I’m pretty new to Diamondback Terrapins, so I don’t know if this would do anything, but maybe you could try weening him to brackish water because salt can just make miracles happen. Idk just and idea. Hope all the Terrapins are doing well 😊

I am having the EXACT same issue! My little guy was hatched in my yard six months ago. His/her siblings are big and dense and heavy whereas he is still around his 2 week size and weight. He just started really eating around two weeks ago and to our great joy, FINALLY started basking two days ago. You have been a great help to us through this with your suggestions and ideas. Thank you for sharing this side of your journey. I hope our little ones pick up some weight and girth!

I have a runt common snapping turtle, the little one will be a year old this spring, he hasn't grown much, but he eats like crazy, he acts just like Pumpkin, I hope your baby does well, he's definitely improved, you've done well.

What I do in situations like this but really with all my new hatchlings being the ones I produce here or I get from others, I take the normal foods being small freeze dried small shrimp, freeze dried brine shrimp and various pellets, just a small amount of each, let the day foods absorb the juices of the blood worms for a hour on top before being mixed. Thaw out several cubes of frozen blood worms which acts as a candy for baby turtles to absorb into the other foods then I blend it all together into a mush. Once you do this for 3 to 4 months, they become unstoppable eaters and grow in the process. Just for a thought for you. Anyways Dan, I started breeding the rarest of high end pure strain guppies on the market and have several outlets for them which I am grateful for. I have a couple hundred breeders currently of those alone and a custom website is being built but I sworn I seen your name selling Guppies but no website and only on social media. Do you have a actual website to buy from?
I also breed mutt Guppies and high end pet snails and different aquatic grasses and aquatic moss but mainly just as feeders but those extra, I sell to the local pet stores wholesale who do not want the rare high end guppies due to the cost. But curious if you have a website as periodically I will buy pure proven strains of only high end guppies is all.
Hmmmm good idea!! I do something similar if my babies aren't eating. I don't keep many guppies anymore, though I have a bunch of feeders I keep and are breeding in my stock tank for fun.
Super interesting though that you have such high quality ones, that is DOPE! Guppies have a special, special place in my heart and one day I will keep them seriously again. @@DanTheTurtleMan_ .. yes I will email you. In regards to diamondback terripans, I am mainly sticking with concentric diamondbacks, patternless I have periodically and northern blues. With the new laws coming out, Most likely I will sticking with concentric if I do not have a choice unless I split them between family which is being considered. I am slowly uploading everything slowly over time to show colors and what not in my animals. Today I posted a short video on the latest guppy pure proven genetic strain that only 4 other trios besides my 5 trios came available 2 weeks ago in the entire country as all the others were killed in the winter vortex storm going across the country currently. But in the video below or the new genetic strain of the red dragon dumbo ear platinums *with ribbon tail* (which is the latest addition to these) that I am working with. 4:52, odds are there is an internal deformity, probably the organs or something genetic. Have you tried adding some marine salt to the water? They can live in both fresh or brackish water(originally in brackish, but bred to live more comfortably in freshwater), maybe something good might happen?

I’d be curious to see if his body responded to some whole organism foods like red wrigglers and frozen minnows. As fortified as pellets are, there could be a missing micro that’s the limiting factor.

I also had a hatchling turtle that wouldn't grow much compared to his siblings, but I when I put him in a larger enclosure he began to grow faster. I think the extra exercise got his metabolism going. You could maybe try that??

Is it possible for turtles to have some kind of dwarfism? Have you taken him to a vet? They can do x rays to see if there are any internal problems.

1- it's probably an incubation problem that leads him to:
2- Dwarfism. It is rare but it does happens in nature and in captivity.
As long as he eats and acts normal there are 80% chances that he's gonna be just fine. Little but fine.
Hey Dan the turtle man I have a Eastern Painted turtle that seems sick I bought it in a local spot but the turtle doesn’t seem normal, he won’t eat and doesn’t want to move. Can you give me any suggestions?
I have turtle as well. My musk is growing rather bigger extent than the terrapin. These pygmy turtles are great, very cute! Is it healthy to live in that size for the terrapin? I would have this permanently tiny creature!
Not healthy at all. It's a problem if turtles are this small, and if they stay this small it's an indicator of something wrong.
Just curious, but why do you name some of your turtles after food? I hope you're not expecting Pumpkin to get eaten LOL
Hi Dan! So I have a long neck turtle named jiggles and I’m thinking to put fake plants in there... should I?
Not trying to answer for Dan but I breed albino and snow turtles plus diamondback terripans and spotted turtles, I also breed very high end rare guppy pure strains that are valuable as you can see in brief videos on my RUclips channel. What I can tell you and that I found, artificial plants turtles like to rest upon in the water if angled and can even help baby turtles get out of the water into dry docks. I hope this helps. Now if you keep guppies and only guppies with them, they are the only tropical fish out there that if their fins are nipped or if they are consumed, guppies are the only tropical fish that are healthy and do not have slight toxins within them . Other tropicals can reduce your turtles life span which nobody wants. There is other fish like Mosquito minnows, cut up bass and brim that are healthy but those are not tropical by any means. I also breed designer pet snails also for feeders but sell the extra back to the pet stores. What I am getting at in plants, there is a few but not many plants you can get that turtles will eat that are healthy and works for turtles to crawl up on and rest also. It also cleans your water, allows baby guppies to hide from being consumed yet turtles , Guppies and snails lov to eat it also. I would highly suggest you look into "java miss aka Guppy grass" . It grows fast and you can sell any extra you produce as it sells well, everyone wants it and pays good money for it. I sell it as well but there is several people that does across the country. When I breed certain things, I do it for the benefits of everything i produce is all. It's fun and yet profitable while providing healthy food sources for your pets.

Hey how’s it going, I have a quick question? How did you manage to get a hold of a diamondback turtle? I’ve been owning turtles ( red eared sliders ) for 4 years now and I’ve been trying to purchase or adopt a diamondback. Where did you get yours? I live in California and I don’t see any breeders here.
I know plenty of breeders in CA!!!

Eh it shouldn't matter really. The zoomed is just smaller and easier to eat but when I let the pellets soften he has no issues eating it, so that shouldn't be it y'know? He would've put on SOME growth by now so it's strange
also...shouldn't he be eating the specifically formulated hatchling formula to help him grow???
Usually that's what I use, but I've been feeding this stuff this year and all of mine (and friends) have had great success
