    What is absent from media accounts is the fact that 60 delegates from Africa were unable to secure travel visas and were therefore not present at this General Conference. The margins would have been greater had they been in the plenary hall. But 2020 is just around the corner. There will be more delegates at the table from the global south. The traditional/conservative tide will continue.

    I am personally concerned for my UMC in Colorado. I thought that I had asked the right questions concerning the LGBQ issue. After the vote was tallied at the conference, the pastor of my church gave a heavy and saddened response to the outcome. This was not the response I was hoping to hear from him. Now I am concerned that the biblical teachings that are true to the Good Book, will be ignored, misconstrued, and misrepresented by Pastor Scott, in order to defend the defeated position of the LGBQ defeated agenda. I may be looking for a new church and if that happens, I probably won’t be looking at another Methodist church. Why this immoral issue had to get this far is so sad and so unnecessary.

      Shirley, we have left the UMC church that I mentioned and are now seeking a new church. I reached out to Pastor Renfroe through Messenger and he was helpful in giving me a name of someone in CO who might be able to help me. As I knew, CO is quite progressive and churches tend to be sympathetic to the gay agenda. I am thankful for those that took the time to email me and put me in touch with others. May God bless you in your journey as well.

      The fate of the UMC and the orthodox UMC churches in the American West may be different, especially if the current apostate "bishops" try to keep their pogrom going. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new denomination In the West, regardless of what happens elsewhere.

    To me the bottom line is not that they were trying to change the way the church had done things since 1972 but rather they were trying to oppose God and place themselves on the throne by opposing His word. He will not tolerate it.

    As I have considered each plan over the past week, I have determined the One Church plan would have caused deep division in every local congregation. Instead of the vote coming from the General Conference, each congregation would have had to discuss and vote on whether they would allow gay weddings in the church and each pastor would have to declare whether they would perform gay weddings or not. This consideration and potential vote would cause schism at the most basic level. I don’t think the bishops considered that reality. For a time, God has saved us from that situation.

    • @MrCLangfitt
      @MrCLangfitt 5 лет назад +2

      Excellent point. The change would have divided the church at the leadership level, possibly splitting the church. That same division would have occurred at the individual church level, created the same acrimony, and resulted in the splitting of individual churches. The UMC would be destroyed for all practical purposes.

    • @moobdluag1
      @moobdluag1 5 лет назад

      @@MrCLangfitt Most of the UMC are currently struggling to survive and if the fight shift down to the local churches level, these churches will probably close in two years.

    Brother, I was just stripped of every position in the church that I have. I have been lied about and had a pastor personally attacking me to the superintendent because I believe that Jesus saves. He died on the cross and wants a relationship with every person.
    ...I want you to know I feel strengthened knowing that I’m not alone in this battle for Christ’s word to be highest authority.
    Thank you for your stand.

    Rob, our history has demonstrated over and over again that God brings forth leaders for "such a time as these." In the late 1700's, Americans were blessed with tremendous leaders - Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Franklin, etc. - who helped create a new nation. In the 1860's, God raised up a Lincoln. There are many, many other examples. And I believe God has done it once again... with you. Your commitment, steadfastness, passion, humbleness, and spirit are exactly what we needed for a time like this. God bless you, strengthen you, and hold you. "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

    The vitriol and anger on the Left has reached new heights throughout our culture so it’s no surprise it showed up at conference as well. I thought everyone understood their last real chance to pass a progressive plan was four years ago. The conservative majority is only going to grow and it seems the progressives need to calm down and decide if they can behave as constructive members of a church they have a particular disagreement with. If not, why stay and just cause strife? So glad to know the UMC is remaining strong against the world’s influence.

    Thank you Traditional Team workers and leaders. I have been so disappointed to learn the true nature and beliefs of our UMC leadership (bishops and pastors). Shame on those bishops and pastors who have pretended to be supporters of our Book of Discipline and in a deceptive manner supported homosexual marriage and ordaining of gay ministers. Because of my lack of confidence in current leadership at all levels, I suggest that the new Book of Discipline be carefully scrutinized before publication. Again, thank you - To God be the Glory.

    It might help to stop identifying yourselves in terms that political parties use. You’re either believers or you’re not, you’re either followers of Christ or you’re not, and you either love one another the way he did or you don’t. And I’m not pointing fingers because I’m a believer and I’m in that same boat but the divisive language that politicians use does not represent Jesus Christ.

    How can God's Grace work in a person's life if there is no repentance for sin. Somehow the UMC would have to redefine at least same sex unions as not being sin. That is basically what the Lutherans did.

    • @whiteshoe47
      @whiteshoe47 5 лет назад

      It seems we are reading from a different version of the Bible …… permitting is essentially condoning.

    • @balantz
      @balantz 5 лет назад +1

      Deborah that is a broad categorization...the Lutherans did not redefine some same sex unions as not being sin in a broad way. That was the ELCA, one denomination that kept the name of Lutheran, even though they have a very liberal interpretation of scripture, that I'm pretty sure would be contrary to what Martin Luther believed. I will be interested to see if liberal Methodists will leave the UMC and start their own denomination that will still be known as "methodism". They'll just change the methods and still claim they are following in the way of John Wesley. Maybe that's one of the issues of trying to say they are entirely sanctified? I know that wrestling with the issue of entire sanctification is one of the doctrines that I left the Wesleyan Church about, because it becomes heavy on law.

    • @paulskinner4603
      @paulskinner4603 5 лет назад +2

      Brandon, I'm so sorry you had/have an understanding of sanctification that is centered on law. John Wesley taught it was centered on Grace. God's Grace that loves us. The difference between law and Grace is one of the hardest Christian teachings to understand. Law places all responsibility on us; Grace helps us understand that it's all on God and then our desire to love back, accept His Grace and our ensuing desire to become more Christ-like. We don't have to do this by ourselves; the Holy Spirit helps us. Bless you brother.

    • @balantz
      @balantz 5 лет назад +1

      @@paulskinner4603 I appreciate your words. While I don't think it is intentional, I think that anytime our sanctification becomes more of a focus than our justification, it can easily turn into the "how effectively am I living up to the law." I think God's law is a good thing, and I'm grateful that He gives us a desire to do His law. He writes it on our heart, and that does flow from grace. I understand that, but sometimes the Gospel can get lost in the sanctification piece of the methods (just my experience). I'm not a Methodist, but I honestly was shocked (in a great way) at the core convictions of the African brothers and sisters. I must admit that I see differently the view of women in leadership than the Methodists do. I hate to say it, but those who were proposing a very clear reading of scripture about being "real" Biblical, were on to something when they speak of adultery and who God has designed to be the teachers. I understand the argument, and I understand what the rationale for women in the pulpit is, but I believe that when something that God has explicitly said in clear readings is for men, those who allow otherwise are also going against what He said. And the main argument for that, I've read over and over again, particularly from the Wesleyan perspective, Galatians 3 is not a text speaking to who are the right teachers, but a text about salvation being for everyone. But, I also acknowledge this, no one denomination has everything right...so, while I have left the Wesleyan tradition, I am praying for you and hope that in the coming days and months, the UMC will be able to continue being a strong witness for Christ in the world, bring the Gospel to the nations, and help people understand the justification and sanctification that God brings to those He makes His children. Blessings to you all.

    So, your approach won. Then - as you have wanted to for about a decade- and you are leaving. That’s a weird signal. And it’s all about homosexuality. That’s fine. Just be honest about it. Stop adding false information like “We are the only ones who believe the Bible and Jesus, etc”. That’s just false. You have fears about homosexuality and the church. So you’re leaving. Ok. That’s it.
