The vintage and retro F1 cars and tracks with added mod skins and AI are outstanding, especially in VR. I will never get tired of replicating a season from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s with real historic weather plus it’s so simple to set up a custom championship. This alone sells the game for me and I’m so appreciative that this even exists and with VR. It’s at a high standard already for this type of content and anything else is a bonus.

@@viktorianas I have AC too with pure, F1 mods, etc. and love the physics but with AMS2 historical F1 comes in game or as DLCs and it’s just so simple to setup an historical championship with the historical versions of the tracks. 1970’s Spa and 1971 Nurburgring are incredible in VR and look way better in the headset than AC. Of course, physics is a matter of opinion and each to their own except for the fanboys who know for a fact that their sim is the best.

Hey Ben. Another banger of a video man. I agree with so much of this. There are certain car/track scenarios where AMS2 hits and frankly is hard to beat. But many other race scenarios feel frustratingly incomplete. I hope that before development wraps up for this title they can smooth out the AI. In my opinion it’s the last major hurdle for Reiza to overcome. The rest of the shortcomings I can live with.

Well put, this is indeed a perceived problem with AMS2 and has been made marginally worse by the change from frequent small updates to larger more substantial ones coming less often.
In Early access there were weekly updates, after main release this switched to monthly, once the physics were more settled the timeline extended again to quarterly.
That doesn't mean an update is coming soon or is currently delayed, it just means things are on the way an will arrive when they're fit for purpose. Not before (Are you listening Turn 10?)...
This slowdown in the pace of updates could be taken as a sign of abandonment in the future. It HAS been by some given that Reiza have been hired in some capacity to assist Ian Bells new venture GTR Revival.. One individual in particular even spammed the forums that AMS2 was already abandoned right after this news leaked about a year ago! Nobody could convince them otherwise... Sigh.....
Not in the LEAST! That aint happening anytime soon! AMS2 is Reizas baby, GTR R is just a consulting "side job" so why would they abandon their main source of income for scraps from someone else's table???
Since that leak that drove one detractor mad with rage and suspicion we've had Adrenaline pack, Formula Hi-Tech, Le Mans and Endurance Pt1, it wouldn't be pt1 if the game was abandoned would it?
IDK if you make a living from YT or just an additional income as a "Side job" but It doesn't make much sense for you to make content if there's nothing new to add to previous videos.
Take it from yet another beta tester though. More content IS coming, the new tyre model IS being added to other cars, We ARE testing them as they arrive in the beta version, even we don't know WHEN it's coming nor do we know what EXACTLY is coming, rest assured though the devs are working hard on it, Us beta testers are doing what we do and reporting any problems so the devs can avoid a BF2024 or Forza Motorsport fiasco.
Like my compatriots I've been trusted by the devs to not leak details and We won't betray that trust with specifics, or even hints, rest assured though, it IS coming...
Better to be delayed and be done RIGHT than rushed out the door just to piss off the limited playerbase that AMS2 has right now..
Just the same as there's not much point in you making vids of the game right now, there's absolutely NO benefit in us testers leaking details which could well be changed as we'd create a false expectation for the masses and be betraying the trust Reiza have given us...

No sim is perfect but for some reason, very likely the strange & egocentric ramblings of RUclipsrs like Broadbent & Gamer Muscle, AMS2 gets more flak than any other. I have them all apart from iRacing & each has its flaws & qualities; in my opinion AMS2 at least tries to fix reported problems while, for example, RF2 lives off an obscure reputation around tyre model as the de facto 'realistic' sim yet it still lags, crashes & flounders as much as it did many years ago. Raceroom is a solid sim that has improved steadily yet, like AMS2, gets little praise. ACC is good but limited so in a different category, as is LMU, which I bought but just can't get into, likely because it reeks of RF2 with slow loading & unreliable performance but mostly because the feel is way too light & twitchy, which ironically is not like RF2 at all. Lastly the F1 games....not good for me, these seem a few levels off realistic compared to the previously mentioned sims but they do have good career modes so appeal to a slightly different audience. Not sure about this content, with the breadth of cars & tracks available AMS2 is going to have a few naff combinations but for the size of the task taken on I think Reiza is doing a fantastic job, one puts the likes of Studio 397 to shame, so perhaps a little less quibbling might be in order?

Hey buddy - nice post. I'm not too sure why AMS 2 falls under the microscope more than others, as you're quite right that all sims come with their flaws and frailties. I don't think my video gives the game or the devs flak as such though - it's just the genuine reason why I don't play it more, and therefore don't make content from it at the moment, whereas previously I have. I get asked that question a fair bit in comments, and people will have decided to sub to the channel expecting more AMS 2 here then there is just now. So I thought it only reasonable to explain 👍

I just got into AMS 2 after playing AC, RF2, and RaceRoom. (Im new to Sim racing, just got my R5 in November. ) Finally getting AMS 2 a inclusive bundle is like a huge breath of fresh air from the aforementioned games. To get ANYTHING good out of AC you have to bloat it with mods.... lots of mods. As a 31 year old with barely enough time to sit and race, i dont wanna build the game (AC) when its been out for 10 years and still relies on folks hammering out mods to get anything out of the game. Just Kunos SimuLAZYoni per usual. Nobody has time for RF2 because it chugs and loads atrociously. Out of the box AMS 2 provides and gives. Perfect VR, great graphics, huge amount of content, and from what ive learned now, fixed physics. It feels good enough to not be bothered going from AC or RF2. Most of the hate on AMS 2 physics comes from a year or two ago prior to the tyre model update. AMS 2 just works and works well. Just wish more people would see it.

Good video and I agree with your views. Whilst I still drive AMS2 and overall do enjoy it, it has its moments that put me off. Firstly, the physics, whilst improving, sometimes feel odd/slidey compared to others I play (RR, LMU). Secondly, as you mentioned: the AI. Notably for multi-class racing. I did an LMDH/GT3 g2 race at Imola recently. Was back of the LMDH pack (11th out of 12) but when we caught up to the back of the GT3s, I got up to 2nd in one lap because the other LMDH cars just couldn’t get past the slower GT3 cars. That said, I still do enjoy driving in it.

That's why I insist that official F1 series remains the best single player simRACING game on the market. The racing in that game simply works, and you have a rich and well-structured career mode to give you proper reason to do another race, and that's enough on the market saturated with jack-of-all-trades sims that try to pack as many classes in them as possible, making balancing AI an impossible task, with one exception of ACC, which on the other hand neglected AI past the initial batch of cars and tracks, ending up with identical inconsistency as other sims.

If I put in my numbers to the text file and make it read only it looks perfect. Had the same issue with PC2 so I think it’s a madness engine thing.

I don't agree. Not every sim needs to have an iRacing like MP experience. All it needs really is a more stable dedicated server with the capacity for bigger grids. You can already find good MP racing on JustRace, but the leagues are held back by the dedicated server ( still, the RPM league has a full grid for their F1 race this week when I last checked, and some of the other ones do very well ). You can also generally find good online racing in some of the communities like Metz and on RCO. I was in a GT4 race on RCO a few weeks ago in the UK evening time and it was a grid of 14 of us at Montreal - epic door banging fun tbh. All these services/communities are being held back by the dedicated server and Reiza is well aware of this and working on it. There are twice weekly MP tests going on.

They've sold a ton of copies of AMS2 as it is and seem quite happy with the way they are working. For me, AMS2 is a great sim to be a bit more casual on, wether its against AI, or on RCO, its good enough for me when I don't want to grind out pace on iRacing or LFM until I'm competitive. There’s room for competitive MP that isn’t esports sweat like iRacing or LMU. I’d reckon that’s the want of the majority but gets ignored by vocal minorities. AMS2 is an awesome game, but depending on the class, weather conditions (especially changing conditions), the AI can be disastrous and gamebreaking. It must very difficult for the devs, to program all these different classes, which is understandable, but it needs a lot of continued work which they are doing. Example, I had a race at classic Hockenheim with F1 classic from 1986, and it was terrible; AI far too slow on the straights, when the weather changes during the race from dry to wet, the AI drives in wet conditions as if they’re on slicks in dry conditions, whereas it is virtually impossible to keep the car on the track; I went from first to last in 1 lap🙈 Again great game, beautiful graphics, but very inconsistent AI, and other issues let it down. I now play AMS2 for a quick race, when I have little time, and find the sim perfect for this; if the AI is bad in a certain class, I’ll just quickly change to another one!
