  • Our hearts are broken as we’ve had to say goodbye to Gretchen after 13 years of absolute joy. In 2006, at 4 months, Gretchen was found as a stray in Indianapolis. Taken in by a Terre Haute rescue, we found her online on PetFinder. Out of more than 100 applications, our family (and Gretchen, I’d like to think) won the lottery. We made the drive and Gretchen became a resident of Central IL.
Gretchen was a perfect family dog, always cheerful, always funny. Her most annoying (but endearing) habit was trying to herd us whenever more than two of us were in the same room. (DNA testing revealed she was 50% Old English Sheepdog.)
I miss her desperately. I am so grateful my kids were able to grow up with such a trustworthy, loyal and gentle doggy.
Gretch, your hips don’t hurt anymore so run free, and round yourself up a whole herd of squirrels. ❤️💔🙏🏼

I wound up here after noticing your post on Juan Browne's "bancolirio" channel video on the Kobe Bryant Tragedy. I wholeheartedly agree with your attitude and approach to non-recognition of all-things-troll. My grandmother was an M.D., who never made more than $10K annually; she had a policy of visiting each patient at their home, every second year.
Her most regularly prescribed advice for those with children, was "get a dog, children will always confide in their pets, especially in "times of trouble or stress". I am fairly certain that the benefits flow in both directions.

AMStationEngineer, hello friend. It's funny, but earlier today I made a comment on a video saying that I think all children should grow up with a beloved pet. I totally agree with your grandma. I was a pediatrician (until I became ill) and while it's unusual these days, I still made housecalls.

Aww, Peter, thank you so much. This is a tough loss for sure. I keep hearing her at the door, her toenails clicking, the tags on her collar jangling but then I realize it’s all in my head. Dog lovers understand how I feel right now. We all go through the pain of loss. I appreciate your kindness.
