As someone who was/is a content creator for this game. This has to be the most real new player experience video I’ve ever seen. It’s fair, and compelling. And I appreciate that man. Hope you’re still enjoying the game!
You have crafting, housing, new story coming at higher lvl, events. There is so much more for you to find out. This is a good game. Good to see people making videos of this game still this day.
It's a bad mmo game with a lot of fairly cool writing, it's a bad kotor game because of all the mmo elements, but It's still the last echo of bioware magic we'll ever get again 😢
You saying this game came out 12 years ago aged me like curdled milk, I can’t believe it was that long ago 😭 loving these types of vids on your channel!!!
Yeah I was in my mid thirties then but still on the lower end closer to 20, than 40, now I’m closer to 50! 😂 But it’s all good. I kinda am going for that I-don’t-age vampire thing. especially since I have a young mind and heart.
Glad you like it. SWTOR is really a hidden gem in the MMO space. Been playing since beta test and launch so it's great to see new players get into it. For me the Sith Warrior class storyline is by far the best. Then the Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent stories are tied for second.
i disagree, the sith warrior is the most typical sith story. i love it but what you see is what you get. the imperial agent is the suprise you dont see coming. it was truly incredible especially because it doesnt have something as cool as a force user to lean on for a main character.
@@gothxm I can see that perspective. I agree with the premise but not your conclusion. For me the Sith Warrior story was so great because it's exactly a typical Sith story. You get to play through a nearly perfectly crafted master and apprentice power struggle with a really interesting Emperor involved twist as well. It's especially great if you've read the book Darth Revan setting up context for the whole Emperor's Wrath. The pacing is just so perfect for me too. With that said the Agent is probably my second favorite with the Sith Sorcerer being my third, though those two might be tied for 2nd for me. The Agent was pretty predictable to me though so maybe that's why it didn't impact me like it did you, then again it is my 2nd favorite so I like them both.
Ah. SWTOR. So many good memories! This game is like OSRS to me. Even though I take breaks every now and then, something about it keeps me coming back for more. It also helps that I am a huge Star Wars nerd! :) So for the whole "Crew Skills" debacle that you had. They actually do kind of introduce it early on in your journey. So, after you finish your starting planet (i.e. Korriban in your case) Once you get to the Imperial Fleet station and you get off the elevator for the first time reaching the main floor, there should have been a terminal with some missions waiting for you, and in that terminal is a mission to go learn about said "Crew Skills". I will agree that its not really in your face about it and doesn't really stand out. So yeah, they kind of introduce them but not really... Either way at the end of the day, I am glad you were able to enjoy the game and hope you continue to have fun! Maybe I will see you around the Galaxy.
I suppose the issue is that its not really introduced in a natural way that new players would know about. Something like another cutscene when interacting with the ships steward would be a good way to do it as it would be natural for 2V or C4 to tell you about what else the ship offers or is also installed with that teaching module.
I REALLY wanted to enjoy this game and put around 60 hours into it over 3 months but it just didn't do it for me. The only MMO that I can't fully quit is WoW vanilla (on private servers) whether I like it or not.
Still go back to it all the time. To get the most out of the expansions i recommend doing it as a sith warrior. However my favorite story is definitely the imperial agent. Sniper goes brrrr with burst damage too so super fun in pvp.
Imperial agents have the greatest range of storymaking decisions of any class. Every class story has meaningful choices, but nothing like what the agent can do. Don’t want to spoil, but at the end of each act agent has to make highly consequential decisions. Relatively speaking, the other classes are just along for the writers’ ride.
Knight, Warrior, and Inquisitor are really the only classes I feel are worthwhile to take through the expansions. Knight and Warrior for the obvious connection, but the actual beats of the story fit inquisitor just as well and right behind the Knight I think the expansions feel the most like a direct continuation of their base class story. For warrior I just cannot see the character I created becoming a leader of any large scale alliance lol
I went through a big SWTOR kick earlier this year and really enjoyed it. I played through all of the force user storylines, and my favourite so far has been a light side Sith Warrior. I will definitely be going back to play the other classes sometime soon. Glad to see you enjoyed the game as well
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, the bug of having to accept the eula everytime you boot the game is a steam launcher issue that can be solved by either switching to the client from the swtor website or grabbing the eula.settings file from that launcher (need to startup the launcher at least once for it to generate) and putting it in the main folder for the game in steam
@@christiananders9945 I had to do the same thing, and this really works ^^ tbh I don't think Steam could ban you, as it is their problem that EULA on their platform doesn't save in the files... they should really look into this :'D
I started playing again about a month ago and that got very annoying. Your fix is the right fix for sure. Just googled it and easy instructions later no more scrolling! I guess I could have just used the standalone launcher without steam but where is the fun in that.
@@KrillinTime Only fix for it I've been able to find, and for Steam players, the bug is common! Should have been fixed, I've seen reports going back years.
One of the wins is that when you buy 30 days of subscription, you gain preferred status. Even when your subscription expires you get to keep every expansion you unlocked plus some subscription features for your account permanently. This game is extremely generous with its content.
Lemme correct your mistake, you will keep expansion unlocked if you play the content in that character. The character you created at the end of the subscription won't be able to play that expansion if you don't start it on that character particularly. So saying "You will keep every expansion unlocked" is wrong. (I tested myself and found out how subscription works, so don't give false hope to people who will think they have to have a subscription once and they will have the content unlocked for all of their characters.)
@@mustafaozturk2542 I’ve made wholely new characters who get access to all the expansions even on preferred status so I don’t understand what ur referring to.
@@a-shanda-productions I have a preferred status account which I had couple of time subscription and if I create a character right now, that character will not have access to content like knights of the fallen empire unless I purchase a subscription but my oldest character has access to knights of the fallen empire despite being preferred status.
Ive been playing for a good 3 or 4 years now and i still love it like the day i started. I love that they continue to update and add stuff. Hopefully the new Dev team keeps up the good work.
Really enjoyed this video. I've always felt that SWTOR is underrated and I love knowing that people are still discovering it for the first time. My personal favorite class story was Imperial Agent, but honestly I like all of them.
Yes know the feeling. Sadly Eaware's Swtor skeleton crew working at basement stopped them from happening just two'ish years later 😕 Musco puppeteer has always been like at high state of mind during poor livestreams. Shameful moves & lack of them in past four to five years. [GOT's Walk of Shame to all of them] 🥴 [Dedicated veterans who like the feeling of 'job well done' want classic swtor server) 🤞
I played the game at launch, but due to playing WoW fulltime, I couldn't continue with SWTOR. I just started playing again, funnily enough, around the time you released this video that I just found tonight! I would say your experience was pretty spot-on with mine (minus your tech issues, thankfully). The funniest part was finding the zoom out option, which I thought I had looked for and not found previously and ended up finding after doing some Googling. I am almost finished with the Jedi Consular (Sage/Telekinetics) storyline, then I plan on bouncing between factions to get through all of them. I already have my order laid out too, based on how others have rated the storyline. Great video, and I've subbed after watching a few other of yours on similar topics.
How is WoW? I played the first 12 levels and I wasn’t so sure about it, I really enjoyed it but I just want to play SWTOR and then move to WoW but I just wanted to know if it was worth it as a new player
@@thatboynuudl2095 I would say, yes, absolutely. They have done a great job at revamping the leveling process, so it is pretty welcoming to new players. Plus if you like alts, you can level them through different eras/expansions (1 expansion is enough to get caught up to current expansion).
I love playing SWTOR. Unfortunately, I don't have much time right now to play it due to work commitments but I want to get back into it soon. A very fair evaluation of this game. Liked watching the playthrough.
I've been playing since 2019 and started subscribing because I had not been able to play due to my computer being unable to handle the game beforehand, even though I had briefly tried to. Since then I have amassed a massive amount of hours in the game. I actually have the game through Steam now, although I started with the regular SWTOR client...and I have never had the problem of dealing with the ToC screens every time I logged in. Since SWTOR became available through Steam, I have had 4,750 hours and have completed all 8 class stories (several of them quite a few times over). I tend to play for the story, doing Flashpoints solo on story mode. I have done some Operations, some group Flashpoints, quite a bit of PvP (although I still suck), and GSF (which is super hard, but still kinda fun if I'm in the mood to get my ass handed to me like a hat). I am kind of amazed you didn't see the crew skills earlier when you first went to Fleet. There is a little kiosk in the Crew Skill/Strongholds area that has a quest to learn a crew skill. You learn the crew skill you choose, then immediately interact with the trainer again. You won't be able to learn the level 500 crew skills unlock that takes you to level 700 (the crew skill cap), but you get XP for just interacting immediately. I do it for every new toon I am leveling when I first get to Fleet. Most of the time I get just Slicing as it is easy quick cash while questing. Although any and all of the gathering skills can earn you cash on the GTN by selling the materials. Look into videos by Swtorista about anything you want to learn more about. She is an invaluable resource. My favorite storylines: 1. Jedi Knight (Light Side) - My main is a Concentration Sentinel (mirror of the Marauder) on Satele Shan 2. Sith Inquisitor (Light or Dark) - My main on Star Forge is a Lightning Sorcerer, but now learning Madness Sorcerer spec. I also have a Lightning Sorc going through the KotFE expansion on Satele Shan presently. The voice of the male SI is Euan Morton, whose real-life son is Iain Armitage...young Sheldon Cooper on Young Sheldon. If you ever decide to play another SI as a female, there is a way to flirt with Talos Drelik that is good for a laugh! I won't say what my favorite romance is in the base game from all of the classes, but Ashara is almost bottom of the list. She's a great companion, especially if you set her to damage or tank, but otherwise a tad annoying. 3. Bounty Hunter - At first I wouldn't say I liked it, but now I really like it. Dark or Light, I always make sure to go full-out Mandalorian! 4. Sith Warrior (Light Side) - I am playing through the class again on two different toons one a full Light Side, the other a full Dark Side, to do the romance I have not done with one of the companions, which can be either a Dark Side or Light Side companion...I won't say more. There are two romancable companions for the SW. 5. Imperial Agent (Light Side) - This is actually probably the strongest storyline with the most divergences of where you can take it. It's James Bond in Star Wars. My first playthrough was Dark Side and a Chiss (very Admiral Thrawn), but my favorite playthrough was a Human and Light Side. 6. Republic Trooper (Light Side mainly) - I am a sucker for military stories, and this is a really good one, but a lot of people are not fond of it. If you've played Mass Effect, the female Trooper is the same voice as the Female Sheperd in ME, Jennifer Hale (who also voices Satele Shan and a few other small characters in SWTOR, including reprising Bastila Shan in the Jedi Consular story, from KOTOR). I had to do a playthrough of the Trooper as a FemShep cosplay...it was a lot of fun, but expensive in Space Barbie terms. 7. Smuggler - I love this story, but you have to be in the right mood and frame of mind. Basically, there are A LOT of comedic opportunities with the Smuggler, and it is the most breezy storyline. But, like I said...you have to be in the mood. Some quests are just flat-out comedy. I love the Gunslinger spec, and other players like the Scoundrel spec (which I don't), which were the original ways to play the class. Oh, you do get a Wookie companion at one point, but he ain't the greatest at healing. 8. Jedi Consular (Light Side) - I have yet to try this Dark Side, but this is the slowest-moving story. Lots of lore. The male JC is voiced by Nolan North aka Nathan Drake from Uncharted, but he is kinda boring as the character, the female-voiced SI is better. The story is a bit bland overall compared to the others. I don't hate it at all, it's just really slow.
You’re experience is funnily enough exactly how my first impressions were! I was kinda skeptical and confused when i started out. Now I’ve spent over 500 hours on it and multiple subscriptions, it’s just such an amazing game.
The game used to be a true MMO in the fact you had to group for alot of the content, but when player numbers started to dwindle they made it more solo friendly with optional co-op
It wasn't even that, it was just the complaints of people not being good. They didn't gear up their companions. Didn't work on their influence. Couldn't plan out their builds. Then didn't try to learn any of this or improve. Even back in the day, when companions were unique, we had Heroic 2/2+/4, and the like, you could solo most heroics and FPs. You could easily duo (I got my then gf into Star Wars because she wanted to play an MMO together). The constant complaining, and silence of those rising to the challenge, is what homogenized the game. Case in point, could kill companions in beta. Then people killed companions and were like "omg I don't get another?! Whaddya mean I don't have a healer because I killed my healer?!" "Wait, these good guys can tell I've fallen to the Dark side and don't treat me like I'm light side?! That's so unfair!!!"
@@Theinen84 They changed the game a lot when I first started to play SWTOR the sentinel class would become an offer around level 30. You had an option to change your fighting style of your own and it allowed you to switch between classes. They removed that feature from the game and made it simpler. Also, the majority of the player base in SWTOR is interested in the stories rather than group content such as dungeon raids.
@@mustafaozturk2542 If you are a subscriber you can choose a second fighting style which you can switch. Usually the second one i choose to be Stealth so i can just go through quests faster.
@@nrliii You are not allowed to change your fighting style forms like in the past. You were able switch between Shii-Cho to Soresu or from Soresu to Shii-Cho. Those forms were skills back then.
I started playing with game when I was like 12 or so with my adopted dad staying up till 4am grinding our character stories together…years later I wanted to try it out again and got my own laptop and started fresh. It was amazing having all the memories of us playing together rush back. I got most of my characters lvl up to max, but only a few stories missions done. I mostly just grinded away the co-op raids. I stopped playing and years later checked out my main character. I was now the leader of my old guild with a few hundred million credits in the bank…I took it all and left. I love this game.
Been playing MMO's since 1999 with EQ1. I've played or tried almost every popular MMO out there. SWTOR is one of my favorites that I always come back to. The stories are great and it made me fall in love with the Star Wars universe. Also its cool to see other still picking uup the game in 2023 and enjoying it. Lastly, I really enjoyed the format of your video so new sub from me. Looking for to more content. Keep it up.
You can move your character by holding down both mouse buttons. I use my mouse for movement and my keyboard entirely for combat, can use the pause menu to create your own custom keybinds to your faveourite abilities
I started playing this game when it launched, and didn't quite understand it at the time, so I wrote it off because I was excited that I got my own copy of WoW Cataclysm. That being said, I came back to this game later and fell in love with how they improved it considerably, I started playing as a Dark Side Bounty Hunter Merc, and loved the interactions with the NPCs in their storyline, but I actually finished the Trooper storyline first 😂
In 2016 they had the Dark vs Light event. There was a 12x XP boost for everything. The players asked for the boost to stay when it ended, so BioWare compromised with a 6x XP boost to Class and Planetary missions. This way players could level up mainly from the best part of the game, the Class missions. Heroic then Planetary missions are my second and third best way to level, especially with the up-to-date gear rewards.
The 12x XP boost was for the launch of Shadow of Revan in 2014, the DvL event rewarded players with the Victorious Pioneer armour set which had a 50% XP bonus. The XP boost in place now is 4x and came into effect with the launch of 4.0, Knights of the Fallen Empire.
Since you're enjoying the story that you can dig into in the planets and with the story for your class, I HIGHLY recommend the Imperial Agent. It is arguably the BEST class story in the game... and I frickin' HATE spy game b.s. THAT is how good it is, that even somebody who hates that stuff absolutely loves the story. Also, I feel like this is a genuinely fantastic and accurate assessment for things in the game, both the good and the bad. Well done, mate!
Playing it female and male also chiss or human changes story aspects. You will see new options that you won't be able to see otherwise. I played the imp agent as a Chiss first, and my loyalties were with the Chiss faction rather than the imperials.
For th enew folks wondering how to work around the leveling slowdown at 20. Open your map. Go to map filters and turn on Exploration Missions. Suddenly you will start seeing all of the hundreds of side quests that are default hidden for some reason. A subscriber does not actually need to do those as they level just fine with just the class and planet missions. But they really help f2p, Don't be afraid of leveling too fast. Everything autoscales. So if you hit 80 halfway through the planets, it doesn't matter.
In case you haven't yet solved the issue of the EULA acceptance on every startup, (16:46) this can be fixed by installing the launcher from the official website, logging into it, then copying the "eula.settings" file from the new game's root directory (default = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic") to your Steam version. (default = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars - The Old Republic") This seems to be a Steam specific issue. You don't need to let the launcher finish downloading either, as soon as you're logged in, the file is made.
As I have played this game since the beginning, I sometimes watch these to understand what hurdles new players go through, as I seriously *don't* remember a thing. 12 years? Bloody hell, I feel so old now. Another thing is, the game is vastly different than it was all those years ago, so, there's that. Honestly, Inquisitor might be my one of my favourite stories. Also Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent - and you are bound to hear that IA is the *BEST* story in the game, and I would not disagree with that statement, as it is quite amazing. Pubside stories are... there. For Jedi Knight, you gotta basically do homework, seeing as it is basically KOTOR 3, and reading the Revan book fills up a lot of gaps. Also makes the otherwise utterly boring story engaging. My advice on playing pubside - play it Dark. It's a lot more fun and you don't end up like a goody two shoes preacher most of the time.
Well thanks for checking out the video, I'm surprised so many long term players have been giving me feedback on what stories to try out and how to enjoy the game best in the future. And yeah, I'm having a lot of fun with dark options at the moment, though I'm sure I'll make a holier than thou almost passive aggressive good guy in the future, because I've met too many of those people IRL and I think it would be a good exercise to put myself in their shoes for a moment :p
I really wish they'd release a "SWTOR Classic", how the game was before they dumbed the game down. Before the bigger expansions, getting to max level would take the average person at least 1 - 3 months. It was a journey. You were very engaged with the crafting system because that's what it was built for, the journey. You had to do the class missions AND the planet story missions. The game had you drink everything in. It was amazing. Combat was actually challenging. Your companion wasn't able to do all the fighting for you. You had to plan accordingly. The game felt so cheap and lost a lot of meaning after they overhauled it. Getting your own space ship was a HUGE deal. You had to use it. No teleporting all over the place to check off your quests. You actually experienced the world of Star Wars, not log in to do a bunch of task management chore checklist questlog. It was such a great game before ... I think it was the expansion after the Revan expansion that really tore the game apart. Roles actually mattered in group content. Not "everyone is a damage dealer now, you don't have to know how to play your role anymore." I know there's role-based content, but it used to be more prevalent. Everyone was participating in it. I understand they had to make changes, I guess. I'm still very sour about it. Now you can roll a character and get to max level in a week or less (unless they fixed that). You barely have a chance to feel invested in your character by the time you're a grandmaster Jedi / Sith / Soldier whatever. The rags-to-riches feeling was packed with struggles, time, great meaningful hardships that left you feeling like you've gone through something with your avatar. Now it's reduced to cliff notes. Ugh. /rant Maybe I'll give the game a go. It's been like 4 years since I logged in, when I finally gave up hope that they'd fix the over-dumbing they did. I know I am probably in a minority, I see lots of people praise the game now. Sucks to be in the niche corner of people who enjoyed the slower, paced, journey that had you actually engaging with the mechanics. The fact that people playing never even bother with the crafting system as they level is just sad. The core of the game it was built around is gone, replaced with something more transactional in nature.
since ive always been a LOTRO guy, ive always felt like SWTOR was very fast to level even at launch...today whenever i play SWTOR i always do every missions tho beause zipping through a whole planet in 20 min feels like a nonsense to me....thinking about it all mmos are now on super fast forward until endgame where they consider the only fun is at....the only true journey mmo is LOTRO these days
As an RS sub of yours I’m glad to see you branching out. I know you took some heat for talking about it on Twitter along with face cam stuff, but this video was quality! Keep it up man
Great video, glad you liked the game too. Take the time to go through all the options if you are worried about screen clutter. Hiding the gigantic nameplate over your head will make a huge difference right off the bat, but I'd also take out a lot of the extraneous combat "flytext" as well. Its rare that you need to see that Khem Val is healing for 2067 health every second in combat, you won't miss stuff like that when you disable it.
Oh man I am so glad that SWTOR is getting love. Also really glad to see you overall enjoyed your time in the game! Thanks for the video, it was entertaining to watch and have a great day :)
SWTOR is one of the few games I’ve stuck with and constantly went back to over the years. And I can’t help but always make new characters to replay the early levels because it’s just so much fun to discover all the different storylines! This game means a lot to me.
This took me back, man! All the things you questioned or were confused about, i was also confused about back in the day. Except some of the newer things. The map on screen like that used to not be a thing. Just minimap. Level sync didnt exist. the quick travels you had to manually interact with to unlock and if you missed one, youd have to hike it there again 😅 abilities you had to pay for. Its come a long way. And a new dev studio is working on it so theres being new life breathed into it. Thank you for the great video 🎉
Been playing on and off for 11 years. So much love for this game I'm glad to see someone else gets to experience this amazing story and world. There is actually plenty of player interaction, you just have to put in some effort to do so. I found that inviting players around you to groups, waving at them, or whisper/say chat to engage first will be enough to get one. Then you find another and another and next thing you know you have a team traveling the galaxy!
Hey mate, great video, it really took me back. My favourite story line is the Sith Warrior, and I tend to run it as an old school Juggernaut, the story for both light and dark is fun and engaging, so I recommend both. Small hit about trade skills, you can use them in Flashpoints to unlock short cuts and other hidden mechanisms, if there are the right lvl of course.
Great review , I have played most of the MMOs available and think this is the most underated and deserves more love . It is the most voice acted game ever released , the combat fluidity feels like World of Warcraft, which is rare to find. The different PVP objectives are unique, creative and fun. The dungeons/flashpoints have great stories and unique boss mechanics. Overall it feels like alot of effort has been put into the creation of SWTOR and I appreciate it.
Glad to see a positive video of a new player perspective in 2023! There is still so much story left to uncover! A nice note is that by subscribing just one time unlocks all the expansions forever, even when your subscription runs out! As for favorite Origin story, I'd have to say Imperial Agent, followed by Jedi Knight as a close second.
You can completely customize all the information the game gives you, damage numbers, name plates, number of quickbars and even move everything around in the settings and interface editor. The Jedi knight story is my personal favorite, playing as a Jedi that slowly is corrupted by the dark side is so satisfying and ties well with the expansions.
Wow what a review you’ve hit every nail on the head after returning to swtor 6 months ago since its launch it’s the perfect game/mmorpg that gives me the feelings of the good old days and as an adult with a job it fits perfectly and doesn’t require you to sell your soul/time to get all the goodies and progression like world of Warcraft I’m happy and impressed this game has marinated nicely i’m happy to have returned
I played swtor when it released, and stopped when the first expansion happened (Makeb), boy seeing this video made me think about how different it became.
I played it off and on throughout the years starting when it first came out. The game has changed so much over the years that it’s basically SWTOR 2 at this point, in a good way
In my opinion, while the jedi consular is the best Class to play as (Jedi Shadow specialization) The imperial agent has the best story line by far. And that is saying something especially Considering the Phenomenal story lines in that game
@17mindgate For me the best story is Sith Inquisitor, I played Imperial agent little bit, it didnt grab me, and i never try it gain. Its doesnt spark any interest. Some say its the best story, i cant comment of that because i didnt play the main story. Probably will never play. For me personally SWTOR is abot the force, not about happy trigger gunner. Far from reality also is that a gunner can kill Sith or a Jedi 1v1 "wow really ? did creators watch movies or read books ?." For me that is the only downfall. Making Star Wars and turn it to Counter-Strike. That is idiotic.
@hristokasabov5550 #1: I agree with you that the Sith Inquisitor storyline was very good. #2: Understandable. Everyone has their opinion on the matter, so go with what works for you. #3: In the writer's defense... it is canon (or at least it was prior to the Disney takeover) that regular bullets (a.k.a. "slugs"... I'm not kidding) can actually beat a lightsaber... it is just a largely blaster centric galaxy, so they are rarely seen outside of the "boondocks" planets. Furthermore, there are types of armor and melee weapons that can withstand lightsabers and force power. In addition, it has been proven on multiple occasions that "experience trumps everything" and skill and planning beats power on many occasions. Not attempting to offset your grievances, just attempting to make them somewhat ...bearable. #4: I have never played Counterstrike, so I can't speak to that one, but I know enough about the game to understand your point. #5: Sorry so wordy.
I played this game so much when it came out. I had a sith marauder elite warlord on pvp. But slowly everyone stopped playing. And I stopped myself. Lots of fond memories
I haver personally invested a little under 2000 hours into this game, i have been playing for the past 3ish years and love every moment of the story lines, i have completed every legacy ability, have done almost every single Flashpoints. Just the grind of this game is so fun cause its always a different experience with each character :)
As a player since 2014 I say welcome. My only regret for the game was I missed the title you get or playing at the very beginning. The fix for the terms is to not use Steam, if you delete and reinstall through swtor's website it get's rid of the issue. Also the first time you go to the fleet you get an intro to gathering trainers. When you get off the elevator the first time you run straight ahead to the mission terminal there and it has one called introduction to gathering.
I've been playing swtor for a little over 4 or 5 years now. I was mostly solo play then I decided to join a guild to access more group content and for someone to show me the ropes regarding certain group content. Also, guides, googling my questions brought up resources including content creator guides...ssoooo many. I've completed all origin stories and made it through all expansions and released content on one character, I'm looking forward to completing all the extra content on my other characters. Glad to hear you are enjoying the game!
Been playing off and on for 10+ years and I keep coming back when new content is released or need some good ole fashioned pew pew killing joys. The combat clutter is fixable with removing a bunch of the name tags and other stats that are generally useless. I generally just keep on screen what I’m doing and how the damage is affecting my character. Strongholds and operations are super fun, and operations is where I get most of my social contact. Loved your review of the game, felt fresh to see a completely new player having fun and getting to relive those memories myself. Noing on Star Forge Republic side if on at the same time hit me up. And have fun!!
One of my favorite MMO's of all time. Next to Elder Scrolls Online. Thank you for making a very relatively quick review as a SWTOR player. Playing this game reminds me of why im a Star Wars fan!
I agree with your overall assessment of the game. I started playing SWTOR at launch and over time, took breaks of varying lengths to focus upon other games. I keep coming back to this one! This time around, I finished all of the class story lines, and I must concur that the finest of them all is the Imperial Agent. My advice? Save that one for last. You won't regret it!
My tips: once you get control of your character, explore the menus, adjust your hotkeys and layout. Subscribe for AT LEAST 1 month. I've been a sub since launch. It's great to see another fair review oif the game. It's also good to know that you're going to continue playing. Welcome to the swtor community.
It warms my heart that you made this video, still love SWTOR after learning about it 10+ years ago! I think its a masterpiece, a work of art, not just a game. Thank you for showing and commenting your experience for us!
Started playing SWTOR again after several years and I'm loving the quality of life improvements they have added over the years. I mostly play on the Empire side of the Star Forge server and I joined a guild (The Courageous) that has a guild activity every day at 9PM CST. Honestly, if I hadn't found a guild that is so active I probably would have quit again.
You should do more RUclips on SWTOR. I’ve been playing it since it first came out. It was very refreshing to see you take on it! Maybe a play through vids.
I myself have been playing it for a couple weeks now, and it has drained much of my time and I'm quite enjoying things. I did the Sith Warrior campaign and did the quests all the way to 80 with the expansions etc. Some worse than others I can't see myself campaigning the whole thing again save for the origin stories, and I'm playing through the Jedi equivalent now. I will say I agree that is most definitely worth your time considering the lackluster state of other MMOs right now.
This is the first game I followed from its deep initial development through to beyond release. Was in high school through its development and graduated and played the hell out of it in college.
I joined at launch and played it every day for several years. It's a fun game with a lot of cinematic content that ads great immersion to all the storylines. I enjoyed it so much I had every character class for republic and empire and was in 2 guilds because it's worth it to play on both sides. Unfortunately I received a lifetime ban for things I never did and they deleted my account on top of it. They wanted me to pay the "new" rates and give them a copy of my drivers license. That wasn't going to happen so after 5 days by account wasn't retrievable and my days with the game were over. Even though there are many bugs in the game I highly recommend it, I had a ton of fun and made many lifelong friends in the game I still chat with.
I raided in SWTOR as a tank trooper in the republic. It was a really, really fun game. We had a guild that was active, and because we geared in raids gearing for PVP was easier. Yeah SWTOR was a really good time. Almost want to reinstall after watching this... :)
i came back to this game after 8 year break. i dont feel jankyness at all. there are far more janky mmo games that came out in 2022-2024. new player introduction is not as bad as you say it is. i introduced my friend to this game and the story is so captivating he just kept playing it no matter how difficult it is in the beginning. the story is amazing almost as good as kotor 2
I quit playing the game a few years ago, but I sank thousands of hours into SWTOR. I stopped playing mainly because it was feeling like more and more of a grind at the endgame level. I simply just didn't have the time anymore. Overall, I absolutely loved every minute of it!
I’ve been looking for an mmo to play since I’m fairly new to the genre in general and your thorough video made me take the leap on this game. I appreciate it because I like to get a general sense of what a game is about so I usually research games in advance and this video just popped up in my recommendations. Great video 10/10
me to i paid 150 canadian for the collectors edition when it came out i think the malgus statue is worth almost that just by itself, think ive seen it on ebay from 75- 200$ at times
I've been an on- and off again player since launch. Most issues you've spoken about, not having noticed crew skills in particular, are issues that have arisen now in the later days of the MMO as they increased the speed and ease of leveling. Used to be that getting to level 10 and being able to go on your faction fleet was a big deal. It was where you decided which of the two advanced classes you'd get and also you were incentivized to pick up crew skills. Then, unless I'm completely mistaken, you HAD to complete a flashpoint with a minimum of 1 extra player. Empty party slots could only be filled by companions or players. If you didn't do the flashpoint you were locked out from the first planet after the starting one, which meant that you were softlocked from progressing your character and story until you finished that first flashpoint. This was also during a time where companions could only fill their pre-programmed combat role. Devs didn't make your favorite companion a healer? Sorry mate, it's never going to heal you. Every individual companion also needed to be equipped with their own gear, or they'd be useless.
Ive been playing the game for an extremely long time. (2013 i think i started) i went from Heavy PVE and progression to only PVP (Shoutout Orchestrated Chaos) then back to PVE (The Mandalorians) and absolutely loved every bit of it. I played as a PT/Commando Bounty Hunter and the feeling of having a weapon for any and every situation felt amazing. I hunted down Jedi, Troopers and political figures for not only cash but for the rush. I felt immersed in the game and it was great. I log on once in a while to scratch that itch but alas, time isnt on my side much anymore like back in the day. Hopefully i can log on again and perhaps make a jedi to get that old feeling of nostalgia again. Hope you enjoyed playing. Cheers ✊🏿
I played at launch (including beta) and really enjoyed it for a year. I went back after not playing for years, saw what it had become, and uninstalled for forever. It was absolutely gutted from what I remember.
As someone who just started yesterday as a f2p player, im really enjoying it ive started out as a sith bounty hunter and its so good the story, combat im loving it!
The TOS agreement thing on every launch seems to be exclusive to playing on Steam and it's still happening today. The standalone client doesn't suffer from this issue. You could create a ticket, but it doesn't exactly have a reputation of actually fixing bugs... It's still a fun game today (I started playing last year for the first time) and I think the Inquisitor story is among the most fun ones, good pick! One thing I struggle with is the character progression. I remember at early levels I was one-shotting about everything. Of course mobs at the start are easy to get the player acquainted with combat, but I miss the feeling of getting stronger as I level up due to the level sync holding me back while enemies still get stronger. I think the level sync is great during leveling and story progression, but when you finish and are supposed to be a powerful warrior in your story, is it right that a random bandit or small animal on a starter planet still kills you with ease...?
I'm glad you had a good experience trying the game and continue to enjoy finishing up your character story and seeing how alt stories run some interesting parallels to them. Hopefully You'll find helpful guildmates .etc to explain some of the mechanics, I will point out that at launch the game actually had a slower intro experience with voiced NPC quests explaining things like class differences and quests to make you look at the crafting skills, but they got ripped out in an attempt to streamline the new player experience. While it may be faster now, I don't really favor "streamlining" by just removing or nerfing content. Inquisiotr was aso the class that got me in love with the game, I originally made a bounty hunter and intended the Inq just to be my alt for when friends were online to co-op with, but the story ended up sucking me in and the inq became my main instead, really enjoyed roleplaying the rags to riches emancipated slave to sith story it had going on.
SWTOR to me is a comfort game, and I always go back to play it from time to time for its uncontested storytelling. Bioware really knows how to tell a good story. It was my first MMO ever aside from Wizard101 and it was definitely a good start into the franchise despite some launch issues it had.
I used to play SWTOR years ago, personally my fave was the 'light side' of the Sith Warrior line, but I remember having a TON of fun on my Bounty Hunter too
So on the part about the T&C every time you log in. There seems to be a workaround. (although doesn't seem like it works everytime) If you get the stand alone launcher. Launch the game, Sign in. There is a file that will generate. Eula.settings. If you take that file from the stand along and move it into your steam version of the game. It will not ask you to accept them every time.
It never occurred to me that with the change to character creation brand new players would have no idea that Marauder used to be Sith Warrior exclusive because they just give you all four subclasses at once.
As a vet you played thousands of hours in this game was in the best guilds. One of the best reviews i seen for a new player honest fair and interesting from start to finish! If you ever need help or anther to run happy to help.
Great video. Thanks for the review of my favorite game. One reason why you may have liked SWTOR despite it being sci-fi is because Star Wars is more Space Fantasy rather than sci-fi. Force users are essentially Space Wizards, and there is very little science to be found anywhere.
I still love playing through stories I've already completed. I was surprised when in a re play through I recognized the voice of one of my favorite audio book narrators in multiple cut scenes.
If I would offer anything, it's a simple tip regarding the subscription. You only need to sub ONE time and it unlocks EVERYTHING, full lvl 80 unlock, all the expansions, you name it. After that one month you can feel free to unsubscribe and the only things that you miss out on are limitless access certain events (I'm sorry I can't remember all of them,) and you have a limit on the max amount of credits you can hold on your character at any given time, though you can get around this to a certain extent by banking them in your legacy storage in your character's ship. That said, whenever I have played, (I'm taking a break at the moment to focus in BG3 and FFVII Rebirth, as well as real life stuff preventing me from having much availability to do endgame Operations with my guild,) I have always been a subscriber, one, because I can afford to, two for the additional cartel coins you get each as a sub, and three because I don;t like being limited in my playtime options. As one thing I think remember about not subbing, is that you are limited to the number of operations you can join over the course of a week / month. Thanks for the great guide, and for showing new players what the game still has to offer. May the Force always serve you as you need it.
I'm a founding member. In shoet this game is good to atay and do the story. The story is quite fantastic, but after that it has nothing to keep you around. Anyone who is a fan of story driven games should play all 8 classes.
Played Swtor a lot a couple of years ago. I wish i could forget it all and start this game fresh. When I buy a new PC that can run Swtor, I plan to create a new account and start anew, separately from my old Legacy. To experience all these discoveries and achievements again.
As a first gen f2p SWTOR Player, Welcome! also, there is a lot of the older info to the game you probably will only get from commenters as the game over all has changed incredibly. Like the Intro cutscenes were all overhauled years ago to be more dynamic, even if the Dialogue never changed, Also, the Stories used to be the base class selection, with Classes like Jedi Guardian and Sentinel both being advanced classes of Jedi Knight.
This game was a dream MMO when it first came out. Me and a few friends had a wonderful experience with cool guild, doing the first few raids and pvping, etc. Every world was alive and full of players too. I can't remember our exact reasons for quitting, but it was such an enjoyable experience at the time. I've gone back a few times since and I think it's a great solo experience for the various stories but definitely lost its MMO luster.
As someone who was/is a content creator for this game. This has to be the most real new player experience video I’ve ever seen. It’s fair, and compelling. And I appreciate that man. Hope you’re still enjoying the game!

Don't forget the ERP
this game is ending lmao
Wait. There IS HOUSING? Time to build my Jedi "Meditation chambers"
As an old KOTOR fan, I basically played SWTOR as a single player game with expansions for each character class.
My favorite was the Imperial Agent.
By the way, did you encounter a bug during the Valkorion boss battle?
It's a bad mmo game with a lot of fairly cool writing, it's a bad kotor game because of all the mmo elements, but It's still the last echo of bioware magic we'll ever get again 😢

Yeah… i was in highschool when this came out 😬
Yeah I was in my mid thirties then but still on the lower end closer to 20, than 40, now I’m closer to 50! 😂 But it’s all good. I kinda am going for that I-don’t-age vampire thing. especially since I have a young mind and heart.

@@draagax I started playing video games in general when I was I think 10 years old but that was back on an Atari 5200. So think how I feel lol.
@@leonardceres9061 I remember the Atari... barely...on the tail end, but I remember it. It actually had some pretty good games.
Glad you like it. SWTOR is really a hidden gem in the MMO space. Been playing since beta test and launch so it's great to see new players get into it. For me the Sith Warrior class storyline is by far the best. Then the Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent stories are tied for second.
I just started today, sith warrior sorcerer. Going in brand new to the game.
Sith Warrior class story is good... but.. from my experience and from what I asked in game, the BEST class story is he Imperial Agent one...
i disagree, the sith warrior is the most typical sith story. i love it but what you see is what you get. the imperial agent is the suprise you dont see coming. it was truly incredible especially because it doesnt have something as cool as a force user to lean on for a main character.
I wouldn't say it's that hidden, it's known by a lot of people in the mmo and especially the star wars genre.
This game has always been under rated, I remember pre ordering this game when it came out, was 12 crazy it’s been this long honestly
I'm jealous because that means you have the elusive black yellow saber
@@MikasaAckermann831Fr that saber just looks too cold
i pre ordered the collectors edition with the malgus statue, i loved having the princess leia slave outfit from the special shops
Ah. SWTOR. So many good memories! This game is like OSRS to me. Even though I take breaks every now and then, something about it keeps me coming back for more. It also helps that I am a huge Star Wars nerd! :)
So for the whole "Crew Skills" debacle that you had.
@@Travybear1989 play project epoch
Still go back to it all the time. To get the most out of the expansions i recommend doing it as a sith warrior. However my favorite story is definitely the imperial agent. Sniper goes brrrr with burst damage too so super fun in pvp.
A light side Sith warrior for me, trying to change the empire from the inside. It's a great experience!
Glad to see you enjoyed the game as well
The Agent Story is sooo good
I started playing in Vanilla pre-f2p and LS SW is still my favorite Story.
Can you get banned for that? Steam is quite iffy when it comes to moving files
@@christiananders9945 Steam doesn’t do that, no.

Same. I think I will try it again.
Sad fact, Swtor is the only EU content still being developed. Disney thank god hasnt killed this yet.
My favorite storylines:
1. Jedi Knight (Light Side) - My main is a Concentration Sentinel (mirror of the Marauder) on Satele Shan
Players number aren't high anymore? On Steam alone, I see it listed as a 4K - 6K depending on the time that you're playing.

Revan was in 2014?
God I feel old now. By the time I've already finished 5/8 classes.
Never liked imp agent it’s cliche
Honestly this game is so underrated, people just didn't give it the chance that it deserved.
Not "everyone is a damage dealer now, you don't have to know how to play your role anymore."
I know there's role-based content, but it used to be more prevalent.
Ugh. /rant
Maybe I'll give the game a go.
Keep it up man
OG. But nah thanks man i really appreciate it.
Thanks for the video, it was entertaining to watch and have a great day :)
ngl its trippy seeing someone form opinions on the game as it is now, with all the nostalgia of playing the game for years, this is awesome
I played this when it first came out and it was soo good! I miss it sometimes
I'm so tempted to start a new character already but still on that grind to 80 atm, glad you enjoyed the video :)
@hristokasabov5550
#1: I agree with you that the Sith Inquisitor storyline was very good.
I have 7,863.2 hours played. Just reinstalled after taking a 9-month hiatus.
When you get off the elevator the first time you run straight ahead to the mission terminal there and it has one called introduction to gathering.
just gonna put it here, DO NOT BUY SUB THROUGH STEAM
Why? As im thinking about getting it
@@Charlie-lw5ulIt either takes ages to apply sub to your account, or doesn't apply it at all. Best to just get sub directly from swtor website
Yeah, why not?
Why
@@Charlie-lw5ul it is notorious for not working and in general janky as fuck, do it through their website instead
This dude talks about voice acting but hes skipping most of the dialogues
Been playing off and on for 10+ years and I keep coming back when new content is released or need some good ole fashioned pew pew killing joys. The combat clutter is fixable with removing a bunch of the name tags and other stats that are generally useless. I generally just keep on screen what I’m doing and how the damage is affecting my character. Strongholds and operations are super fun, and operations is where I get most of my social contact. Loved your review of the game, felt fresh to see a completely new player having fun and getting to relive those memories myself. Noing on Star Forge Republic side if on at the same time hit me up. And have fun!!
God, this made me so nostalgic. Might see if it runs on the Deck and finally go through the stories I have left to complete.
One of my favorite MMO's of all time. Next to Elder Scrolls Online. Thank you for making a very relatively quick review as a SWTOR player. Playing this game reminds me of why im a Star Wars fan!
This video is great. No cringey editing, no weird sponsors.
Thank you for this, i was just considering coming back to this game
My tips: once you get control of your character, explore the menus, adjust your hotkeys and layout. Subscribe for AT LEAST 1 month. Once sib runs out, you wont have as many restrictions, or may decide to continue the sub. Utilize your legacy storage by purchasing the cheapest stronghold when u pick up the mission from holo dude on fleet. Store your credits. Make a toon for each crafting/gathering skill as materials go in a shared "bag" for toons on the server. And ask questions in chat. Genchat can troll, but on a large vets love helping newbies.
As a WoW player since Vanilla.. im very tempted to try this as im always looking for that new game nostalgia feel!
As far as WoW clones go, SWTOR is the best
Returned to the game as well since 2016, and am on Shae Vizla since I live here in Asia and have made it my home server.
so glad to see people enjoying the game still. Loved this game growing up !!
Nice Man very honest and good review . Swtor vet here. Good to have you in the club .
Even though there are many bugs in the game I highly recommend it, I had a ton of fun and made many lifelong friends in the game I still chat with.
played this when it first came out with two of my friends. we had two bounty hunters and a sith it was hilarious amounts of fun.
@4:12 the style was stylistic and had a Star Wars feel to it
I quit playing the game a few years ago, but I sank thousands of hours into SWTOR. I stopped playing mainly because it was feeling like more and more of a grind at the endgame level. I simply just didn't have the time anymore. Overall, I absolutely loved every minute of it!
SWTOR is one of the only OG MMORPGs still standing in 2023❤️glad it’s getting some love!
I’ve been looking for an mmo to play since I’m fairly new to the genre in general and your thorough video made me take the leap on this game. I appreciate it because I like to get a general sense of what a game is about so I usually research games in advance and this video just popped up in my recommendations. Great video 10/10
Cannot believe it came out that long ago. I still have my Darth Malgus figure from the Collectors Edition sitting on my shelf
me to i paid 150 canadian for the collectors edition when it came out i think the malgus statue is worth almost that just by itself, think ive seen it on ebay from 75- 200$ at times
As someone who just started yesterday as a f2p player, im really enjoying it ive started out as a sith bounty hunter and its so good the story, combat im loving it!
just started playing. let me know if you want to play
I’ve been playing since first grade, and I’ve watched it evolve over the years and it always amazed me
SWTOR to me is a comfort game, and I always go back to play it from time to time for its uncontested storytelling. Bioware really knows how to tell a good story. It was my first MMO ever aside from Wizard101 and it was definitely a good start into the franchise despite some launch issues it had.
As an experienced player, we’re delighted to have you but always remember, “Drip is love, Drip is life”
I used to play SWTOR years ago, personally my fave was the 'light side' of the Sith Warrior line, but I remember having a TON of fun on my Bounty Hunter too
So on the part about the T&C every time you log in.
Lot's of great memories in this game. I played in 2011-2013, 2015-2016, 2020.
That's a good way to put it. Definitely a mixing of the sci and fantasy genre's to a certain extent in a lot of ways.
I still love playing through stories I've already completed. I was surprised when in a re play through I recognized the voice of one of my favorite audio book narrators in multiple cut scenes.
You should've seen the RP scene back in the day, people had old sith - english translators and making custom scenarios for guild events.
