the exhaust smoke to come out the back instead of just anywhere. I left the center muffler and resonators. It really sounds like M if not better. We have turbos on ours so having restrictions is a bad thing. BMW just has it that way so it can be quiet and business people can buy. The idea is to remove all restriction but at the cost of noise. It feels like I had a tune or something and the car being how it is, a lot of people don't know what it is so it makes it even better.
If the mufflers removed meet your sound preference that's good, but don't get too hung up or worried about loss power due to restriction and turbos. Your biggest restriction is the OEM cats in the downpipes. Since the M5 muffler and others are straight through it's really negligible at these power levels you'll see a huge gain with a muffler delete. I'd be shocked if my car which was Stage 2 w/Alpina turbos made 10 more horsepower removing the mufflers. Though I don't have proof on this car I can confirm this on a couple older cars I owned (I like more quiet sleeper-ish sound). My Subaru made 440whp with a stock muffler... removing it made a 7 whp difference.
+Crhis Yearton, You would think so but I think due to the weight of the 750xi vs the 550i I think the restriction removal made a huge difference. I think it's the torque that gets increased especially at higher RPM. They said 6500RPM is max but if I let it go all the way to 6.5k instead of 6k with stock mufflers it's slower than shifting at 6k. Now it can go all the way to 7k and there is power.
Curious to know what the car sounds like cruising at 2400-2800 RPM from the interior? Is it noticeable? I imagine its near quiet under 2k, but highway is what I'm concerned with.
very noticeable the video tones it down a lot.... and wide open throttle didn't sound great as heard in the video. Again this was for fun before the m5 mufflers arrived. Save up and buy exhaust... it will sound 1000x better.
+Matt Z Hopefully will have my gopro back in a week or so (used at our wedding by the video guy with my new 3 axis gimbal). As soon as I get it back I'll post up!
Sounds like a snake in ur car. Getting my AA Catless Downpipes put on my 550 next couple days, with my RPI mufflers and resonator deleted. Can't wait to see how it sounds. Your exhaust pop more on upshifts/downshifts ?
I have a straight pipe'd CLS550, so I love the sound this engine makes, im torn between the 550i or waiting a bit for the 650i. But anyways....do you always get the questions on why your car sounds like that?...from non-car people?
+Too Shmart It definitely turns some heads especially after the catless downpipes. The turbos spool even at low RPM's and sounds incredibly evil. I'm sure your car sounds about the same!
***** Yeah mines sounds like a 67 GTO lol, I left the 4 cats in and straight piped everything else, and I love it and I finally got that clap clap burble kinda close to the c63 and a bunch of thumbs up from car guys. I had it for 4 years and Im definitely looking at something with the BMW N63 motor in it. With just a simple tune and intake you will be making M5 numbers. Cant wait and thanks for the reply.
Sorry I never made a video with them installed. They sounded amazing, no rasp, and you could make them factory quiet by closing their secondary valves.
Chris awesome! Thanks! I'm thinking of just doing the muffler delete on mine but am a bit afraid of droning and it being excessively loud. What do you think?
It's too loud, this was just for fun before my M5 mufflers arrived. Wide open throttle and shifting the car sounded terrible. Get the M5 mufflers and open up the secondary valves and it will sound perfect.
Its hard to say, the cats should help a bit but my experience with other BMW muffler deletes its still very loud and lots of drone. The M5 mufflers are really the way to go.
Love it at 2:46 when he opens up, you can hear the whistle from the turbos and the growling of the v8 to the end of the exhaust tips, just epic!
Thanks! All the turbo noises are contributed by the catless downpipes, it will sound like that regardless of mufflers!

Repping the OP i see?? Car sounds great. I wanna hear the m5 mufflers

maybe the idea is to keep the resonators to prevent lots of droning?
Resonators were intact... save your pennies and at least get M5 mufflers

Sounds sweet. Can you always hear the turbos like that or is that from something you did to it? What year?
Sorry I failed to mention there's catless AR design downpipes installed and that's why you can hear the turbos.
@@DasGutWaffles thanks
Very very nice! That's my next car 2016!
Is it completely cat less?!
Yes
That sounds great sub-4k or so. After that it gets a little farty from the video audio. In person it mightve sounded good there too

Sounds like a Trackhawk when it shifts
dct farts are the best on the f90 trackhawk only has like 1 loud 1 and thats it
Will you be posting a video with the M5 mufflers??

Only on cold start!

so this was with the Microphone inside and cracked Windows?
Correct
Do you or did you have a tune on this car
Yes. JB4
Any update on the M5 mufflers??
Sorry I never made a video with them installed. They sounded amazing, no rasp, and you could make them factory quiet by closing their secondary valves.
1LbHotDog thanks for the reply!
Is this just the muffler delete or do you have any sort of Downpipe?
Catless downpipes as well.
Chris but do you think it'll be too loud with the cats on? Cus I don't plan on taking them off, I plan on keeping it stock.
Its hard to say, the cats should help a bit but my experience with other BMW muffler deletes its still very loud and lots of drone. The M5 mufflers are really the way to go.
