Great video, super informative! One point of correction though - Angostura bitters actually doesn't contain angostura bark extract. The bitters originated in the town of Angostura Venezuela, hence the name.
awesome pieces of information !
Glad you found it useful Cadence! Cheers 🍸
I don't even drink but I'm subscribed now for the quality easy to follow videos
hi Tim! I'm new 2 the channel and I ❤️ gin. I live in the states and just picked up a bottle of applewood & can't wait 2 drying this weekend. next I will pick up some tonic and garnish. really enjoy your reviews, 🍻!
Thanks Jeff, I hope you like the Applewood! It’s a really good representation of Aussie Gin - big, bold, complex and unique flavours from Australian native botanicals on a traditional backbone. Welcome to the channel 😁
@@TimandTonic Tim, the applewood gin was one of the most unique, tasty spirits I've ever had. I finished the entire bottle with a friend over the course of an afternoon. I ended up purchasing a case, 1 for my pal, 1 for my dad, 4 for me!! What an incredible gin this is.
Very informative! Why does this not have more views?
Thank you so much! Glad you found it useful 😁
I love tonic water. Have it with a slice of grapefruit and a lime.
Tonic water is best drink in world.
Only with gin
I recently came back to drinking it and absolutely love it.
I cant grt myself to drink Tonic! But I do love Club Soda!
Really enjoyed this. Thank you
Hey, thanks so much! Glad you found it useful 😊
Thanks mate
Anytime 😜
thank you
I love this. Educate me Tim
I’m a waiter and last night I really messed up a tables order because I had no idea what the drink was, thank you for this video
Glad you found it useful 😊
Love from India.. Nice video
Thanks so much! Greetings from down under 🦘
What about the Canada Dry? Its bitter enohgt and not sugar taste at all
Best drink
Does tonic water contain yeast of any kind? brewers yeast or other wise?
My favorite tonic water is Britvic. It’s very clean and bright tasting. I can’t get it here in the states but I was introduced to a good G&T in London and when I want one I have to have Beefeaters with Britvic and a slice of lemon and lime. Unfortunately I have to import the Britvic tonic water. 24 bottles are about $20 USD PLUS $70 USD for shipping. 😩 Needless to say I have my “British” G&Ts sparingly. Otherwise, I drink Fever Tree but Kroger Supermarket makes a really good canned tonic water. The next time we’re in OZ I’ll have to try a Aussie G&T.
Haha I’ve tried Britvic before too - previously I lived in London for 5 years. But don’t think I could ever justify $90 USD for a box of tonic 😅
What about New Zealand? You can come here and enjoy your gin and I have the Britvic tonic(never seen or heard about it before though))
SoCo & Tonic water is not half bad. I discovered it accidentally, though I got lemonade only to find tonic water in my shopping bag.
A friend of mine told me about tonic water being the choice drink when people got maleria in Africa. She has Covid and the symptoms are close to that of maleria. She let me know it had the Quentin in it that helps. I went straight to YT to research. Thank you for this video. Now ,The problem is the sugar in the tonic water that should be avoided with anyone who has Covid! So which brand taste best by itself that also has a lower sugar content?
Fever Tree refreshingly light is good.
Holy shit this was informative
Glad you found it useful 😊
Can you drink the whole bottle of the fever tree on it'sown?? Or do need to mix it with something??
Absolutely, you can drink tonic water on its own! You might like to add a little slice of lemon to take off the bitter-sweet edge though ☺️
I've tried a bunch of these different tonic waters we have available nowadays. I'm not really impressed by any of them, Fever Tree and the like. My favorite is just the regular Schweppes. However I've never heard of or even seen their "Indian" tonic water anywhere here where I live in northern California. I live roughly 100 miles south of the Oregon border, so in other words I don't live in the urban areas of California.
Anyhow, I definitely love gin and tonic, especially on a hot day. One of the best drinks there is IMO, along with martinis (3:1 ratio for me) and also a traditional style whiskey old fashioned.
Hey Tim, great video. Would you be interested in do a video together for honemade cocktail garnishes and pairing.
Let me know
Hey mate, sounds like an interesting idea! Hit me up on my DMs and we can chat further 😁
I’m ticked they have discontinued my favourite and healthiest (sugar free) tonic water - zevia - from the supermarkets in British Columbia - very frustrating when you get attached to a product.
Is there any positive health benefits drom drinking tonic water? I heard like and is it true that it is good vs tachycardia? And good for heart in general?
NB/DISCLAIMER: Not medical advice, speak to a qualified health professional.
There is definitely evidence to suggest that quinine, the main ingredient in tonic, has many potential medicinal uses as it has done in a historical context anecdotally too. The problem is a therapeutic dose I believe is not what is in tonic today so how much effect it has is highly questionable. As always best to speak to a medical professional about your specific circumstances.
Have had severe leg cramps at night for years. Tried everything. An ER doctor mentioned a few ounces of tonic water before bed. Three weeks later and have not had any cramps. So happy.
Gin & Tonic with a twist of lime is the best cocktail in the world. Must have proper proportions. Not too much gin. 1.5 ounces is perfect topped off with about 6 oz of tonic.
Definitely not too much gin. Sometimes I pour an unmeasured amount of gin in, but I find that 1.5 oz is the best as far as taste goes. If I want more gin flavor, I'll just drink straight gin...which I actually do like the flavor of. But for the purposes of a G&T, the standard 1.5 oz of gin topped with tonic water can't be beat for me. One of the most refreshing drinks there is IMO.
I wonder if tonic water with Quinine is good ?
Thanks !
It helps me with alcohol withdrawl. That is why I have it handy. I stopped drinking spirits forever..But still have some cravings..
Which one has the highest amount of QUININE?
You need to try Tomas Henry
Recently got Aldi knock off (Fever Tree) and it was much, much better than the proper Fever Tree. Aldi version was £2.18 for 8 x 150 mll. You feel Fever Tree are turning us over slightly charging £5.00 for the same mini cans. Quality has dropped I am sure
What? There is tonic other then Schweppes? Holy cow. My partner does the shopping how am I going to explain to him he has been doing it wrong all this time. 🤣😱😂
Yeah m8, I think I am with YOU on that one? IF we wanted "Raspberry Koolaid" in our Gin and Tonic, we would have just splashed some in our Koolaide right lol
Last I heard it was invented in India in the city of Jabalpur where snooker was also invented.
Cool fact! 😎
I bought a bottle of lingon-flavoured tonic water from a local brand here in northern sweden, I have never tried tonic water before so i dont know if it is supposed to taste this bitter
tastes almost like grapefruit
to be honest I think it tasted pretty awful but then again it is probably because Im drinking it without anything and I dont like grapefruit
Hey there, yes tonic is supposed to have a fair whack of bitterness to it, that all comes from the quinine! Usually people mix it in long drinks with other ingredients like gin as that tends to balance out the bitterness a bit. Bitterness is certainly an acquired taste!
I’m diabetic so diet tonic water is a must, but sometimes hard to find, particularly in smaller bottles. Tonic goes flat in a partially empty bottle
you realise it's loaded with sugar right?
Can you please do a video on mocktail
You don't have to apologize for your pronunciation. We understood everything.
Hmm
OMG
Thomas Henry Tonic water? Not sure if this will make the list.
I have heard of it! However not had the chance to try it yet, unfortunately it’s not available here in Australia
@@TimandTonic I bought it in Beijing... hhh guess you can get anything in China. I'm no expert but bought a box of this Tonic and hope it will work well for my housewarming. Thanx for the video.
Great video! But you do sound like you’ve just inhaled a balloon full of helium. Much love.
Lemonade goes better with gin!!
Ever heard of Walter Gregor's?
I haven’t, no! Not a brand we get down here in Australia sadly 😢
@@TimandTonic I realised much later after posting this comment that you are Australian 😂. It's a Scottish brand, hand-made, so if you ever need something unique, you could try their website.
@@anjolaokunade2861 I lived in London for 6 years so my accent is a little muddled sometimes so it’s not immediately apparent 😂
If I ever come across it I’ll be sure to try it! Thanks for the recommendation 😁

Yes I have definitely heard of Nepal 😁

It's the country with highest peak in the world 🤣🤣

One day I hope I can visit 😍
A ER doctor suggested tonic water for my severe nocturnal leg cramps. I drink a few ounces of sugar free tonic water before bed. Have not had a cramp from the first night. Don’t know how it works but it works for me. Sorry no gin.
It's the Quinine in it. You might want to study Quinine drops. BTW Quinine can be made from steeping the rind of lemons and grapefruit.
who else is sippin on Fever tree while watching
sippin on a Strangelove
I want to send you the best tonic in the world … a swiss made one called gents … I can‘t drink anything else after discovering it …
I am here watching this video because some idiot fool refused to specifically label his product "Tonic Water" and instead called it a thirst-quenching name "Sparkling Water". I just wanted water ffs
Oh wow. Well if someone is marketing tonic water as sparkling water that’s just false advertising!
Zevia Tonic Water: Zero calories, sweetened with Stevia herb.
I will have to keep an eye out for this one!
Is it alcoholic?
No it is not alcoholic 😁
All the basic tonics in the United States like schweppes are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and they taste like like ass.
typical 1500s europeans, stealing the sauce
Good video, but I think my G+Ts will taste a bit worse now that I know the history of colonialism that brought us easy access to tonic water. Yuck.
tonic water doesn't taste good, it's pretty bad
It’s not for everyone, but there are definitely a lot of other people who do like it!

I don't like tonic water by itself. It's butter and gross. Maybe I had a bad brand, but it was the only option at the total wine I was at so.. idk, and I mixed it with vodka. 🤢
