    If the One Church proponents want unity, all they have to do is say en masse "We confess that homosexuality is sinful and will lead to our damnation." If they committed themselves to overcoming sin, we wouldn't be in thiswar.

      @Isasiah Bradley Do you mean what good is the creature who hates what God designed?

    • @johnmoon3901
      @johnmoon3901 5 лет назад +4

      @Isasiah Bradley Jesus never said in any place in the bible . Embrace sin.If by exploration you mean to explore more sin and force others to accept( Any sin) Not just one. You are not acting in a Christian manner. No one is hated. That is a false premise.The Holy sprit and Scripture is love.However it is a simple truism that People engaged and practicing Sin( Any of them ) Unrepentant are not called to be ordained pastors.

    Methodism is in decline in attendance and baptisms in the U.S. The older hard right with a myopic view of scripture ( which does not fit the Methodist Quadra-lateral) will keep their churches but they will leave assets and a legacy to an increasingly smaller population of Methodists. Smaller but thriving congregations with part-time pastors are being combined into single congregations so full-time ‘elders’ can have full-time appointments. We are very good at the rhetoric of holiness which prompts people to stay (just like the song) ‘just a little bit longer’ . Leadership just kept kicking the can down the road. Sadly, there is no more road following GC 2019. So after a lifetime of serving in the Methodist church I along with many others are attending other churches or starting new ones. We have given away the opportunity for a dynamic vibrant Church that promised a more inclusive Christ driven faith. We have given way to a new Global African centered Methodist Church with a singular myopic view of the future. We that are leaving are grieving but God is with us.

      My brother in Christ, Just a short reply. As clergy who has faithfully served many churches i can say with confidence none have been radical leftists or have these churches been taken over by as you say, ‘radical leftists’. The last four welcomed all and 3 of the 4 saw explosive growth. We were moderate in our institutional views but passionate in living out Christ’s calling. I ‘will say’ that the churches where appointed practiced ‘radical hospitality’ hence our explosive growth. This said, I give God all the Glory for his daily presence in our growth.

      Absolutely, I can also identify their dedicated pastors. Most in our conference know them by their works and their growth.

    Conservative Methodists should become Biblical Christians.

    • @Vader-xl1bl
      @Vader-xl1bl 5 лет назад +8

      The plan is Biblical. Or, do you want people who openly live a sinful lifestyle to lead the Church? Your statement is not Biblical, or at the very least, is ignorant of what the Bible says. The Gospel transforms, resurrects, and frees people from their sin. I pray you discover that.

    Side A: Let's all come together in love...and agree that practicing homosexuality will lead to our loving God burning your soul.
    Side B: Let's all come together in love...unless you disagree with postmodern gender theory.
    In a church that does *not* indulge in Biblical literalism, how can there *not* be a rational middle ground between these two?

    I hear Methodists saying that they can't be part of a church that doesn't accept them. That saddens me because they don't get that they are accepted. These are leaders in the church. I just don't understand them. I just hope and pray that healing takes place where it is needed. Right is right and wrong is wrong. God has no grey area. We need to adhere to God's word.

      Everyone is already accepted. That sounds nice, except the UMC still has no cure for homosexuality except expulsion or death.

  • @DerilVStubenrod

    When I hear that someone thinks that the Church does not accept them, that to me is puzzling and saddening at the same time. We, as Christians have accepted Christ into our lives and as such, accept his word (the BIBLE) to guide our lives. As Christians, we have to accept what the Bible says as God's truth from the first page of Genesis to the last page in Revelation as the absolute Gods honest truth. Too many times I have seen people try to conform the Bible to fit what ever is going on in their lives rather than examining and making changes IN their lives based ON the perfect word of God. And if God says that something is wrong, even ONCE - then that something is wrong.

    Thank God for the traditional plan. It keeps the Church Scripturally sound.
    1 Timothy 1:5-11 English Standard Version (ESV)
    5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.
    8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers,[a] liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound[b] doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

    Congratulations to the United Methodist Church for being a faithful witness to God's holy word, the bible. Now please make sure you enforce the rules and disciplines that you believe and live by. Make sure there's a gracious exit for those brothers and sisters who disagree with God's Word.

    I am frustrated by all the "ban" talk. Every church agonized in prayer over this issue for the last 3 years. Churches that don't accept all sinners are doing church incorrectly which is sad. The only thing "banned" is the cultural definition of marriage. LEADERSHIP is expected to maintain celibacy in singleness and fidelity in marriage (Scripturally, 1 Man, 1 Woman). Those believing there is a call to pastoral ministry on their lives while actively engaged in a homosexual lifestyle DO have a decision to make but it is a choice not a "ban". One can keep 2 of 3 things: same gender sexual relations, call to pastoral ministry, & being a United Methodist.
    I pray that after 3 years of prayer, discussion, and conferencing we can move forward to make disciples of Jesus Christ. United Methodists have the advantage of including global Christians, making our circle wider than most other denominations. To act as if God has not spoken to us through the Holy Spirit from many cultures leaves a subtle message that people from conservative cultures (Africa, Korea, etc) somehow can not hear the Spirit as well as U.S. UMs. Have we ever really considered this is the best way forward in God's eyes as much as we may not like it? And maybe the Central Conferences have given a US church that thinks it is rich a wake up call that we might be wretched, pitiful, poor. and blind.

      No. No. No Anyone expecting their congregations to put up with and be polluted by unashamed gay sinners is doing grave evil. Someone fighting same-sex attracting can be UMC. Anyone who does not recognize homosexuality as sin needs to leave. This also holds for anyone who believes chastity doesn't matter "for them." We are all called to the same degree of holiness!
