He's honestly one of my favourite new actors and the fact that he's not 'trained' is just so inspiring. Like, if you really want to do something then just go for it.
Edil Abdi Omar he inspired me to think about acting cause he's such a wonderful actor in the movies like death Note and crown Heights I can't wait to see what he's next movie is
Getting trained to act is a good thing, but people also have to know the marketing side, business, how to find work, etc. A drama degree is not a guarantee. But acting classes can open many doors.
PurelyAfrican Things change. It's a new era. He's already past being type casted, look at the variety in the roles he's already landed. Talented actor.
LOL.. Acting is an incredibly intricat skill that 99% of the time needs intense traininl like any other skill.. its like saying you don't need training to be a Doctor or electrician.. 1% of actors can act without training..
I think he's a little too volatile and real to be compatible with a lot of different people. He's amazing, but I can't see him having the mass appeal of someone like Denzel. I actually think that's a good thing for his work; Denzel has been in some real stinkers.
Is not what you think he means, he literally means in the room, like be rejected but still get a feel for how auditions are supposed to go and learn to be in the room when auditioning. He explained it on another interview
As a talent agent I completely approve of this message. That agent that found him is one of the best because he had a great eye for this amazing actor with such range and passion.
Film Courage I was watching his BC interview when it first released because his character Darius in Atlanta drew me in. In a way I am very similar to Darius and LaKeith at the same time because he played the character effortlessly. At least I saw it that way. I said "wow this guy's a really good actor". When I heard his story on how he became who he is today I said "hell I took drama at a magnet school" maybe I should get back in. I knew right away that I wanted to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. I havent acted in at least 15-16 years. I'd feel more in my zone behind the scenes. My creativity has lead to a project called "30 Years", it'll be a doc/mov about the last 30 years of this countries chaos while I bike from NY to LA. Where I hope to meet other filmmakers to help me complete this project.
Film Courage I also watched your "Film Finance" video for help on that. I figured I'll finance this myself since I have a year to save. I doubt anyone would be interested in financing my ideas so I have to do it on my own to display my passion for this and also provide amazing content.
Really? When I first saw him, I thought of a shy 7th grader in the corner of the classroom with a lot of brains and looks lol. I have a big imagination
Lots of wisdom being offered here that can be adapted to almost anyone's desire to fulfill their life and find something meaningful. If you're a young adult, Lakeith Stanfield's words should not go amiss. Peace King.
Emily hancock it's the calm, peaceful cocoa eyes. My nephew has eyes like that. I just try to teach him to respect ladies, men, whatever he may be in to....and he's into a lot...
Terrence Cagandahan If you haven't you should watch Short Term 12. Lakeith does a great job in it, and it also stars Brie Larson, Rami Malek, and Stephanie Beatriz if you're a fan of any of them
His is my favorite character on Atlanta. His role in Short Term 12 also super powerful. Can't wait to see Sorry to Bother You...This dude is truly an inspiration. Would love to meet him someday.
Yes. This. Lakeith is a hardworker and the real deal. I mean have you seen Short Term 12 y'all? His work ethic speaks volumes. The output and work shows both on and off screen. Major takeaways.
Sometimes I feel like the work I put into it, is not worth the reward I get out of it. But it's interviews like these that get me back on track. Great rewards only come to those who struggle through adversity.
I recongnised him from Netflix’s ‘The Amazing Jessica James.’ Can’t believe I still haven’t watched Atlanta. Great energy from this guy, may be contiune to rise!
Thanks, this was an exciting day for us. We're thrilled to share this interview. LaKeith's work in Crown Heights is top notch along with the rest of the cast. Highly recommend watching the movie.
The "Modeling and Acting Career Center" that initially taught him and connected him to agents was John Casablancas. I lived in Atlanta and went there and booked a ton of work. Props to JC and another JC alum!
Wow and swoon - This casual interview, just off the cuff, with such honesty, generosity of spirit - should be a TED talk for any artist in any field. LaKeith is so good in every role I've ever seen him play, and clearly it was his fearless perseverance that shaped his skills and determination. That is a mighty message. It's a better world when people like LaKeith are in the spotlight.
Have you ever heard someone speak and felt like you've been waiting for them your whole life, like they're that one good friend you have always wanted but never had? That's how Lakeith makes me feel.❤
If u want to go into acting,be sure that acting is what u want to do,ppl look at the glitz and the glamour and think it's a bed of roses. Know from now that u will face alot of rejections..I will also suggest to go into other avenues of filmmaking whether it's writing ,editing, direct or fashion
ruddiato This is my path, yes I want to act but I also want to write, produce, direct.. anything that has to do film or even musical art. If acting doesn't work out for me than I'll be taking my path with being the person that works behind the scenes with cameras, lighting, sound etc I want to be involved in some way within the art industry.
I’m truly grateful for this interview. I’m leaving wiser and a little more confident in my journey. Thank You I hope all of you take goodness from this interview too
Bradley yeah he did lol wow I saw the cartoon and he really killed that role he's one of my new favorites in acting and music I heard his band music Moors
Kareem Abdullah He did the best with what crap they gave him....Trash movie and I'm pissed he was part of it...That adaption wasn't worthy of having this man a part of it.
Smart and thoughtful cat. It's so good to hear an interview with an actor you admire and he turns out to be deep and cool in real life too. Going to check out more of his work.
I watched "Get out" yesterday. I felt like I knew this dude but I actually didn't (French extremely casual movie watcher here). I felt that déjà-vu, ery weird feeling seeing him as Logan. He must look like someone I know. His acting is pretty excellent.
Also to constantly expand yourself in order to be more capable of accessing more characters and experiences is such great advice. I love that he feud the most rewarded from stepping out of his box. Me too
I worked with Lakeith on a documentary reenactment called "Verbatim: The Ferguson Case,'' back in 2015. We only chatted at a crafty table for a minute but he was very kind and focused. He delivered a great performance, and I knew he'd be something. I even jokingly said at the time that he looked like a young Snoop Dogg, because he had a goatee and dreads. A few months later, Straight Outta Compton came out, and he played young Snoop.
I predict great things for Stanfield. He's proving to be an exceptional actor with Atlanta and seems like a genuinely nice, sensible and intelligent person IRL.
" I'd rather get rejected than to miss it" Powerful
Honestly, its a cliche quote worded differently.
"You miss all the chances you don't take."
Vividly It's a similar sentiment but a different quote, not necessarily a cliché.
@@vividly94 Clichés verify their validity through repeated proof of concept. If it works it works.
YES! I love that too haha. As a talent agent myself that just gave me chills man. I look everywhere and anywhere for people like this.
@@vividly94 there’s a difference between missing your shot and not taking it

YEEEEESSS!!!!!!!!! He moved so quickly an escaped the type casting
so happy for him
5 minutes are enough to realize how freaking smart, talented and motivated this man is. He's gonna be huge soon. He deserves it all.
Ranca666 and he's literally in EVERYTHING. I firmly believe he's our generation's Denzel.
I agree
I think he's a little too volatile and real to be compatible with a lot of different people. He's amazing, but I can't see him having the mass appeal of someone like Denzel. I actually think that's a good thing for his work; Denzel has been in some real stinkers.
He fawken sucked in deathnote
You’re absolutely right, you posted this 3 years ago, he’s came so far now!! I just watched him in Judah’s and the black messiah, he’s everythingggg🙏🏽
"Meant to be rejected but be in the room." THAT'S some powerful words right there... wow man.
Art'uro TM where?
Alvaro Elias it's on his right hand
Is not what you think he means, he literally means in the room, like be rejected but still get a feel for how auditions are supposed to go and learn to be in the room when auditioning. He explained it on another interview
RAJ Mecco What do you think she thinks it means? Lol

One of my favorite actors of this generation, inspired me to become a filmmaker.

He dropped straight gems for 9 mins

This guy was great in 'Get Out', he was the stand-out performance in my opinion. He stole the scene he was in. I'm gonna keep my eye on this guy.

Really? When I first saw him, I thought of a shy 7th grader in the corner of the classroom with a lot of brains and looks lol. I have a big imagination
I love the funny, laid-back, street-genius character he plays on Atlanta
He is so remarkably intelligent for a person who wasn’t “trained” I love that about him!
I met him on tthe set of Atlanta (I was a extra playing a sheriff)) and he was a pretty kool guy
Mlucious67 were u in the alligator man scene? Lmao
Alligator man?!
He was in alligator
FieldOfWheat95 there’s no need to prove anything, he was an EXTRA!

There's an actor I would love to work with. Great presence and so much useful knowledge.
Not to be dramatic but I love him and I’m so glad to see black actors like him out here
Nice, to see him on here! And giving great information for people interested in the acting.

The questions in this interview were good! Such a different side from the boring, shallow questions actors usually get. Great job

His answers apply to life, not just acting.
What an insightful interview! This is such a good message for any young performer, especially in the midst of facing rejection.
