Thank you many times over, just spent the past 3 weeks trying like hell to repair my pc, it operates like new, I immediately created a recovery disc so I'm prepared for another disaster, much appreciated and I'm a new subscriber!
I have a Windows 7 laptop for which I used the instructions from this video to restore the laptop to factory settings. As the Guru states, some of the instructions are a bit different, but everything worked beautifully and I am 100% pleased. Thank you, Guru!!
This was great. I am new at all this (wasn't needing to do this yet, just interested) and I wish you lived next door so I could knock on your door when I get lost!! Easy to understand. Thanks for talking plain English!
If no partitions are show you must make one and if the hard disk is not shown you may have a failed hard disk. Does the partition page show a hard disk or have a message about one?
if there's technical issues and you are not able to access computer, can you insert flash drive or portable hard drive to save any data that was already stored in the computer before inserting recovery disc?
hello i don`t have a factory image restore option within the F8 boot window,i did do a factory restore last year and believe i had the option then, have a dell studio xps 8100 - win 7 - i`m doing this because my hard drive has lost a good part of volume in a very short peroid of time and have no clue where it went, lost approx 150GB - if possible reply back, thanks
You can get restore OS CD/DVD's from the computer manufacture. This usually cost around $20 US to purchase. Visit the manufacture website and search for operating system restore disk replacement
thanks for your reply, contacted dell thru facebook and they told me if you don`t see factory restore then they can send me a usb recover key as a one time courtesy, not exactly what is is but hopefully it works to factory restore, does this sound right ?
Hello. On the device manager where you had two yellow ? that said "ethernet controller and SM bus controller" I have "Base System Device".....What shall I do with that?
i have a question i get up to the part around 7:08 and i dont get the format option or any options on the bottom and in 6:20 mine says install now or check compatibility online and i press install now and i get another option that says updating install by online or soemthing like that but mainly i just dont get the format option and when i try to install it it says i just get the same files for windows it does not replace the window files i have right now
i am a tech at a motel got lots of extra discs and comps but i need to reinstall on a machine. does it matter if the disc came with a different computer can be used on another computer or does it have to be the computer it came with? but still has the same os?
It depends on the brand machine. Dell allows you to use same os disk between different machines but other brands like HP only work with their given machine software
I got an question, when you go to documents there is normaly an disk Named Recovery, and i dont have it, i think somehow i deleted it, is there a way to get it back?
I did everything I know how trying to get the SM Bus Controller back to the computer but still in vain: I downloaded all the updates, I went to Dell.com and downloaded the .NET Framework, I downloaded the "Driver: Document" disk to the computer, which required the Adobe and another program to be downloaded...Still the SM Bus Controller yellow flag is still up. What do you recommend me to do?
Also.. why should we want to return our computer back to the condition it was when we first get it from the manufacturer? I mean does that help it to run better or clear up space or something?
Windows is like some marriages. They change with time. Windows becomes unstable and sometimes gets to a point where it does not work no more. This is because of viruses and malware. So doing a system recovery using the Disc from the computer maker, Windows is reinstalled and its back to business.
Great video. Does this work with a brand new hard drive and with a PC that was not running vista before? was running 7 pro or any other operating system. I understand that will work with all PCs. Thank you
i have a laptop hp with windows7 and i am from austria my englisch is bad , but i have a question. i have made last year on my new laptop a save on a dvd of the system. and i delet the recovery and hp tools. was that a mistake do delet the recovery and hp tools ? if you understand my question, can you tell me please what can i do ?
Sounds like you deleted the recovery partition on the hard drive so you will need the disk you made if you ever want to restore the machine. Hopefully the disk you made are done correctly but can't tell without doing it.
i have the disc and i try it but nothing happens. i had delet the recovery i think last year and the Laptop works fine. i think that was a big mistake . and can you tell me can i install Windows 8 without the recovery?
The OS recovery key is something (exciting and new Dell came up with that promises to: It backs up your data It saves your personal settings It reinstalls the operating system It then restores the data and brings the system back to its original setting I never personally used one but it's one time use does not make it that attractive to me. But they are giving it to you so it's free. Steve
Whats the difference between windows recovery and a fresh install of windows when with both options everything on the hard drive is going to be wiped off? I mean both options are making a fresh install of windows and removing everything from the haqrd disk.
Hey I bought a new hard drive and did a full system recovery disk but the time I put my third disk the screen is at updating part and the loading bar stops at 81% any thoughts ?
Thanks. This video has been amazing. I didnt get the SM-buscontroller installed with the windows updates, but I found it the same place you found the internet driver. Other than that, simply brilliant. Id give you two thumbs up if I could.. Once again, thank you.
hi bro , i have an hp dv6700 wich i did a change of os and put win 7 it all look good till i notices i have a bug on my sound software , it says that i have none and my hardware its missing ....i trying all drivirs i just intal win 8 and did the same prob .. i dont have an factory disco what can i do in this problem
some older machine will need a ps2 keyboard and mouse while doing the restore. most the time you can navigate using the tab, enter and arrow key while installing if you can get at least a ps2 keyboard
Yes you can use the recovery partition without using the disk. Sometimes hard drives get damaged and the recovery drive does not work so this is why some computers may need the disk.
I am trying to restore a Dell that was used in a corporate environment and when the computer was imaged, all previous factory partitions are removed of course. Every time I try to use the restore disk, i get a message saying that a partition is missing and cannot continue. All videos on RUclips only show how to use the disk assuming that the hard drive's partitions are intact. What do I do to restore the factory partitions so that I have a recovery partition available again???
Hi will this be the same thing to do with a refurbished hard drive I will be installing in a Hp pavilian 753n because the old one died I will be putting in Windows XP Pro 3 or is there some thing else to do since the hard drive will have nothing on it. I am new at this and will be the first time I will be doing this any help will be welcomed Thanks
Hey Steve, I was wondering if you could tell me, is there a way for me to purge my system, perhaps to a disc, so I can make more room on it without taking up more space on the hard drive?
There are many ways to do it. Your personal data like photos, music, etc can be copied to a flash memory or some external hard disk. Or you can use a Backup software like, Acronis, Norton or some free software that performs backups. However, if your computer Hard Disk is small, consider buying a larger drive like One Terabyte Hard Drive runs for about $54.00 and then reinstall windows(1T). My brother burns his personal and valuable data onto DVD's or CDs, If you can use Roxio Easy CD & DVD, this software tells you if your DVD to burn onto still has enough space before you hit the BURN feature.
Hey thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I will certainly look into doing the things you've stated here. I did do that with my photo's, now I need to do that with my other files as well. I like keeping space on my computer & keeping it healthy. :)
great video! I was able to get my other computer working again. Just one thing, though. I have no sound. When I put the mouse over the speaker icon, it says, "No audio output device is installed", and the speaker icon has an X over it. How do I get the sound back? Thanks. :)
Hi Guru, my laptop wifi is not working after installing the latest window. Then I have downloaded the previous window it used to use again yet..the wifi is still not working. Could you help me with this?
Hey Steve. I currently own a Dell computer which has Windows 7 Professional Edition. The audio on the computer itself is no longer working. Can using the recovery I have that came with that computer help me to get the audio restored back on that same computer? Please let me know either way. Thank you!
Need help please I followed all your directions and things was going good. During the installation part, it stop and told me Windows can not install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. I have restarted, but it does the same thing. Help me please
Great video. I followed the prompts to restore my HP laptop however can't get passed doing the backup of my data. I am not able to select the Next option, after it is performing the backup. Please help.
After the updates, the SM Bus Controller was still not in. So I went to the Dell website. They told me to download the .NET Framework. It is still going on. I wonder if I did the right thing.
So I had success in this process until the updates. I need vista sp1 and it will not install. I installed windows installer package, the update standalone package, and turn off starting programs as suggested by my research and still get error code 0x800703. I am not sure of what to do next. I need the service pack to continue to update and be able to access things on the internet. If you could help or give me a lead on where I can find help please let me know. I do enjoy your videos and feel like I have learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Ok, well nobody has responded but I have researched and have seen other with a similar problem with no answers. I figured that it was able to get the service packs before but it was more slowly. So reformatted and reinstalled the Vista OS again. This time I chose to not have the automatic updates on and only installed the updates in order one year at a time from the earliest year. When I got to the service pack I downloaded that directly from the MS website and installed it. I also did not have an anti virus installed so it couldn't interfere. I am happy to say that I now have everything current.
Tanya C I am happy to say that I now have totally erased and reloaded 2 Dell Windows Vista computers. The unfortunate thing is that after all the updates there is not alot of space left because they didn't come with a lot but they will mainly be used for going onto the internet. In the beginning I thought that I messed up completely but taking my time to install the updates and doing much research has helped.
The SM Bus controller is the System Management Bus Controller. Framework is not the answer it will be listed as a driver for your particular motherboard. I would guess it's listed as a chipset driver
Hey guru, can u tell me why dont i have any driver to installed the windows in the beginning, and when i tried to browse for a driver, none of them work... Can u help me please... Im using a dell inspiron 14z ultrabook
my plan is to install Windows Vista first because I have Windows 7 but it's an update only so I have to have an operating system already on my computer before I install it. do I need to do all the updates for Windows Vista if I'm just planning on installing Windows 7 right after?
The other issue I'm running into is it keeps saying there isn't enough space for temporary files. I deleted aps and went into the temp folder and deleted stuff, but it still says there isn't space.
+Genuine Jess if you're installing from a disk which I assume you are, make sure that before you do the install you are selecting to delete the main partition otherwise the operating system will still be on the hard drive and that will take all your room.
It doesn't give me that option. Pressing F12 didn't work. It started out asking me where I wanted to boot up from but when I selected the CD it booted my computer normally.
Thank you for your video it was the only one that properly explained how to use the dvd to restore factory settings. I did seem to have one or two differences that may be helpful to other users. I have a 2008 Dell inspiron 530. Before the windows set up screen was enabled there was a blank screen which had a fleeting moment in the top left corner that said to boot up using dvd press any key. this message was very brief and if missed it would try to use the hard drive, so this is an important step.
Hey, I tried using the largest disc to install windows and it says "Windows detected that the EFI system partition was formatted as NTFS. Format the EFI sysytem partition as FAT32, and restart the installation." I am not sure what that means so if you could get back to me as of what to do next that would be nice. So far the video is great and has helped me with all my problems. Thank You.
I've done everything you've said, but I can't get any further after pressing f12. My screen just turns blue and stays like that. Is there something else that may be wrong? I have a gateway with windows vista. I think I got my computer in 2008. Please help. I really need this thing working again!! Thank You
I'm I the point where I can choose the factory image to restore my computer. But it won't go any further because it supposedly the backup is corrupt or missing? Please help :(
having restored factory settings on my dell inspiron 530F desk top I get the windows screen ok but after a short time the screen goes blank . If I do an F12 status I get the the screen works ok so the screen seems to be working but when I run Boot to Utility partition the screen goes blank again. It seems that the screen works ok when I first switch on but the goes blank so I cannot see the result of the diagnostic test. can anyone help.
My computer was working yesterday with no trouble. No one has used the computer since yesterday This morning the screen is black and says that the boot manager is missing. What could have happened to cause that?
possible hard drive failure or corrupt boot sector. try running hard drive test from system startup. look in machine book on how to do this from startup. usually f8 or f12
After my computer asked me for what language to use (English) the next step was what type of restore I wanted to perform. But It wouldn't let me click on either. Only an exit would work which put me back to the beginning again. Very frustrating. Any idea how to be able to click on which type of restore I want to perform?
Hello I have a HP SR2000 with windows 2000 Pro. I had trouble with it booting and resolved that. When I tried to load a disc from the CD drive, it would not see the disc in it. I found on Microsoft site that you go in to control panel/ sound manage audio devices, right click blow devices and show disabled devices shows up, you click it to enable them and the CD drive worked. I also made my real-tech sound card my default. Now I powered it down and have nothing, no power, no fans on mother board turn, CD drive don't spin up and hard drive don't spin up. How can I recover this? If I take the hard drive out and use an external box can I go in and reset the default? Thank you Dennis
theres nothing there it says not enough room to install windows os here then somthing about drivers the reason i tryed to restore it was because on boot up i was getting a message saying internalt for multi core processors will be disabled no bootable devices-- strike f1 to retry boot or f5 for onboard diagnostics
I NEED HELP!! I restore my laptop and it worked but when I powered up the computer the next day I had to go through the restore proses again and ive done it like 6 times and it wont get fixed! HELP
You probably need to delete the existing partitions using setup before creating a new partition for the current install and that is why it says you have no room
Your video really guided me into installing back the windows vista but I need help because I'm trying to install the driver which is the Ethernet and the SM bus controller as well ..I called Dell and the program Vista is obsolete. They couldn't give me technical support...Please get back to me asap in this comment .
Mach 3 reboots when I try to open it , it worked before , I tied reinstalling it but same thing happens , will open on safe mode but won’t operate cnc. Can you help , would like your opinion, like watching your videos as you get right to the point . 👍🏻
Why do we have to go to another computer to download the disks again? I have the disks from the company when I purchased the computer. They are 1. Application 2. Drivers and Utilities 3.Drivers and Documentation. Are they good enough? Do I still have to go to another computer to download new disks? If so, that means I have to bring the computer to a Geek and pay him to do that.
I tried to reinstall windows using the ISO DISK. During the process I misunderstood a question and deleted all Windows programs that came pre-installed when I bought the computer. How can I recover those or is there a way? Bcoz the ISO files don't include those programs
Hello, before I decide to proceed to recover my windows, I have to ask several questions that bothers me. So, if you're willing to answer, here they are: 1) Is there any chance that while recovering from the recovery dvd (I have 5 of them) I will lose all data in the computer? I mean, does the recovering process affect only the partion of hdd where windows is installed or does it format the other partion of the same hdd or even another hdd I have in my laptop? 2) Does the recovery process format my hdd or does it only move files from here to there and alter registers and what not? I actually think that I have a malware on my computer and I can't get rid of it. It makes my windows behave very strangely and I also am worried about the passwords I type on the computer. So, will recovering rid me of the malware or not? 3) I don't have particularly good experience with recovering, I have done one in my life so far, and it wasn't pleasant because after I thought yay it recovered, the installation process asked me to insert a disc with drivers I did not have at the time. And nobody even warned me that I would need any. So I actually wory about that it happen to me too (back then it was my sisters' laptop). You know, it might help if I buy standalone windows licence but I am not really inclined to this option as it's a rip off I believe. And yes, there is cheaper Windows 8 now, but I don't see anything good about it. Thanks in advance.
Oh hello, thanks for the answer. Didn't really expect it that fast. It's Win 7 HP running on Asus G74s (2 hdd (500 GB each) and bla bla, nobody is interested :)
Thank you many times over, just spent the past 3 weeks trying like hell to repair my pc, it operates like new, I immediately created a recovery disc so I'm prepared for another disaster, much appreciated and I'm a new subscriber!

Thanks for your video. I really enjoy watching your videos and the most important part for me is that you talk slow and I can understand you.
Are you sure you removed the cd/dvd from the drive?
If no partitions are show you must make one and if the hard disk is not shown you may have a failed hard disk. Does the partition page show a hard disk or have a message about one?

You can get restore OS CD/DVD's from the computer manufacture. This usually cost around $20 US to purchase. Visit the manufacture website and search for operating system restore disk replacement

What disc would I need for a toshiba satellite c6550? Please answer.
Hello. On the device manager where you had two yellow ? that said "ethernet controller and SM bus controller" I have "Base System Device".....What shall I do with that?
This video Fixing Wired and Wireless Internet Connection Problems describes how to handle problem device in the device manager. Steve
it will work also if the promblem is a disk read error occurred press ctrl alt del to restart??
Thanks Steve big help. He is problem I hope you can help me with. I have a pop up that says I'm running out of disk space. How do I fix this problem?
if mine didnt come with the O.S am i still able to restore to factory settings without the disc using the recovery drive? Thanks.
I just had a new hard drive put into a Dell Inspiron. Is this all that I have to do to get it up and running again?
Thanks

thanks! Where may i purch. these disks?
Great video. Does this work with a brand new hard drive and with a PC that was not running vista before? was running 7 pro or any other operating system. I understand that will work with all PCs. Thank you
What did the error say? Did the error occur when you were were reinstalling (factory restoring) or at another time?
you're awesome dude you earned that name Guru" definitely you're the man thank you very much !
i have a laptop hp with windows7 and i am from austria my englisch is bad , but i have a question. i have made last year on my new laptop a save on a dvd of the system. and i delet the recovery and hp tools. was that a mistake do delet the recovery and hp tools ? if you understand my question, can you tell me please what can i do ?

The OS recovery key is something (exciting and new Dell came up with that promises to:
It backs up your data
It saves your personal settings
It reinstalls the operating system
It then restores the data and brings the system back to its original setting
I never personally used one but it's one time use does not make it that attractive to me. But they are giving it to you so it's free.

my plan is to install Windows Vista first because I have Windows 7 but it's an update only so I have to have an operating system already on my computer before I install it. do I need to do all the updates for Windows Vista if I'm just planning on installing Windows 7 right after?
I would say the major updates like the service packs for Vista would be required first. YES
The hard drive on my computer is newer than my computer. The original one crashed, I was thinking king maybe that was causing the issue somehow.
Thank you very much. What you share is extremely helpful and valuable. May God bless you!
Thank you for your video it was the only one that properly explained how to use the dvd to restore factory settings. I did seem to have one or two differences that may be helpful to other users. I have a 2008 Dell inspiron 530.
Before the windows set up screen was enabled there was a blank screen which had a fleeting moment in the top left corner that said to boot up using dvd press any key. this message was very brief and if missed it would try to use the hard drive, so this is an important step.
will all passwords be gone also?
Please help :(
Hi Steve , I can't thank you enough for this video and the way you present the information. Well done on all accounts : )
The pc says vista home basic but dvd says vista home premium why?
Thank you, thank you for this video. Was wanting to know about erasing the old windows and you were the only one that touched on that..
Sounds like your hard drive has failed Try performing a hard drive test if you have that option inside F8. You may need to replace it.
what if i don't have any eject button on my laptop? i cannot put my recovery dvd into my laptop.
umm.... It say on the disk home premium, on the sticker it says home basic...
I’m so happy I don’t speak English very well but I understand all the steps and I did it Thankfully 🥳🙌🏻
having restored factory settings on my dell inspiron 530F desk top I get the windows screen ok but after a short time the screen goes blank . If I do an F12 status I get the the screen works ok so the screen seems to be working but when I run Boot to Utility partition the screen goes blank again.
It seems that the screen works ok when I first switch on but the goes blank so I cannot see the result of the diagnostic test. can anyone help.
I did everything as you said but when i restore my laptop he only use one of the five dvds that i burn, is that normal?
My computer was working yesterday with no trouble. No one has used the computer since yesterday This morning the screen is black and says that the boot manager is missing. What could have happened to cause that?
possible hard drive failure or corrupt boot sector. try running hard drive test from system startup. look in machine book on how to do this from startup. usually f8 or f12
your hard drive might need to be replaced
when it load up and ask for lang. my mouse and keyboard stops
What is the cd called and whould it wipe a misi laptop
Thank you
Dennis
is it only for DELL or what?
+xShadowZ Each company has their own disc and software :)
theres nothing there it says not enough room to install windows os here then somthing about drivers the reason i tryed to restore it was because on boot up i was getting a message saying internalt for multi core processors will be disabled

I press format on my biggest disk and it doesn't work and I tried the other ones and they don't work so none work :( please help
Mate / bro your a "Guru" this particular segment helped me alot, much appreciated, 3 thumps you from me.
My screen never gets a signal. I tried mobo vga. reseat rams etc. NOTHING WORKS I can't see anything.
So, if you're willing to answer, here they are:
1) Is there any chance that while recovering from the recovery dvd (I have 5 of them) I will lose all data in the computer?
What is the operating system on the machine? Also give me the make and model of the computer.
Oh hello, thanks for the answer. Didn't really expect it that fast. It's Win 7 HP running on Asus G74s (2 hdd (500 GB each) and bla bla, nobody is interested :)
So I guess you don't have an answer for my questions... Then I am sorry I bothered.
