Steve Lawson's Final Sermon In Its Entirety 09/15/24

- Steve Lawson's final sermon, "Defining True Greatness," in its entirety. Preached on 09/15/24 at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas. It has since been removed from their website. For context, his comments about not judging a person based on "one weak moment" can be found at the 16:50 mark.
On 09/19/24, just four days after delivering this sermon, the church elders announced that Steve Lawson had been removed from all ministry activities at Trinity Bible Church. They made this significant decision after Lawson himself disclosed information about an inappropriate relationship with a woman.
As a woman who married a popular peacher only to be shockingly betrayed with traumatizing abuse, and then abandoned with four small children, my heart goes immediately to the person no-one seems to be interested in talking about! Steve Lawson's wife! While she may come to find a special, tender, comforting and sustaining refuge in Christ (as did I) she will never recover from this betrayal.
@@elizkendal
So, who's the popular Preacher you married?
She can recover from this betrayal. I recovered after finding out about infidelity that had been going on for YEARS! When I found out, he accused me and he did horrific things to me and our three small children. But God delivered us, and I am happy to report that I have never been healthier, happier or more whole than I am right now! The LORD removed him from my life and I have not looked back!
It’s devastating my sister! I completely agree with you…his wife Anne seems almost forgotten. 💔
@@elizkendal So who's the popular Preacher you married, so we know you're not a liar, a witch, a Christian hater, or something. Thanks.
Me compareço dela, talvez mais do que com Larson.
Adultery is more than a moment. It can be days, weeks, months, or years of sin. Prayers for Lawson, his wife, and their family. God is good and forgives us for our faults, praise God! May God use this for His glory. The fact the church did not hide it and removed him shows to Christians and the outside world that Christians do take the sin of adultery very seriously. Sets a much needed example. Prayers for Lawson and his family during this hard time.
Yeah. Unfortunately all they do is think about the fallen man and how great he is. I haven’t seen one comment about his wife. Sad. She was just as important seeing she could have tanked his ministry as well.
Sad he let it go.
You're right that something like this does not happen overnight. But also I think its important to emphasize, having just ONE moment of weakness and adultery, you are just as condemned as having 5 years of it.
Even the Lord said to even think about it is the same as doing it @@Palendrome

Thank you Aaron fot uploadong this video. Im so very heartbroken over this. I love Steve Lawson and that wont change. To strip all his sermons is craxy. God forgives! I pray for Steve's full repentence and restoratiion, for comfort and healing for all his family.
It is crazy. I want to listen to all of his sermons. Regardless of what has happened Steve Lawson is one of the best preachers of our time. He is faithful to the Word. How many preachers today can come even close to him? It's a sad day when someone's life works can be wiped out because he sins. We all sin. No one is exempt. Show some grace to everybody involved.
@@janegranger6821 The difference is that Steve is disqualified from pastoral ministry based on 1 Timothy 3. He must be blameless, meaning that no one can make an accusation against him that could be proven. Steve knew that what he did was wrong and could be proven, so he was no longer considered a blameless man. He also committed a sin against his own body, which is adultery (Proverbs 6:32, 1 Corinthians 6:18). We don't know exactly what happened, but whatever it was violated scripture. He cannot be restored to pulpit ministry. He can and should be restored to fellowship because he needs men to come alongside him and hold him accountable.
I agree! i dont agree to what they are doing.. ERASING him.. might as well have killed him and like oh he died.. i have Lawson's books and will never throw them.. every good work that God did Through Lawson over the years cannot be refuted.. so yea.. KEEP HIS BOOKS AND SERMONS...
God forgives. Consequences still follow. No forgiveness removes consequences
Please never delete this sermon 💛💔 this was my favorite pastor 🙏 Lord have mercy on him, and heal him and his family, especially his wife Ann. 💛🙏 In Jesus Name.
Same pls post it every where I am a abandoning legonier for removing him. As well as master seminary removing support.
As much as we love Steve he cannot preach according to 1 Timothy which spells out the qualities of a pastor/elder. Maybe after his restoration he can come back to another church. Trinity Bible Church and Master's Seminary was obligated to take him down for now. Steve was preaching this last sermon knowing he's in sin. Not a good thing.
@@Sherlock245 I love Dr. Lawson as much as the next person but what else was Ligonier and Masters Seminary supposed to do?
Do we believe in Church Discipline or not? Or are we just revealing our partiality for those we prefer over others that we do not care for and so they are easily discarded.
Shame on us if we do not apply the Word and Church Discipline equally. God is not partial at all.
I pray for Dr. Lawson and his family. However, the Bible is the Bible and Church Discipline is Church Discipline regardless of who it is and should be applied to.
@eastcoastmz there's no way back.
Father in heaven I’ll pray for brother Steve Lawson guide him Lord in this difficult time Lord we are all weak and nothing in us we can boast about father comfort his family I’ll pray for restoration forgiveness peace and love coming for you Lord this all we pray in Jesus name
Seems like what he says around the 17:00 mark only makes sense if he’s alluding to himself. It doesn’t really apply right to John the Baptist who he was talking about in the text. I’m so sad that his ministry ended this way, probably the worst way to be remembered. Such a faithful teacher whenever he was in the pulpit. I pray he makes a statement once the dust settles
It makes sense that John's weak moment was doubting Jesus was the Messiah and asked Jesus if he is the one or if they should expect another. Steve's point is that Jesus affirms John's ministry despite is moment of doubting or his "hiccup."
A true Christian's ministry never ends until God calls them home! For God never, removed David from being king!
In light of what happened…..seems like reading into the text a little
@@pjtibayanJesus affirmed his own ministry to John.
It's pretty dark when you realize what he is doing.
Thank you for uploading this sermon 💛
It’s not right to delete sermons of Steve Lawson. If it is right way to delete his sermons you need to delete david history. Samson history Solomon history from the Bible.
Not sure it's Biblical to take down all his sermons, articles, and presentations. The truth of them is not dependent on the person communicating them.
Amen 🙏
Agreed. People are so arrogant
They took down all my videos because I was quoting the KJV Bible too much.
They, our luciferin community guideline creators, said it was due to excessive Hate Speech. No Real Shocker!
True. Agree! The book of Psalms would be erased also. The church will survive because Christ is King.
Wait what happened with him?
Ah Steve I loved your preaching! Especially your hard preaching! The enemy was watching your every step seeking to discredit the church! I pray my beloved brother that you overcome this tragedy in the way God will show you and that your relationship to Him will be even stronger than before. I pray for your wife and children that they forgive you! In Jesus' name I pray! Amen and Amen!!
@@voicecryinginthewilderness it is not a tragedy or an accident. It was a decision. We have to be cautious that we don’t fall over ourselves trying to restore this man if he is not engaged or desirous of being restored…….to Jesus.
@@BrideofChrist1026 I did not say I wanted to see him restored to pastoring. I prayed for his relationship with God and his family! It was a tragedy!! I guess you have never made a mistake or sinned! David committed adultry with Bathsheba then murdered her Husband Uriah to cover it up. Did God remove all his Psalms from the Bible? Did God then reneg on his promise to David that of his children there would always be a descendant to sit on the thrown of God's people?
@@voicecryinginthewilderness I just got through reading Amos 5:21-27 where God speaks through Amos about how He feels about the feast days, etc being kept with an unrepentant heart. Many of the leaders involved with Steve Lawson have stated that there needs to be repentance and we have not seen that until we actually see it. Personally, I would not be surprised if Steve Lawson decides to stay with the girlfriend. Hope he doesn’t but that is up to him.
Also noticed how he said, "in next week's sermon".....
“You should not judge a man by one weak moment, you need to look at the whole body of his work. You need to look at his whole message, his whole ministry, and don’t judge him on one hiccup that happens”
Note: right before this he even mentions John telling Herod, you should not have your brothers wife…Irony
Adultery is not a mistake, it’s not a hiccup, it’s a decision which requires some planning, preparation, lying and deceiving people. He knows the truth, he knows the Bible so he knew what he was doing. “ Your sin will find you out”.
I’m with all my heart praying for his wife and children as he not only betrayed the Lord but also his close family, those who he was supposed to protect.
@@urszulabr5086 Amen, I agree, so very sad. Obviously, Steve did not practice what he so sternly preached. Another one bites the dust. Obviously, he led a double life.
I don’t believe it was irony. I believe he was aware the bad news was coming out and was trying to soften the blow. Otherwise I have trouble fitting the comments about not judging a man by “one hiccup” into this passage.
It was the irony of ironies, huh?

You should listen to George Macdonald. Huge emphasis on the love of God bad obedience to Christ. I’ve never heard such glorious theology elsewhere so expresses besides in holy scripture.
I keep seeing so many people voicing their displeasure of his teaching being scrubbed from websites. I think the idea of them taking his teachings away is because to still make them available would be an endorsement, and they cannot and will not endorse him right now or even give the appearance. 5 years to be keeping hidden this type of sin is a pretty big deal (understatement alert). And the fact that he was made to bring the hidden sin to light is not a comforting thought. Yes, we all sin, but they may be torn as to what to do bc it really is like an endorsement to keep his material available for others to be taught by. And this is based off of what we all know... There is also the issue that they may know things that we dont know that further solidify the decision to take away his material from their sites. The hasty, unapproving judgment of their decision to take down his material is about on the same level as how harsh they're being accused of being about what Mr Steve did. Its not a bad thing that he is facing these consequences. He should. He was hiding this sin as a trusted sheperd for a pretty long time. And it must be kept in mind that there are details about it that we still do not know.
@DouglasNicolson I’m so sorry to hear about that. That must have been extraordinarily painful. I pray that God would sustain you with His love by His grace through His Word, and would provide friends and loved ones that would stand with you.
They shouldnt take everything down... The fact is ... Lawson preached the truth ... N he had a weak moment really ... But it doesn't mean hes a heretic
Did he have a weak moment?
Cut him a break. One man isn't tempted in the same way as another.
Do not take his sermons down. If you do you will be doing a great disservice to all who listen to him. Why punish those who still want to listen.
@@janegranger6821 Why?
For nafarious reasons, that's why.
Look up the definition of "nefarious"!
It's more than a weak moment.
"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren." James 1:14-16
"My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnatio." James 3:1
I cant imagine in what kind of shame he is right now to be known world wide as a preacher and as an adultrer must be a very shaming experience also the guilt!!! We should pray for poor steve
A lesson for us all that sin costs, up to everything we’ve worked for in this life.
The 23.00 mark is interesting. Also, 38.18 (about Jesus affirming John the Baptist’s ministry) and around 52.00 (about confessing sin), 56.20 (on repentance of sin). Prayer is needed for him and his wife, family, and all affected by this.
It’s interesting that Steve uses the exact same sermon topic of “John the Baptist vs Herod the tetrarch” when talking about Alistair Begg’s sin and his own sin. Steve paints Alistair Begg as Herod the tetrarch in the Alistair Begg sin sermon. However, Steve paints himself as John the Baptist in the Steve Lawson sin sermon.
Here are the relevant clips of the Alistair Begg sin sermon for reference: ruclips.net/video/ewoznLPHVS0/видео.htmlsi=8pUcecljpVL1AhW0
Pray for his repentance and restoration. By God's grace. He is a preaching giant, God has chosen to be. He is like Moses, Moses is not allowed to enter the promised land but Moses is still saved and chosen servant of God. Everyone is a sinner. Those that have no sin, may cast a stone. Peter denied Jesus three times, but God restored Peter and used Peter a great church leader. In Christ, there is forgiveness and restoration. King David sinned but God didn't remove the book of Psalm.
Has anyone not noticed his eyes? They're smaller than an exhausted Chinese man, and I say that with nothing of disparage.
But He is a person, he is bound to sin, he needs our prayers now than the crucifixion we are rendering this minister of God's word. GOD WILL RAISE HIM UP again, in power.
Jesus would say: what he said and preached do, but do not what he did. He was a deep Bible preacher. I cannot imagine that he is an unbeliever now. Yes. He is a fallen brother. I pray for restoration like Jesus restored Peter again.
We need to get the full story first, What is he guilty off, exactly. When did and how long in duration? Wait to see clearly. Try not to react to unclear official statements which has brought about its own problems.
Are you still uninformed about his 5 year adulterous affair with a woman not his wife who was in her 20s? What else do you need to know?
@@digitalwasabi2 Phil Johnson supposedly wrote telling of the 5 year relationship that Steve Lawson had with this woman. He also said that Steve denies, and his woman friend as well, say no actual, sin of adultly took place.
Phil Johnson took down his tweet and explained he should not have said what he said but should have waited for the Trinity Church elders to give what info they felt best.
The Elders on their first statement mentioned Steve Lawson had an inappropriate relationship with a woman. There wording, left with thinking he has not repented.
If Phil Johnson is right about what Steve and his lady friend said that there was no physical sexual sin involved.
Who is right? What was his inappropriate relationship?
If only at the start, things were presented clearly, we would have less channels speaking, assumptions, really, not based on the facts. People would not have ventured into sinning in there talking about Steven.
And that’s why I posted what I did.
Thank You!
So sad.
Please pray for his repentance.
Angels of light. 😢
I can’t even listen to the whole thing, because it sounds like damage control. I hope this isn’t a complete disregard for exegesis of Scripture. It sounds like he came to the Scriptures with a topic in mind and formed his speech around how can I minimize not treating my wife like Christ treats His church and call it a “hiccup”. I really hope he isn’t trying to minimize sin by comparing himself to John the Baptist. Because there is only one John the Baptist chosen by God for the task he served. Just like there’s only one King David chosen by God for that task, there’s only one Paul of Tarsus. I pray he truly repents. I pray for his wife to be comforted by our faithful Savior.

Curious why folks continue to reference OT great men of God in the context of modern day celebrity pastors especially when they fall? It's irresponsible and elevates the status of these men above all the ordinary folks in the church. Jesus is in the line of David, not of any modern day celebrity pastor.

16:50 is interesting in light of what happened. Was this one weak moment for Laweson or an affair that occurred over time.? We don't know the specifics of course. “I have been studying the Genesis series extensively from Trinity Bible, but many parts are missing because the church removed Steven Lawson’s sermons.
Does anyone know of other preachers who offer exegesis on Genesis similar to Steven Lawson?
Please inform me.
On hearing this sermon, it did strike me when he was talking about not judging a man for one error or hiccup but look at their entire life and it didnt fit with the text for me. Another thing that came over was Steven at times seemed aggressive and even angry as he preached. I suppose Steve didn't necessarily envisage his confession would merit disqualification but the elders wrapped everything up swiftly and completely. Possibly they wanted an excuse to drop him and this was it. We do not know any specific details and its quite likely his confession was of something comparatively minor in reality
I doubt this was a ploy to drop Lawson. Lawson himself came forward about the sin he committed.
23:50 Lawson really seems to identify with John the Baptist, as he applies this pasage to 'preachers'. So who does he identify as 'this fickle crowd'? He points at his own listeners.
The degree of arrogance and self centered attitude is sickening.
I was watching one of his vids at that church and I thought I saw something on his face when a woman walked onto the stage to sing, I thought that must be his wife, life is so weird
This is so sad… This ruined my weekend.
Steve Lawson knew exactly what he was doing preaching this sermon. I just can not define this other way than blasphemy. He used the pulpit, the word and the name of God to say one last thing on behalf of himself. May this serve as an example of what should never be done.
I wanted to scream “you are not John the Baptist!” while watching this. The man who stood to judge everyone else harshly seems to desire softie coddling for himself. Repulsive.
Did someone punch him in the nose? What's with the bandage?
God will interfere in the life of a true believer and keep them from committing adultery if they submit to his chastening. God only chastens his sons. It’s hard to accept that maybe Steve Lawson might only be a gifted preacher but not a true son. The path to eternal life really is narrow. Adulterers do not inherit eternal life. He knew better.
Look around at the godly men in your life, they’ve been tempted, but have they fallen?
John the Baptist was NOT a very humble guy, but he did not have sexual sin. In fact, many have stated that John the Baptist was wrong to have been so legalistic and judgmental of Herod. Herod was wrong to take Herodias as his wife, but he would not only incur the wrath of John the Baptist, but also the terrible consequences of being involved with a Jezebel…..how terrible to be the man whose lust caused John the Baptist to be beheaded. 🤮 John the Baptist did lose his life and all his ‘comforts’ but take note, it was not because of sexual sin.
If he admitted everything in humility. Let his story be an example for all of us to avoid. Just being real and honest would be so helpful. No one is perfect.
Just repent STEVE! I’m a rotten sinner and I repent in JESUS NAME and my name is Tom Clary! Why is Steve refusing to repent?
Do we know if at this stage he knew that it was all coming out or did all that happen after this sermon?
Are we all infallible? I haven't seen enough opposition to Steve Furtick's false gospel.
He's definitely talking about himself and what he knew people were going to soon learn about him at 16:50 . But adultery is not a "hiccup" and it's pretty audacious for an adulterous multimillionaire to compare himself to homeless itinerant John the Baptist who went to jail and ultimately was murdered for proclaiming Truth.
I loved Steve Lawson but everything you said and pointed out is 💯 percent right
It sounds like he knew this would be last sermon there!
Such a bed ending for Lawson I pray and hope that he repents. He was in a weak moment in his life let's not judge him. At the end of the day he's a man that fell into temptation
I agree. I also don’t believe that they should have ever made this a public issue. It should have stayed within the church. I understand that he was a public figure and that he held different positions. However, this should not have been plastered all over the internet.
@@spardue42 The church absolutely handled it the right way. He was a public figure as the lead pastor of that church which means he is held to a higher standard (James 3). They didn't cover up his sin the way Gateway church covered for Robert Morris, or the way Tony Evans' church covered for him, or the way TD Jakes' church continues to cover for him. They did what the Bible calls for them to do according to Ephesians 5:11.

yeah he use to be one of my favourite preacher -- i am disappointed in him -- he ran his race and faltered at the end --- now sadly that is what he will be known as. The fault lies with us all in raising these preachers up to a status high above their rank - they become idols to us --- but the Word of God should stand taller than they are -- we have allowed preachers to become our idols - and they have relished it -- made money from it -- sadly it is Christ's name being pulled through the mire as a watching world stands by and see's our folly. And please don't say he is like Peter or Paul or David ect ect -- Steve knew what he was doing - the consequences are that there is forgiveness in Christ but he will never obtain the position he once had - he ruined that himself - he will never preach again. The best thing for him now is too retire and seek forgiveness in God and in his wife whom I feel sorry for. To be 70 and 40 years of marriage and to find your husband has betrayed you for a younger model -- is devastating to any woman.

All men including you, me and Steve Lawson have committed adultery according to JAMES 2:10. What we see as Church is not the Church at all. None of the Pastors in it are Pastors. Jesus is the only Pastor Who qualifies to be a Pastor (shepherd) of the sheep of the invisible Church.
What a hypocrite.
yeah adultery is just a hiccup!
This is very Sad, but unfortunately it's the American Christian way. The challenge I Always have is Denying Myself & Taking Up My Cross, DAILY, & Following Jesus Every Single Minute of the Day! (Luke 9:23 Deuteronomy 6:4-9) If I was going to Fight Against Jon Jones or Mike Tyson in his prime, I would be Training Every Single Day, Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, & Spiritually! 🙏 Paul Tells Timothy to Train to be Godly, 1 Timothy 4:7-8, & in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Paul says, like an Athlete, he's Not just shadow boxing or playing around, he punishes his body, Treating it Roughly, Training it to do what it Should, NOT what it Wants to, otherwise he fears, that after enlisting others for the Race, he himself might be declared Unfit & Ordered to Stand Aside, TLB!
Satan is a Roaring Lion Looking for Someone to Devour, Peter says in 1 Peter 5:8, so Why doesn't Every Christian, especially a Christian Pastor stay HOT for God by Reading their Bibles & Praying Everyday, also Meditating on God's Word, & Hiding God's Word in their Hearts so they Will Never Fall to satans Temptation, & the Master Trainer, THE HOLY SPIRIT, can sharpen Their Sword of the Spirit Everyday, so they Can Cut satans lies & Temptations to Pieces! Ephesians 6:17
We Live in America, which means that it's Easier for a Camel to Enter the Eye of a Needle than for People that live in a Rich Nation to be Saved! Matthew 19:24. How Many people would get rid of their Cell Phones forever if Jesus told them too? Probably None! Now if you were Homeless & Poor, living on the streets, hungry & cold, & Jesus says to you, "Give up everything you have & come follow Me!" You Would Say, "No Problem," & you would push your shopping cart down the sidewalk & follow Jesus with All Your Heart! So because We are Rich in Comfort & Possessions, We Need to Make Sure Our Relationship with God is Healthy & Strong, through Forced Daily Bible Reading & Prayer, if Necessary, so We Love God Way More than We Love Anything, or Anyone, including Our Own Lives & Wills. Luke 14:26. That’s what Steve Lawson Failed to do! He Lost His First LOVE he once had for Jesus! Revelation 2:4
TRAIN TO BE GODLY WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT EVERDAY! 😇
