Did you know that the lightsaber sound was an accident. The sound effect director tripped on a wire and made a that iconic sound effect. I hope you find that interesting.
You might think that i'm lying and i would think that someones lying if they said this to me, but my dad said he remembered a few people around a wire with a bunch of recording equipment and he later found out that it was the lightsaber.
He's talking about the special editions, where Lucas went back and changed the scene to have Greedo shoot at Han first and missing before Han shoots back. Lucas did it because he wanted Han to be a good guy instead of a killer.
+TeddyLXIX what confuses me is this was never a matter of contention. No one thought "wait, no- Greedo shot first!" because everyone knew Lucas had altered it. I don't know why it's presented here like it's the counter-argument to all these other people. Am I wrong? Are there actually people out there who thought the altered scene was correct and maybe their memories were skewed?
I remember my dad telling me that whenever he first saw Star Wars in 1977, he wanted to see a different movie. My grandparents thankfully dragged him to Star Wars and he became a fan forever and enstilled that same fandom into me. Thanks Nana and Pappy for dragging my whiny dad to Star Wars in 1977
Great video! Love the passion you have for Star Wars. The comment you made about VHS was interesting. I had the VHS releases to but i guess back then it would of been a huge deal to start watching movies at home, when you felt like it. They were probably a big deal and why so many 90s kids got introduced to Star Wars.
+FCB 2513 Episode 1 came out in 1999. There were at least 9 years of '90s before the prequels. That was plenty of time of us '90s kids to watch the shit out of Star Wars.
"When I left you, I was but a learner. Now I !! Am the Master!" "Only a Master of Evil, Darth." ::: Light sabers clash ::: Doesn't get more iconic than that.
Do you know what just came to my mind? In the lightsabre duel, Obi-Wan is constantly staring at Anakin Skywalker, or rather he tries to, and not on the lightsabre that's possibly about to hit him, of course he is seeing Darth Vader but tries to reach Anakin through the mask who is trying to kill him. I've never noticed that, but it's like really, really strong and powerful that he doesn't care about dying but trying to see his once student, friend and brother.
Chris simply the best reviews online, I thought I was the only person who knew greedos lines, I also know Jabbas dialogue,aw watha watha is great like this movie
I can tell you as someone that was actually there at the theater when it was first release - there was no question life had changed for the human race from that moment on. Only movie I've ever been to that the audience gave it a standing ovation at the end. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was completely blown away. Star Wars changed everything. Not just cinema but life itself would be different from that moment on - the way we looked at each other, the way we looked at purpose, the way we looked at Earth. It united the world in a way that has never been duplicated and stands today as the new bible from which billions have based their beliefs and taken their moral compass. It was truly a life changing event.
+Josh Wilkins Omg, I feel exactly the same! It was this theater reaction of Star Wars for my father, Lord of the Rings for my older brother, and the Avengers for me, since unfortunately I wasn't even born for SW and unable to watch LotR
9 лет назад+11
+Nexus2Eden I heard stories of people actually screaming during the opening scene when that massive star destroyer takes up the entire screen in cinemas when it was released! There is nothing that will ever come close to star wars' audience reaction EVER not avengers or the lord of the rings not even the star was prequels and that is saying something because I'm in my late twenties so I was never there but Star Wars has set the standard with a bar that is light years ahead of any block buster film that will ever be made. PS one thing that could be bigger is episodes 7-9 with 7 releasing this year! AND I GET TO BE PART OF THE GENERATION THAT EXPERIENCES THE REAL STAR WARS (LIKE IT WAS IN THE 70'S) IN THE CINEMA FOR THE FIRST TIME!
+Felps Rabelo That is quite literally the three most influential movie franchises of each generation (apart from The Dark Knight trilogy, but those are a little bit darker as well). The Lord of the Rings is my Star Wars, while the Marvel movies are a lot of other people's Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. It's that thing that gets you into movies and that inspires you. Star Wars was the shit in the 80's. In the early 2000's it was The Lord of the Rings. And now it is the MCU.
in 1977 Star Wars played for over a year at theaters. Some weekends our parents would drop us off at the theater and we would watch Star Wars all day, it was awesome. The Best!!!
That sounds like the best time ever. I remember my late dad telling me that in 1977, in the shopping mall next to where I live, there was a movie theatre that played A New Hope (Star Wars back in the day) plenty of times that my dad saw it multiple times.
Cool but nowadays we are adults we have work, college and following our hopes and dreams that what STAR WARS really about it's all about dreams you know hopes and dreams we to be special we all want to be better we think that way when we were kids what are we going to do with our lives where are we going to go we want to be special.
Can you imagine a world without Star Wars? Rating: 9.9/10 Grade: A+ Positives: World building, great opening, great character development, great character dinamics, great character moments, FUN, hero's journey, great story, Visuals, impactful, music, emotional, iconic, cast and acting Negatives: lightsaber duel, slow at parts, Jabba scene Favorite part: Stromtrooper rescue scene or Cantina scene
I actually have a theory why the lightsaber duel wasn’t the greatest. In the prequel timeline, the technology and fighting was more elegant. Like Obi Wan said “An elegant weapon for a more civilized age” The Jedi combat style was more popular and easier to teach at those times. But after Order 66, there were only a few Jedis left. And both Obi Wan and Darth Vader grew older. Vader’s skills wasn’t that great because he had a tight suit and robotic limbs that slows him. You can actually detect it in the Rogue One scene. Compare it to Hayden’s Anakin. And Obi Wan grew old and he wasn’t as fit as he used to be in his prime. So all of it makes perfect sense.
@@_CPP_ Nothing about what you said makes sense. That doesn't add up at all because Vader moved better in empire and return of the jedi MUCH better than in New Hope. Rogue one doesn't "detect" anything of him growing older. Vader moves even as good as you would have expected. Don't even know where your coming from with that claim. And jedi combat style isn't done to be "popular" it's done for survival. And having few jedi left doesn't mean anything because luke was still able to move fast and agile as any jedi would. And being "old" doesn't matter nor slow you down as you might think compared to a jedi/sith's prime seeing how agile Yoda, Sidious, and especially Count Dooku who were all old as hell but moved in high speeds due to the force amplifying their abilities. So no, Obiwan "grew old" and not being in they're prime isn't much of an excuse especially since dooku was older and moved far better than he ever did. No it doesn't make "perfect sense" from your point of view that your trying to say. Just chalk it up to two old dudes who were making a lazer sword fight for the first time and didn't know how to manage it properly intill the sequel made it even better.
2019 and I still come back to see this. Plus no one ever mentions the most important scene in the entire saga, where Luke looks away from his dead aunt and uncle and then looks back with such intent and conviction, THAT was the singular moment where the greatest protagonist in movie history makes the turn to become fully invested in a character arc that will propel and influence an entire story to become the greatest three part act of interpersonal development I have ever seen.
No, some people love them. I have a personal attachment to the third so I still like it but the first two I'm indifferent to. They could be worse and at least have some redeemable qualities but are still bad movies.
+Ryan Woodward No you're not. They are NOT bad movies. Battlefield Earth is a BAD movie. The prequels are good movies, with bad elements in them that happen to overshadow the overall movies. People complain about the dialogue in the prequels, which is laughable of course, but they forget that the dialogue may be even more corny in the originals...
+Jason Black Thank you for someone realizing that. The dialogue in this film is some of the cheesiest shit I have ever heard. Seriously, Chris should have at least recognized that in the review. I have a deep passionate love for The Ocarina of time but at least I admit that it has certainly aged.
+DickChappy Here's where you can buy it www.redbubble.com/people/djkopet/works/11802812-rebel-fox?p=t-shirt&style=mens&body_color=asphalt&size=large&print_location=front
This is my favourite movie of all time. From start to finish you are always entertained and there's not one boring moment. The opening crawl is amazing, it has a great deal of mystery and excitement and the music is phenomenal. Everything in the movie is practical (no CGI). All the models look real and the Star Destroyer coming over head had everything right about it from the sound design to the scope. No-one has seen anything like this before. All the characters are introduced perfectly with just visuals and great directing. C-3PO and R2-D2 have great chemistry, two characters that can talk and can't is great with chemistry. Tunisia is perfect for Tatooine and it feels just like a desert planet and the Lars Homestead is such and iconic design. We see Luke grow through out the movie and grow as a character. Binary Sunset scene is perfect, the music, the lighting, the visuals, everything is just simply inspiring. The Force is a great mystical energy religion and Alec Guinness is perfect as Ben Kenobi and everything he explains is awesome! Mos Eisley is a nice simple place. It feels lived in and messy which is what it should be! The cantina is brilliant, the music is iconic but the puppets in it are great, people put their heart and souls into all of these and it feels great to think that! Were introduced to the cocky badass Han Solo who is the coolest character ever and Chewbacca is amazing and you can feel the friendship between them. When Han shoots Greedo we know what kind of character he really is. The Millennium Falcon has a great design and it feels so real!!! Everything in the Falcon is great, we learn something new about every character. Han is witty and we learn more about the Force. The Death Star is phenomenal and when they're approaching it it's intense. The rescue of Princess Leia is phenomenal too, it's funny, full of action and for a story's purpose and when the four characters, Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie come together the chemistry is just the best! The lightsaber duel has such a great impact and it's for the story's purpose. And seeing the lightsaber is so exciting and Obi-Wan's death is very sad. The Battle of Yavin's effects are great and still hold up today! But when Han Solo comes back to save Luke, he is redeemed from a low life smuggler to a faithful man fighting for his friends. The Death Star explodes and it pays off greatly. The Throne Room scene has the best music and cinematography and it's very great and then it just ends. But the best part is that no one had hope for this film. George Lucas put everything into this film and when it came out it shocked everyone even George Lucas. It is still alive today 40 years later. And that is why Star Wars is my favourite movie of all time!
It's genuinely bravura filmmaking. It's my favorite too, like Chris said this movie just gets better and better all the way to such a brilliant climax.
#1 Empire Strikes Back #2 The Force Awakens - Yes I did #3 Star Wars #4 Return of the Jedi #5 Revenge of the Sith #6 The Phantom Menace #7 Attack of the Shit
+Leopard95 On my list Return of the Jedi and Star Wars are reversed, but other than that I agree completely. I don't think The Phantom Menace is a good movie, but I never understood why people give it more shit than Attack of the Clones. The second prequel movie (in my opinion) was absolute shite, and while TPM was also overall quite weak, it had more good moments.
I have watched Force Awakens 5 times now, I can give my true rating to the film and not my reaction when I first saw the movie. 1, Star Wars A New Hope 9.6 out of 10 2, Empire Strikes Back 9.6 3, Return of the Jedi (Non Special Edition) 9.4 4, Force Awakens 8.9 5, Revenge of the Sith 6.0 6, Attack of the Clones 5.5 7, The Phantom Menace 5.2
this film caused me to question my sanity as a child. when i watched it the first time i watched one of the versions with the extra content in it, the CG stuff, and later when i watched it again it didn't have that stuff, and i thought i'd made the extra stuff up.
+Keyser Soeze That's amazing, that's the best thing I've read all day. I could totally see how that would happen. I remember experiencing something similar when I would see a movie in theater, but the VHS would have some scenes edited out, and I would always be wondering why I remember additional scenes that don't seem to exist.
I love how excited and passionate Chris gets about this movie. When he's reenacting the scenes and doing the sound effects and music and then he just stops and smiles at the camera with this big smile like a kid, it's so cute.
Star Wars is an amazing film (one of my favorites of all time), but this video in comparison to his reviews of the prequel trilogy (where he nitpicks every little detail) demonstrates how rosy retrospection and nostalgia can easily poison objectivity. For example, he ardently defends the terribly choreographed and awkward lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi in A New Hope (which was entertaining for the time) and then go ahead and picks apart some of the prequel lightsaber battles (Obi Wan vs. Anakin and Obi Wan/Qui Gon vs. Darth Maul) that were masterly executed.
Masterly? It looked as though the fight was choreographed which is the opposite of what it is meant to do, secondly all the details he mentions in the prequel reviews deserve to be nitpicked as they're genuinely bad
No. The Duel of the Fates, Obi Wan/Qui Gon vs. Darth Maul, actually got a good review from Chris. He didn't like much about Phantom Menace, but he liked that battle, and all other Darth Maul scenes.
Star Wars: A New Hope’s one of the best movies imo, it means a lot to me, and it kicks off one of the best franchises of all time. I loved everything about it, and it has tons of rewatch value. Positives: The acting, story, soundtrack, VFX, cinematography, action sequences, humorous moments, the fun vibe, production value, rewatch value, characters, and ending. Negatives: No negatives really, but I’d list that it gets dethroned by Empire Strikes Back.
My personal favorites 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. A New Hope 4. The Force Awakens 5. Return of the Jedi 6. Rogue One 7. Attack of the Clones 8. The Phantom Menace Revenge of the Sith was the first movie I ever saw in a theater and it was so emotional and awesome to me as a kid it will always hold a special place in my heart that's why it's number 2. And the reason I put Attack of the Clones is because the Geonosis Arena Battle. And The Force Awakens to me is only a hair above Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars - A The Empire Strikes Back - A+ Returns of the Jedi - A- Phantom Menace - D+ Attack of the Clones - D- Revenge of the Sith - C The Force Awakens - A
A New Hope is the most special of the whole Starwars series. Its the only one that doesn't make the whole writing process around have the climax be a lightsaber battle.
In the Star Wars documentary, George said everything didn't feel like how he wanted but when it came to the score, it not only met his expectations but surpassed them. He was extremely pleased with the musical score.
+Flare_123 yeah, but quite a bit of it was Episode VII stuff which, who knows? I mean, rewind 20 years and it could just as easily have been two Gungan figures back there on the shelf- We have no idea what we're in for.
My ranking, probably not an uncommon opinion: 1. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 2. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 3. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens 4. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 5. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 7. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones 8. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 9. Star Wars: The Clone Wars 10. The Star Wars Holiday Special
I'm glad you used Despecialized Edition in this review! Screen Junkies used the 2006 "GOUT" DVD for their honest trailer's original footage and it looks like garbage.
I know this is a great movie and everyone likes it, but Chris didn't talk about any flaws... And yes it has some flaws... I would have loved to hear his thoughts on that
+Szymon Czarnotta How about the stupid architects that somehow thought it would be appropriate to leave a hatchet open, so that if you successfully manages to launch a missile or torpedo in there, the entire Battle Station explodes almost on commando. That is my single biggest flaw with the original trilogy. That and those damn Ewoks...
***** Bro, opinions on movies are subjective. Obviously you are in the minority with yours. The dialogue in the original Star Wars may not be the greatest of all time. In fact, cast members were laughing about it when they were making the film. Now people quote these lines all over. You may think it's bad dialogue but that doesn't change the fact that it was a hit that no one saw coming.
***** People defend A New Hope because it's widely viewed as a great film, not because of nostalgia. I saw Episodes I and II before I even watched the original trilogy, yet I highly prefer the original trilogy. Why? Because they are better in every conceivable way. And I don't even hate the prequels (in fact, I like Episode III).
+Diego Huerta No. I meant October. The guy asked if Empire gets an A++. Chris is reviewing every Episode til Episode VII comes out in December. Empire gets reviewed in October. Get what I was saying now?
I'd have given episode 1 a 5.5/10 simply because of the lightsaber batter with Darth Maul, and episode 7 a 8/10, I saw too much of episode 4 in it personally. I do agree with your other ratings however, spot on.
+dat guy Can't be a idiot for a personal opinion that differs from yours. He clearly didn't like VII, like a few people I know, doesn't make them idiots.
This movie’s acting is kinda bad at times, and there are a few questionable moments like when Vader just talks to Obi Wan about how he’s become the master, but still an absolute masterpiece and a classic for all time. 9.8/10 fantastic movie.
There's one small thing in one scene in this one. When C-3PO is talking about R2's hologram of Leia, he says he doesn't know for sure who it is. Earlier when the rebel ship was being boarded, C-3PO said "There'll be no escape for the princess this time" so he definitely knows who she is. Later in the hologram scene, he recalls that his last mast was Capt. Antilles, so he should be able to recall who she is. And he isn't covering it up for her, because he tell R2 that Luke can be trusted. Again, it's a small thing, but it kinda bugs me.
If you think it was original to tell the story through the small-time characters of C-3PO and R2D2, check out a little film call The Hidden Fortress, which Lucas "borrowed" from in making Star Wars, including getting the design for the Imperial logo.
George Lucas was and is a huge fan of Kurosawa, but that was just the main story, the rest I give all the credit to George himself and his amazing and talented crew.
+brian0918 All the way!! I can't wait to review them for Episode 7!! I've done the prequels to get them out of the way; come check out my channel if you'd like to see them
+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) You can tell that version in use was Harmy's Despec version, since the color coding is way different compared to blu-ray. I spotted immediately that it was the version used. Harmy's version uses A LOT of different sources to gather one definite original version. You can find a lot of information about the project on RUclips and the originaltrilogy -site. The Harmy's version is not perfect though, there are some slight problems with it but overall it's very very good considering the formats used to combine the final product (LaserDisc, blu-ray, still images, different film prints and so on...) mixed with a different type of image processing tools.
+Tyler Jacobson Ehhhhhhhh.... maybe? I dunno, there's some pretty strong competition depending on what you look for in a villain. If we're talking villains in general then he's definitely not. I mean you can't really stand Vader next to someone like Hannibal Lecter and have him be taken as seriously, take him out of his universe and he seems a lot less intimidating. Also, he's kind of the emperors bitch and his motivations aren't terribly strong in the context of the original movies. "evil = power, therefore I am evil" mixed with "'cause the boss said so". That all being said I still love him as a villain.
Eon2641 I don't think he or the emperor ever considered themselves evil in the original films. And ESB introduced the idea of him trying to use his son to overtake the emperor.
my favorite 6 star wars films are 1.) Star Wars Return of the jedi 2.) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 3.) Star Wars A New hope 4.) Star Wars: The Revenge Of the Sith 5.) Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 6.) Star wars: Attack of the clones and the people who think the attack of the clones is the best are Bad mother Fuckers.
Return of the jedi is my Favorite Star Wars movie because leias in a sexy giolden bikini, Luke force gesturing gamoreons, Han putting something to explode the sheild system on endor also I can see ewoks being badass and what they can find against walkers and storntrooper.
+Manuel Danner lol Ewoks is the reason everyone considers Return of the Jedi to be the weakest of the three originals. Ewoks are basically the Jar Jar cancer of the originals.
I'm 31 now, the first time I saw a Star Wars movie was when I was maybe 6. I saw Star Wars A New Hope at a friends birthday party. It grabbed my attention and imagination from the start and never let go. I became a life long fan that day. It's a huge part of my life, my favourite franchise. I love Star Wars so much. It's not like I love every thing they put out, but I just love the music, characters, and the general universe that Lucas created.
The scene with C-3PO and R2-D2 is taken straight out of the Kurosawa film Hidden Fortress. In Hidden Fortress the story is told primarily from the point of view of its least important characters, 2 peasants. You called this "clever and original" for Star Wars. but it's not. Chris, have you not seen Hidden Fortress or are you intentionally misinforming your audience because they don't know better?
+SEAN IS THE DEVIL Well that doesn't make you sound stupid at all.....watch the cinefix video "How are Samurai films responsible for Star wars ?!?" It's extremely interesting and tells you all about it
+Jacob Kwiatkowski He didn't steal anything. Every film mimics those before it. Since the 1950s there have only been a few truly 100% original films. Tropes, clichés, techniques etc are all reused in cinema.

One of the best experiences I've ever had with Star Wars was experiencing it with someone who has never seen the movies before. They didn't know anything about Star Wars except that Darth Vader was Luke's father. Just watching a dear friend of mine glow with excitement and fear and excitement again really ignited my love for the series again. (Also, the machete order is fantastic for someone who has never seen it before).

This review feels more like a fanboy trip rather than a critical outlook. Either way I'd give it an A-
Clifford Smolko its not a great movie its a great blockbuster. The godfather is a great movie. Gladiator is a great movie. Its a spectacle you can lose yourself in it buts so is Disney World. Nostalgia and bias is the only reason you could make that point. Objectively there are alot of things for children in every star wars movie. Every 7 year old can understand it almost completely at 7. Laser, laser, explosion, spaceship, scary guy in black, old teacher, pretty girl. Cool guy. Thats what the movie breaks down to.

Here's how iconic the Star Wars soundtrack is. I bet you can recognize this song: Doo dee doo dee di-di dooooo, di-di Doo-dee-dee-doo, di-di-di du dooOOOoo doo.
I always try to imagine the scifi fans of the 70's. Having almost nothing to compare this with, no points of reference, what was going on in their hearts coming out of the theatre ? I can't even imagine how mind-blowing, life-altering this must have been.
In the intro, you forgot to add in the CGI dinosaurs.

Did you know that the lightsaber sound was an accident. The sound effect director tripped on a wire and made a that iconic sound effect. I hope you find that interesting.

Dan Jakubik and the tie fighters contained sounds of an elephant
Lepras and a car
You might think that i'm lying and i would think that someones lying if they said this to me, but my dad said he remembered a few people around a wire with a bunch of recording equipment and he later found out that it was the lightsaber.
Ben Burt hit a tension wire with a hanmer, he didn't trip over it. He was a imaginative sound designer. So I guess your wrong.
Han didn't just shoot first, he was the only one to shoot.
He's talking about the special editions, where Lucas went back and changed the scene to have Greedo shoot at Han first and missing before Han shoots back. Lucas did it because he wanted Han to be a good guy instead of a killer.
yup
+TheSMLIFfilms lammme, hans is better as a killer
+TeddyLXIX what confuses me is this was never a matter of contention. No one thought "wait, no- Greedo shot first!" because everyone knew Lucas had altered it. I don't know why it's presented here like it's the counter-argument to all these other people. Am I wrong? Are there actually people out there who thought the altered scene was correct and maybe their memories were skewed?

Damn that VHS opening brings back some fond memories.
I'd never seen it before and I still felt nostalgic
Do you know what just came to my mind? In the lightsabre duel, Obi-Wan is constantly staring at Anakin Skywalker, or rather he tries to, and not on the lightsabre that's possibly about to hit him, of course he is seeing Darth Vader but tries to reach Anakin through the mask who is trying to kill him. I've never noticed that, but it's like really, really strong and powerful that he doesn't care about dying but trying to see his once student, friend and brother.
That's a nice thought.
Victor Ferger wow, you got it DOWN.

Awesome! (That's what The Avengers was for me- including the audience reaction in theaters)
+Josh Wilkins Omg, I feel exactly the same! It was this theater reaction of Star Wars for my father, Lord of the Rings for my older brother, and the Avengers for me, since unfortunately I wasn't even born for SW and unable to watch LotR
+Nexus2Eden I had a huge smile as I read your comment
in 1977 Star Wars played for over a year at theaters.
Awesome!
Cool but nowadays we are adults we have work, college and following our hopes and dreams that what STAR WARS really about it's all about dreams you know hopes and dreams we to be special we all want to be better we think that way when we were kids what are we going to do with our lives where are we going to go we want to be special.
Nice, where are those days where they can make a good movie that something is new as this,
Correct! I was 6 in 1977 and made my Dad take me countless times! Life changing
Fun Star Wars fact: A lot of the 'people' in the Throne Room scene in the original non special edition versions of Star Wars were cardboard cut outs.
The scene where Luke and Han got their medals, at the end?

HE WALKED DOWN THE ISLE TO STAR WARS MUSIC AT HIS FUCKING WEDDING OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU CHRIS😂😂😂

RedLightning007 And also when Alderran was destoryed, Leia could've also showed more emotion.
Yeah I agree. This movie has a lot of wooden and unpolished parts compared to the two that come afterwards.

Rating: 9.9/10
Grade: A+
Positives: World building, great opening, great character development, great character dinamics, great character moments, FUN, hero's journey, great story, Visuals, impactful, music, emotional, iconic, cast and acting
Negatives: lightsaber duel, slow at parts, Jabba scene
Favorite part: Stromtrooper rescue scene or Cantina scene
@@Gadget-Walkmen That’s what happens when you get old. You become much more slow, and you get a worse memory.
@@_CPP_ like I said, it’s NOT what happened when your old tho for force users.
Sidious, yoda, and count dooku have proved this over and over again.

We have the same feelings mate, I saw the FIRST Star Wars movie in cinema is The Force Awakens and I was 19 then!
Am I the only one who DOESN'T hate the prequels?
No, some people love them. I have a personal attachment to the third so I still like it but the first two I'm indifferent to. They could be worse and at least have some redeemable qualities but are still bad movies.
+Ryan Woodward no no there are two or three out there.

***** No prob
The Death Star trench run is still my favorite 15 minutes of film ever. So captivating.
It's genuinely bravura filmmaking. It's my favorite too, like Chris said this movie just gets better and better all the way to such a brilliant climax.

#1 Empire Strikes Back
#2 The Force Awakens - Yes I did
#3 Star Wars
#4 Return of the Jedi
#5 Revenge of the Sith
#6 The Phantom Menace
#7 Attack of the Shit
I agree except I would switch Ep. 7 and Ep. 4
Magma Ascending Fair enough :)
My exact list
+Leopard95 On my list Return of the Jedi and Star Wars are reversed, but other than that I agree completely. I don't think The Phantom Menace is a good movie, but I never understood why people give it more shit than Attack of the Clones. The second prequel movie (in my opinion) was absolute shite, and while TPM was also overall quite weak, it had more good moments.
I have watched Force Awakens 5 times now, I can give my true rating to the film and not my reaction when I first saw the movie.
1, Star Wars A New Hope 9.6 out of 10
2, Empire Strikes Back 9.6
3, Return of the Jedi (Non Special Edition) 9.4
4, Force Awakens 8.9
5, Revenge of the Sith 6.0
6, Attack of the Clones 5.5
7, The Phantom Menace 5.2
"That Stormtrooper smack his head on the door, mommy. What was that all about, daddy."
- Chris Struckman
That scene proves the Empire is rude to tall Stormtroopers.
This was the year I got married for the second time. We saw Star Wars at the theater 3 times. And had to wait for the next movie.
this film caused me to question my sanity as a child. when i watched it the first time i watched one of the versions with the extra content in it, the CG stuff, and later when i watched it again it didn't have that stuff, and i thought i'd made the extra stuff up.
I don't know about you, but John William's music for
all the movies is so freaking badass.
Uncle and aunt Owen, did anybody else noticed that 😂😂😂😂

I completely agree with you. He didn’t review the two trilogies fairly
No. The Duel of the Fates, Obi Wan/Qui Gon vs. Darth Maul, actually got a good review from Chris. He didn't like much about Phantom Menace, but he liked that battle, and all other Darth Maul scenes.
I still don't understand the complaints about choreography besides some CGI complaints. It's never bothered me much in any of them.
You’re absolutely correct
The intro with Chris voicing Greedo... Impressive...
Is it bad that I like 5 and 6 more than 4? I love them all
There's nothing bad about it, it's your opinion it might not be a shared one but at the end of the day it's what ever you enjoy

That opening animation alone deserves a like.

Anyone else notice he changed his background to all star wars stuff
Yes he even said that in the video

2. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
3. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
4. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
5. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
7. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
8. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
9. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
10. The Star Wars Holiday Special
Where would you rank Last Jedi?
I'd put it between 6 and 7 imo
Your entire first five minutes is an echo of my early childhood.
I'm glad you used Despecialized Edition in this review! Screen Junkies used the 2006 "GOUT" DVD for their honest trailer's original footage and it looks like garbage.
hey what are you doing here taking a break? get back to work on rotj de 2.0!!
I was thinking the same thing... I just got the Despecialized editions a few weeks ago and man I am sooo fucking happy!
same!!
Its not despecialized its just the normal version
Todd S. It's as close to the original 77 film, as possible hence it's not the special edition, "despecialized".
Szymon Czarnotta That's not really an excuse, but whatever.
+Anthony Verzino Like what? And don't say the dialogue, since that's what makes it Star Wars.
You gotta add Maclunkey in that intro now
but, did you like it?
Does Empire Strikes Back get an A++? :)
A++?
how about a S+++++?
+Sex-E Coco how about STD++++ ?
Guess you'll have to wait til October..
No, an A+++++++++! My absolute all time favorite movie. so incredible on every single level
+Diego Huerta No. I meant October. The guy asked if Empire gets an A++. Chris is reviewing every Episode til Episode VII comes out in December. Empire gets reviewed in October. Get what I was saying now?
Episode 1- 3.3/10
Episode 2- 3/10
Episode 3- 6/10
Episode 4- 9.5/10
Episode 5- 10/10
Episode 6- 8/10
Episode 7- 9/10
I'd have given episode 1 a 5.5/10 simply because of the lightsaber batter with Darth Maul, and episode 7 a 8/10, I saw too much of episode 4 in it personally. I do agree with your other ratings however, spot on.
episode 7 was TERRIBLE. And 3 was much better.
+dat guy Can't be a idiot for a personal opinion that differs from yours. He clearly didn't like VII, like a few people I know, doesn't make them idiots.
***** Why? Because I see the copy cat that is 7.
you guys are giving episode 1 too high a score lol
I lost my shit with your Luke impression "power converters" 😂😂😂💀👻
This movie’s acting is kinda bad at times, and there are a few questionable moments like when Vader just talks to Obi Wan about how he’s become the master, but still an absolute masterpiece and a classic for all time. 9.8/10 fantastic movie.
FINALLY THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY!!!!
LMAO you're the first comment I found here
hell yeah been waiting for this for a long time :)
After watching this video over 1,000 times, I think this is now my favourite Chris Stuckmann video
13:06 lol that adam sandler impression
There's one small thing in one scene in this one. When C-3PO is talking about R2's hologram of Leia, he says he doesn't know for sure who it is. Earlier when the rebel ship was being boarded, C-3PO said "There'll be no escape for the princess this time" so he definitely knows who she is. Later in the hologram scene, he recalls that his last mast was Capt. Antilles, so he should be able to recall who she is. And he isn't covering it up for her, because he tell R2 that Luke can be trusted. Again, it's a small thing, but it kinda bugs me.
I love it when Chris is so much into a review. He had a blast and so did I!
"Wait why the FFFFUCK are you action figures?"
DYING.
Thank you George Lucas for making this iconic trilogy!
And that character arc that you were talking about is the reason why I like the last Jedi Luke
i agree
Saaaaaame
If you think it was original to tell the story through the small-time characters of C-3PO and R2D2, check out a little film call The Hidden Fortress, which Lucas "borrowed" from in making Star Wars, including getting the design for the Imperial logo.
Still, I agree Star Wars is an A+
George Lucas was and is a huge fan of Kurosawa, but that was just the main story, the rest I give all the credit to George himself and his amazing and talented crew.
+brian0918
All the way!! I can't wait to review them for Episode 7!! I've done the prequels to get them out of the way; come check out my channel if you'd like to see them
***** Tumblr is a terrible place to be anyways, the movie is really an A+.
Quick question, if the clips you're playing is the original pre-1997 versions, how come the resolution is so good?
What's that?
+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) Star Wars was just that high quality when it came out
+Johan Öberg (Protoman85) You can tell that version in use was Harmy's Despec version, since the color coding is way different compared to blu-ray.
Harmy's Despecialized Edition, you should download it!
+Szymon Czarnotta How do you download all three movies? I'm struggling to find them
This movie had a 14 minute space combat scene... unheard of in today's movies
So true Luke Skywalker had a damn good character arc!!!
One of the greatest villains? Well then who the hell is the greatest? actually there's so many to choose from.
+TheGeek41 Most icon definitely, one of the greatest? Eh, not really.
Best sci fi villain of all time.
Lucas from The Wizard.
And ESB introduced the idea of him trying to use his son to overtake the emperor.
my favorite 6 star wars films are
1.) Star Wars Return of the jedi
2.) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
3.) Star Wars A New hope
4.) Star Wars: The Revenge Of the Sith
5.) Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
6.) Star wars: Attack of the clones
and the people who think the attack of the clones is the best are Bad mother Fuckers.
+Manuel Danner That is exactly how I rate the Star Wars films.
xXxfiewindxXx cool Bud and by the way the phantom is always alittle better than attack of the clones and revenge of the sith is better than both
Return of the jedi is my Favorite Star Wars movie because leias in a sexy giolden bikini, Luke force gesturing gamoreons, Han putting something to explode the sheild system on endor also I can see ewoks being badass and what they can find against walkers and storntrooper.
+Manuel Danner lol Ewoks is the reason everyone considers Return of the Jedi to be the weakest of the three originals. Ewoks are basically the Jar Jar cancer of the originals.
+Jordan Caws I know that but I still like him that's just my opinin and some people do need to get used to jar jar.
Episode I: D
Episode II: F
Episode III: B+
Episode IV: A
Episode V: A+
Episode VI: B-
Episode VII: B
+SEAN IS THE DEVIL a Japanese film... Most of star wars is inspired by Japanese culture like samurai and such
+SEAN IS THE DEVIL Well that doesn't make you sound stupid at all.....watch the cinefix video "How are Samurai films responsible for Star wars ?!?" It's extremely interesting and tells you all about it
George Lucas stated in interviews that Akira Kurosawa changed his life. He's stolen so much from his films.
+Jacob Kwiatkowski He didn't steal anything. Every film mimics those before it. Since the 1950s there have only been a few truly 100% original films. Tropes, clichés, techniques etc are all reused in cinema.
+DerringerHK But Star Wars is not much more than a collection of zillions of tropes and cliches.
I never hear anyone talk about the Jawas. They're like one of my favorite star wars alien species. Utinni!!
I was just rewatching the scene where R2D2 gets captured by the Jawas.
Same. Love those little guys!
This intro is probably the best one I’ve d Ed seen 😂🤣😂
Star wars: 10
Empire Strikes Back: 10
Return of the Jedi: 8
Phantom Menace: 6
Attack of the Clones: 5
Revenge of the Sith: 7
Force Awakens: 7
Rogue One: 9
Rogue one is ass.
Revenge of the sith 9
@@95_nishanraisulkarim62 All this years later, I'd change a few:
Return of the Jedi: 7
Revenge of the Sith: 6
Force Awakens: 5
Rogue One: 7
Throne room music at your wedding 😂 Legend!!
(Also, the machete order is fantastic for someone who has never seen it before).
did you watch them in order of release or chronological order?
Has anyone ever wondered why Star Wars characters carry out conversations in two different languages?
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Revenge of the Sith
3. Rogue One
4.A New Hope
5.Return of the Jedi
6.The Force Awakens
7.The Phantom Menace
8.Attack of the Bad Movie
Hahah the 70s films are not good
Alec Guinness actually received an Oscar for "Best Supportive Actor" in the movie.
He hated star wars that's a fact
He was nominated but didn't win. The winner was Jason Robards for the film Julia.
He didn’t win though.
Incorrect. He received a nomination.
@@colematthews8652 I don’t think that he hated Star Wars itself, but the cultish adulation that surrounds it. He was such a classic actor, in so much classic cinema epics like Lawrence Of Arabia and Ben Hur, I suspect that he simply didn’t see Star Wars on equal footing.
1. The Empire Strikes Back A+
2. A New Hope A+
3. The Force Awakens A
4. Return of The Jedi A
5. Revenge of The Sith A-
6. Rogue One B+
7. The Phantom Menace C
8. Attack of The Clones C-

This review feels more like a fanboy trip rather than a critical outlook. I understand you love the movie, I do to, but somethings have dated and sometimes it feels as if you are just like ''here is some criticism that the movie received but its wrong because its star wars and star wars originals are perfect''.
Either way I'd give it an A-
13dirty666 what kind of movie would you give an A+ for? cuz most people consider Star Wars to be the peak of movie making.
Clifford Smolko Empire Strikes Back is an A+. Most people consider it better than Star Wars so I don't know how Star Wars can be the peak.
paulTHEboss I could say the same for Alien and Aliens.
Agree, been watching Chris’ old star wars review, idk i think he’s just swept up with ep 7 hype
Star Wars - 10/10

RUCKUSS Production Co. "I expected way more from that movie". Exactly, you. That's my opinion, not God's word.
Rodrigo Bertini I don't like force awakens personaly
Rodrigo Bertini a
Still wondered why obi wan spun around while swinging. vader couldve killed him then.
Obi Wan's ghost: I dunno, for the luls, I guess.
Because Obi Wan and Annakin already had their battle for the ages, Obi wan was only buying time and Vader knew that subconsciously
I love this review! Probably my favorite movie. I'm a huge fan of you AND Star Wars!!!
+Chris King (ThePortalKing) lol by the way the skit before the review in this review and the last star wars one are my favorite parts of your videos ever.
+Chris King (ThePortalKing) Favorite movie? Lol well ok.
The JuanTrueKaiser Lol oops you know what I meant
Here's how iconic the Star Wars soundtrack is. I bet you can recognize this song:
Doo dee doo dee di-di dooooo, di-di
Doo-dee-dee-doo, di-di-di du dooOOOoo doo.
so true :)
13:24 don't disappoint me with Shelby Oaks, Chris
You can feel Chris' unrestrained fandom in this review. :)
It’s weird how George Lucas directed one of the greatest movies of all time, then made some of the worst movies ever
Shane Schumacher like the prequels
I always try to imagine the scifi fans of the 70's. Having almost nothing to compare this with, no points of reference, what was going on in their hearts coming out of the theatre ? I can't even imagine how mind-blowing, life-altering this must have been.
The explosions haven't held up
I think they have.
