My wife bought me a day walking with Ray Mears as a birthday present a good few years ago, the day was awesome, he made a whistle/flute at one of the stops whilst delivering a presentation, played it and then gave it to a young lad as we moved on to the next area. On arrival back at the car park I met up with my wife who was there to pick me up, the event was over and Ray was over to one side with his instructors making a brew. I had spoken about Les Hiddens (Bush Tucker Man) to Ray on the way round, Ray said they were friends and relayed a funny story, I had mentioned my wife was Australian, when she went over he was charming, talked about Australia for the next twenty minutes, even offered her a brew. Nice genuine guy 👍
That's such a great story and another testimony to his kind nature beyond the camera. I appreciate you sharing that & also for watching. Really glad this evoked such a lovely memory for you too!
this is a very wholesome video! this is why i like ray & co. because they show that bushcraft has a soul. it's not just skills and gear but passion, joy and connecting with nature and ancestors. i wish i could meet ray and my other idols.
Ray Mears is my favorite bush-crafters of all time. Over his life, he has studied all over the world with so many indigenous peoples to obtain first hand knowledge for what he has taught others for so many years as well. Plus, he is a no nonsense get to it kind of person without all the fluff you get with so many celebrities in the bush-craft community, but he still has that British sense of humor. Thanks for sharing your visit there with us all. Being an American, I am a bit disappointed more Americans interested in bush-craft don’t know much about Ray unlike Bear Grylls!😊
That was lovely Liam! Thank you for sharing that with us! Happy for you spending some time with big man Ray again! Great memories for you and Craig too!! 💚
Looked like a great weekend Liam. Very well filmed. I meet Ray after a talk in North Berwick and I do believe it was the first time I've been proper star struck. So much so I never got my photo with him 🥲
great vid again, interesting to see that ray covered different things for each group. Sounds like he just freestyles it. When you're swollen with that much knowledge it must be the way to keep it from getting too repetitive 😅
That looks great. I grew up watching Ray Mears' shows and always really enjoyed his presence, so it's good to know that he's a positive interaction off-camera too.
It was an epic weekend Liam, great to spend time with you and Craig and all of the other like-minded people and share stories, laughs and knowledge 🙏🏻🔥
I had a great weekend i can see myself in the back ground of your video making a spoon lol, i wish i could have stayed for the book signing but had to go home for a family emergency. Hopefully i can go again next year to complete the weekend!
I hope the spoon went well and also that the emergency wasnt too serious and was resolved! Thanks for watching, hopefully you also get to finish the weekend off next year like you said, the vip bushcraft show tickets have a similar experience with Ray I believe.
You have captured some great footage there Liam, It was a fabulous weekend, I am currently reading my signed book(My Outdoor Life), I almost don't want to finish, as I want Ray to keep some mystery when I see him again 😂😊 love your antler ring mate! It was a great idea to retain the texture on the top half.
Aup buddy ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT that really enjoyed it. Absolute salt of the earth the people in the bushcraft community i no i might sound like a big girl saying this but when you showed your photo album of you from a young age i got a bit emotional lol . Keep up the fantastic work take care buddy 👍
Thanks Darren, you're absolutely correct. Everyone I met was so lovely! I was very similar when he signed it, definitely brought back some great memories! Thanks for watching 🔥🙏🏻
Awesome Liam, lovely insight into your weekend and one that you could see you thoroughly enjoyed. Big happy birthday to Ellie 🌟🌟🌟 Fantastic as always to watch Cheers fella All the best Johnny 🤩👊🌟
Thanks so much! It was an incredible weekend and made so much better by the like minded company. Very much like the community camps we're blessed to share. Appreciate you mate
If you don't bleed learning bow drill, if you haven't fired a spindle across the room seventeen times , if you haven't questioned every piece of wood .. you have missed the greatest journey of them all . Thanks for the interesting film. Lovely visuals .
Awesome stuff! Loved watching ray mears as a kid, got me hooked on Bushcraft when i was in cubs/scouts. His books are 2nd to none can read them all day 👍
Big pat on the back for capturing this lovely event, Great to see the foundations being looked at. Sat here in the woods practicing hand drill and feather sticks now relaxing in my bivvy watching these before my beauty sleep see you soon dude!
A big thanks mate, it was a trip to go down on the memory book and some amazing reinforcement of skills by the man himself. Appreciate you watching & hope you had a lovely camp mate 🔥
Thanks for the mention Liam. Hope you enjoyed the beers. It was great to chat with you and Craig, especially as I’ve been following you both on socials for what feels like years. Very much looking forward to catching up again and maybe joining you on one of your community meets. Stay safe brother 🫡
That was really nice to watch and we particularly liked the pics at the end. We've been lucky to meet Ray a few times and although they say never meet your heroes, Ray's not like that, in really life he's just as humble as he is on tv. Dude I'm really sorry I've not given you a call, I've been working away most weeks recently, it's been days and also nights so I've been a bit crap with social stuff. Hope all's well with you both though?
Ray's as humble as it comes, especially kind with sharing his knowledge in depth. I hope you are well mate, don't stress about being busy! That's the best news. Stay safe mate & catch up soon. 🙏🏻
Ray is a very down to earth cordial mild mannered man with a likable personality, I met him and Rachel in the Ashdown forest back in 93, they were out walking there dog and I was sat by the river having a brew, they came over and we chatted for about 10-15 minutes.
He is but to me he's worth every penny & the price is a reflection of his ability to cover so much ground with ease. This event also gives you great quality for money as it's fully catered which is a bonus! Thanks for watching :)

If you had a list of 10 things that epitomize the few true pinnacles of British greatness, Ray Mears would be on that list.
