Yeah, most of the places and buildings are still around and look essentially the same. The only major change was the demolition of the diner where they look through the want ads.
Wow these filming location then and now vids are incredible. I hope Tom Hanks the star of Big himself actually saw this one. He would be absolutely amazed how much has and hasn't changed since the time of the movie in 1988.
Absolutely brilliant. I love this film, haven't seen it in years, had it on pre recorded video when videos were modern technology. Makes me feel old thinking how long ago that was! Gonna try to find it on Netflix or whatever now as I've suddenly got an urge to watch it!
I went to see it at the theater 7 or 8 times when it first came out, I was 9 years old. Had the video store pre order the tape for me as soon as they released it to video.
That's awesome. I actually had a good time walking around the neighborhood, talking to folks and taking pictures. Do you remember any details of what you and Penny talked about?
@@gluecement I asked her about playing Myrna Turner on the Odd Couple on the first day. (Very generous response) and on the 2nd day of shooting, we chatted about the town, over coffee. The woman LOVED Cliffside.
Just watched "Big" for the nth time and was curious about the location. Started googling and came across this video. Great work!! Everything looks the same but different. The neighborhood looks so quaint in the film. The kind of neighborhood you'd like to grow up in. Now they have a yellow line through the street and the tall trees have been taken down, some replaced with smaller ones. Not quite the same feeling as before. Things change...
4:01 that's what the world had become..from toys to phones and laptops everywhere..( as a kid i wanted toys but had no money and as a 19 y/o adult i still want to buy toys and have money but there are no stores , no unique toys only video games everywhere )
Yeah I was saddened when the FAO Schwarz toy store moved out of their 5th Ave location. But just for clarification purposes: the Apple Store was only in that space for a couple years while their next door "cube" store got renovated. They vacated the space in 2019.
Great Job! A lot of these locations are well known, but how do you know the locations of all the small minutia places? Is there a website that tells you where movie locations are? I grew up 4 miles from Rye, Playland So I knew that location and most of the major NYC landmarks like the GW bridge and the FAO Schwarz etc: but how do you know all the smaller lesser-known locations. (eg: like where was Josh home in NJ?, & some of the interior scenes)
I have been researching NYC filming locations for the last 10 years. You can read about how I found some of the lesser known spots on my website, NYCinFilm. Link is in the description.
@@gluecement Thanks. I somehow missed that part. I looked it up on Google Maps and it's one street over from the house they used (at least for outside shots) in the TV show King of Queens.
Oh man the 80s and 90s were the best.
Yes
Absolutely perfect! I am very shocked/surprised as to how many locations are so easy recognizable.

Wow, the world looks so much more bland now.
Reality vs Fiction. Many of those locations were dressed up for the scenes.
This was so well done! Thanks!!
Very impressive! 10/10 Thanks for putting this together! :)
At last filming locations for big.......amazing work 👍😉
You could not have done a better job! Nice work, Appreciate it!

0:41 now that's what I call lining up a shot. Millimeter precision if you look at the bricks.

We're still jazzed in Cliffside Park, NJ over this filming. Got to talk to Penny Marshal twice during the tapings.

@@spookedhorse It's always nice to hear that someone you like and respect is nice. BYW, hope to do an Odd Couple then/now video someday.
@@gluecement Right on. True that. I'd love to see an OC clip, if and when ya do one.
One of the most unique and beautiful movies ever made
Good work
Absolutely great job!!
3:50 made me sad...the loss of an amazing toy store.

Superb! One of my favourite films.
That's one of the best 'then and now' series of transitions I've seen.
This video should have way more views... way more!
One of my favorite childhood movies growing up

Awesome job. Thank you
This is amazing, it hasn't changed a bit!!! Most of the old movie locations are unrecognizable today, not this place!
Excellent! Over the top great work! Thank you
Awesome to see Playland hasn’t changed. First rate production!
Very well put together 👌🏻
Nice and friendly plazas and shopping malls turned into stupid Apple stores.

Great video
I saw you did ELF, Big, And Big Daddy; you should do Home Alone Lost in New York!
Sad how some places aren’t the same
Excellent! Just wish it were split screen
Crazy how it changes.
Thank you
Tom hanks and robert loggia dancing on the piano with their legs. It was nice and good.
Superb! Sad though, that so much has changed. 😃
Things looked so much better then
Remember seeing the studio trailers parked in front of CPHS, while in algebra class..
amazing

Well done, thank you =)
Tom hanks did good in this movie. He turned into a grown man, while he was a kid.
Merci beaucoup ❤

I worked there in the summers of '86 and '87.

Good movie tom Hanks good actor
I feel like the old looks were better
so the FOA Schwartz was relocated?
Yes. You can read about what happened to it in a "Big" article I wrote. Link is in the description.
So where was the last location when Josh returned home as a kid?
Same place as beginning... 437 Greenmount Ave in NJ.
@@gluecement Thanks. I somehow missed that part. I looked it up on Google Maps and it's one street over from the house they used (at least for outside shots) in the TV show King of Queens.

I’m going to go make a wish at the Aquafina machine.
What, no Dragon Coaster?
Looks all a bit depressing now!
Tom is a strange Sikko.
I'm sad.
