The way that he writes some of the most genius lyrics ever yet can't find his words in an interview is so cute to me
yet he is miles ahead in his mind, no wonder its hard to formulate
Arctic monkeys are the obvious choice for the next James bond theme imo
Did I just hear "Keep him out of it."? 🙊🤣Bond did pick his direction
@@sjboxoffice yeah I literally just heard it😂😂
@@sjboxoffice it’s bcs alex has always wanted to do a bond theme. it’s mentioned in other interviews he’s even said he wishes he could be a villain in bond but i’m assuming that was a joke lol
@@carris8432 That was probably sad before the last Bond 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣We all grow.
@@sjboxoffice yeh obvs that’s what i meant lol. it was an interview a whileee back
The way I genuinely have no idea what Alex is saying this whole interview😭 man can create lyrics that make my mind explode but can’t form a sentence under a minute
I can tell it's easier for Alex to express himself with music rather than words. I still think he's a genius and as time goes by, he will get the recognition he deserves.
Yeah because AM are so underrated and under valued aren't they 🤔
Depends what you mean by 'music'. I'd say he finds word much easier to express himself with, when referring to written words, not spoken words.
@@peterrfowler16 their past 2 albums have gone over most peoples heads, personally, their progression is amazing. Each album gets better than the last. More thought out musical ideas rather than their angsty earlier years
@@lunarsurfaceproductions Their evolution has been impressive and they're very diligent but it's nothing remotely original whatsoever. I can enjoy this to some level or I could just listen to Bowie or Walker who were pioneers of this sound. It may also appear that Alex Turner has outgrown the band .
@@peterrfowler16 what is original? What do you listen to? Everything pulls from something in some way or another you cannot create something without knowing and using techniques that have been known to work. I completely disagree with you saying it’s unoriginal but I can say that they are wearing their influences on their sleeves on some of these songs more than others.
1:32
"How did this start?"
Alex: "With the um... Introduction... Classic way to start"
MAN I'M ROLLING ON THE FLOOR 😂😂😂😂😂
Turner is the closest thing to bowie we have now. He is a genius. The way their work has evolved is incredible sonically and also the visuals the whole thing is real art.
I agree, big fan of Bowie but I felt Bowie if he was alive would be quite proud of this album
I bet Alex was heavily influenced by Fredy Mercury
is this a joke? copying and ripping off David bowie makes him a genius, I think it makes him a fraud, tame impala are miles ahead of these boring clowns musically, this is music for old and boring people.
@@danadams8649 my guy, if you don't like their music, why are you waisting your time watching this and commenting?
@@willowrosenberg9967 I really liked arctic monkeys mate have all their vinyls apart from the last two albums and seen them live a few times and wanted to see if the new stuff would be better live but it just isn't, ill stick to shrooms and acid and listen to tame impala instead.
I love how Alex just puts on the sunglasses from one moment to another without any reason, just because he felt like doing it.
48:58 the camera going back to Alex wearing sunglasses out of nowhere killed me
He changed personalities in less than 1 min
It sums up Alex the quiet guy (2006-2011) to Elvis Alex (2011-2018) perfectly.
I told my daughter when she was 10 that I would take her to an Arctic Monkeys Concert as soon as she was old enough.. Shes 16 this year and I'm going with her to Hillsborough Park! She cant wait. She Loves Arctic Monkeys! Defo Generationally fluid!
I tried so hard to get tickets for hillsborough park 😢 hope you and your daughter have the best time!!! Saw them at Sheffield arena 2019 and they were incredible
see you there!
i’m going as well as a 16 yr old haha
Taking my 18yr old :-)
Been listening to AM since my son was 5 years old. He is 20 now and we are going together next year. His first time, my fourth 😊
This interviewer is top tier. Asking all the right questions. Their TBHC interview a few years ago was also amazing.
I think it’s really interesting that Alex is kinda sarcastic/cheeky, but in a way that is respectful.
They’ve done an interview with him for every album,m for the last few, and you can tell Alex respects him and actually enjoys the interviews, whereas others it’s clear when he’s not interested
7 albums in and I'm still in awe.
This album should be in a movie

@@mermaidhotel8993 if you took acid on a regular basis you'd realise how lame and dogs hit boring this album is, theres a million bands producing better music than this crusty music
we can all agree that alex turner doesn't age he remains the same every year it's fantastic
i believe matt is one of the greatest drummer of our century, i mean the things he adds to the songs are just spectacular
Kudos to the interviewer. Great balance of humour, interest, silence, guidance, intelligence. Not used to seeing Matt and Alex in long form promoting, but he did really well to bring them both out and deliver great insight.
17 years and Alex still cannot talk lol. I love him
His talking is akin to Cilian Murphy. We introverts are like that🔥.
I love this album. I've been a fan for 16 years. They can drastically change their sound, but still manage to stay true to themselves and artistically push boundaries. Alex's struggle with celebrity and the band's massive fame is interesting. I think a lot of fans just listen to AM or early albums for the rock n roll factor & don't bother listening and deciphering his lyricism on the less mainstream albums.
well, I listen both the old rock n roll songs as well as the new ones and I appreciate them both, I love that the band is not trying to stay mainstream and are totally down to experiment, evolve and try new styles of music
Yes! I absolutely love their rock and roll but I love how they don’t feel the need to be mainstream and just do their own thing. It does make me sad that people don’t appreciate the beautiful lyricism in their newer albums and songs and just immediately dismiss them as “boring” or “elevator music” only because they don’t have more guitar or drums.
honestly the reason i am so into them is because you can see the growth and evolution. creating the last two albums for sure helps to juxtapose with the later ones and bring out their true strengths as artists@@skate_fast_eat_trash9430
Alex has such a relaxing voice
I wish there was one interview with the whole band
What I heard is that it’s mostly Alex writing and they came along later in the process. So it makes sense to just have Alex and Matt. I do miss Nick and Mr Jamie cooks voices though.
@@lunarsurfaceproductions not true 😂 Jamie and nick just don’t do interviews. Jamie more than Nick. But Alex has the ideas and then the rest get involved
@@Trevlad11 the other two don't seem to like doing the press stuff which is fair enough. Does my head in when people make out like Alex is holding the band back with their new direction etc, he's the one who does solo albums, side projects and clearly has a lot of ideas. If the other three really felt hamstrung by Alex they'd be exploring new avenues on their own but they're not, I think they're all just quite settled and happy to follow Alex's lead musically.
Sorry for the rant aimed at no-one in particular haha.

Kennedy once again showing himself to be the master of broadcasting. Asks everything a fan would want to know.
So proud of how well they have done for themselves, such an inventive band
“Is there anything else we should hear about Jetskis on the moat?”
“Ay you heard about these Jetpacks?”
Alex Turner is so influenced by film music in his writing, it's surprising it's not really mentioned.
used to be mentioned a lot during tbhc
the interviewer is amazing, he is prepared perfectly and is handling the difficult interview situation with the guys really well.
I have to say Alex really isn't coming off great in this one. The questions are interesting and well informed but Alex just doesn't want to give anything up. don't do a track by track if you don't want to talk about the lyrics.
@@Ninjamonkeydrummer the zane Lowe interview is loads better. It seems way more natural than this and Alex is far more open. These track by track things just seem really rigid and the rapport isn’t the same.
@@Ninjamonkeydrummer Agreed, he comes off a bit defensive or just unwilling to engage
Agree - I felt for him, it was painful enough to watch
Yes I totally agreee. John Kennedy is always so well prepared and his enthusiasm is infectious. He creates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere which is really conducive to great interview. I love his show on Radio X.
he is so handsome
Saw them for the 5th time last night in London and now I’m back down the RUclips rabbit hole trying to get my post-gig fix! Adore them.
Alex makes it seem like he’s been asked a question in another language and is trying to give an answer in English.
pls everytime i look at alex i js wanna hug him so bad i cant do this anymore😭
Interesting how there are a couple moments where Matt also learns things from the album, the inspiration, and the ideas behind it.
Al didn't change with his interview skills😂❤
It takes a true genius make something so complex sound so simple.
THIS
I’ve watched most of their recent interviews and for me this one is the best. The exploration of the music is much deeper than any interview before it. Excellent by John Kennedy.
love the new record cant wait to watch :)
I’m so excited ❤
great to see the lads chat openly and relaxed which is a credit to John. Thankyou Radio X
Can't stop listening to this album. Amazing.
Love the interview , interesting album for sure , a insight into another world ..❤
Excited to see them in Brazil!!!
It’s an amazing album
A very interesting interview! Thank you 🙏
Always loved these track by tracks, as ever John has a great way of drawing out the best from Alex and allowing him the space to finish his thought processes and not interrupt. Love the Car.
Love Alex Turner, but I have to watch his interviews on 1.25x
The idea of someone perfectly yanking the cloth from under a Subbuteo game, mid-match, and then making a cloak from it, is both hilarious and beautiful
when matt said "before we assembled" I Felt that
WOO Track by Track is back
Deep joy and gratitude at having the gift of these otherworldly and beloved artists.
Como se nota que Perfect sense es de sus favoritas… la forma en que la cuenta ❤
Amazing band
Love it! 🎶💕
Love the Dj , Hes very eloquent , great interview ..
I think I’m actually going to like this album more than TBHC. Mirror ball was really underwhelming when I first heard. I thought it was going to have more guitar, but I listened to it again and again and again and then I found myself having it on repeat the whole day and singing along to it. Then Body Paint came out and there was the guitar I was looking for plus I really like the song as a whole. I’m excited for this album. I think it’s out already in the UK, but I’m in the States so I’ll have to wait a little bit longer. Can’t wait to listen to it on vinyl as well
Yeah I agree. Albums that are instant often get boring pretty quickly. Albums that are a bit more layered and interesting are normally albums I go back to again and again. Hopefully this is will be one of those
@@taz454 it already is one of those I think. Half their albums need repeat listens then you'll love it
Mirrorball was a definite grower. First listen was a hard meh but i kept going back to it for some reason and its layers kept unfolding.
Sculptures of Anything Goes makes me feel like I'm in a dystopian future and I love it
u should stop having specations and just roll with it
53:16 he must rly love that movie bc it’s a line in the jewellers hands too 🤩🤩

Alex is so funny without even trying to be
Terrific video
1:32 Alex being Alex.
ACKNOWLEDGE MATT HELDERS
It’s 3:33 in the morning and I’m watching this and listening to the album when the songs come up . All I have to say….
Masterpiece Alex and the Band, this is absolutely genius. They hit another frequency in music that’s unexplainable in words.
3 in the morning? Is this an Arctic monkeys reference
@@jonathanmitchell3545 haha wow I didn’t even realize it, probably cuzz I was high 🙇🏽♂️🤭
he looks so sober yet so high
was thinking opiates yeah lol
Honestly he looks the most sober he's looked in years
He actually looks happy. Aging suits him. And maybe Louise.
he is aging like fine wine
I really like the album, it has something magical and mysterious. But for me the best one is AM. It just has such a strong energy. I literally love most of the songs, which is something it rarely happens for me.
This is the same man in the cornerstone music video
i
Genius
I guess I have to take a few more of proper listens to really appreciate the album. It hasn't settled in that it's by the Monkeys. It actually almost feels like listening to Alex covering Bowie's songs (Moonage daydream for example) with TLSP which doesn't have to be a bad thing. Al's vocal range blows my mind now than ever!
"Big ideas" and "Sculpture of anything goes" are so beautiful!
Heat of the morning too!
You really should listen to Bowie
His vocals sound like Bowie but the music itself doesnt specifically give me that, these comparisons are so shallow to me.
Yeah feels a lot like TLSP, keep kinda waiting for Miles to chime in on the vocals.
I think its terrible for copying bowie, man should find his own sound instead of being lazy and copying.
Aslanlar yine yapmış albümü
Alex’s style just gives me a young Leonard Cohen vibe.
He's a Cohen fan
I don't know if it's also a direct reference to this Tread Softly Stranger movie when they talk about Hello You, but in The Jeweller's Hands (Humbug's final track) Alex says this exact sentence "Tread softly, stranger, move over towards the danger that you seek" , and maybe this is the 'other song' Alex says he mentioned it before. Alex doesn't spontaneously talk abt his lyric writing process v extensively but then again we get to know specific references and reasonings behind said references that makes us rly curious if there's in fact a personal meaning to bits we don't quite understand in his more recent songs (TBHC - The Car, particularly, I'd say)
This was a really nice interview- I think better then the TBHC one too.
Must there be a reason for everything? If the album is written from feeling then words won't explain. It's all in the music.
Agreed. But a lot of people feel the need to do this with music or they cant wrap their heads around it.
Best album to date
love the new album
I want a double album next
First half Acoustic second half Fast Heavy electric.
i'm not a big fan of the arctic monkeys last three albums, but i've got nothing but love & respect for how they've moved from working class sheffield and now making music that's apt for where they're at now.
Sounds like a film sound track

53:13 He was thinking about that movie on the making of Jeweller's Hands
I don’t know why but a lot of the songs from the new album make me sad, lol. I’m not sure if it was intentional from the band or not, but there’s something about the lyrics and overall sound of the album that make me emotional.
Don't get emotional that ain't like you
Especially the second half of the album... i get quite emotional too
Yep
big ideas had me crying for no reason when i first listened to it

It’s definitely gonna take a few listens to properly appreciate it
Yeah it usually does for me aswell haha its more adjusting to the change in style because im so used to what has come before
🇧🇷👏🏽
at 53:15 "tread softly stranger", may that have any correlation with the lyrics from The Jeweller's Hands aswell?
honestly i dont like their change in not making rock music but as a fan i still respect them doing that and i am going to deal with it like an actual fan would
I mean its rock music, its just at a different tempo 😂
Bye then 👋
that's totally fine but it's also not fair to pigeonhole artists into just being a "rock band"
