The reason why obi wan said “don’t try it” is because he knew anakin was going to use the same maneuver he did against Maul, and he knew how to counter it unlike anakin
@@jacookie9707 that is literally the reason? Obi wan was in the sinilar situation and caught maul off guard. Obi is in mauls place and is on guard, and he didnt want to kill him even though he had to
Only reason I say it’s a stretch because Obi and anakin were at different positions when they went for the attempt. It does appear that anakin went to flip over Obi which is what kenobi does to maul. Maybe not as much of a stretch 🤷🏻♂️
HorizonEngine05 episode 3 was the best of the prequels the duels were epic, soundtrack, effects Hayden was better in this one Rip Christopher Lee (count dooku) 2015
All the choreographed lightsaber fights are way better than any from the original series. That is how lightsaber fights are supposed to be. The original trilogy fights look like me and my brother fucking around in the backyard. Not sure how you could think Anakin and Obi-Wan’s duel isn’t good.
@@jhupp8707 lol, the Duel in the original Star Wars is better than all of the Prequel Duels combined. There is no emotional Weight to any of the Prequel Duels whatsoever.
I remember some kid yelling "the millennium falcon!" then somebody else "oh shit!". Everyone cheered afterwards. The benefits of watching the midnight showing for these movies. That kid was the man of the hour lol
Hayden Christensen's reaction to Padme being pregnant was actually phenomenal acting, I thought. Very few words, but he conveyed how joyous and how much of a concern it was at the same time.
Hayden isn’t a bad actor. He was given bad lines, and the way he executed them was the way Lucas had him do it. And palpatine used the force to kill padme in order to complete anakin’s path to the dark side
I appreciate Chris's honesty; he acknowledges what he likes and what he doesn't like. Too many people want to just label the prequels as shit and never say anything positive, so Chris, my hats off to you.
He still can't give some of the deeper scenes the credit they deserve. The final moment between Anakin and Obi Wan deserves a lot more attention in any review for this film. The latest (episode 49) of Jedi Alliance here on yt brings that up beautifully. I had chills listening to them describing Hayden's acting and line delivery in those final moments.
Adam " had chills listening to them describing Hayden's acting and line delivery ". I think you're the first person to ever complement Hayden Christiansen's acting.
***** He was using Bonetti's defense, Anakin should have attacked with Capa Ferro. But then again Obi Wan probably knew Thibault which cancels Capa Ferro, unless of course Anakin knew Agrippa, which used many times during the duel anyway.
My view of the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight is that these are two Jedi who are perfect. They know exactly what the other one is going to do so it's basically choreographed to them. They are so in tune with the force they are probably almost viewing everything in slow mo.
Patrick Garvey If they were "perfect" the duel would be as a Samurai Iai-do duel. They look at each other, analyse the others posture, energy, aura, everything. And all of a sudden they both strike at the same time and one of them falls. But Lucas isn't good enough to do that kind of scene and make it exciting and tense to watch.
Patrick Garvey I agree, I very much liked the action between the two. These are two highly skilled Jedi fighting who are both familiar with each other's fighting styles during the peak time of the republic for the Jedi order. Fast, constantly checking each other for weaknesses in their stances. Very fun to watch.
Patrick Garvey Well, for me the duel sadly looks like Luigi fights Mario with lightsabers, with all that jumping on moving platforms across lava...very much like the dreadful droid-factory-scene in Ep 2 its too videogamey and lacks all tension, due to visual overkill and lack of "restraint", dialogue and, well, proper build-up in the previous-movie to make one actually care ...
Omar Gillespie the fight in force awakens was a joke 😂😂 looked like too desperate virgins having sex. Also what the fuck does MMA have to do with Star Wars 🤦♂️fucks sake 😂
That actually makes sense. I hate to be that guy, but.......if we're looking at it from a purely medical standpoint, if a very pregnant woman was choked, that would cause serious trauma and possibly a premature delivery. But it wouldn't kill her. I've always thought that Palpatine, as usual, was manipulating things behind the scenes. He obviously didn't want his new apprentice to be distracted by anything. So, even if Palpatine didn't directly kill Padme, he was still involved in using the Force to drain her life from her and, in turn, empower Vader more.
Yeah. Instinctively, the audience would assume that Palpatine would be referring to Obi-Wan's impending arrival. But it's a double meaning: with Padme dead and Obi-Wan soon to be exiled, the Emperor was no longer concerned about any more of his plans being derailed.
There's a better theory that it's because George Lucas had become a clumsy and lazy writer, and since he'd previously lied about having written out the back story of the originals before filming them, he now needed this fear of Padme dying trope to explain Anakin's turn to the dark side because he didn't actually have a reason. So instead of coming up with one that fit the fact that Leia in episode 6 clearly knew her mother before she died, he continued the prequels incongruence and took the lazy way out, and re-wrote the history of the character.
***** I thought it was bad that Star Wars was going to Mickey Mouse at first, but as long as it's out of George's hands, it's a good thing. He doesn't care about the story of Star Wars the way the fans do. He only cares about the technology, and what he can do with it, and showing this great galaxy he can create visually. That's the big difference between Lucas and the fans -- his motivation for Star Wars and the majority of the fans' (especially the original fans) motivations are completely different.
I agree on most points, however: - Anakins turn to the dark side makes sense to me. Windus line "He is too dangerous to be kept alive" shows Anakin that the Jedi are not that different from the Sith. Palpatine said the exact same thing to Anakin after the death of Dooku ("He was too dangerous to be kept alive). Where is the line between good and evil? If there is no clear distinction between the two, why not choose the side that allows you to save your loved one? I mean, Yoda response to Anakins dream was "Train yourself to let go... of everything you fear to lose". - The battle at the end was perfect for me. It showed how powerful the Jedi were in their prime. They are supernatural beings...I had no problem with the hole choreography. Luke and Vader had more emotional impact. That for sure. - I think you missed a really cool moment during the opera scene: Palpatines smile while he delivers the line "How ironic...". He says that line as if he was talking to himself. Just to show how egoistic and narcissist he is. Especially because he was the one who killed Darth Plagueis. It was not just some old Sith legend. He was talking about something that he did. - Another cool element: The rank of master allowed the Jedi to enter the forbidden part of the library, where all old Sith-artifacts were. Anakin hoped to enter that part of the temple to get some information on how to save Padme. So his anger and disappointment becomes even more clear, when the rank of masters was denied.
"If there is no clear distinction between the two" Bro, sure the Jedi's morals are questionable at best but even an idiot can see that Palpatine is evil and that the Jedi at least try to be good. He literally send Anakin to kill all Jedis in the Temple, including the younger ones in exchange for a power he doesn't even really know exists. He says he sees through the lies of the Jedi but is too blind to see that Palpatine is just using him. I like Episode 3 just fine, it's better than any Disney Star Wars, but Anakin is a total idiot in it. Who in their right mind would think your wife, who clearly is a good person, would stay with you after you fucked shit up so bad and slaughtered so many people? And I don't think there's anything wrong with Yoda's line, in life you are going to lose things you love and there is nothing you can do about it. Also, from where do you got your last point? I watched the film recently and must have completely missed it, now don't tell me that it is from some expanded universe crap. I do agree with your other points though.
@Knavire First point doesn't count since we are talking about the prequels and Anakins decision to turn, so no death star. Second, do you have any examples? From the movies, no cartoons or books. And with Jedi I literally mean JEDI, no senate
@Knavire No, I specifically replied to the original comment (not by you) soley talking about Anakin turning to the dark side in Episode 3, you know, the movie this video is about.
@Knavire It doesn't exists in a void, nobody said that so stop pulling stuff out of your ass. This video is about Episode 3, the original comment only referenced story points from Episode 3 and so did my reply.
"Special effects are just a tool, a means of telling a story. People have a tendency to confuse them as an end to themselves. A Special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing." - George Lucas
I think it was a reshoot as Chris suggests. I heard Lucas say (in a commentary I think) that originally he didn't want any lovey-dovey scenes between Anakin and Padme due to the poor reception for the love scenes in Episode II. However, after viewing a rough cut of Episode III, he decided that he needed at least a brief scene of their relationship seeming idyllic before it collapses over the course of the film. So Lucas added the balcony love scene.
Only because the music is so prominent and this was my favorite overall score in the series, but the first Star Wars has that scene in it where Leia has her back and forth with Vader and it recalls the feeling of heroism in those first three... Idk
.... actually revenge of the sithe is the only one that starts with combat... all the others are peaceful but building to battle... well revenge of the sithe as well as STAR WARS
I disagree with your opinion on the Mustafar fight. The fight was heavily choreographed yes but the entire time I felt both of their lives were at stake. I didn't see two men just whipping around lightsabers like assholes. I saw two jedi in their prime fighting the best fight of their lives.
il100374 The way the fight scene flows and each actor wields their lightsaber is a far cry from the Phantom Menace which looked way more choreographed. This fight just feels heavy. It feels emotional and intense.
il100374 I agree with all of those points. Also adding on to that, Anakin and Obi-Wan have fought together for over ten years, and they just went through three years of intense war. They know each other's moves and fighting style, so it make sense that the lightsaber battle would be longer. This is actually my favorite duel in the whole saga. It's heavy, emotional, intense, and I really feel like the fate of the whole galaxy is resting on the outcome.
LaminCookie Right. Chris might not be aware that Palpatine messed up face is actual real face and that gentleman face from before is just a mask using the force. Palpatine delved deep into dark side and those who do that usually get physical deformation. This is why he was not surprised. He no longer needed to hide from his facade.
0:30 *Anakin:* Can you PLEASE stop monologuing and just kill me? This lava is really slow and painful *Obi-wan:* Nah. I’m just going to leave you here, so you can be revived and terrorize the galaxy.
Ok, regarding Natalie and her odd appearance. I'll take a stab at it. This scene was definitely a pick up scene or reshoot well after principal photography had been completed. This happened late 2004 in London (Wiki). V for Vendetta had started it's principal photography. Yes, I'm saying she was already bald and had to wear a wig for this scene.
I always thought she looked awful in that scene! I always point it out to people and they think I'm crazy. I always thought it was unflattering lighting or something. It's the worst she's looked in the entire series. I'm glad I'm not crazy for thinking this. so weird.
I wouldn't say that Revenge of the Sith is my favourite Star Wars film, but I'd still love to see the original 4 hour cut, to see how different it would be. It'd probably be very boring, but it would be interesting to watch.
I always guessed that the screwed up face is actually Palpatine's real face, and when he used force lightning on Windu, he drained the power to keep his disguise or youth intact.
I hope nobody seriously thinks any actor is ever in front of the camera without any makeup on. Of course she was wearing makeup. It's the terrible curly hair and accentuating her ears, her face looks wider than usual. Maybe she gained 2 pounds before a reshoot.
There's alot of lore Chris doesn't know about around this, the lightning didn't turn his face, it unveiled his real face. Can't remember exactly what it was but palpatine was hiding his real face with sith powers
May 19th, the month and date, and 2005 is the year when it made it's debut up on the big screen in the box office. The actual movie in the prequels worth watching, and no more talk of politics, senate delegations, or trade negotiations. Just the real movie worth seeing.
Mikeylangelo always thought calling kids younglings was so stupid and pretentious. George Lucas dropped the ball with dialogue throughout the whole series but seemed to really amplify it for the later made movies.
Andy Tihonow I love the wit in Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. Rtoj is where his style got stale and we all remember the prequels. And I have to say, the past three directors have completely mirrored his mistakes. The amount of emotion from the actors is much higher in Rogue One, and the two new saga films, but good God, it's like they want us to watch these movies on mute. Almost to make us even more interested in that God awful CGI. Oh and just because I'm here discussing shitty George Lucas choices... Why in the hell would they not use the Yoda Puppet, even an animatronic would have been great. The beauty of the first three is the practical effects. When They're real objects, as obserd some are, the creature like the Wampa or Yoda suddenly feel like they might exist somewhere.
@@CMonty yeah, I think it has been known for quite a while now, people just giving up on live inside war-torn or besieged cities for example during the World Wars.
I actually really liked anakin immediately submitting himself to palpatine after killing windu. He was desperate and was forced to make a choice, Its as if he has no option left since he already killed the second strongest jedi in the order and he cant turn back on his decision.
blind tree man I love revenge of the sith don’t care what the haters say. I know there’s flaws and cheese but I saw he same in the originals which aren’t as flawless as people think. I think the story and the characters in the prequels were a great addition. Just the execution was poor.
Gemma James honestly the story was the worst part for me in the prequels. It made no sense and everyone was a moron who didn’t know what they were doing
the scene where padme's dying because she "lost the will to live" and then the childbirth being intercut with the death of anakin was supposed to show that palpatine was sapping padme's life force in order to save anakin's life. just moments after padme's death, when darth vader stands up, palpatine tells him that padme was dead, and there was no other possible way for him to know that she was dead while being that far away unless he was the one behind it. why else would he introduce the tale of darth plagius the wise and the ability to stop those you love from dying? I can't remember where i saw it, but i saw a review on youtube that delved deeper into this idea but i can't remember what it was called or who the uploader was.
this theory has a great weakness. palpatine must have known about anakin's children if he had access to padme's life force. he most likely didnt know. anakin strangulating padme left bad injuries on her body and soul. i think palpatine told truth at that point. anakin killed padme knowingly or unknowingly.
I wish instead of yelling “NOoOo” at the end Vader tried to strangle palpatine before realizing it wouldn’t change anything. Would have been a much better final scene for him
James Merkle Padme should’ve chilled on Alderaan with Leia for a year being hidden by Bail Organa then get killed by Sidious’ goons as to A) live up to Leia’s speech in ROTJ and B) not tell Vader she is alive
I still remember getting chills from seeing Darth Vader's mask being put into place and then the breathing started.... Damn! And I even remember people laughing in the theater when Yoda knocks down the two Imperial guards in the Emperor's office Lol
@@paddyharrigan1530 People that say that are such casuals. If you actually watch the scene, it's almost 80 percent good or great from a technical combat point, meaning that the attacks and movements actually had weight and meaning.
I'm gonna say it. The anakin and obi wan dual at the ending of this movie is the best lightsaber dual in the entire saga. These are jedi KNIGHTS. You want them to have some serious swordsmanship. Shoot me but in the original trilogy it just looks like 2 guys swinging swords.
The problem with the dual was that it felt like a ballet recital than an actual fight. Despite luke and Vader's fight not looking as choreographed, you could feel the impact of every blow. It also told a etter story with the expressions, the pauses etc... Anakin and Obi Wan's fight didn't feel real
Vincent 2099 except it was lol. The reason why Vader’s and Luke’s fight looked that way was because 1.) Luke was not a trained fighter and 2.) the technological limitations of the early 80’s.
thanks man, im agree with you, jedi knight battle or even lightsaber battle should be like episode 3, remember they are jedi knight n they know the flow of the force so they dont use brute strengh in battle, im actually like why they look like dance when in battle because they use the force to be aware of their surrounding, thats what make jedi knight and sith so fearfull, if you want mere lighsaber swing just give lighsaber to mere human, in the hand of jedi and sith lightsaber became nightmare weapon, can you imagine mere human block laser from droids? exactly
Actually (and I think it's even canon)- it was explained that Palpatine looked like this because of the dark side and that the lightning just destroyed his disguise.
that's what I always assumed, but I wish it was a little more explicit. there should have been earlier scenes where we see that face and wonder what the fuck we're looking at, and then he turns around to address someone and looks normal. and then in this scene, both mace windu and anakin should have been horrified to see him.
Why? If you went to a restaurant and got a bad meal, you would criticise the chef and it would be deserved. If you do a bad job, then take the criticism and make yourself better.
LobsterPuncher big difference between criticism and straight up harassment though. Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran wouldn’t delete their online presence because of some criticism, that was pure harassment
11:31 If you watch Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode 3 it shows a sketch of they're vision of 'What if Palpatine realised what happened to his face' and it's hilarious.
Dalek44 palpatine: If you acted ten seconds earlier, we could have ruled the galaxy and I would have gotten laid one last time before I die! xD love it
The way the Obi-Wan vs Anakin fight should've went: -Anakin forces chokes out Padme. -He and Obi-Wan begin their fight, which happens entirely on the landing pad that it started on. -Every time there's an opening to land a killing blow, Obi-Wan hesitates, not wanting to harm his best friend. -Anakin takes advantage of these hesitations and tries to retaliate. -Obi-Wan barely dodges one of these hits, taking him out of the fight but still alive. -Anakin savours his victory and announces his new empire before attempting the final strike. -A shot is heard and Anakin's face grimaces. He turns around and sees that Padme, with tears in her eyes, had shot him in the back. -Now fully consumed by the dark side, he feels nothing but anger as he makes his way to his former love to kill her. -Just in time, Obi-Wan Force Throws his lightsaber, severing Anakin's arm. At the same time, Padme fires another desperate laser blast in self-defense, which grazes and scars Anakin's face. -Anakin screams in agony, Padme falls to her knees in shock, and Obi-Wan limps away full of grief.
I liked the way Anakin turned to Vader but here is what I would've liked it to be: The Jedi Order realizes that Anakin and Padme are married, they confront Anakin in his home. (that apartment like place where Padme and Anakin lives )Mace Windu and 4 other Jedi tell Anakin that Jedi are not allowed to love, Anakin pleads for mercy but the Jedi Order refuses and they make them separate against his and hers will. Anakin had enough, he was first not allowed to be a Jedi Master, he was told to spy on Palpatine, and now Padme and him were separated. Anakin refuses for this to happen and gets angry, he turns on his Lightsaber and duels Mace, and the 4 other Jedi. Anakin knocks 3 Jedi out by throwing a big metal thingy at them (IDK what he threw, maybe a statue of Yoda) And force chokes one other thus realizing he has new powers, Sith like. He and Mace duel in Anakin's home, Padme watches. Anakin goes all out, using every skill he has with a Lightsaber, then he cuts Mace's hand off, and
+kar muts Mace gets thrown out off the Windu (Ha get it? No?) Anakin just realizing what he done, he leaves his home and goes to Palpatine for help. Palpatine notices something wrong with Anakin and he asks why. Anakin is nervous, so he keeps quiet. Then Palpatine decides to tell the Story of Darth Plagueis and tells them about how he can save lives and not himself blah blah.. He also tells Anakin that HE knows the force, even the Dark Side. Palpatine (just like how he says it in the actual movie) tells Anakin to join the Dark Side of the force so he can protect or save Padme. Then Anakin is thinking in his head "screw the Jedi man, they don't trust me, they don't even want me to have a life man screw them, dark side gangster is where it's at". Then Palpatine does he is Darth Vader blah blah, Order 66, blah blah, kill younglings, eat Jedi burger blah blah... IDK, I'm not sure if my story even made sense, :P
@@dutchvanderlinde5218 Maybe, maybe not..but you could also say Revenge Of The Sith is the only good Prequel. The difference is The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker, despite being far from perfect, are still better than The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones..those first two Prequel Trilogy movies are damn near unwatchable cringefests, snoozefests, and CGI filled slop.
Jake Tibbs What are you talking about. George Lucas came to my house and burned all my copies of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Then to snuff the fire he peed on the ashes. So I don't remember anything from that show.
Jake Tibbs Considering everything outside of the main trilogies ----except the Clone Wars movie and show/Rebels---- is not canon as deemed by Disney, it is technically the first time.
Honestly my favourite scene of any star wars movie was when Obi Wan confronts Anakin, I thought hayden actually did a pretty good job in his line delivery and the scene had so much climactic emotion. “You will not take her from me!” “You have done that yourself.”
When anakin turned after windu died, I thought it was very well done. The way anakin said “I’ll do anything you asked.” It sounded desperate and he sounded broken
@@williamcronshaw5262 That's how I always saw it. Anakin killed a Jedi Master to save a Sith Lord, pretty much the top ranked Jedi Master. He always hated the Jedi Council, so instead of trying to wonder whether he should repent and put himself at the mercy of the Council, he instead picks to choose the one option he has left and the one option that he thinks will save his wife. After Windu's death, it was basically the only choice he had, he knew even Obi Wan, his dear friend, would not forgive him after betraying the Jedi Order. I always saw it as a "no turning back now" moment and it was likely something Anakin knew was a possible outcome after thinking about Padme's foreseen death when sitting alone in the Council chambers.
@@Vajrapani108 chosen one or not, leaving some one that powerful and thst emotional to fend for themselves is pretty idiotic. Especially for 2 high ranking Jedi.
Senna Jordan My hands was going faster than my head. I meant to post average to good writer and fantastic story teller. There was some ok writing, but he doesn't like to write with others, that killed 1-3.
People also laughed in the theater I was at Vader's Nooooooo scene. Hell, I was one of them. The scene was great up to that point. A lot of tension, then all of a sudden that goofy cartoon Nooooooooo. Just killed it.
lil steez No, Lukes single yell of horror was way more convincing of a display of horror and fear and more rational due to the circumstances. Hell, it had better acting than almost all of the prequels.
Mr. Guy Productions no it didn’t it was awful that’s why it’s been parodied so many times all the no’s were equally awful. And as for the acting in the prequels it was hardly better in the originals both had bad dialogue and bad acting it’s just people only cares about great acting and dialogue when the prequels came out when the originals was just as bad. Infact the best acting in any of Star Wars is from Ewan and Ian in the prequels simple as. The only bad shit in the prequels was anakin and padme their dialogue and acting sucked atleast together. They were fine with other characters.
Mine as well, followed by Empire. TFA is a worse rehash of ANH, and TLJ is just a high-budget horribly made fanfic. There are literally millions of people that could have done a better job than Rian Johnson did.
I will agree the light saber battles seem choreographed but that always made complete sense to me. If you can anticipate everything your opponent is going to do in a battle it would look much more like a dance and the strikes and blocks wouldn't be emotional as every thrust and parry (for the most part) would be fully expect by both parties. A battle between 2 masters of the force really would become more a game of chess or luck based probability then emotion, anger or passion. In this way I think the lava battle was actually spot on.
Or that there was a senate meeting where Palpatine was explaining why he is now emperor of the universe going on at the exact time Obi One was viewing the security footage... So Obi could show the whole senate the footage, expose Palpitine as an evil Sith Lord and prevent the empire from happening.
The Dashboard Pretty sure he wanted to mention how there's security footage of Palpatine being evil or something and how we only get this footage when it's too late. I remember some mention of it in the RLM review of this movie.
ROTS is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time. And that Obi Wan vs Anakin duel was so amazing too. Oder 66 was also a great scene. Idc what people say about this movie it's not going to change my opinion
I enjoy ROTS more then the rest of the prequels but those lightsaber duels didn’t age well in any film except TPM. Especially in ROTS, they aren’t even aiming for each other. Everyone is just aiming for the lightsaber.
I think that Palpatine is a face-shifter to some degree, because using the dark side is supposed to change your skin and make your eyes yellow. It's the only logical explanation, lightning wouldn't make his eyes yellow, he used his transformation to trick Anakin into thinking he was deformed. But that is his real look. I think this is only implied in the movie, but most dark side users have yellow eyes.
It's also suggested Palpatine has the ability to see the future to a degree(perhaps the main reason he didn't get caught out earlier). He knew Anakin was fighting Obi-Wan on Mustapha in advance. He puts on a big smile when he finally gets to Suit-Up Anakin.... So yeah, he had the Vader suit ready to go. Limited power, after all the Ewoks beat the shit out of his forces in Jedi, but still some power to use the force to predict likely outcomes.
Indeed. The Dark Side corrupts the flesh. The more powerful one is with the dark side, the more deformed one becomes. Makes sense that Sidious, being supposedly the most powerful Sith who ever lived, is extremely deformed. He just used some Sith alchemy to look normal, but that fucked-up face was his real look.
This is a great movie. People like to down play it because it's part of the "prequel trilogy" but it really holds up well and I have it was my second favorite Star Wars movie.
Best prequel by far. But I do think the same thing happen with the OT. Return of the Jedi is a much weaker film than the first two, but this gets ignored because it is part of the OT.
I actually like how choreographed the duel on mustifar is. It's like that because they've known each other so long they know every move and trick of each other, and therefore makes sense. All in all i think episode III is a really good film, maybe even better than episode VI
Trent O The problem is that it’s so OVER choreographed. If you look closely, you see they’re swinging at each other’s lightsabers not AT each other. The fight is so dense it makes my eyes roll to the back of my head.
roto fiery Yeah the fight wasn’t the most entertaining thing to watch, but unlike Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope has so many other things going for it, good characters, simple yet effective story, etc.
roto fiery Nope. Episode One had no good characters, except maybe Obi-Wan but he did absolutely nothing until he had to “kill” Maul. Qui-Gon was boring as hell, young Anakin was annoying, Padme was also so goddamn boring, and I’m not even going to talk about Jar-Jar. Episode Two may be worse. Anakin is so creepy and annoying that he doesn’t come across as a human being. His dialogue and acting is so botched that I can’t buy him as an actual character. And Ewan McGregor does great with what he’s given, but he’s not given anything that good. Like Anakin, Obi-Wan doesn’t feel like a real human being with actual thoughts or emotions. He feels like Ewan McGregor reading a script. I have the same complaints with Episode Three in terms of characters. But the worst part of the Prequels is that Obi-Wan and Anakin’s friendship isn’t believable. They barely talk in Episode One. They are either arguing or separated in Episode Two, and in Episode Three, we get only like twenty minutes of them pretty shouting at the audience that they’re best friends, when no one buys it. Then Obi-Wan goes off on his mission and then an hour later he’s forced to fight Anakin, and the fight isn’t emotional because, again, their friendship wasn’t believable so I didn’t care when they were forced to fight. There were small hints in the Prequels where they had to TELL the audience they were friends by alluding to past adventures that we never saw, their friendship was all built off-screen and it’s hard for the audience to care about something we don’t get to see.
Khalil Yepez not always. First Star Wars fans say “oh the novelizations don’t count!” But now it is, okay, sure, whatever. And also, it was just the author trying to make some sense of George Lucas’ fuck up.
Brandon no because at that point the only people who knew was him and Anakin. So he could of easily just changed back whenever he went to speak before the senate about the “Jedi rebellion” and no one would’ve knew. So he was definitely disfigured.
Obi-Wan’s emotional anguish over Anakin’s turn after their duel was done really well. Much better than Padme saying “Anakin, you’re breaking my heart”.
@@lancelorio1067 None of the movies informs the viewer he used a "force mask". Expanded Universe stuff may be fun, but are not part of the cinematic experience.
Attack of the Clones should've been Episode I with parts of the plot of Phantom Menace incorporated to introduce the characters and the fall of the Republic, the 2003 Clone Wars should've been Episode II, and this movie stays the same. There's how you perfect prequel trilogy.
Bro thought the same exact thing while rewatching the whole PT+2003 CW this month. Episode II should've ended with that battle between Anakin and Asajj in Yavin IV and Grievous introduction killing those Jedis.
That's just a part of how you perfect the prequels. You also get a better director and get a real human to re-write the dialogue. Lucas may have major flaws, but he still knows how to write an imaginative space opera that inspires countless other content around his movies.
The Humanity I think it’s funny though because I always have heard the hate for the prequels because of the acting dialogue bad cgi whatever but imo the originals had dialogue that was just as bad at times just less and the acting wasn’t incredible either. I think Ian and Ewan put in the best acting performances in any of the Star Wars films. The prequels had the right story and characters just bad execution. I enjoy menace but the story was weak and attack of the clones was a major disappointment. It was the clone wars and we saw nothing but bad romance and a boring story. Only good scenes in clones are anakins moms death and the lightsaber battle at the end. Revenge I love because it was epic. But the originals had a lot of the same criticisms the prequels had just less of it. Ot fanboys can be crazy though they love boba fett even though he’s nothing special and they probably think jango fett is shit when he was way better guy took out Jedi lol.
Attack of the Clones is still a pretty bad movie - his mother dying was probably the most important characterization for Anakin and it took up a few minutes out of the 200+ minute runtime.
No problem. I like bad works of fiction all the time. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging something is not that great ad enjoying it all the same. I'm currently reading Chris chan's Sonichu because it's so bad, it's kind of funny.
I know right? Look I'm not a fan of Star Wars I got to admit.. I don't really enjoy the old ones and don't like AT ALL what Disney is doing now (you maybe can tell I hate Disney buying and getting it's hands in franchises or brands).. I don't really like one and two either but I really REALLY like episode 3.. I love it becouse it's dark like HUMAN MESSED UP BRUTAL THINGS HAPPEN DARK. I know that has some silly dialog too but doesn't have the amount of silliness that the previous two had AT ALL in comparisson. RotS is the only SW film I really like and enjoy and it pisses me off that people hate it so much, I know that probably the amount of people that gives it hate are like 90% original trilogy faggots FOR SURE but MAAAN.. this movie receives a lot more crap that it really deserves.. (and c'mon people hating the dialogs as if the old films didn't had corny scenes too)
Anakins & Obi-Wan lightsaber duel is one the best dues in all of Star Wars, seeing them fight period was tense since we've seen how much they cared for each other in the past. George Lucas way of writing is great he let's us know how all characters really feel in other movies sometimes directors don't let us know & we have to make our own assumption that might be wrong or misleading.
I think Natalie Portman's face looked different in the balcony scene because it had something to do with her also working on V for Vendetta around the same time.
I think what you didn’t understand is George Lucas intentionally made anakins lines dramatic like “you will not take her from me” because he’s trying to create a sense of inner conflict with himself and frustration.
Vegans are dumb for me this is tied with a new hope, but I think it is a good movie and I don't care what anyone says. The first 20 minutes is already better than 1 and 2
Revenge of the Sith wasn't the first time we hear Yoda's theme. It plays in Attack of the Clones when Yoda saves Obi-Wan and Anakin from that falling piece of machinery.
I was 17 when this came out and I saw it in theaters 20 times. I would have gone more but my mother found out I had gotten suspended from school for a few days several weeks back and I found myself grounded :(
I always interpreted Palpatine's trasformation as him revealing his true form. Like, his normal face was just a mask he used to hide in plain sight. I assumed he used the force to maintain the disguise. It melted away during the fight because he needed the force energy to keep fighting. Lightning would not do that to his skin anyway.
My favorite scene is when Mace gets thrown out the windu.

+John Yes. Now leave me alone.
Not to mention Palpatine also fed her life force to Anakin in order to keep him alive long enough to repair him.
Bad direction too. The delivery of his lines were also terrible for the most part. Especially “I HATE YOU!!!”
It’s a combination of all of the above. And yes. He’s a terrible actor. Show me evidence of otherwise.
I was rewatching them in preparation for episode 9 and I also thought Palpatine killed her. Cuz then how would he know that she's dead
Brad Bell How would you have said it?
It’s really George Lucas’ fault for telling him how to deliver the lines.
Josef Hautala Also the higher ground bullshit. 15 minutes of lightsabre battle and all you need to win is to step on a slope before the opponent?
Adam " had chills listening to them describing Hayden's acting and line delivery ". I think you're the first person to ever complement Hayden Christiansen's acting.
TheMrBugio Are you knowledgable battle tactics?
*****
He was using Bonetti's defense, Anakin should have attacked with Capa Ferro.
Patrick Garvey agreed. thats how i always viewed that fight too. just wish theres was more dialogue
Patrick Garvey Nah.
Patrick Garvey
I agree, I very much liked the action between the two.
I disagree with the ending. I thought the ANAKIN vs. Obi-wan was the best/most emotional scene in star wars
It was. Period.
I loved them so seeing there battle on the big screen blew my mind. Luke vs Vader in return I also loved
Alex Zhoff yikes

Omar Gillespie I bet you think the guards vs kylo and Rey in last Jedi was good aswell lmao
there's actually a theory that Padme died because Palpatine used the life-saving technique to siphon her life into Anakin's.
***** yep. Not saying if it's true or false, but it's a more interesting story than dying of a broken heart, AND it makes sense with the lore.
I agree on most points, however:
- Anakins turn to the dark side makes sense to me.
@Knavire At least they don't kill innocent people.

Finally someone who voiced the weird looking Natalie Portman in that scene!! I've been thinking that since 2005. Thank you Chris you saved my sanity.
Basically just Portman with out her make up on.
No, that’s just Chris making a silly observation that doesn’t relate to anything.

Michael Perez Yeah blooper
Mikeylangelo always thought calling kids younglings was so stupid and pretentious. George Lucas dropped the ball with dialogue throughout the whole series but seemed to really amplify it for the later made movies.
xD
The beauty of the first three is the practical effects. the scene where padme's dying because she "lost the will to live" and then the childbirth being intercut with the death of anakin was supposed to show that palpatine was sapping padme's life force in order to save anakin's life. just moments after padme's death, when darth vader stands up, palpatine tells him that padme was dead, and there was no other possible way for him to know that she was dead while being that far away unless he was the one behind it. why else would he introduce the tale of darth plagius the wise and the ability to stop those you love from dying?
I can't remember where i saw it, but i saw a review on youtube that delved deeper into this idea but i can't remember what it was called or who the uploader was.
I remember seeing this idea first in CinemaWins Everything Great about ROTS
That is crazy! If that actually is the truth of what happened, the entire ending of ROTS makes so much more sense.
It may have been Star Wars Theory. He’s made a bunch of excellent and compelling videos.
this theory has a great weakness. palpatine must have known about anakin's children if he had access to padme's life force. he most likely didnt know. anakin strangulating padme left bad injuries on her body and soul. i think palpatine told truth at that point. anakin killed padme knowingly or unknowingly.
Thats an AMAZING idea sadly not what we get in the movie!!!!
The reason Sidious dosen't react to his face is because he always looked like that. He was using force ventriloquy to disquise his force corruption.
EG Productions What? Where does it say that? In the animation??

I wish instead of yelling “NOoOo” at the end Vader tried to strangle palpatine before realizing it wouldn’t change anything. Would have been a much better final scene for him
James Merkle Padme should’ve chilled on Alderaan with Leia for a year being hidden by Bail Organa then get killed by Sidious’ goons as to A) live up to Leia’s speech in ROTJ and B) not tell Vader she is alive

The best defensive and best offensive duelists in their prime, of course it should look choreographed.

Tech4All but there is no emotional depth or weight to the blows like there was in the Return of the Jedi fight
Blorgus I disagree fully anakins eyes in that fight he’s hating ob1 more and more when he chokes him you see the anger.
Rooney Exactly my point
@@travismccutchan3144 it's not that he didn't realize it, it's that the fight wasn't executed to look like that
Vincent 2099 except it was lol.

The way the Obi-Wan vs Anakin fight should've went:
-Anakin forces chokes out Padme.
I love it. This is a great fight
I liked the way Anakin turned to Vader but here is what I would've liked it to be:
The Jedi Order realizes that Anakin and Padme are married, they confront Anakin in his home.
Anakin goes all out, using every skill he has with a Lightsaber, then he cuts Mace's hand off, and
+kar muts
Mace gets thrown out off the Windu (Ha get it?

Honestly my favourite scene of any star wars movie was when Obi Wan confronts Anakin, I thought hayden actually did a pretty good job in his line delivery and the scene had so much climactic emotion. “You will not take her from me!” “You have done that yourself.”
Even the way he said it, you could tell he was still trying to somewhat restrain himself from absolutely losing it.
When anakin turned after windu died, I thought it was very well done. The way anakin said “I’ll do anything you asked.” It sounded desperate and he sounded broken
Brandon Mitchell 🤔
I think it was more a realization with what he just did, he cannot go back to the Jedi. So he says "fuck it, I might as well try and save my wife."

@@seanoconnor5730 probably a correct opinion :P
Padme “Anni you killed younglings”
Annikan “I don’t like sand”
Ps: I actually liked the movie for the most part.
So, what was it that you wanted to point out about the security hologram? I think I missed that.
MrBWhite88 Yeah, he never got back to that.
I think he was going to talk about how they are watching footage from palpatine's office when they are on the jedi temple
He never went back
ROTS is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time. And that Obi Wan vs Anakin duel was so amazing too. Oder 66 was also a great scene. Idc what people say about this movie it's not going to change my opinion
No it won't it's also didn't change my opinion neither actually I love the prequels more than TLJ and SOLO.
I enjoy ROTS more then the rest of the prequels but those lightsaber duels didn’t age well in any film except TPM. Especially in ROTS, they aren’t even aiming for each other. Everyone is just aiming for the lightsaber.
Abram Sullivan Solo was a standalone anthology film...
@@patsfan4life ok but I don't really care
Abram - Strange TLJ and Solo are much superior films than the first two prequels.
I just love Anakin’s slow decent into frustration and darkness in the Clone Wars series.
Unfortunately it backtracked episode 2 back when he had already fallen
This is a great movie. People like to down play it because it's part of the "prequel trilogy" but it really holds up well and I have it was my second favorite Star Wars movie.
It's not, I'm sorry but nostalgia aside it's not. The acting is so cringe in many parts, and just dead bland in others
Trent O
The problem is that it’s so OVER choreographed. If you look closely, you see they’re swinging at each other’s lightsabers not AT each other. The fight is so dense it makes my eyes roll to the back of my head.
@@jm-ul4jt just like obi wan vs vader that fight is so boring

@@jm-ul4jt facts but the prequels also had good characters if you watched the the clone wars 08 version
roto fiery
Nope.
Palpatine is not disfigured, that's actually his appareance, he used an illusion to appear normal
martin2cold hahahahahahahahahahhahahuuhuhhuhhuuhuhjqeuyhfhsbeuuwge NO Disney says nopeeeeeeee
IantoddusSardus How do you know this?
He was disfigured.

Except for the part where you still have to watch this and attack of the clones.
You want to fix the prequels? Let Tartakovsky tell the whole story.
