I actually hate Miner, but that's because I'm bad with the card. I think Gratz could've touched on the "skill' of the card a bit more in the video: 95% of the time when I lose to miner, the thought is "damn, he got me" because he caught me off the card rotation needed to deal with it, rather than "what a load of crap." Also, IMO you rarely feel hopeless against the miner itself because of the low damage, and there is always a way to counterplay the miner's chip, though it might be prediction-based and could leave you vulnerable to the synergy cards.
Goblin barrel: spawns 3 troops that can be placed anywhere in the arena => spell Miner: spawns a troop that can be placed anywhere in the area and has reduced tower damage just like spells => troop At first this confused me but from a technical standpoint this makes sense. The goblin barrel can be placed right on top of a tower. That’s the concept of the card. While the miner can only be placed at the side of one. If they would turn the barrel into a troop it couldn’t be placed directly on towers anymore.
Maybe the strange early buffs were just to make the card a little bit better as a temporary measure while people were still leveling it up. It was hella difficult back then and it took a long time.
I'd rather deal with Miner at its peak of strenght than Phoenix. Seriously, who thought making a Mega Minion that has more DPS/faster attack speed, summon a Giant Snowball without the slow on death and forces you to kill the egg with a spell the majority of the time when it dies on the opponent's side just for 1+ elixir by the way. And personally, when Phoenix first came out, I though it was a 7-elixir card just off the look of the card alone.

This is like a natural evolution to the Gratz video style; instead of focusing on the balance changes of the unit, Miner's unique history of balance carves a narrative of how he's changed the meta, instead of how the meta has changed him. Absolutely one of your best, Gratz

20:57 *this* A card's strength mostly stems from its versatility and win rate. Versatility is often overlooked as with the most prominent examples being the Miner -- which you've discussed here -- and the Log. The latter is almost was, and still is the most versatile of any card, with recent exceptions being the Phoenix and Monk meta and the Archers meta; it really has come to be an indication that a card is OP, when it nears Log's use rate. That's the reason that it comes to me as a surprise when a lot of casual players and even some pro players think that it's okay the way it is. It's not so versatile because it counters Log Bait, and other swarm bait; it's not because it has a knock-back; it's not because of the damage to towers before the nerf (it's almost as good after the nerf). It's versatile because it's all of those things: it deals 1.5 times the damage of other 2-elixir spells, has 2 times the area of impact, and has a special mechanic that knocks-back any ground troop (and that compensates well beyond the fact that it doesn't hit the few air troops in the game). That makes it strong, or at least usable in most decks (it even appeared in beat-down and bridge-spam some times even though it's not suited for that archetype), and that is the reason that it's so prominent in most cycle and siege decks. #nerfthelog
But supercell has always used spell as a counter to overpower cards and control the meta, so it's really hard to nerf the log without giving a massive rise to all the bait and swarm archetypes. You could say zap was nerfed then but back then it got wayyyy too meta defining with over 50% use rate in many cases, the log havent even reached 50% for once.
Miner is the best card in cr ever Y'all could argue for Tornado & Log though, but unlike Miner who pretty much never has a competition to steal his place, Tornado & Log at some point were competing with other cheap spells like Barb barrel, Zap, Snowball & Arrows So yeah, my top 3 greatest cr cards would be: 1. Congrats on the sponsor Gratz! I know must of us would roll our eyes at Raid Shadow Legends, but I'm happy you're making money off this youtube thing, you deserve it!
3:45 what this really means is “we were expecting this card to be op at launch and it wasn’t, hopefully this breaks the card.” Basically every legendary early on was released as a overpowered “use or lose” card as an incentive to buy super magical chests. I would argue they weren’t happy with the buff not doing enough, which would explain the deploy speed change following later.
Honestly the quality of these videos is through the roof. I would love to see an Xbow video, I used to use it as my main win con up till it got its fire speed reduction and now it's just....a shell of its former self
About the often mentioned vanilla state. Getting a 6% buff and later getting a 6% nerf is a nerf, because the later 6% are more than the first. If im wrong please tell me, but that is how i think it works
Technically it should, but I checked the health of a level 1 miner when it first came out and the health of a level 1 miner after the health reduction, and they’re both 1,000.
1.06(1000)=1060 0.94(1060)=996.4 It should have ultimately reduced the Miner's HP by 3 or 4 points but they might have just rounded it to 1000 for the purpose of re-standardizing interactions because the final discrepancy was so minute.
The goblin drill comment really does make sense. Drill was often played with inferno tower and valk and you would always use your spell in combination with the win condition
Gratz can you please do a video on the Valkyrie, Firecracker and the Princess.I really feel like these cards fall in the same territory of area control and would really love seeing you point out their similarities and how their presence affected each other. This was a really insightful video like always , 🙏. Ps. Nerf Miner.
The History of Princess is gonna be 2 minutes long. Used to be spell-resistant in 2016 but is now only relegated to Logbait. There it is, the entire history of the Princess.
Honestly I still think the miner nerf we got a while ago was unnecessary. Poison was the main reason it was so obnoxious, along with some support troops that allowed it to be unusually strong. Had we given it another couple of weeks given what changes were made, I think it would have been fine.
If it was unnecessary why is it still the most used win condition, I think the nerf was fair and it is more balanced now(still is a powerful versatile card)
@@boxcart4533 It's a unique card, no other card can fulfill the same role as miner so unless it's nerfed to the point of unplayability, like reducing its health by 50%, it will still see play. That doesn't mean the nerf was warranted.
@@boxcart4533its not a win condition anymore. Its used as a mini tank to support win conditions like balloon and lava hound and wall breakers. The nerf made it more or less unviable as a win condition.

This video just came out, so it might be able to push you to the threshold. I really hope that you make it!
your last critique for the miner could be fixed with a balance change that makes the miner go into the direction of its destination instantly instead of at the bridge
Will you talk about the clone spell? There was a time at which i played clone golem night witch, even zappy in mid ladder and had a lot of fun and then they made the clone spawn to the back instead of the side and i never saw it ever again, and it was already rare to go against
another great vid Gratz. ive been subbed since your first vid and im super hype for you to pass 100k and get your silver play button. you deserve it. you have a fantastic voice and a great format dude. keep up the great work.
I think they should add something to tell exactly where the miner will be placed(like goblin barrel shadow) the card will be less annoying to deal with and people will stop complaining miner nerf 😂
Deploy time nerf is a nice idea, but there are problems either way. If it gets a deployment nerf to the point where you can drop something before it even targets the tower, then it loses basically everything that makes it what it is. If it's still basically impossible to time it, then a damage buff with your troop killing it a little faster would just result in the same thing we have now. I think in a modern meta, the problem with miner is that it's basically a poison cycle deck. And that doesn't feel right. Made even worse by the fact that you can 3 card cycle with a champion in your deck. Every match vs miner cycle players feels like a fight to death, wether the player is good or not. There's just something really weird about that archetype.
I think maybe a miner buff and a poison nerf would be great. It lets him become more reliable and playable without poison then it will be in a healthier spot?
I stopped playing clash royale a while back so its interesting to see how the game is today, I deadass didn't know the phoenix mighty miner and the monk were a thing until I watched your videos but even so the miner holds a special place in my heart, it was my first legendary back in 2017, got it out of a silver chest in arena 6, that was before the animation for legendary cards would play, so it just popped out all of a sudden, absolutely wild. I love this card
Dude, i played this game when it first dropped, hated it, and left, yet somehow, this dudes content is just so good i listen to it while driving or grindig a game or something, he just makes it sound interesting. Keep up the great work man!
Miner was my first legendary and has been my favorite card from the moment I got it. I really don't know how to play the game without him at this point. I wish there was another card that worked similarly. Another version of the goblin barrel with a Brawler in it would be cool. It could cost 5 elixer and do spell damage similar to a snowball but in the form of green slime. The slime would slow down and damage any troops that it hit when the barrel explodes (small radius like zap) and do a small ammount of damage to towers and buildings. The slime would also stun the goblin brawler for a few seconds so he couldnt immediately start attacking a tower. Might be an interesting card. Deployment speed would be the same as the Goblin Barrel.
I haven't played Clash in a couple years now, so my perspective may be off, but I have an interesting comparison on Miner. I play competitive singles Pokémon, and the Pokémon that the Miner reminds me of is called Landorus-Therian. Like the Miner, it is an incredibly versatile pick for your team that can serve a variety of roles; bulky support, speed control using a Choice Scarf (a speed-boosting item), or even a set-up attacker, due to great stats, a fantastic ability, and awesome defensive typing. Despite this, Lando has some key weaknesses and most teams are going to have a built-in answer for Lando--you don't have to prep for it specifically. The problem is what it enables the *other* Pokémon on the team to do. It reminds me of how Miner can be used on several archetypes, but never felt overwhelming to play against. One more thing they have in common is that competitive players love them, but more casual players seem to dislike them. The thing about Lando existing, though, is it serves as role compression. It beats certain powerful Pokémon, it sets Stealth Rocks, it can remove the opponent's rocks, it can spread status conditions, etc. Miner does this as well. It can serve as a pseudo-spell, a mini-tank, or a win condition on the same deck depending on the matchup. No big conclusion, just thought it was an interesting comparison. Lando brings variety due to the role compression it brings--I'd argue that, to a degree anyways, Miner does the same thing.
As a former competitive pokémon playet myself, you couldn't have said it more perfectly Miner is THE versatile card of clash royale, and no card was ever as close to have the versatility the miner has
Hot take: they should give miner an indicator of where he’ll show up. You can tell where a goblin barrel is gonna land by its trajectory, so it’s possible to see a tricky barrel coming. However, miner gives no indication of where he’s gonna pop up, so you pretty much have to hard read where he’ll go to prevent taking damage. Of course, this would be a huge nerf, so it could be counterbalanced by giving him a damage increase or something like that.

Miner is the best card in cr ever
Y'all could argue for Tornado & Log though, but unlike Miner who pretty much never has a competition to steal his place, Tornado & Log at some point were competing with other cheap spells like Barb barrel, Zap, Snowball & Arrows
So yeah, my top 3 greatest cr cards would be:
1. Miner
2. Tornado
3. Log
Congrats on the sponsor Gratz! I know must of us would roll our eyes at Raid Shadow Legends, but I'm happy you're making money off this youtube thing, you deserve it!
a history on the electro spirit, the only card with no balance changes, would be kind of funny
I love how you said it moves slow in the intro when in reality its walk speed is very fast
I just started watching. I hope B-rad will be mentioned.
21:59
3:45 what this really means is “we were expecting this card to be op at launch and it wasn’t, hopefully this breaks the card.” Basically every legendary early on was released as a overpowered “use or lose” card as an incentive to buy super magical chests. I would argue they weren’t happy with the buff not doing enough, which would explain the deploy speed change following later.
Honestly the quality of these videos is through the roof. I would love to see an Xbow video, I used to use it as my main win con up till it got its fire speed reduction and now it's just....a shell of its former self
«This is the only troop that can be placed amywhere in the arena»
Goblin barrel: _Am I a joke to you?_
Goblin Barrel is a spell, it just spawns troops
About the often mentioned vanilla state.
Getting a 6% buff and later getting a 6% nerf is a nerf, because the later 6% are more than the first.
If im wrong please tell me, but that is how i think it works
Technically it should, but I checked the health of a level 1 miner when it first came out and the health of a level 1 miner after the health reduction, and they’re both 1,000.
1.06(1000)=1060
0.94(1060)=996.4
It should have ultimately reduced the Miner's HP by 3 or 4 points but they might have just rounded it to 1000 for the purpose of re-standardizing interactions because the final discrepancy was so minute.
it’s because they count the percentages from the original stats, not from the ones they are at while being nerfed/buffed
Ps. Nerf Miner.
😂😂😂
The History of Princess is gonna be 2 minutes long.
Used to be spell-resistant in 2016 but is now only relegated to Logbait.
There it is, the entire history of the Princess.
@@vivelespatat2670Can’t wait for the history of the princess to be Gratz’ first RUclips short
FINALLY GRATZ UPLOADS AGAIN LET'S GOOOO
We need more of these videos 💯
love rewatching your vids man, they're so well made
x-bow might b a good card to review next, considering its state..
Nothing much to review about it. X-bow has the most unique style of gameplay which only very few can learn which is why nobody uses it.
@@eternallife8898 it's also incredibly boring both to play and to play against so only people liking to annoy other players run it
So much i can't wait for this channel to cover, Prince, Dark Prince, Golem, Elixer Pump, Elixer Golem, Pekka, Mini Pekka and Sparky
drakes favorite card
Holy shit!!! Congrats on the raid sponsorship!!! You deserve it, man. Your videos are always hit for me, thank you for your efforts
Honestly I still think the miner nerf we got a while ago was unnecessary. Poison was the main reason it was so obnoxious, along with some support troops that allowed it to be unusually strong. Had we given it another couple of weeks given what changes were made, I think it would have been fine.
And the main issue with spell cycle isn’t the spell damage it’s 3 card cycle
If it was unnecessary why is it still the most used win condition, I think the nerf was fair and it is more balanced now(still is a powerful versatile card)
@@boxcart4533 It's a unique card, no other card can fulfill the same role as miner so unless it's nerfed to the point of unplayability, like reducing its health by 50%, it will still see play. That doesn't mean the nerf was warranted.
@@boxcart4533its not a win condition anymore. Its used as a mini tank to support win conditions like balloon and lava hound and wall breakers. The nerf made it more or less unviable as a win condition.
So basically Clash Royal had its own version of "Nerf Greninja"
Fun fact miners love crusher 21
I LOVE WATCHING DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT THE META OF GAMES I HAVE AND WILL NEVER PLAY
Gratz, I am so glad that your channel has come so far. I started watching at around 5000 subscribers, and I was baffled by the low subscriber count. These videos were so high quality and entertaining. Whenever you clicked, you knew what you were watching and you wanted to keep watching. I’m so glad that you are so close to 100k. This video just came out, so it might be able to push you to the threshold. I really hope that you make it!
Gratz: miner is the only troop that can be placed anywhere in the arena. Goblin drill: am i a joke to you ?

your last critique for the miner could be fixed with a balance change that makes the miner go into the direction of its destination instantly instead of at the bridge
Good idea! I like that.
17:00 “closh royale” sorry i had to
When you were talking about the miner control I feel like you should have mentioned B-rad
he did, just later in the vid
I think they should add something to tell exactly where the miner will be placed(like goblin barrel shadow) the card will be less annoying to deal with and people will stop complaining miner nerf 😂
u can see it LMAO hover and look at whether the path is inside or outside of the tower and then just react fast enough
Then it’s useless
I love your videos dude. Its like watching a proper documentry
As a miner player I actually agree, especially in the current meta
I think maybe a miner buff and a poison nerf would be great. It lets him become more reliable and playable without poison then it will be in a healthier spot?
I stopped playing clash royale a while back so its interesting to see how the game is today, I deadass didn't know the phoenix mighty miner and the monk were a thing until I watched your videos
but even so the miner holds a special place in my heart, it was my first legendary back in 2017, got it out of a silver chest in arena 6, that was before the animation for legendary cards would play, so it just popped out all of a sudden, absolutely wild. I love this card
Dude, i played this game when it first dropped, hated it, and left, yet somehow, this dudes content is just so good i listen to it while driving or grindig a game or something, he just makes it sound interesting. Keep up the great work man!
Miner should do sparky damage
29:54
small correction: the rocket does 25% crown tower damage, not 20% (lvl 14: 1967, 491)
My bad. Updated the description to clarify.
@@GratzClash love your vids!
I love miners
I love miners! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
the music you use in your videos are so relaxing please do not change them😌
I’ve been using Royal Giant since the day it got that initial buff and haven’t stopped using it since. I’d love to see a video on its history

Top 3 clash Royale channels of all time fs
This is a comparison I would have never expected yet it fits so perfectly
As a former competitive pokémon playet myself, you couldn't have said it more perfectly
Miner is THE versatile card of clash royale, and no card was ever as close to have the versatility the miner has
Ive been playing miner poison wallbreakers for the past like 2-3 years always been consistent for me 👍
Hot take: they should give miner an indicator of where he’ll show up. You can tell where a goblin barrel is gonna land by its trajectory, so it’s possible to see a tricky barrel coming. However, miner gives no indication of where he’s gonna pop up, so you pretty much have to hard read where he’ll go to prevent taking damage. Of course, this would be a huge nerf, so it could be counterbalanced by giving him a damage increase or something like that.
that would make the card useless since they could just drop goblins where the miners gonna be
No
This is essentially the suggestion at the end of the video. By increasing the deploymenttime, you don't have to read him anymore.
no
Doesn't really matter if it deals more damage when its never gonna hit the tower anymore.
Can't wait for the electrio Spirit video
