Chris Sawyer is one the greatest and most inspirational game creators and programmers of all time. I have been playing OpenTTD (Transportation Tycoon Deluxe) non stop for the last few weeks. The amount of depth he puts into his games (TTD, RCT) strictly remains unparalleled even today, in my opinion. Those games show their age in very small areas (ex: you simply have to know that ride values deprecate over time [although I suppose you could just surmise that through logic]), but they still stand as timeless classics. Chris Sawyer, as a developer, was truly ahead of his time, putting in so much extra unasked for (yet still greatly appreciated) effort into making his games so lively.

It's not in developers interest to create the perfect games, they will be out of work if they do this, hence these days we get loot boxes and intentional half finished, buggy products with decent graphics and cut scenes, this is to present the illusion that they are nowhere near perfecting game development. Sports simulations for example, if they created the perfect sports game, no further editions will be required, the user could just mod the heck out of it until infinity, losing companies billions.

That's might be the biggest advantage sprite-animated games have over modern gaming: since the sprites can't look realistic, they instead emulate the concept (in this case, of patrons and park workers). Once the player doesn't factor realism/level of graphic fidelity, the game hinges on execution of its core functions.
To put it in another perspective, there isn't any jarring moment of outdated-ness graphics because the players have already accepted that games won't look great. IMO, this is why games such as SimCity, StarCraft, Age of Empire/Mythologies, the various Tycoon games and more are still around to this day, while many 2010s games are already forgotten by the community.

You have a way with words, Amphibian.
I find that the videos of yours that I enjoy the most are the ones where you let your poetic sense roam free, painting a veritable portrait of feeling formulated using nothing but lush expression and rich prose.
Too few people are brave enough to genuinely embrace that part of the soul, that pressing need to convey your emotions in the moment to a fellow human being.
It's been both an honour and a pleasure to share those moments with you, and I look forward to what beauty you conjure for us next.

Usually I’m not interested by old games as they just seem outdated to me but this game actually still hold up. I’ve never played a game from before the 2000s before but I actually want to play this one. It’s so cool how you can place the rides on top of each other and position them however you like. It has stuff I haven’t seen in new games.

So many memories... I don't think I can say that I ever finished a challenged, but I can tell you that if you make a ride that lets you off on a path not connected to a park exit you can set the prices to ridiculous levels on the food and bathrooms and let the profit roll in.
