Chris Stuckmann reviews Star Wars: The Last Jedi, starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio Del Toro. Directed by Rian Johnson.
From my experiences there are three things in the world that you can't mention without getting into a heated debate: religion, politics, and the last jedi.
Ok, I'm a year late but this still holds up today lol. The fact that topics like Star Wars or Doctor Who can cause just as much fighting as politics or religion is ridiculous
I think the Great Pumpkin should be on that list too!
Thankyou Jesus. Yeeeeeeee
Except normal people couldn’t care less about the Last Jedi, it’s really only small but very vocal groups on the internet who love it or despise it
Frank Merker well a “normal” person can still have a strong opinion about it. It might just be abnormal to engage in intense arguments about it online - and even then I wouldn’t call those groups “small”.
Chris: I think this film will please every Star Wars fan.
JJ Jameson: (that laugh from Spiderman 2)
In the beginning I felt the same thing as Chris. I watched it with my friends and again with my family and they all loved it, especially the ones who hated TFA lol
@Anson Hartzler How about Carry Poppins? Or Snoke? How is any of that considered 'fantastic'?
@Anson Hartzler
Which led to zero questions answered about who he was and where he came from, which most would say is very important. Not to mention how he rose to power. Its lazy story telling.
@Anson Hartzler
No, good story telling naturally involves explanation. You don't introduce an obviously important character only to kill them off a few scenes later. Even a five year old knows that's lazy.
@Anson Hartzler If they wanted to kill Snoke like that, which I know they did, they could have at least explained who he was, how he met Luke and Kylo Ren, and how he rose to power

@sudha bhatt If you think they’re bad, you haven’t even seen the Spider-Man fandom. Dear god, it’s a hell hole
"I think this film will please every Star Wars fan."
Oh, you sweet summer child... :)
that guy is woke and way out of touch this movie destroyed Star Wars forever!
@@KingTairun There are some people who really liked it, and I wouldn't want to take that away from them. But Chris probably wrote that without talking to a lot of people, because the fanbase is pretty divided.
@@BrianHartman At its heart it is not Star Wars. I can go on forever describing the flaws and how characters that don't act like themselves.
I think people who say they really like it are saying that because of the strong political messages that they agree with. I think Chris saw the main stream media response and followed it.
Imagine if you saw his recommendation, trusted it and went to see it.
Pure betrayal. I can never trust his "reviews"
@@KingTairun I don't know him personally, but Stuckmann doesn't seem like a political guy. And I've seen him go against the popular opinion on movies before, so I don't think he just follows blindly. If he says he liked it, I trust that he liked it. I disagree with his opinion on the film, but I kind of see why he has it.
The people who liked TLJ seem to me to have wanted Star Wars to do something *different*. New themes and new ideas. TLJ certainly did that. And to be fair, Stuckmann *did* mention things he didn't like, like Canto Bight.
As a filmmaker himself, I think Stuckmann really liked the visual style that Johnson brought. And there were times when Johnson got into the lore, when Rey was talking with Luke.
I think Stuckmann is just way more tolerant of Canto Bight, Holdo, and the pointless McGuffins than I am. :)
@@BrianHartman I dare to speculate that he follow the main stream opinions and he follows the rule "don't say negative stuff" as PR move. Also if he is film maker isn't that conflict of interest? he would never say something bad about his colleges. I as Star Wars fan can not be tolerant of what they did they ruined the franchise. Johnson botched the side characters too
Actually to me, on that other planet, that sequence with Finn and Rose felt like just a way to show what EA's headquarters looks like.

@@Davidzz137 No we aren't lol. You can like what you want but right now, you are going against actual facts.
If someone liked The Last Jedi, good for them, if someone didn't like the Last Jedi. Good for them, if someone has a different option to you, you don't need to be dick about and get all pissy. That's the great thing about film, someone has a completely different view than someone else, if they do be a fucking adult and let them explain and if you still don't agree then don't, accept that they like something you don't and move on. It doesn't mean either of you have a terrible taste in media it just means you like something different.
Triple C Productions Well said man. This comment section is a complete mess. Just filled with assholes incoherently yelling at each other. What ever happened to having a civil conversation on a movie?
Can people learn to respectfully disagree please?
Triple C Productions sure but people liking the objective flaws will prompt them to repeat them

@@stupididiot6993 Yeah, you are right 👍👍👍
I enjoyed it but I can see why people disliked it
Because we where born before 1980's and know what a good Star Wars movie is all about. If you enjoyed the movie I am glad that you could find joy in something so bad.
The actors did their jobs and most of us have no issue with the actors work.
However the story itself was a mess.
What they did to Luke after 40 years was very disrespectful and spit in the face of dedicated Star Wars fans.
The ratings speak for themselves, people over all disliked this movie as it drove their core fans far far away from any further movies they are going to shovel out and claim it is Star Wars.
Peadar O'Rourke I disliked it but I can see why some people enjoy it.
Me too. At least some 12 year old didn't put a "STOP HATING ON STAR WARS" video.
Definitely.
I wanted to see a Star Wars film but instead I got a bunch of political propaganda with a lousy story about not enough fuel on the side. I’m not gonna bash people who like it, but I don’t see how you can’t be annoyed with their political agenda being shoved down your throat constantly, and the crappy story telling on the side.
i got mixed feeling and opinion for this movie. So many WTF, Why, and ......WTF again
Bayofthe91st yup it was disappointing, they should of left the skywalker saga as it was with the 6 films
They had comedy for 5 year old and the story was ruined.
Wow, feel a bit weird after coming out of the film. Must admit I'm fairly disappointed.
Some very cool visuals and a few cool scenes but on the whole didn't really like the story and where it ended. Choices were made with certain characters that I think were definitely the wrong way to go.
This was not the film I hoped it would be...
mrawesome669 on the same train with you. My gf thought I was just speechless since I did not say anything after the movie but I was just in a weird funk. Don’t know how to feel about this film!
Alejandro Coronel It didn't feel like a star wars film was what I was thinking
mrawesome669 course it’s not Star Wars “fans” are salty and can’t get a story
I honestly loved it. It's becoming it's own thing and the series is moving away from George Lucas's vision. That's not a bad thing
Its simple: Rian Johnson destroyed JJ Abram's SW story (episode VII)
How u give this an a- and infinity war a b +
CrayDesigns Infinity War had no issues in my opinion. It’s my current favorite movie of all time!!!
I guess some people don't know how opinion works.
Even if u have valid criticisms of this film, u can always disagree with him.
But assuming that he is being disingenuous is not only ridiculous, but also very self-defeating in itself.
Opinions
@@riskyumbrella4874 .... are assholes.
Hey, I actually like this movie more than Infinity War, so it makes logical sense from where I’m standing
That George Lucas impression tho!
Lucas is a depressed person to listen...
Stuckman, this review needs to be redone, as George Lucas!
LOL
FlezzDurjis That would make the video 2 hours longer
I know! He did it with no effort at all! 😂😂
MAJOR SPOILERS:
Here's what I liked about this movie:
1) Any scene with Luke. Mark Hamill gave an amazing performance and made some good points for why the Jedi's hubris was their undoing. I like my heroes flawed, and in this Luke's flawed humanity shone like a beacon.
2) Kylo Ren's newfound attitude. In the Force Awakens the attempts to make him conflicted just made him look like a whiny brat, but in this one his inner conflict actually felt like it had weight. It seemed like he was putting more thought into his decisions than the "WAAAHHHH! ME NO LIKE YOUUUU!" of the last movie. As soon as he crushed his "ridiculous helmet" I knew that he would be improving.
3) Speaking of Kylo Ren, I really enjoyed the scenes where he and Rey communicated with the force. It established a bond between the protagonist and antagonist, which allowed them both to develop and exposed the previously mentioned character flaws in Luke. This connection also brought out the best in both of them, as Rey showed the hope that Luke had lost and Kylo seemed to be redeemable, leading to...
4) The Snoke death that everyone else seems to hate. While I am annoyed that they never gave us any backstory on him, how much could you really do with "the emperor but tall and even more disfigured"? Now we have a far more developed and interesting character on the throne instead. Also, I like how Kylo and Rey's connection fell apart afterwards, with neither wanting it to happen, but they were driven apart by how much Kylo was willing to sacrifice to "let the past die".
5) Poe's well-intentioned failures. In the original Star Wars trilogy, Luke's hotheadedness lost him a hand. In this movie, Poe's hotheadedness lost the Resistance the bombers that they would have needed later, and also nearly lost them the entire battle when his infiltration plan failed. Usually in movies that's the kind of plan that would have succeeded with only a hint of failure at the end, so it was somewhat refreshing to see the opposite happen. Depending on how you look at it, this could tie in to Luke's point about hubris.
6) Snoke calling out Kylo on his failure in the Force Awakens. It was a small moment, but it was good to see that even the movie's characters know how unlikely it was for Rey to have won that fight.
7) The reveal of Rey's parents. There are more people in the galaxy than just Skywalkers and Kenobis, and I found it really annoying how likely it seemed that she would just be another one of those. This was a great expectation to subvert; it's the exact opposite of "I am your father".
8) Yoda's ghost. Another short moment, but it was well done and helped Luke see a brighter side to the seemingly cynical idea of letting go of the past that he had latched on to.
9) Luke's force illusion scene at the end, and the final "FU" he gave to now Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. It looked like it was going to have massive plot holes, but the reveal of what was happening explained them away and gave us what I thought was a great climax between these two.
EDIT: 10) Luke basically became Obi-Wan (a friend of mine pointed this out to me). He was called into action by the original Leia message and had a very similar final line before his death. It was a good way to bring his story full circle.
Things I didn't like:
1) Rose was an idiot. From her first scene where it took her way too long to figure out what Finn was doing, to her letting the First Order blast into the Resistance base just to save one person, it seems that her dead sister must have been the competent one. At least she's consistently dumb, though.
2) The lack of backstory for Snoke and the First Order. In my opinion this was more a problem with the Force Awakens, but this movie continues that disappointing part of its legacy.
3) General Hux and his overacting. He was a minor character, but I thought he was far too over-the-top.
4) Poe not facing consequences for his mutiny. This can be explained away given that they were in a desperate situation and needed all the fighters they could get, but it gives the impression that he never learned his lesson.
5) How did Finn and Rose get to the casino? Wouldn't a missing transport draw attention from both sides of the battle? If time is of the essence, then how much time was wasted on this detour? Couldn't Maz have just given them the name of the person they need to find so they could contact him without all this? This entire sequence raised too many questions.
Things I'm conflicted on:
1) Luke's death; while I understand that his character arc was about him letting go and allowing the next generation to carry the torch, I would have liked to save this for the next movie just so I could see more of him (like I said, I thought he was really great here). I do think that seeing that kid recreating his final scene with toys was a pretty good way to show that his legend has spread hope across the galaxy.
2) Leia's sudden use of the force. Other people seem to really hate this, but given that she's a Skywalker and that her brother could use the force to guide his torpedo less than a week after learning what the force is, this doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. On the other hand, she doesn't really do much after this and there are already a lot of fake outs in this movie. Speaking of them...
3) the death fake outs/deus-ex-machinas. These tend to annoy me, but they do not make a movie bad on their own. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, for example, had several death fake outs and deus-ex-machinas and those movies are excellent.
4) Captain Phasma's brief return. I don't have much to say here, but neither did the movie.
Basically, I think the movie was meant to be disappointing: it played with our expectations in ways that I thought were really interesting and emotional, although I think I see why people feel betrayed by those twists and there are some obvious problems. Some of the other things that people dislike I didn't mind as much. For me at least, the good far outweighed the bad.
Jack Schwartz I
Exactly My opinion
From what I have seen, it feels more like an mix of episode 5 and 6.
And do they really plan on kylo to be the final villain in part IX??
Very finely crafted review. None of that "I HATE IT" or that "I LOVE IT" bullcrap! It was a fine film, not the best but certainly not the worst!
General Button yet continuing the mediocre name of the trilogy
Snoke can sense people from other planets but can’t sense a fucking lightsaber moving next to him...
To be fair, the guy was gloating and not paying attention when that happened.
Still shit though.. Now Snoke comes off as some back alley force using fuck tard, who is alive based purely on luck.
I got so fucking pissed off when he died. I was like, “is that it??! The SUPREME LEADER SNOKE is fucking dead??!” Pathetic way to kill of his character and way too early! He needed more character building
Charisma yeah, almost like Boba Fett... in the OT trilogy...
Leon Is Except Boba never had any particular build up.. People picked him up from the background, he looked cool.. Phasma was rammed down our throats, then they tried to do a Boba Fett.. You can’t DO a Boba Fett.. You can’t control it!

I don't like the comedy in these new Star Wars movies. The old ones had natural bantering between characters whereas these new ones tell jokes without any point
WinterSplinterM.II Jokes are Disney's main selling ticket. They just need better writers with comedic timing.
WinterSplinterM.II I hated the comedy so much in this movie
WinterSplinterM.II it’s a joss whedon wannabe style of writing. You play a scene strait, then wait a few seconds for comedic tension, then point out how silly movies are. Practically 90% of the jokes right there. It’s predictable and unfunny.
The marvel effect
The old ones were well written, these last 2 are shit.
I wanna see Chris re review this movie
iPermanently lmao fucking same
@Matt Fisher so the movie is fine
SunTai or he fanboyed too hard
I think Chris would have the same reactions. Most people that really like Star Wars, like honestly don't make up shit in their minds 50x before they watch the movie fans, they generally like TLJ. Those that already have plotted out what the movie should be, those are the ones that hate it. That and Russian bots.
Sure there are pacing issues (hello Kantobyte scene), and there are some things that could have been different. But overall this was a good movie. Far better than the prequels, and on par with ROTJ that had it's own flaws. And I mean seriously all the movies have some flaws to some degree.
I don't mind the fresh approach of Rian Johnson. I hope that the series ends solid in less than a month (and largely ignoring all the spoiler and pre-screening talk which is typically non-substance).
@@LTParis i love the part where they kept leia alive where she could have been sent off, and where rose stops finn from sacrificing himself to save the rebels and fulfill a gratifying character arc for some dumb bullshit reason and the only reason they survive being that luke decided to show up as a ghost.
Watch Mark Hammils interviews on the movie where he gives his opinion on what should have happened and how much better it would have been.
Problems I had with the film:
-Characters get out of trouble thanks to luck a few too many times.
-At times it felt like we didn't get enough screen time for some of our heroes.
-The force does some really weird things that were kinda hard to believe for me.
Carlos Character get out of situations due to luck? My dude have you even seen the original movies? The entire rebellion is based off of luck. Luke making a one on a million shot with little former training in a xwing? So many examples.

Go watch ANY Red Letter Media Half in the Bag review and tell me that Chris Stuckmann isn't a shit reviewer with questionable taste. He makes reviewing movies look like something any idiot can do if they just write down what they said to their friends in the parking lot after the movie.
That’s why I love the comments section
RLM is far superior, but that doesn't make Chris Stuckmann bad, is just a different approach. Also, most of the complaints come from the fact that he liked TFA, not the review itself, and for those people, watching RLM won't solve this problem, since they liked it, too.
PeixeKing funny how someone in Ign's Rogue One review video tried to use Chris' review to support his opinion that that was a shitty movie (even though Chris gave it A B+ which is his standard score for pretty good movies) and actually managed to be the top comment through most upvotes. I find it hilarious how idiotic and pathetic Star Wars fanboys (yep it's mostly them doing the hate) can get.
The Force Awakens: OMG, I have so many questions.
The Last Jedi: *FUCK YOUR QUESTIONS! They were all jokes*
Solitude They really weren't...
honestly, most of those questions didnt really need an answer! i rather prefer Reys parents being nobody of interest than Luke and Whoever. Or Snoke being....Plagueis or Palpatine reborn... -.- thats not needed. that would undermine the emperors death in EP6 and just be fanservice. sometimes new characters are just new charaters and not "somebody related to somebody we know!" things dont always need to be connected! -.-
Really? tell me, does these ring any bell?
Who were reys parents? FUCKING NOBODIES
Whats Lukes reaction to light saber? FUCK THAT
Is Snoke badass? FUCK NO
Do we get real lightsaber battles? FUCK NO
You don't know if Kylo was telling the truth, from my point of view he was trying to convert Rey to his side by telling lies and getting her angry and emotional.
Luke didn't want anything to do with the resistance, first order or anything else. He just wanted to stay in solitude and isolation from everything, him throwing away the lightsaber told Rey that he was done being a Jedi and helping the others.
Yes, Snoke was badass for a short time and what happened has a bigger meaning to it then you think, if you look back and see what was happening and how Kylo gained from it during the rest of the film and probably during Episode IX.
Is that why you went to the cinema to watch the movie just for the lightsaber battles? Not for the story, characters and their development, possible romance and relationships. It's not all about the action and lightsaber effects.
Luke's reaction to the lightsaber: was actually pretty cool, and in keeping with his "I'm done here" vibe.
Rey's parents were nobodies: Hm. Okay... So she's an insta-Force-badass because... reasons. *sigh*
Snoke: like his hologram; hugely overhyped and utterly without substance.
Lightsaber battles: well, I saw some. Maybe you went to the toilet halfway through.
But the poor use of Snoke, and Phasma (AGAIN), and flushing Luke down the toilet like a used rag at the end of the film...? Urgh.

Poe: Ok, I'll hold.
General Hux: You are speaking to General Hux. What's your message?
Poe: Just wanted to inform you of the night I had with your mother.
I felt like I was watching a scene from spaceballs, it pretty much made Hux a joke.
And don't get me started on that bullshit with Leia. Force powers or not, she is the sole survivor of a blast, but not only that, they show her floating in space, then flying back to the ship like she's Mary Poppins or something.
Honestly, I thought Rogue One was better than this movie. I wanted to love it, but the humour just made me cringe.
Satan's Lot Yeah, Hux. Someone who should be of Thrawn's caliber. What a fucking joke.
Sir, you have spoken my mind to the last detail
The jokes were so often, I've felt like I was watching a Marvel movie
The cringe was strong in that movie
Satan's Lot
The problem with Leia's scene is the bad CGI. But she is a Force user, always been since the OT and is nice to have her develop her powers and something as cool as that. People have to stop underestimating Force users, who can be so powerful they can literally rip galaxies apart. Flying in space for a little like Leia did is nothing when you compared to the crazy feats of SW characters.
Why is no one talking about the fact that r2 d2 is barely in it, same with Chewbacca
V J Why is no one talking about the fact that the massive fleet was chasing one fucking ship inatead of just sending bombers to destroy it or boarding parties or flank them with another fleet?
Yeah, a lot of disappointed. So many unanswered things that needs to be explained.
The Rose and Fin excursion was a no-no for me.
Because this isn't the original trilogy that's why
Because they were huge things in 4 movies already, not every Star Wars movie has to be recollections of the past
"definitely better than rogue one" - oh, i actually prefer rogue one to awakens...
Mia Cassinelli you are not the only one, rogue one is the better film when compared to TFA which was a clear and precise unimaginative cookie cutter movie not channelling George Lucas but ripping off the OT of its greatest hits. Abrams is overrated.
Rogue One sucks. It's all style, no substance.
I actually put Rogue One second to Empire, I thought it was great.
Kylo Ren and Luke were the Best things in this movie.
Also the millenium Falcon chase is incredible.
SPOILER ALERT:
The whole Jedi temple segment makes no sense at all. I mean what exactly happened to the Knights of Ren? Was Ben Solo even powerful enough to slaughter Luke's Jedi students? Was Ben Solo powerful enough to convince his students to join the Dark Side? Why did Luke tried to kill Ben Solo simply because he was afraid of the dark side? Has Luke forgotten what he did to his father, Darth Vader who was the most powerful Sith in the galaxy?
RookieN08 If vader was so powerful then Why did he crawl before palpatine?
Darkness1984 I assume it's because of the way The Emperor manipulated him.
RookieN08 what y u spoiled it just joking I didn't read it I like how u warned us
RookieN08 w
Unanswered questions doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. Luke didnt forget what happened to Vader, but you clearly forgot how much pain and misery Vader caused before Luke saved him. Plus, Luke said himself it was a moment of pure instinct that passed like a shadow
Mark Hamill is always Great as Luke Skywalker
Thats because he IS Luke
I was left really disappointing by this movie

People trashing Chris for liking TFA. I don't love TFA either. But if you don't like his opinions or if you can't respect his opinions, just, you know, don't watch him.
Saatyaki Panigrahi definitely agree
Well, I think there is such a thing as a wrong opinion, but I don't think there is such a thing as a bad opinion in this context
Chris does have a tendency to fall into nostalgia. I've just come back from The Last Jedi and it's honestly a terrible film. The plot goes nowhere, it felt like it should have been a subplot to a much larger plot. The ending with Luke was beyond stupid. There was random bits of misplaced humour. The whole story ends up being pointless. It's a shame.
"A bunch of people and Porgs" I already cringe... but they are amazing you guuuuys all those commercials before the movie was released said so. BUY THEM!
exactly! included just for merchandise sales.
If you are implying that Star Wars have never been about the merchadise, then you are lying to yourself. Star Wars have ALWAYS been about the toys since the OT. Ewoks anyone?
MforZorro | Movesets Quit whining
Mike Spearwood
Ep 1 hade so much merchandise, almost as much like when pokemon was at its prime.
Skyfire that wasn't what he was implying. The point was that they, like the ewoks, were only their to sell toys.

I bloody hate not being able to trust reviews. I'm currently getting opinions off of 4chan and taking what they say with more weight than anything stuckmann said.

Holy shit...RT isn't in charge of the rating...
Easily one of the worst comment sections on RUclips that I’ve ever seen.
What is your definition of "worst comment section"? A comment section filled with stupid comments or filled with negative comments? Or a bit of both.
Yeaaaeh. ok. I feel that reviews are being inexplicably kind to this movie - maybe they don't want their 'back stage' pass revoked, I don't know. But I've had a long read through multiple forums and pages and the majority of fans are quite disappointed by TLJ.
James Seaford yup its really disappointing they should have left the skywalker saga as it was and focused on something else
Dissapointing, for some people yes. For me it wasnt as dissapointing because I disnt get into the hype. I enjoyed it. Dont let people who got over hyped stop you from watching the movie, because this movie still has great moments and characters. I still highly recomened it.
James Seaford i agree I left underwhelmed
That’s because fanboys aren’t good judges of films.
Everyone bitches about the new star wars films whenever they come out
"Force Awakens was just a rehash of A New Hope"
"Rogue One was boring and dull"
Now this one is "disappointing with bad writing and terrible jokes"
Star Wars fans will always find something to complain about, they're never satisfied with anything new.
I had an odd experience with this film. I found the first half dumbfoundingly messy, aimless and without any care. With everything the Force Awakens set up, the film felt self important, trying to be SO outwardly subversive that it felt like it was too good to be a Star Wars movie. But the first half wasn't subversive in a good way, it just felt careless. At times, especially during the Finn/Rose subplot, I thought I was watching a George Lucas prequel - it was like something from an entirely different film.
But the second half changed. Gone was the mess, the aimlessness, the poorly plotted monotony that crippled the first half. What was left was something strong and confident - something TRULY STAR WARS. The second half of this movie is probably my favorite Star Wars film ever made, but the second half isn't the movie - it's just a part of it. The second half was full of surprises, perfectly subversive and different in ways the first half yearned to be.
I don't know, I have a lot of feelings about this movie.
ChristopherDoes i totally agree with you i didn’t like the first half that much
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but the whole movie was just awful. The phantom menace is better than this mess
Kinda like a reverse Full Metal Jacket... The first half is the best movie ever, the second half a very mediocre warflick.
It was awesome! There I said it for u! Everyone will over think it. I had a good time and I felt for the first time in a long time that there was value in my movie ticket.
I agree ... I had trouble getting into the movie ... then after that I was .. some how.
Yes the Fin/Rose sub plot sucked, it did feel like GL created that scene.
They should have killed the whole subplot .. had Fin and Poe go to the ship ... and have a major battle with Captain Phasma. I like that the mission actually failed. But using the ship in light speed as a weapon ... best scene EVER
I died at that George Lucas impression 😂😂😂😂
Finally someone who likes The Last Jedi, I really don’t understand the hate
If you enjoy the film on a purely personal level that is completely fine and no one can take that away from you. But if you believe this film is just as good of quality a film as "The Empire Strikes Back", then you have bad information about the film.
I don't hate "The Last Jedi". It is of quantifiable poor quality. The character arcs are built around themes which contradict their own purpose in the narrative, the plot is built on gaps and contradictions in its own world building, comedy and drama are constantly at odds for the dominant tone, and characters have been entirely deconstructed for the purpose of pushing for a subversive take on the saga.
Please give me your take on the film and which points you appreciate because I would love to discuss the film with you. But I can guarantee you, for every point you can bring up on the film being of quantifiable good quality there is a reference which will contradict it.
There are plenty of opinion videos explaining why people were disappointed with or otherwise hated the film.
If you need a solid evidence based video check out MauLer's critique of the film. It's a long video but he is very thorough and explains everything in detail.
@@EvanMonroe I know but I was replying to Zach.
I know. But MauLer's video isn't opinion based.
Omg dude, I couldn't disagree more... Especially on that Finn/Rose part, you were no where near as harsh on it as you should

Jackson Boyd yeah I’d definitely watch attack of the clones and phantom menace over this. The last Jedi has honestly destroyed Star Wars...
Jackson Boyd the prequels absolutely shit on this
^^^ at least the prequels gave us something new and gave a buildup of the Empire and Vader. In my eyes 7 and 8 don't exist and 9 won't once it comes out.
BecauseImBatman TM .....holy shit ... i retract my comment ... thank you sir
What the frog is happening to critics! This movie is so bad is painful . There is no character development, the humor is stupid, it has terrible performances, cringy moments. Luke has nothing to do with the Luke we last saw and knew. Even Hamill didn't like how they developed the character. I couldn't even relate the main characters with the past movie , the force awakens. Parts of the plot are useless and stupid. The tone is dragged and all over the place. At some moments i didn't know if was watching harry potter, Jurassic park or a star wars film I´m sorry but Stuckman is just being a fanboy in this one. This is becoming like an alternate reality.

Both Chris and Jeremy are such huge Star Wars fans that they'll overlook most flaws just because it's Star Wars.
It happened with TFO and now it's happening with TLJ.
Chris even admitted that he liked the prequels when they came out. In about a year he'll admit it wasn't that good, but for now he'll fanboy the shit out of everything Star Wars.

I disagree with your overall positive feelings about this film, but I respect the way you came to those conclusions and how you laid it all out. Putting yourself out there as you do in every review is something I admire, whether we agree or disagree.
I honestly respect your opinion dude. Why wouldn't I. But I felt that this movie was bad? The whole side plot was useless. some fights were underwhelming like the captain phasma fight. most of the jokes are bad. the whole rey mystery thing feels useless as we never get an answer. It doesn't subvert our expectations in a good way though, the whole snoke fight was kinda decent. The whole thing felt jumbled. the whole feminism thing is stupid and rose saving Finn was dumb, you screwed everyone. laura dern's character was dumb, leia's fake death made me laugh, but some fights are cool, the acting is ok. I would give this film a D

Critics care about story and character and strong themes. Which this has.
So it gets great revieqs.
gLeeksFF Yes it doesn't but it can be when the two review groups are now suddenly are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Over 90% of critic love it when almost 50% hate it. Look at all the audience scores on rotten tomatoes and metacritic, dozens of articles, and many RUclips reviews like Joe in their comments sections. If anything else the hate is far more intense than ep 7.
Aldrich Leblanc thank you
Aldrich Leblanc if Chris was paid by Disney, he would have called Rogue One the best movie in the universe. Did he do that? Nope. Or your paying "thing" is selective and applies only to movies where you don't agree with reviewer? Lol, seems so. Did you even look at the comments? There's literally a comment here that GAINED like hundreds of likes that says - "You're a sellout". Reviewers are paid all the time? Yes, but only by companies they represent. There is literally absolutely no freaking evidence that reviewers get paid by movie companies to give good reviews. You know why? Because it is extremely risky move and reviewer can easily refuse and spread this information, was there anything like that? Nope. So you're telling me, that out of all the critics, non of them spread anything? I guess so, I guess Disney mind controls them lol. What are your speculations based off? Them not sharing your opinion? How Immature. Can critics be biased? Absolutely. Can studios apply pressure points to keep them positive? Yes. But do they directly pay them? No, too risky.
Luluko pretty much
I felt the editing was clunky and disjointed, but it had enough good moments for me to feel positive about it. I'm still debating it in my head. I agree with you about the Rose Finn story. The setting was good, but the delivery was off. I also believe we could have had more from Luke as a master Jedi force user.
I felt the movie was well edited and well paced.
jessicaRD69 Luke is broken and preparing to die. Yeah I wanted badass Luke too. But they went with philosophy and soul torment.
This entire movie is joke at the expense of the characters.

hands down my favorite part of the movie: KYLO REN!!! i've always thought the "good vs evil" conflict in star wars was pretty two-dimensional and straight-forward and it had always been so easy to tell who were the villains from the good guys. that's what's new that kylo ren brings to this film!! he gives it depth, his inner conflicts are SO HUMAN, and rian johnson DID JUSTICE TO HIS CHARACTER!!! i adore this movie!! thank you for your wonderful review too chris!
Anakin, he had depth in both the clone wars and the prequels he wanted to prive himself to his master and jedi, he wanted to save the ones he loved and he just fell to deep into the latter and he was manipulated into becoming evil, instead we get little kid evil, doesnt want to be evil, continues being evil

If I want to see a movie, I always come here and watch the review. TLJ was no different. Sadly this is the first and only time we don't agree on a movie! I'm a little surprised to be honest.
Although the movie looks amazing and the actors are truly doing a great job, my problem was with the actual story line. I just saw it so obviously I need to think about some things, but my main problem were 1) Leia storyline 2) Snoke role 3) Finn+Rose storyline 4) Pacing of the first half of the movie 5) The Physics and 6) Evolution of some Characters. There are some things I don't mind and others I forgive but these here definately parts that took away from the emotion and excitement that was complete gone by the end. Oh I should just stop here before I begin ranting.
I am really looking forward to the spoiler rewiew and hope that Chris sees the movie again before that. It was definately NOT a great movie, it was worse than TFA (which btw was an amazing project) and R1 which had problems and left many people conflicted, but at least had a good script, action and consequense. I should just stop here, the disapointment is real folks! So sad :(
Klio Christodoulaki Definitely agreed. I do hope that chris really scrutinizes the movie on his second viewing - especially after his comments on Rogue 1. I felt this was better than 7 but it still didnt have the same feeling as the OT or even Rogue 1 to me. The feeling of 8 was off - looked and sounded fantastic but it just didnt feel "star wars".

Wow, there are SOOOO many people in the comments here triggered by him loving Force Awakens and "disliking" Rogue One (which is funny cause his overall review and score for Rogue One was in fact positive, he just didn't love it) and not focusing on the actual review. Of course.
Oh and by the way: You are welcome to have a different opinion than him. Heck, I disagree with him on Force Awakens AND Rogue One (I like Force Awakens less than Stuckmann does and Rogue One more than he does, though overall I like the two equally). However, I'm not gonna slam his opinion and say that his doesn't matter. I'm gonna respect him and listen to what he has to say about The Last Jedi.

MasterOctagon I was referring to his initial review of Rogue One. He was disappointed in it, don't get me wrong, but he did have plenty of positives in the review and his overall score was positive. A [B] Grade is a positive grade regardless of what one's standards is for academic letter grades.

i just leave this here... :D
The film reinforces Rey as being a Mary Sue, with literally one scene they ruined the character. That was the worst thing that they did in this film.
Which one?
Killing Luke like that was the worst thing in this movie
If she was a Mary Sue, why was she no match for Snoke?
The scene of her getting tossed around and then being saved by Kylo was countered by her saving Kylo later during the fight.
Also, she just picks Anakin's saber up and starts competently swinging it around with no training and is somehow able to use the Force proficiently in the same manner.
TheNuisanceBird Luke had very little training when he started using the Force.
Movie was disappointing. I don't mind a bit of humour here and there, but the forced Marvel jokes that came every 20 seconds really took away the seriousness from certain moments and made the characters more cartoon-ish. The way Luke tossed away his lightsaber just for a cheap laugh or the way he brushed his shoulder after emerging unscathed from the shooting made me groan. Killed the mood of the scene. I was expecting the second film of the trilogy to be more dark and mature in contrast to the light-hearted first one. It's been a joke so far.
Dave Reyez agree. Although I did laugh when he tossed the saber as I didn't expect it.
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
And this is the constant theme surrounding all this negativity - it wasn't what people expected. And that's why I fucking love it. A story should not be pandering to what fans think should happen to the characters. So Luke had human issues which led him to make bad choices. Yeah, he's human. And a Skywalker. And they fuck up royally. They didn't expect Leia to have a crazy force power. But again... she's a Skywalker. The list can go on and on. But I see very little about the poignant, emotion moments, the great work by Adam Driver making Kylo Ren arguably one of the best characters in all of Star Wars history and a few other things which I'm quite frankly bored of repeating. People need to gain a little bit of perspective.
I was mostly disapointed :(
I can’t believe you guys are hating on someone because they enjoyed a movie
You miss the point. Stockman is a reviewer. It is his job to honestly critique movies. For him to say that "there were a lot of good jokes" is more hilarious than the entire TLJ movie.

Which is true, I don’t know much of what happen in the extended universe, I just saw every SW movie in their original unaltered version. But I get where these guys comes from, it’s like me and video games which I see being destroyed each year more and more by casual morons that don’t know what a good game is like and just care about explosions and special effects. So I guess I’ll just listen to the purists when they say that TLJ is the worst SW movie ever made. I have a shitty taste in movies I guess.
c0mpu73rguy I think there is no winning when the franchice is THAT big. You can make a masterpiece for all we know but because it would be 7th, 9th or 12th movie in the series there is just too much to compare it to. I personally think that all those fan theories and focus on every single pixel in a trailer is JUST damaging. The director is saving a couple of surprises, dares to present something new or unexpected and the people are whining how it did not met their made up plot expectations. And if they guessed it right - well then, it's predictable etc. So it's a lose lose situation. I guess the Sequel trilogy will have to go through fire baptism and will only get a bit of a break in a decade or so
Chris... I have never disagreed with you about a movie until now.... and I am genuinely confused by your take....
I will wait to hear your full explanation in the spoiler review but your opinion of this movie flies in the face of what you've said about other movies countless times. I think this is a real case of Phantom Menace denial.
Gregory Molina he watched it again and still loved it
Gregory Molina I agree.
OH, just because you don't agree with him, he is in denial? Get a bloody grip. He loved it. why? cause it's HIS opinion, not YOURS.
Johnny1248 you can like a bad movie, but it's still a bad movie.
It's not really.
He praises the light saber battles in the movie as being incredible. Dude, there LITERALLY isn't a single scene in the whole entire movie where a light saber clashes with another light saber... Slashing a Trooper with a saber isn't a light saber battle. Then claims that 30 minutes of the movie was not needed boring side plot and still gives it an A-
He is just a Rian Johnson fanboy
@Darth Vader I stand corrected but it wasn't a battle though which is more of what I meant. You were right in the semantics of my wording but I meant there was no light saber on light saber battle unless you consider Luke blocking one attack a battle.
Agreed, this movie was boring. I can recall Chris saying that revenge of the sith light saber battle between Anakin and Obi Wan was long and unrealistic. This movies fails in exploring some of the key fascinating things in this series. The fucking force, the light and dark side of the force, fucking light saber battles. Instead, all we got were nostalgic moments of old star wars characters doing what exactly? Luke, the most powerful Jedi is reduced to something pathetic. Omg, what a fucking disgrace. You had Mace Windu, Obi wan, Fucking Yoda, all these powerful Jedi have been disgraced by Luke drinking green alien titty milk. Who thought this was a good idea?
Shadow Prince
Agreed...this movie is a joke
The lightsaber fight in the throne room is the best fight scene in any star wars movie in my opinion. You can try to say it's not a lightsaber fight, but that's kinds stupid seeing as lightsabers are involved and they still clash with other items that essentially perfume the same as savers but do more interesting things.
Lol snokes potential was so wasted and it would’ve been better and more effective if Princess Leia stayed dead. There wasn’t even a decent lightsaber fight scene 😔
hard as phuk the scene with Snoke was a good lightsaber scene I thought.
the fight against snoke's guardsmen was truly stunning
Two light sabers didn't even collide in this movie. Says it all.
Why does everyone complain about Kylo offing Snoke? Snoke got barely any build up (he had like three scenes in TFA and very little supplementary material) and I thought everyone hated he was nothing more than a Sidious rip off. I for one love this twist, though admittedly it did have some Iron Man 3 vibes which is not a good thing.
[Spoiler talk]
The scene with Snoke being killed off and that whole battle was fucking awesome. However, I do wish this was the final bate and lasted longer. Snoke could've been more.
my take away from this review was that Chris likes Rian Johnson
I ship it
He doesn’t like RJ, he loves RJ!!!
Joe B he loves Rian The Rock Johnson
He's allowed to. I do too
I do too, he directed probably the best Breaking Bad episode, Ozymandias
In all honestly Chris? As a die hard fan of STAR WARS, I hate where the story leads to. Im with Mark, i hate what they did to hans death, i hate what they did to Lukes character, all the first trilogy was wasted.. Star wars 7 and 8 doesnt make sense.. For me they could had made it better.. But the last two, they did not pay respect with character.. Yes the film in technical aspects is great, but the way they did with the characters, i hate it, i really hate it.. If your a great die hard fan, you know what i mean.. This film is not a "star wars" film, its just another film,..
keef andre Well said.
This movie was so much better than The Rise of Skywalker
It’s still bad, but at least it’s watchable
@@macewindu41651/2 bad. Whenever Luke, Rey and Kylo are on screen its great. Everything else is bad in comparison. Its alright 6/10
@@thatplaystationgamer3262 Rose was the worst part of this movie. Nothing wrong with the actor just the character
And I think that Luke’s personality was ruined in this movie imo
@@macewindu4165 I don't feel like it was the character of Rose that ruined the movie, but instead what she did with Finn (Canto Bight). I personally loved Luke and his personality as it reminded me of Yoda from Empire Strikes Back, but I completely understand not liking him. TLJ is a real mixed bag, I strongly believe when its good, its really good but when its bad, its really bad. I wish it was more consistent. I don't hate it. I don't love it. I'm inbetween
@@thatplaystationgamer3262 I think it’s a 5/10 as a Star Wars movie
At least we can both agree TROS was terrible
Man, I have never seen such mixed reviews on anything before. One one end people claim that this movie was an absolute masterpiece and arguably the best wars movie ever. Then you have those that find this movie to be an atrocity and the final nail in the coffin for the franchise.
Of course opinions about most anything are on a spectrum, people that are somewhere in the middle, tilting to the more positive or negative direction. As for me, I believe that this was a solid movie, albeit with few yet significant flaws. Regardless I still had fun and enjoyed the overall experience, and I think this mostly because I didn't come into the movie expecting something spectacular or masterful.
Basically I think that a big part of the problem is that people expected far too much from this movie hence the widespread disappointment.
the people that are saying they liked it are probably 16 yrs old. The older crowd you saw the others movies hates it. trust me it horrible.
Expectations really ruined it for most people! I didn't expect anything "good old star wars"-after TFA, didn't turn any countdown clock to the TLJ neither. After TFA I said to myself: "okay it will be something different. " and you know, I really enjoyed the movie.
Force projection....... yeah.........
Someone doesn't read the EU.
Blue ghosts, television screen chokes, levitation. Yeah......... (my thoughts when I first watched Empire Strikes Back)
I am really disappointed by last Jedi I think it totally disrespects the franchise and also takes all jj Abrams tfa setups and disregards them with no reason or substance
Abrams Force Awakens have no reason or substance, have no context whatsoever or world building, the whole movie was a rehash of A New Hope, nothing more, nothing less.
Keyser94 either way I feel let down by this film especially the character of Luke skywalker
JJA, sucks....
We're all allowed to have different opinions, but i still feel like there's a mob mentality with the hate for this movie
Its definitely there. The people frothing at the mouth saying "THESE ARE THE WORST MOVIES EVER MADE AGRGAAGABABHHHHH" are absurd.
But i also think these movies do genuinely have a shit ton of problems and for some people to respond to the hate like "these are fine dont worry" is also a bit much. Shame i gotta disagree with stuckman on this so hard.
HEY GUYS GEEKS AND GAYMERS HERE
@Gren Wren The mob is certainly a factor, but your argument goes all over the damn place. You split off into rambling tangents about musical artists and other films that have nothing do with the subject and throw strawman arguments all over.
A persons problems with a film dont have to hold up in film school underneath professional scrutiny to hold up, thats just stupid. I personally dont give a shit about johnsons "underlying intent" when he tries to be subersive in last jedi, its his job to effectively communicate that and many people including me dont think he did that very well. Many of his subjective twists were just him not delivering on set ups. Wow snoke died without a word. Reys parents dont matter in an offhand sentence thrown out by kylo. Wow the skeezy guy finn and rose tried to get to help out was an asshole and villain the whole time. So crazy.
Vader chased and attacked luke at multiple points and was responsible for billions of deaths on alderan and threatened to kill/corrupt everyone luke loved, and youre seriously comparing him attacking back to him igniting his lightsaber against a defenseless child he felt a tiny glimmer of dark in? If anything his conflict with vader should prove how awful and out of character that was. He was able to hold confidence in and redeem vader, yet he freaks out when he sees a bit of it in kylo.
Just because a lot of people don't like it doesn't mean it's mob mentality.
@Damien Trites Theres 100+ channels made for all kinds of subjects and opinions on youtube. Thats not much of a metric. There is a bit of a bandwagon, as with all polarizing opinions, but that doesnt make genuine criticism any less valid.
