- Just unbelievable how easy it was to upgrade the steering linkage on my truck. It was the simplest form of bolt-on application I have experienced yet. Other good news with this installation. Here is a link to what I bought.

I just ordered same part hopefully everything is stright forward as yours. 🤞

Love your truck and videos. Keep the love for the 2nd Gens.:-)
Ty bro.
These trucks are like legos! Interchangeable parts are awesome. Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to save up and do this to my 2002 4x4 Cummins

@@conquryourfear Would this work on a 97 1500 with a dana44?
I made this upgrade to my 99 3500 4x4 dually. It was NOT drop-in. I had to purchase the correct tapered reamer and ream the spindles for the larger taper. I also had to shorten the tie rod in order to set the toe. It's a big improvement over OEM but certainly not "drop in".
2000-02 it’s drop in.
I have a 95 4x4 so this will fit . I want to up grade my truck . . I was not sure the tapers were the same on the tie rods . Thanks
Holy moly that is one of the best looking Dodge Ram trucks I've ever seen in my life. That front end is insane, and I really like your tire and wheel setup. So many guys screw those up it's not even funny. I really want to do that front end conversion on my Second Gen now though. 😂😅

@@conquryourfear and thank you for the content!
Really trying to catch up on what all is newer than about 2007 tech lol. Most of the upgrades I remember doing with my dad were around that time period. Your videos I feel are going to be invaluable!
@@conquryourfear ahh, that said...did you ever do the Steering Bushing upgrade from RSRTS?
@@connorbaz5980 I did. Much better. Pain in the butt to install. Tip: when u r inserting their washer around the steering shaft, don’t shove it in too far. If your steering is too stiff then you went to far in-double pain in the butt to adjust it back out. Ok brother
@@conquryourfear for sure. We've had guys break parts further up in the shaft because they used hammers to drive the bushing in. Definitely don't recommend that lol.
I actually made those bushings from about 2007 to just a couple years ago. We had another supplier for a few years to help too. Test fitting was done on a couple columns we had in the shop, but what worked on ours didn't always translate to everyone's.
Something that helped with a really tight shaft was to make a cut on one side of the bushing with a hacksaw or bandsaw blade, which allowed for any variations in diameter.
Otherwise, we would send out replacements or refunds depending on what the customer wanted.
That said, it was always a pretty small operation. Definitely could have worked out a lot of jank, but for some reason it was really hard to get anything changed around there. Not the best work environment LOL.

Really nice upgrade brother.
Everything you said is correct, My steering was horrible, 2002 2500 (2nd gen) lifted 6" with 35's , it wondered all over the place and was very sloppy, so I replaced the steering gearbox and that made it way better, but when I replaced the moog steering kit, WOW unbelievable !!! thanks for sharing...
Happy to hear your hard work and determination paid off. Rock on, brother.
I am getting ready to do this on my 2001 2500. Mine is on 37" tires and a 6" lift. I only got the Moog kit without the new pitman arm. I am wondering if I should do the angled down pitman arm? Did you do a new pitman arm on yours with the 6" lift on 35s? Also did you have to buy a new separate locknut for the drug link where it goes through the pitman arm and if so do you have a part#?
@@davebeegle2524 no, I needed nothing but the Moog kit shown in the video. I suspect that my pitman is not original cause my drag link is mounted under the pitman with the nut on top. I would think you would mount the drag in the same position it is in. If you want a photo of something, I can take one for you.
@@Aerialscope-eo9jz Thanks! My drag link comes in from the top and it's definitely the stock "s" shaped pitman arm on mine...so pretty sure I will probably need the down sloping pitman arm...actually thinking I will go ahead and do a new steering box at the same time...I suppose the "upside" is that I won't need to remove the old pitman arm 😀...just really like the idea of everything "new"...thinking a upgraded redhead box.

I just did this upgrade to my truck a while back, I was under it the other day and noticed my steering pitman arm bolt had made a big gouge in the tie rod, I guess it's just fat enough that if the suspension comperess they will hit, something to watch? 🤷🤔
I’m going to have to check mine out
What truck do you have? and was that bottoming out or just regular use?
Hello. On my 1999 2500 diesel, after 125K my steering got sloppy. This truck came from the factory with T style steering. I put on a new heavier duty Moog track bar. I tried a Red Head steering box which was disappointing. I then upgraded to a PSC big bore box which was still a bit loose, but has been adjusted for a better response. I put on XRF ball joints and they were very stiff at first. I think XRF claims of longevity are a bit optimistic? I still have some wandering issues but not nearly as bad as before.
You running big tires?

look into the steering column. There's a bushing that wears out on some of them I guess. I just found out about it last night so I don't know too much about it.
I'm about ready to put in a new steering box on my 2001, mines the 5.9 magnum tho I guess the front ends came the same. But yeah after watching this I'm definitely upgrading to the newer front end. My truck isn't returning to center, so I hope the new gear box will fix that issue, but I was looking at my tie rods and they look like they probably will need replaced too. I just got this truck it's my first dodge so far I like it except for the steering issue.
So if I buy a steering stabilizer does it have to be for a 4 gen ?

Just watched your video. The question I have is, did you have to change steering pitman arm? Other videos and post I've checked some say yes, others don't mention it. I'd like to do this to my '01 4x4 cummins, just unsure if I need a new arm or not.
Why would I need to? What is the reason they are saying?
They don't really explain why. I'm guessing they purchased a kit that contained it and so the changed them out.
Thanks for the response, much appreciated.
Yeah I also saw a video that said the same thing that it needs a few mods to make it work
To my understanding the new pitman arm relieves the angle of the joint. But I’m working on a 3rd gen so maybe it’s different
my 01 cummins required the pitman arm to be changed out to the 3rd/4th gen pitman arm with this kit, as the taper on the drag link joint is bigger than that on the 2nd gen.
Where did u get that dodge ram grill that is bad ass! Want to get one for my 2nd gen now.

How much lift do you have on your truck? I have a 5 inch on mine and I did this same swap last summer and I’m not sure if I like it, it feels like it made my bump steer worse. Also the drag link is super close to my passenger side swaybar link and I had to take the grease fitting out of it to keep it from breaking it off
I only have a 1 1/2 front leveler. You take your truck 4-wheeling; is this when you experience the bump steer? I have no issue with the drag link too close to my sway bar end link.
You may need a drop pitman arm if you haven’t already installed one.
@@OGJuggernaut why?
I have a drop pitman arm and this truck doesn’t go off-road too much. I’ve been driving it for probly 6 months and it hasn’t hit the swaybar link yet so it must be ok. The bump steer is still kinda annoying sometimes but it’s not too bad
@@douganderson7002 lol what? Did I even say what size my tires were for you to think they’re “way too big?” You’re comin for the wrong guy trust me, my truck isnt one of these “mall crawlers” you speak of. I said my truck doesn’t go off-road, but that just means I don’t purposely take it off-road for shits & giggles, it goes off-road when it has to. I don’t have a lift for no reason, my truck has a purpose that stock height and some little 31’s won’t handle. Also my steering box is new and has no play, not that that would cause bump steer anyway🤦♂️

On Dana axles, the knuckles will need to be reamed, plus the tie rod and drag link shortened. It is NOT a direct bolt on. The Dana axles are 2 inches narrower than the AAM. In the end it screws up the geometry with the shorter drag link and you get bump steer.

Dodge front ends are probably the worst ones! There are alot of joints with bushings that were out. A little wera/play in any one of them can cause any number of things up to the famous 'death wobble'! If u think your steering box is worn out, I think I would replace that 1st. Then you can go at the other front end components as u have time and money. I would not replace any front end with stock parts. Too many Chinese knock offs that are just no good.
