Absolutely. Some videos give the misconception that the project is simple. When in reality, there are avoidable pitfalls. This demonstrates her intelligence and problem solving capabilities.
Your video was very helpful, as I am considering the purchase of the Cinch. It helped to see the "trials" along side the success....so that I see how to experiment in order to get the perfect finish. Well done video....Thanks for sharing.
Thank-you Lisa, In past videos I've edited the 'errors' out, but for some reason, I thought I'd share them this time. Glad it shows that sometimes you do have to experiment to get things right.
Great video Emma thanks for making such a comprehensive review of this machine. I'm looking to buy a binding machine and very confused over all the choices and whether to go manual or electric.. after looking at many options (electrics up to £200 budget) this machine looks very flexible and very reasonably priced at around £60-£70. I like that it can do up to 400 page documents, 20 sheet punches at a time, and you have the flexibility of square and round holes, wire or plastic comb binding.
I am thinking of purchasing this product. Thank you for doing this video, it was very helpful. Is it possible to use the plastic spirals to bind it together?
Nice video. I just saw an older video from Ellen Bee called "Cinch Tutorial A Few Tips For The Novice" & she shows a easy way to center a project that's a unique size: she folds a piece of trial paper in 1/2 unfolds it, lines her center fold up with the center mark on the machine & it comes out perfectly. I wonder if this would've helped in what you were trying to do without using the little buffer - although that seemed to work too. Thanks
Oo, thank you CraftyMama, I will have to go and look that one up, as my method was a bit fiddly, but like you say it did get the job done once I'd worked it out.
Love the fact you're from the UK so I'd know what to expect if I bought these (America and their frickin' inches). Had no idea half-letter paper and A5 weren't exactly the same measurements. Will save me a lot of hassle. Cheers! :)
Really nice to see how you get to know your Cinch and use it for that great-looking journal! - If I may give you one tip - it works even better if you put the pages for the inside on the wire first, then add the front of the book (your cardstock cover) THEN the back cover (right sides touching with the front cover). In this way, the spiral opening (where the prongs of the wire touches each other after you cinch it) is on the back and inside of the book, giving you a very smooth outer spiral binding that you can't 'catch' anything on. See what I mean for example in Heidi Swapp's tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/RsUYDwGl1yE/видео.html at around 6:05 - hope this makes your books even better!!
I found your video well thought out and kind of charming. I learned from it and I thank you for making it. I hit subscribe....because who knows what else you'll make!!
Thank you Tamantha, indeed there is always something going on in my head that I want to share. Currently working on a bigger project that is taking time to do but hoping to have it done in the next week.
I have tried over three times to get the first wire loop to look like the rest of the loops once bound. The one at the top squeezes together and doesn't have the space between the loop like the rest. Does anyone else have this problem or have any solutions please. I have wasted so much wire trying to figure this out.
I literally can NEVER get the wires to close properly even though I'm highly experienced and follow the directions exactly. Quite frankly, no demonstration takes the time to show up close how to close the wires. How much overhang of the one shape should there be? I can't tell at this point if it's just a bad machine, bad wires, me, or what. I always set the tension right. I never over or underfill, but I now have a graveyard of bent wires. I make do with some but at this point I'm thinking about going back to sewing in journals. Does anyone have a tutorial that focuses on the key closure part? Many thanks for any tips.
@@A.M.Independent.Consultant thanks. I did manage to find one and also found a place in Canada to purchase the O wires. My friends & I have made good use of it,
Did you ever find a bigger coil to use for your planner? I am curious to know if you can use a spring coil on this instead of the ones you used. Have you tried to use a spring coil with the holes created by your machine?
Hi there I have just bought one of these machines on Ebay. There are no instructions with it. Your video was a great help. Do you know where i could get a copy of the user manual? Has anyone got one they could copy and send to me? Also where do you buy your wires?
Hi Christine, I have had a look around and can't seem to find a manual you could download. Maybe try contacting the company direct using this link - wermemorykeepers.wordpress.com/contact-us/ I've got my wires from Amazon use this link to have a look at what is available. - www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Cinch+binding+wires
Can you please explain how to use the Cinch if your page has a fraction, for example what if it's 7 3/4 height? I couldn't find any suggestions in the manual, and only one video. Please help if you can. Thanks
I think the best way to get around it is to have scrap paper cut to the same size as your finished project and play with the distances of the holes first. I was using UK size A5 paper so that's why I resorted to using a buffer against the guide once I worked out where I wanted to place the holes. Stick with the scrap until you are totally happy and just don't give up. I've since used A4 paper and had to work it out all over again.
countrybunkin 1974 not a tip exactly, but there is definitely a technique to it. I find I have to wiggle them a little to get them to 'let go'. Sometimes I've found just lowering the handle while you pull the pegs can also help. 😉
Ah, that's a shame as it is a great bit of kit. It does, however, take a little practice, when every project is different I have to spend a little time trying to figure out measurements. Thank you also for the love of the Beagle pillow, I'm proud to say I made it, many years ago now, but it is still a favourite of mine. ;-)
Hi Ann, good question. I think the short answer is no, due to the binding wires only being 12inches long. Although you can punch holes in a piece of paper longer than 12inches and you can keep going with the punch as there are no restrictions. If you are maybe threading the pages together with ribbon then this wouldn't be an issue. With regards to adding pages, I do it all the time just pulling the wire apart with my fingers, re-arrange the pages and cinch it back up. Hope this helps.
Lovely journal!!! There is an easier way to do this - just find the CENTER of your side and use the ARROW on the front of the machine to make sure it all lines up proper. I just about died when you punched through the corners, I would have left them alone myself
Hi Gingergargoyle, Thank you for the tip. With hindsight and now having played with the Cinch more, I would definitely leave the corners alone, it did ruin the finish a bit. Maybe next years planner will have to be an update video. ;-)
Bit confused I've watched loads of videoes on the cinch and no one has used a buffer and all got equal holes both ends, I've just recieved mine so been watching loads before I dive in 😂
The buffer (end of a bamboo skewer) was purely because the cover to the diary overhung the inner pages by a couple of millimetres. So I needed the buffer to push the cover over a little for the cover holes to match the inner. There's probably a way to judge it using the attached guide, but the buffer worked best for me.

so I know this video was some time ago but thank you. I was stuck on the holes lining up and finally found your video which explained it!
Thank you for including the whole process. Including the authentic hurdles. This has been very helpful.
I like how you leave in your little mishaps so you can see what to expect/prepare for if you'd try out a machine like that. Thanks! 💖
Thank you +DanteLlor I like to show things are not always smooth sailing and that you have to persist. Glad you enjoyed.

Great job improvising! It looks beautiful!

You certainly make it look easy!

I think you are supposed to put the back page then the front page then other pages so you don’t see the join. Great video

Great video but how do u clean out all the little bits in the machine.
Oh I see thank u
Great thanks. I really like that you also shown the mistakes. You learn a lot from them :)

That was very helpful, now if only I can find out where to purchase the cinch😏.
Purchased mine on sale from hobby lobby yesterday

Whats the track that starts playing at 6:01 ?
Hi Biswa D, it's Believer by Silent Partner. It's a royalty free track available here on the RUclips Creator Studio.
Thanks Emma !

Very helpful it’s my first try thanks be safe
I absolutely love crafty ladies. You are too cute.
do you have any tips on how to make the pegs a little loose, mine are so tight and hard to push and pull.

can you use this machine for spiral binding too?
Hello Uttam Tirunagari, this machine cannot be used with spiral binding.
How did you print the pages? Did you create them yourself?
Great tutorial!
How much would that cost that machine
New subbie! I think if I'd seen your tutorial first, I would not have returned it. :-) Also, LOVE your beagle pillow! (And beagles in general). :-)

Can you bind something longer than 13 inches? Also, can you easily add more pages later, after the wire has been closed? Thank you.

Does it make rectangular holes?
Sesyonista Acoustic Unfortunately not just round holes. 😏
Thanks for replying. I think the Heidi Swapp version punches rectangular holes. I'm thinking of which one to buy.
Awesome job!!

Wow 👏
your pages are mis punched. Your wholes are cut off at the end of the pages which does not look good
