Fun (actually heartbreaking fact) Fact: Queen Katherine Howard, King Henry VIII's 5th wife, requested a block be brought to her cell so she could practice dying gracefully.
Everytime I hear that it makes me so sad, she didn’t deserve her fate.
That's not a fun fact. It's a heartbreaking fact. She was 19 years old.

@@clashoclan3371 They have learned a lot which gets them somewhere, unlike when in school all that knowledge leads you barely anywhere. A degree is just a piece of paper, there is nothing special about it. It may land you a job, but it is still limited

Mary Queen of Scots was actually imprisoned in Scotland for most of her time in prison. She was held (and escaped) in Loch Leven castle, near where I grew up, which ultimately led to her execution

It’s very common to struggle to find a vein, especially on medicated and IV drug users, lethal injection isn’t perfect.
The noises are so funny especially the scared and angry ones

Hanging was just seen as a more humane way to execute people(even though it's quite uncomfortable for the condemned).

Well, an article I read Wilkerson refused to be blindfolded or restrained, he said "You have my word...I'm willing to die like a man looking at my executers in the eye".

Yankee Jim is the one I know of through local lore being a native of San Diego. I thought it was interesting they had so many problems hanging him concerning his height, considering I stand at the very same height of 6 foot 4. I guess I would have also been considered exceptionally tall in those days. Jim was hung on the site that would later be where the Whaley House was built, which still has a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in the United States.

Decapitation is imo 1 of the most humane executions ever. If done right the condemned won't feel a thing and it's easy to clean up.

@@GyeongmiBaeb But very primitive, that’s why it’s crazy, and in some ways, very inefficient, which is why guns exist. One shot in the right place and you are instantly dead, no heavy feelings, just instant death
I remember when I was in highschool studying Australian history they told us about a convict transported here who was sentenced to be hanged, but each time they tried something went wrong. The trapdoor would stick, or the rope would break for no apparent reason. After the third time they decided that it must mean God wanted him to live, so they let him off the hook. I'm a little vague on the details, but I think he ultimately escaped and was never seen again.

If you’ve seen the movie The Green Mile (highly recommend btw) you already know the electric chair is definitely gonna be in this video. I don’t get how anyone could’ve ever thought that was humane at all.

I almost became his 3rd victim because I was drinking water and this made me laugh and I almost choked or drowned or something.
Anne Boleyn was executed by a french man that used a sword, which was quick and painless. The execution that went wrong was Thomas Cromwell’s which is the one you mistake with in this video.

Ketch did so bad at the executions that he had to do a 1500s version of a YT apology/defense video - publishing a pamphlet that no, he wasn’t drunk and the main problem was that the person being executed wouldn’t kneel in the best way.
In general it's considered merciful to sharpen the blade and strike off the head in one blow, if you wished to make them suffer you'd bring a dull blade and strike many times
That was pretty cool that the last guy survived hanging 3 times.
Moral of the story, don't commit crimes that warrant the death penalty

Mary Stuart Queen of Scots was actually in prison for 18 years, not 8 when she was executed.
A town in England had a version that predated the guillotine by a few hundred years, the Halifax gibbet if your interested
louis XVI was indeed guillotined but I heard that it was not a "clean" execution to raise the blade and chop again. Royalty had to be done clean so instead of lifting the blade they just pushed it through.
I only heard it and never looked into it.

As much as I love these vids and you've got a very radio friendly voice there's one thing that's bugging me, you're saying hung when you meant hanged, a person can't be hung (unless you're talking about something else)

Yes, everyone thinks that the most common method of execution in Europe was beheading. While it was sometimes used, you would be lucky if you get this punishment. Most of the times, people were way more inventive when it comes to executions. For example, în the Carpathian countryes, the weel was often used, while in modern day France or Germany, a simple hanging was their choise. In 13th, 14th, 15th,16th, and 17th century England, most people that were sentenced to death were hung, drawn and quartered. During the eighty years war, the spaniards oftenly drawned their dutch prisoniers.
Hanging, drawing and quartering was reserved for treason in England. Most people were executed by hanging, or other methods.
