Rob's wrestling definitely isn't overrated he stuffed Romero's and jacare's takedowns like nothing the fact that DDP took him down just shows how much we were underestimating his wrestling.

IMO Dricus’ unorthodox style is what gives him a massive advantage. I think it’s hard to time him. Especially in this fight against Whittaker, he was moving really jittery and awkwardly whilst keeping his guard up. Guys seriously unpredictable. And I think that works massively to his advantage as any traditional form of fighting goes out the window, which is why I think Rob looked seriously lost by the beginning of the second round. Even the real basic single leg takedown when they were in clinch I think just shows Dricus’ strength is in his fight IQ rather than his technical ability.
He’s smart strong cautiously aggressive and comes very well prepared his awkwardness paired with all those things makes it beneficial to him. Excited to see what he can do to izzy

I don't like what I saw with Dricus when he was on the backfoot though. When rob pressured him, he covered up and moved back in a straight line. Izzy can tee off on him if he does this
Some of us knew Dricus was awesome years ago. In one of his 2 losses, he was submitted. Instead of tapping out, he went limp instead. He seems willing to die in that cage.

There was no way Rob should’ve lost. I don’t want to make excuses for him but I truly believe this is one of those moments where they happened to meet on Rob’s worst night and Dricus’ best night. That or Rob underestimated him and came in under prepared. Rob better do his homework when Izzy and Dricus fight because I could easily see him fighting the loser of that fight next.

I bet on dricus, almost solely as a “fuck it, lets see what happens” kinda thing. I knew he COULD knock Whittaker out, but I thought it was gonna be a moment of luck. Dricus really impressed me. He basically ragdolled Whittaker with the grappling, and his punches are like nuclear bombs. I was watching the grappling and thinking “if Izzy gets taken down by this guy he’s fucked! If he gets in the clinch with this it’s over!”

Driccus has made me a ufc fan. I didn’t follow mma till I was over my buddy’s house one time and he had on the card when Driccus fought Tavares. I heard his name announced and was like I fw this dude just because it sounds cool to say. And when I watch Driccus throw some of the crazy shit I ever seen in my life for 3 rounds while looking like he just stumbled drunk out of a bar I was hooked. Haven’t missed a card with him on it since as I find him so entertaining. I’m proud to say he is my favorite fighter.

Dricus has proven his adaptability and his heart makes him NO JOKE! The man is tough as nails and incredibly unpredictable. His Judo knowledge definitely helped take Whittaker down. The most impressive thing though, is how strategic his camp is.

I think in terms of wrestling Rob's isn't as overated or DDP's is elite I think Rob just found himself in a harder situation than he thought and crumpled. Prime example was Conor's wrestling was a lot better against Khabib because he was expecting it than against Poirer because he wasn't

Dricus has a big back but his arms and legs aren’t that big. He’s kinda just the perfect size for 185, and he’s a freak athlete.

Dricus grappling is really good,there is a tournament here in South Africa called submission kings and he dominates I remember him beating 4 guys back to back with zero resting breaks
My head said Rob, my heart hoped that DDP would win. And what DDP said is that Rob is the more well rounded fighter, but izzy is the best at what he does. So it makes sense that he feels confident, because he might just be able to force the fight to an area that Izzy isn’t as strong. The one thing that stood out for me is that when he talked about Rob he said he doesn’t have holes in his game, I have to create mistakes.

MMA is supposed to be about different styles coming together to find out who is best and no one able to predict the outcome. With fight gyms being based in just a few countries and people cross training between them and getting training partners to mimic opponents, commentators have become couch experts. People fell in the trap that there is the few ideal way to strike and everything else is bad and stupid. Imagine a beauty contest where commentators say that a persons nose, ears or face don't fit the beauty standard. Yet that person wins and they continue saying these nasty comments. MMA media and commentators have lost their way. DDP has showed them that a little gym in Africa exposes this.

i think that surgery Du Plessis had did wonders for him. Due to that issue, maybe he had trouble reaching his full potential and also could not get the full benefits of a full fight camp.

for me, one thing made dricus the clear pick for me.
his nose got fixed and i know from experience how massive that is - to fight your entire carrer with a handicap and effectively cancel it out with pure heart and hard work meant that the surgery would result in dricus having extremely good cardio, cardio meant for 5+ rounds fights => in a 3 round fight that means that dricus could wrestle explosively, swing with such power as to decapitate robert and do big movements all for 3 rounds.
imagine any fighter with infinite stamina and what they could do - this is what dricus was in that fight.
Size and strength still matter and DDP has looked bigger n stronger than his UFC opponents. Plus he has an insane reach and hits guys when they think they’re out of range.

I always liked the ddp for some reason, came off as a likable guy. Eventhough I live in Australia I still rooted for him in this match although rob is one of my favs. Had rob, but wasn’t surprised at all when ddp did what he did. Rob can’t just play at range for 3 rounds like he does with others against a beast like ddp. And I knew his grappling was way better than robs. Just didn’t think it was gonna be this easy for him😊

Something about a fighter doing things fundamentaly wrong can really catch others off guard. DDP does everything technically wrong in the stand up, but thats how he catches most of his opponents. Gotta love it!

Lukey got a cold sore from watching that take get dusted. 0:44 of 1st round the elbow that landed in GNP by Dricus sounded like a machete to a coconut, it was GG after the beaut of a low leg kick at 1:10 of 1st rd (he landed tons and it made Rob break). Timing the straight right over Robs straight left kept stunning him (2:10 of 1st round).
DDP had Rob like "the guy is breaking everything on me in 5 mins and im on the backfoot not at my will". DDP always going to sneak damage in, him getting confidence/skill to even establish how the fight/story goes would be awesome.
There is another element. Dricus caught Rob while he was blitzing in. Izzy doesn’t have that blitzing style. He is comfortable waiting back to counter.
I don't know if Izzy can afford to hang back in the pocket. Dricus comes at you constantly, he like charging in Izzy has to fight his way out if this one bud. If he can

Rob is really good and nothing in his skillset is overrated it's just DDP is great grappler and he is really big and strong like look at his frame and muscle definition I think with his skill set and if he has a 3 round gas tank he can beat Izzy using his grappling and just sheer strength. He defo is a good fighter and is a interesting style matchup but I don't know too much about his chin because he has a KO in his career and it was at WW against Soldic who is a KO guy but still he can defo get cracked and Izzy is precise and hits hard. Overall I can't wait and I want DDP to win because of that none sense Izzy said in the cage.
