      Slavery existed in every civilization before history began to be recorded. Be proud that America was one of the first countries to abolish it. There are some countries in Africa who hadn't abolished it until the 90s!
      Also those African slaves that ended up in America were a lot luckier than those owned by Islamic slavers. They castrated all male slaves and made females their concubines. That is why you don't find a large African former slave population in Islamic countries.

    If anyone has two parents who have both earned a Ph. D from University of California, Berkeley, that person definitely has an upper-middle to upper class background. Thus, when looking at Kamala Harris' background, it's also important to take into consideration class as well as race differences that the Democratic Party has historically emphasized. Accordingly, Ms. Harris may not have "white privilege", but she certainly had the upper-middle to upper-class privilege.

A white neighbor went to prison after he tried to run me down with his car when I was 5, playing with my cousin on my family's property.
      My brother holds an MBA and had to sell his house last year after white neighbors started following him on his morning jog demanding him to prove he lived in the neighborhood.

    • @RenegadeShepard69
      @RenegadeShepard69 4 года назад +8

      Yup. After all if we let race be defined racism for any longer it's not really going to change. My opinion is people saying things like in this that "unfortunately they're still seen as different the 'society' " are subconsciously supporting the racist caste system of their society. It's not that the opposite of being focused on race or making things a "race thing" is to be "color-blind" but is to acknowledge that in reality skin color is not what's holding people back the most, more than race,, it's not the white wall of white supremacy is the green wall of impoverished non whites in America. Kamala, Obama, etc. Are a dime in a dozen, because of their families' affluence. The richer the person the less stigmatized they get. And that is why I think that acknowledging race as "unfortunately still a thing nowadays" in the slightest is embracing and agreeing with white supremacist lunatics who have way too much power in the minds of the American people.
      The way Race works in the USA is a racist concept which the public views as a counter to white supremacy but is actually working in support of it. Just like with the bipartisan elections, the USA always manages to keep the status quo under control.

    Race is not purely a social construct....it is definitely connected to genetics and skin color. Kamala Harris has chosen to identify as black only to get black votes and so she can claim she belongs to a victimised group rather than a privileged Asian Indian upper middle class origin. Her mother brought her up, she had virtually no contact with her dad. Her mother was a Tamil Brahmin and Brahmins are the most privileged group among Tamils and South Indians in general. Tamil Brahmins are among the elite in South India, both because of their Brahmin status and their higher educational and financial credentials. But Kamala rarely talks about her Brahmin descent. In India caste is more important than just ethnicity and Brahmins are the highest caste.

      But America is not color blind, or capable to overcome prejudices or biases.
      So here we go again.

    • @philzmusic8098

      I beg to differ. Skin color is determined by a tiny percentage of our genes. There are far more important genetic differences, such as those that determine facial bone structure, or prevalence of certain diseases. Ethiopians are a Semitic people-; that 's why their noses are aquiline, not flat. One of Sri Lanka's ethnic groups have coal black skin, darker than any African's, yet they have no genetic connection with Africans. Climate is a big factor: ethnic groups who live in tropical climes, or have ancestors who did, have darker skin because melanin protects against the sun.
      If you start at equatorial Africa and head north, people's skin color lightens imperceptibly, reaching Mediterranean olive skin to north European pinkish white skin to Finnish skin, which can be literally white. So if skin color defines "race," there are thousands of races, and the term loses any meaning.

      To be honest it's much the same for European immigrants to America. The first generation or two are often specified by country, but past that it blurs into generic European American, or as we usually call it "white" or just "American".

Im just sick of the race card used to whatever advantage that will make headlines or votes. It would be refreshing to have people get a job, because they earn it and have incredible character. Regardless what race.

Claiming blackness makes you a victim? So, if Barak said he was white, how would that have gone over? LOL Obama and Kamala can't identify with the non-black parent because American society won't allow them. Obama can't go around saying he's white because he doesn't look it. Neither can Kamala go around saying she's Indian because she also doesn't look like an Indian woman. If either one of them did, they'd be put in their place immediately! Especially in their generation. They chose to identify with being black because that's what society sees and treats them as such.

    ADOS/Black Americans or American descendants of slavery have a history in the USA that goes like this.. 250 years of chattel slavery, followed by 100 years of Jim Crow laws and wealth stealing practices the have left this PARTICULAR ETHNIC group wealthless. This PARTICULAR group has also dealt with redlining, black codes, debt peonage and countless lynchings and massacres. This PARTICULAR ETHNIC group worked for 250 years for free as slaves unable to gain wealth, read or write. Then after that for another 100 years this PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP had laws written SPECIFICALLY to keep them from gaining wealth, accessing benefits like the GI Bill, the Homestead Act which provided millions of acres of free land to US citizens, proper schools, neighborhoods, jobs etc. which has led to the massive racial wealth gap.
    Kamala Harris, while having the DNA of an African, she is not of this PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP. Her mother is a Brahmin Indian professional. She was a high earning woman from a top caste lineage. Brahmin Indians are basically the white people of India. Her father is part Jamaican from a slave trader lineage opposite that of ADOS and was also a high earning professional. Her life and family has not had the same set backs as those who are descendants of American Chattel slavery. It doesn't mean she is a bad person. It simply means she is not some miracle success story as she would be if she were ADOS. She is 1/4 "black" and born in America to affluent parents, but she is not ADOS/black American. Kamala has had anti ADOS policies her entire career. She is against reparations for ADOS. She has made a career locking up ADOS/Black Americans. She is not ADOS. She has always been considered Indian American but since ADOS/Black Americans are politically uneducated and vote mostly based on race, she is being advertised as Black American to garner the black vote. Calling her African American is misleading. She has a drop of African blood but as I mentioned there is much more to being African American/ADOS than blood

      It's interesting that Kamala seems to identify more with African American culture than she does the Caribbean cultures, particularly Jamaican culture. Her parents' divorce when she was a small child could explain this disconnection. In an interview, she stated that her mother learned everything she could about African American culture, so they would fit into American society.

      “Born in 1776, Hamilton Brown (a White man) came from Tullyloob, County Down, Ireland to Jamaica in order to earn his fortune. He came with his uncle, Alexander Hawthorne who became an attorney and found the young Hamilton a job as an estate bookkeeper for a new friend in Jamaica. Within a few years, Hamilton Brown had made a name for himself; buying and selling slaves and property. He would mortgage the property and before long owned more than 6 properties, each with a slave population. He lived in Saint Ann parish on the eastern side of Jamaica and represented the parish for 22 years in the House of Assembly of Jamaica. He founded Hamilton Town, which was later renamed Browns Town. He was a sugar planter and cattle breeder. He brought over 300 people from Balleymoney, County Antrim, Ireland to Saint Anne in a brig that he owned, but most were little more than white slaves unless they had specific skills. He was often criticized for his treatment of his slaves and workers. When he died in 1843 it is guessed that he had more than 30 children himself by different slave women, a common thing for slave owners in Jamaica. Although he never married, he left part of his property to his son Hamilton Brown Jr, a mulatto whose mother was Kate Williams, a Negro Ebo slave who was brought to Jamaica before 1832 when slavery was abolished in Great Britain” source: Ancestors of Hamilton Brown Slave Owner by Diana Muir - Author. It's just that the ship they were taken on stopped and sold them off a little bit sooner. They went through the atrocities of slavery in Jamaica instead of in the US.

    hmm- so you totally ignored her father's line? it is most interesting. and i have it. it is not at all what you assume since Chrishy was born to Mary Mulvaney Brown and Hamilton Brown. they were married btw. not at all unusual in Jamaica. maybe you need to do more research? Christiana, who they called Chrishy, was not illegitimate at all it seems. she was the daughter of Hamilton's second wife. they married -- yeah you heard that right- married- after his first wife Isabella died. so no, she wasn't a product of rape. she was a product of marriage. since both of his grandmothers, including Miss Iris Fenigan Christie were black- most likely Creole- then it seems his great grandfather had chosen a black woman as a wife the second time around. i don't know if his first two sons were white, but both his daughters were black.
    oh and another thing, Hamilton was Mary's second husband. she was married to a Brown before him, which is why her name is listed as Brown before she married him. i don't know what her maiden name was- it never showed up on anything I researched. but i am sure someone somewhere will find it.

      Thanks. Much closer to what I recall coming across. I know many issue oriented people, especially from California, who had much disdain for her actions as Attorney General. It was around the time word was out she was selected early 2016 by the big Dem donors, as not to run as Hillary's VP, but rather to be the next in line. My friends and co-workers were quick to squawk about her claims with respect to race. I did look at some articles by her father, around the time he publicly said something negative about her public statements. I was merely casually interested at the time. It was an easy find then.

      Sources for any of that?
      It doesn't really make sense though. The timeline is too short. The slave owner Hamilton Brown was obviously from the early 1800s, before slavery was abolished in Jamaica. He apparently died in 1843. He can't really have been Miss Chrishy's father, since she died in the early 60s, according to Donald Harris. There need to be at least one more generation - quite possibly more.
      According to Snopes, there was a second Hamilton Brown involved, who may be who you were looking at. They suggest that the Mary Melvina Brown who married that Hamilton Brown was the daughter of the slave owner Hamilton Brown. Still no direct link to Christiana though.
      The slave rape would have been a generation or two before Christiana, since it would have needed to be in the slavery days, which ended in Jamaica in the 1830s.
      Regardless of any of that and regardless of any documented ancestry, it's practically impossible to be Jamaican and black (or mixed) without having slaves in your ancestry - unless it's from known very recent African immigrants. The original African population was brought there as slaves and there was little voluntary immigration from Africa after that.

    An investigation into Kamala Harris’s ancestry raises significant questions about the accuracy of her claims. According to records presented, Harris’s paternal grandmother, Beryl, passed away in 1960, four years before Kamala was born. Despite this, Kamala included a photo in her 2019 book claiming to be with her grandmother, which appears misleading.
    Furthermore, Kamala’s portrayal of her racial heritage as primarily black is questionable. Her father, Donald Harris, grew up in Jamaica, but his ancestry traces back to Irish slave owners who owned over 1,000 slaves on their estate in Jamaica, known as Brownstown. This suggests a complex heritage that includes both Irish and black ancestry, rather than purely African descent.
    Additionally, inconsistencies in family records, such as missing marriage certificates and the inability to locate certain relatives, raise further doubts about the narrative presented. It is essential to critically examine these claims, especially when they shape public perception of a figure’s heritage and identity.

    "How society chooses to define them" is a difficult point because in this context society means "the aggregate of individual behavior" rather than formal rules from e.g. regulation, law, etc. So I would argue what you actually mean is a sort of average of how individuals respond to individuals who have specific physical traits. On one hand it's a small distinction, but on the other hand it's a huge distinction because it's relatively simple to change laws democratically, and enforcing rules about private interactions between individuals is something that can't or shouldn't be the purview of the State. Thank you for this video. I am a Biology teacher and have to explain this concept all the time. In Biological studies nobody talks about race. Even in purely genetic terms we as humans have far more in common with each other that our ethnicities might suggest. Those DNA testing companies mostly lie to you when they tell you that they can pinpoint your ethnicity or where you or your ancestors came from. Some groups that have very distinctive genetic anomalies that have perpetuated in close knit communities can be pinpointed, but that is not very common. It is rather silly that people get so hide bound about determining a persons ethnicity when really all human kind is just a continuum of similar genetic traits, the rest is just environment.

    Could you say that Black and White could be their own ethnicities? In the sense that Black people in the United States have ethnic ancestry from West Africa and Europe. So this combination, combined with the unique culture found in the United States, could make the argument that Black is its own ethnicity. The same could be said for Whites too as Whites in the United States are pretty much just a mixture of different European ethnic groups.
    You wouldn’t call an ethnic Frenchman White because chances are they would be 100% French and not a mixture of different European ethnic groups.

    Imagine the mental gymnastics required for someone to recognise the subtle genetic differences between neighboring, marginal ethnic groups - separated by a hill and probably a few hundred years of history - yet who can wilfully deny the existence of any genetic difference between geographic groupings of said ethnicities - separated by oceans, massive deserts and the literal millenia of human history necessary to find a common ancestor - genetic differences so distinct and obvious that one can easily discern them visually - no DNA test even required.

      That last part explains your flaw. Race in the modern day is shallow and unscientific. After all, you even laid out the fact that ethnicity is more nuanced and basically serves the same purpose as race. So why not just use that? The problem with race is that it is too fluid and broad to be a scientific categorization. Rather it serves as a social categorization; thus race is real but not scientific and is a social construct.
      In addition, the meaning of races change over time as it has been used to include some Jews and Middle Eastern peoples when they would definitely be seen as a different race in Ancient Rome or Greece. Race also changes based on cultures as well. For example, up until pretty recently in human history (about a hundred years back) native "Han" Chinese still considered Manchus to be an "other" even though from a Western perspective they were practically the same. And that's the thing some countries don't even use race because it's so arbitrary to call yourself Asian in a country like Malaysia or White in a country like Germany.

So their ethnic makeup doesn’t match a Black Americans. Also, the all Blacks have white blood from slavery; is partly true. The slave owners would be hundreds of years back in the family tree. slavery was over more than 250 years ago. Jamaican slave owners 4 generations back, means thats her family and heritage. it's most likely from intentional marriage. Slavery in Black Americans blood line is hundreds of years back.. not a couple of generations.

    But you can group ethnicity (or a major derivative of it), haplogroups diverge and splinter off from one another through mutations just like language trees. • @KateeAngel
      @KateeAngel 4 года назад

      Haplogroups describe 1% of genetic ancestry at best - the ones from purely female and purely male lines, all the other ancestral lineages are not described by haplogroups. Also, the same individual may have absolutely different results for mtDNA haplogroup and for Y-DNA haplogroup, if their all-male and all-female ancestries come from different populations. One may well be a 100% Western European by Y-DNA and 100% Native American by mtDNA (because those bits of DNA don't mish-mash in crossingover, so they all give you 100% result from one source).
      I believe there was a video with clearly black girl having a nasty response to a genetic company, which promised to tell her where her African ancestry comes from by studying only mtDNA, but her mtDNA turned out to be from British Isles. Because mtDNA literally contains only a tiny bit of your overall genetic ancestry. Plus, bold for them to assume that all black people have mtDNA lineages only from Africa

    • @Silver_Knee
      @Silver_Knee 4 года назад +1

      That seems kinda arbitrary. And I don't get how this would inform what race someone is.
      If a line of 3 generations of mother-daughter define the haplogroup of the last daughter of the line, but all the fathers in the picture came from a different haplogroup, that daughter would also have inherited many of their traits. Like, with a bit of bad luck, she may have none of the genes in common with her great grandmother.
