Next time if you are going to space let me know and I'll throw in luck! Whether it works or not. lol I am always sure to be present when I am dancing. As usual, the problem was Executives and PR people interfering, who also didn't understand their own product. I'll never forget that quote from one of the suits: "SW Galaxies players want to be Luke Skywalker, not Owen Lars." No, Owen Lars was exactly who we wanted to be, it was OUR saga, not us playing out someone else’s, that was even the whole initial selling point of the game! The original skill system just topped that off, you could come up with so many werid and wonderful combinations, that gave you a much higher probablity of being unique, at least within your server.

      They were idiots, made the best game ever then trashed it. Hell if they kept decay for your gear in the NGE it would of been decent. but they destroyed the whole player driven economy, making it so you never had to buy anything again which killed the entire crafting profession.

    • @ClassicMagicMan
      @ClassicMagicMan Год назад +29

      Yeah, it was "Our Saga". The initial player base signed up not to impersonate our favorite characters, but to become them ourselves.
      The "path to Jedi" was the beginning of the end for this game, though I didn't mind the unlocking of "force sensitivity" as a sort of prestige system.

    • @tipigi3570
      @tipigi3570 11 месяцев назад +16

      It was a great game in the beginning, when every profession relied on other professions. The scouts got hides and bones, which were needed by the crafting professions, which made things everyone bought. The fighter types needed those artisans, and then needed the dancers to heal battle fatigue, and doctors to heal wounds. It was a well orchestrated mix of professions that you just don't see in many, if any, games these days.
      It's also the biggest problems of all of these emulators today. They're just dead... full of empty player-made cities. If you're lucky, you'll find one city (Eisley) that has some people in it. It's surprising to see anyone running around anywhere else.
      I wonder if in the near future, if quality AI-controlled NPCs could improve things...

Then do a lot of flying. I just remember being blown away by everything around me. Force users were a relatively rare sight (as opposed to everybody being a jedi/sith). I remember stopping to stare as a high level dark side force wielder rolled up and killed two guards with ease.

At one point, I had the best doctor buffs on the server that lasted 3+ hours. So many hours surveying planets and dropping harvesters. You could find a good spawn that lasted a week or just a few hours. Harvesting the right materials made millions. Always had the best resources for buffs, heals, armorsmith, weaponsmith, shipwright and got some nice gear making deals. Back in the day, the community would constantly updating the forums with stats and locations every time a resources spawn changed. So many good memories, even met my ex-girlfriend in game and we dated for years.. I still have 3 Facebook friends that I met playing over 15 years ago.,

    I'm gonna say for any people looking to get into SWG for the first time, you should probably checkout SWG Legends first.
    It's the most active server by miles, a difference between 1000+ at peak times and 100+ at peak times on other servers, and it's by and far the most developed and well maintained server available.
    I genuinely recommend it over any other server for people completely new to SWG, or even old players looking to come back. SWG isn't SWG without a big community to make it feel like the living universe it is.

      Sony dumbed down the original plan for Jedi. I think one of the original creators of SWG mentioned that perma-death and the "random" unlock system were the plans originally but then that wasn't liked by the execs so they added holocrons (I think) that would give you clues to unlock Jedi and removed the perma-death. Finally with the NCE they just allowed everyone to start out as one and I think that really killed it for most people. People didn't want to do WoW in Star Wars, they wanted the unique sandbox style game that SWG originally was.

    Unpopular opinion, but that brief post-CU/pre-NGE era of the game was one of my favorite time frames. They were slowly, but surely working out the kinks of the professions and there was a fair amount of content. Shame thay they dumped it all for the NGE.

    I don't understand why a successor based on the same scheme hasn't appeared long ago. Times have never been better for the Star Wars franchise!
    About the “Old Republic” Game from EA: People don’t want to play in an old republic that’s far removed from film. Could be an intersting subplot, not more. You want to enjoy cities, creatures and ships from the original series. The fact that EA didn't understand this back then is also a mystery to me. The time for a new Star Wars MMO is NOW!

    The crafting was so unique because the quality was not static. Players scouring planets testing the available resources before setting up player built extractors. Once the resources were exhausted or a better source located, the extractor fields would be disassembled or 'fade' after a set amount of time without maintenance. Introducing player Jedi to this time frame destroyed the player built economy since everything beyond the most basic items for beginners was player made. To 'unlock' your Jedi you had to master 3 of the available professions without a clue to which they were. Players were grinding professions and all the 'stores' and contacts one had for your profession's items was tossed to the wind. Everything made was low level junk made just to level XP instead of provide a community with a 'real' experience.

      This is not true for any server, although some of them keep the disclaimer just out of legal caution. There is no way for them to validate whether you're using a legitimate copy anyway. Some of them don't require any existing installation and will download everything through their launcher.

There have been zero other games that have been this amazing. from multiple planets you could not only fly to but to have an actual fully populated globe... multiple planets all different things to see. So many professions. Player cities with travel hubs. Actual sustainable economy with shops and trade professions. It was so cool. Hidden paths to jedi (at one point). It was such a good game that I'm glad it died. I wasted many years of my life on that. I was totally addicted. I haven't got that invested into a game since. It kinda broke my heart.

I used to leave it running whilst I went to college then work. Usually always came home with 10+ million credits daily - did that for 9 months straight. The good ol' days.
