Laughed when you said you gave up on the project for a while I'm in the middle of my first boat/restoration 16 ft 1985 side console Bonito bowrider not much info out there about this boat I stepped through the floor in my yard loading cooler on Fathers day 2020 about to go out with my little girl for a boat ride was going to be third time out in it when this happened guy sold it to me said it was well taking care of there was so much rot the stringers/transom had all turned to literal mud. The flotation foam was completely saturated with water. I have been putting every spare moment into the restoration of it because I want those water memories with my wife and kids. Not ashamed to say TODAY I was literally about to cry and give up on it but after watching this video of the end result I'm GOING OUTSIDE NOW to continue thanks for posting you helped out a dad who desperately needed it THANKS SO MUCH!
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. This provides me with much more confidence to tackle my own restoration on a small Fletcher Speedboat. As we say in Bonny Scotland, Right Up Your Kilt!
Excellent work Brook and Dennis! I did a similar restoration on my first bass boat, a "free" one about 25 years ago. My 3rd boat is a 22 sail boat that didn't need near as much work but I still get ribbed about spending too much time with my "32 year old mistress".
Thank a million for doing this restoration. I'm looking for a boat project. When I was a kid/teen my farther owned a small marina so I grew up with waterski type boats, so I know them well. Now that I am retired I want to a project like yours. You have inspired me. Larry Undlin, Federal Way, Wash.
I love the pace and the friendly informative voice behind. For self admitted amateurs you guys sure know your way around the marine store! Awesome restoration.
Y'all did a great job on that boat, it looks really really noice!!! I would've strongly recommended replacing and filling all voids below deck with the 2 part polyurethane foam for positive floatation. It would displace any water in those voids should the old hull crack and it strengthens the hull and deck.
Brooke and Dennis, that boat got a new lease on life thanks to you two. Well done! Too bad you're down under! It would make a fantastic salmon fishing boat here on the Great Lakes!! Nice open design for plenty of room to fish!! It is beautiful!! Again, well done!!
That boat looks showroom new! really love those older style boats. That one looks very much like my families boat we had for years- We owned a 69 crestliner buccaneer. same type of ribbed hull.
good lord you and your husband do amazing work! I've been wanting to get a project boat and give this kind of stuff a try. you guys are really inspiring!
Another one! Heck yeah. New to your channel and I just watched the series on your other boat y’all restored. Now I just found this one and had to watch! I love it! I just picked up a late 90s model Carolina Skiff with a 75hp Johnson for next to nothing. Fixing to take on the project and get her ready for the summer fishing season! It’s only been sitting for 4 years and ran and was in great shape when parked. So I shouldn’t have a lot to do. Most people love ATVs and Motorcycles for toys and hobbies. Mine is boats lol. From Jon boats to big fishing boats. I love them all! I have to many anyways lol I can’t fish them all! Anyways I subbed to the channel 👍🏻
Hi, I'm doing a 60s Pacemaker speed boat. Could you please go into detail on how you inspected the transom to see if it was rotten? Mine feels solid but I don't want to risk ruining it by tearing it apart for a looksee. Thank you.
My family has been in the boat business for decades including refurbs. Back in the day, every boat had wood transoms preferably Marine plywood. Now everything that I know of here in Texas has changed to Composites with little to no wood. Yes time consuming and expensive...the challenge is Real...way to stick to it and Nice job
awesome job especially on all the little metal fitment pieces and what looked like rod holders. did i see some roughed up nonslip texture paint on rear corners?
Wow nice work ! , I have a old 1978 Angler v bottom run about i would like to do a full re do on but just gotta find time and motivation, would be doing it all by myself unfortunately
Is the boat a cruise craft? And how long did the build take. I’ve just bought a very similar shaped cruise craft raider but a smaller 5m. Transom seems solid but floor is soft in middle so new floor, Hope it has fibreglass moulded stringers too!
Your work is fantastic! In the future try Coosa board on the floor instead of plywood! It’s 1/4 of the weight and just as strong!!!!! Saved on weight! Less gas!!! More speed!
the only thing I saw was you didn't leave a space for your bilge pump, since you have a very beautiful boat and it's so long to me it could have had more rod holders on the gunnals, other than that it turned out extremely nice, keep up the good work
I just bought a very similar hull but it's almost 20 feet long. It has an interesting bolt on cab roof arrangement which I have never seen before. I'm trying to decide wether I should keep the roof and enjoy the protection of the cabin, or get rid of it and convert it to a centre console. I live in Tasmania, so the weather protection would be good but man, it would make an awesome centre console. What are your thoughts?
What I learned in a boat project, they are made in a series of steps layered into the final finished boat. This is a crazy project. Its should be done in a building or industrial yard. Don't use a lot of hardner and it will set slowly. You mucked up I would of foamed the floor .Way to much work for the boat value. You did a great job now pick better boats to refurbish on the side for sale.
Did you guys spray the paint on or did you brush it on? I’m currently repainting a 24’ Boston Whaler outrage and need some help on how to apply it. Thanks!
Denis sprayed it on. It's a bit technical and depends what conditions you are spraying. Best to ask the shop where you are buying the paint from. 🙂 best of luck. She'll look amazing when you're done.
Could you provide some detail on the product you used for the final deck coating? I think you referred to it as "flow coat". I am refurbishing a 23 foot boat, and I need a treatment for the decking after it's fiberglassed. Seems like what you used would be perfect! Greg
Danger! Let me be clear. I am a 69 year old fiberglass fabricator, expert in all resins, epoxies and mouldings. I have done industrial repairs and boat repairs of all types! THIS IS NOT A SAFE WAY TO REGLASS A TRANSOM ON ANY BOAT...ESPECIALLY A TRANSOM THAT MUST TAKE THE WEIGHT, TWIST AND FORCE OF AN OUTBOARD ENGINE! This transom will crack and delaminate along the edges you see that frame the transom width and height! Especially along the boat bottom, 1 inch blunt edge. I have seen this EXACT type of repair on boats, where the engines ripped out completely and the outboard fell off, sinking the boat! There must be a reconstruction and overlap of all glass inside and outside the corners of this hull's rear, at least 3/8 inch thick on the outside and ...before...You place any plywood. Then bond both ply thicknesses with EPOXY RESIN. Then place the ply against the outside glass 3/8 layer. You want this plywood to bond to the glass...so quickly cover the plywood with one epoxy saturated layer of chopped strand matt that covers the full with and height of the Plywood. Press the plywood into place and clamp it tight to the outside glass. Squeezing out some of the epoxy, making sure your plywood is fully pressed flat across the entire transom. The plywood, even encapsulated in fiberglass, only adds stiffness to the span of the transom. The real strength is in your fiberglass layers!!You must put enough glass ..inside and outside to span the entire width and top of the transom, wrapping over and out to the outside glass for real strength. All glass inside and outside should wrap onto all sides and boat bottom existing fiberglass by at least 10 to 12 inches....3/8 inch outside, 3/8 inside. No Less....and more if it is a large offshore twin engine, wide beam boat. You take the time to tie all new glass to old glass by grinding back the old glass to a long taper. It is this taper, this long taper of 10 to 12 inches on a 18' to 20' boat that BONDS THE ENTIRE REPLACED TRANSOM TO THE BOAT HULL. Also...tying your Stringers into the Transom by glassing them in to the transom on the inside must be done for added bracing to STOP the push/pull flexing of the entire transom by the lever‐force of the upright outboard engine or engines! Take the time to study best practices of fiberglass "laminate lay‐ups" and alternating woven roven heavy glass matt with chopped strand matt in alternating layers to build out your 3/8 inch layers. Use a glass laminate type roller....get all the air bubbles out! Yes! You can do it yourself...but know how to reconstruct the STRENGTH you need!.

Great job guys. I’d love to hear a few minutes from time to time of live commentary. Thank you guys for being here.
I’m amazed at how you two make it look easy too do, so good. I’m sure it’s not easy
Sometimes you end up loving something more when you take the time and effort to work at it. Usually holds more value due to the added sentiments.
That said you guys did an amazing job. That finally pic looks amazing! Should be a nice seaworthy vessel ready to go catch a few guppies at least lol.
I love the pace and the friendly informative voice behind. For self admitted amateurs you guys sure know your way around the marine store! Awesome restoration.
Nice job! I lost interest in mine a long time ago. Watching videos like this helps get me back into it.

Very inspirational, keep up the great work,I love seeing old boats come to life again, I have many wonderful memories in a boat just like this one 👍

Brooke and Dennis: I'm very impressed, this is fantastic job.
10/10 Brooke. But I think Dennis needs special recognition for this one .
Yes he sure did a lot on this one.
My only concern is when you sold the boat did you get time and materials back??? Thanks for the video Beautiful Job
I love your work,I have always wanted to do a complete refurb on a20 ft.sea ray.
You guys did a great job and through watching the video have gained a greater appreciation of boat construction! Keep up the cool videos!
That boat looks showroom new! really love those older style boats. That one looks very much like my families boat we had for years- We owned a 69 crestliner buccaneer. same type of ribbed hull.
Lotta work in refurbishment of old boats but its rewarding experience when its done great vid 👍
good lord you and your husband do amazing work! I've been wanting to get a project boat and give this kind of stuff a try. you guys are really inspiring!
I love these types of restorations. Great job.
🤜💥🤛 Lots of effort on the boat restoration not to mention all the work that goes into making such a fantastic video! Thx 🙏
Years of fun and fishing 🎣 to be had now for the new owner... nice 👍
Amazing work. Love watching what has to be done in refurbishment of these boats.
😊👍❤️
IT would be hard to give it up after all that hard work. Nice job well done.

Seriously impressive you two! Looks great. I can understand with all the effort you’d rather keep it!
Thanks for the directions to fix my little boat.
Wow very good video and you guys made her look so pretty! Hopefully you will do a follow up with the new owner!
Your videos are a pleasure to watch and have given me big ideas to use on my build. Thank you!

Thank you.
love seeing this stuff. I've got a 20ft Trophy center console that I'm getting ready to do myself. Awesome work you too!
You make it look easy and it’s definitely not ! Well done !
Pretty helpful will be starting my own project very soon
My family has been in the boat business for decades including refurbs. Back in the day, every boat had wood transoms preferably Marine plywood. Nice work ,sometimes you need to take a break from a project and get a fresh restart . Alot more work than you would think .
Nice to see an australian restoration
These old boats have so much character! Nice!

Nice refurbished guys👍 thanks for sharing your video,I like it😉
It looks brand new!!! Wow, that's really good work mate!!!
awesome job especially on all the little metal fitment pieces and what looked like rod holders. did i see some roughed up nonslip texture paint on rear corners?
only thing i question is why go back with wood? why not coosa board or similar?
Great job, looks like a lot of work. But you know what the word "boat" stands for, "bust out another thousand"
Feeling inspired! What a great accomplishment and wonderful reward at the end! -from California
whats this hull called and length ples? would love this type for my next fishing boat...great work
Wow nice work ! , I have a old 1978 Angler v bottom run about i would like to do a full re do on but just gotta find time and motivation, would be doing it all by myself unfortunately
Amazing and awesome refurbishing. Thank you for sharing.
Thats great guys awsome video, been wanting to do a rebuild for some time. This helps the confidence
You two make a great team! Cheers! Very hard job to do!

Great Video Brooke & Dennis it came up a treat
Good looking job.Well done
That was great!
Any chance of details of time/materials costs in hours/$?
I love this material please keep the projects coming.
Your work is fantastic!
In the future try Coosa board on the floor instead of plywood! It’s 1/4 of the weight and just as strong!!!!! Saved on weight! Less gas!!! More speed!
Thomas Harrell - Coosa board is just as strong but 3 times the cost...
Brooke and Dennis: Superb restoration.................
You remove the transom from the Inside you do not cut out the fiberglass mold of the boat..
Parabéns pelo trabalho, sinceramente me identifico com esse tipo de trabalho.
You did a brilliant job on that mate
the only thing I saw was you didn't leave a space for your bilge pump, since you have a very beautiful boat and it's so long to me it could have had more rod holders on the gunnals, other than that it turned out extremely nice, keep up the good work
could you attach the body filler liquids, they exact type of flo-coat, and/or add subtitles? basically any consumable liquids.
Easier than it seems. Looks great

Brilliant job, really nice finish!
That's a lot of work or labor or love the boat looked like new in the end of the video 👍☺️☺️
Nice video, very good and strong skills. Great team work!. Keep up the good work

Your husband is a cool humble guy but he’s very good in what he does ang of you too,,
Fantastic job guys! Well done!!
Great job guys very professional
Great job guys 👍
Very nice job! Thanks for sharing
question: No foam? I noticed you never replace the foam can you liberate because i really dont want to mess with foam in my dyi
Would be nice to know that the screws were removed after the floor deck was glassed in .
Nice job. It looks awesome!

Nice job and alot of useful informations
Hello from the US. I enjoyed the video
What product did you use on the seams between the plywood?
I don't think my last comment went through, I was wondering if you got your time and materials back??
build 2 boats than said hell no! buy um' already made!! LOL Great job!
Laminate timber flooring for the dash prob wasnt the best idea wet it enough times its going to swell
It's not timber it's vinyl/rubber.
Nice job and boat. Did you sell it, or put a motor on it?
Excellent job
Great job, well done.
And how much did you spend on everything
