Agoge Airsoft Yeah, country music isn’t just from Dixieland! Keith Urban is actually Australian, Taylor Swift is from Pennsylvania, Shania is Canadian, etc! There are plenty of country artists in Canada and Europe. We might even get country stars in Asia in the future...

Growing up we've met people who've struggled with all these things differently. The characters in this video are a few examples of what this song could be about. To us its about a whole mixture of things. You can expect a few surprises on tour but we're still planning out the show so we'll see :)

I just discovered you two within the past week or so and can't believe I never heard of you, as I'm a huuuuuuuge fan of country - all the kinds of country - mainstream, Nashville, old-time and old-school, alt-country, Americana, country rock and country pop.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that you're the first British country act, or perhaps the first country act of any nationality whatsoever, to score #1 on the UK albums chart. What planet am I living on when such a thing happens in the UK? Apparently this UK isn't your mother's UK anymore. The times they are a-changin'.
I love country music from all over the world; I get really stoked when I find covers of super obscure 70s and 80s country tunes- long forgotten even in Nashville except possibly by diehard fans of a certain age - tunes that are performed by people living in the Seven Sisters, the far Northeastern states of India; or in Papua New Guinea; or in Korea.
The most amazing and delightful discovery for me in the past year or so is the country subgenre Country And Irish, from the Midlands and Northwest of Ireland, with the likes of Una Healy, Lisa McHugh, Shauna McStravock, Áine Crehan, Cliona Hagen, Niamh Lynn, Fhiona Ennis, the Murphys and the Outlaws. Can't believe how much good country there is in Ireland, and American country fans who are ignorant of this subgenre are just crazy and cheating themselves not to be hearing it. And, trust me, these Irish ladies, much like you two, are camera-ready for the music videos. If Nashville ever got an earful and eyeful of these Irish country singers, the total experience would really put the zap on the heads of some out-of-touch and out-to-lunch recording executives. Which is fine by me; I say, while they're in a daze, take out those dinosaurs with a scythe and replace them with people with knowledge, taste, talent and appreciation for what country music is at its best and always has been.
Now, you two, Ward Thomas, you remind me just a little bit of First Aid Kit, the two-sisters band from Sweden. I'm just imagining a double-billed concert with you two and those two, or even better a concert with your two bands plus a bunch of the women from Ireland - that show would be a major league blowout, sponsored by Boddingtons, Mariestads and Guinness, lol
But Ward Thomas's music is just outstanding, Catherine, and it took me about 29 minutes that first day to realize what I'd stumbled across. "Cartwheels" is just stratospherically aesthetically superb, and it's so heart-breaking to endure the desperate efforts of a woman to merit the attention of her significant one, a person who seems not to care about or value either her or their relationship, even at the risk of its dying permanently on the vine - a song that could make you cry if you weren't careful. And what a video, brava!
"Carry Me Home" has such anthemic potency and drive - love it #2 behind "Cartwheels"! But, honestly, I haven't heard a bad tune out of you two yet. You should release one bad one on purpose, just so no one suspects you're aliens.
Just can't believe you're only, what, 24? Just crazy! What lives you have ahead of you, God be praised! You should absolutely hit it in America if you're marketed properly. Funny thing is that certain Americans, being the eternally culturally insecure people we are, people who would ordinarily scoff at anything country, would probably think that country music from the UK is cool, if not hip, because, well, it's from the UK, and they'd feel compelled to listen to it and embrace it.
In recent years here in the U.S., country music and especially mainstream country-music radio stations have gone off of the rails a bit, but these days, definitely by the time Kacey Musgraves's Golden Hour appeared in 2018, things are looking up, with the likes of, yes, Kacey (the Pink Floyd of country), Mickey Guyton (the Beyoncé of country, fusing country with R&B and blues), Maren Morris (wild child extraordinaire), Aubrie Sellers (the dead-ringer, "garage country" daughter of Lee Ann Womack), Cam (from California, if you can believe it), Pistol Annies (scary trio, Hell on heels, whom all rational males ought to fear), Kelsea Ballerini (Italian-American country sanger - no, not a punchline), and, of course, Lady Antebellum (nuff said) and The Band Perry (listen to their cover of Glenn Campbell's "Gentle On My Mind" and be transported!).
Have you two heard, by the way, Kacey's cover of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" at the BBC? If not, you should give it a viddy and a cocked ear on RUclips; it's a mesmerizing and ultimately stunning revelation, not merely for her exquisite, fragile, achingly beautiful voice but for the offbeat, languorous tempo, the specific instrumentation and the inspired, considered and thoughtful arrangement of the cover. She also did a live duet of the song with Tom Chaplin onstage at Wembley. Both videos are on RUclips.
Yes, new-school country is on the move in the U.S. We only wish that Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift would come back into the fold - "come back to Jesus," as it were, lol. Miley at least is making songs like "Malibu," which is not country but clearly is the output of one who formerly lived in the country realm. Taylor is a whole different story; when she left Nashville for New York City, she really left country by the side of the road and took up with . . . well, all of us are not sure exactly what it is she took up with. Whatever it is, it's not country by any stretch.
Oh, there's also Lauren Daigle, who's not country but rather a gospel, Christian-music singer-songwriter who performs in the manner of R&B, but who intuitively seems like an honorary country artist. She's actually crossing over into mainstream, secular audiences, because, unlike wretched, slovenly, amateur Christian pop music of yore (the 80s and 90s), her brand of Jesus tunes is truly USDA Grade AA, sounding deceptively just like mainstream power pop, à la Adele.
Finally, I'd be remiss not to mention the outstanding alt-country, Americana, country-rock and country-pop figures who for so long have kept Nashville honest, some people who are a little bit older now, in their 40s and 50s, maybe 60s, like black-leather-jacketed Lucinda Williams, Alabama Valkyrie Shelby Lynne, Shelby's little, flame-haired sister Allison Moorer, God-level-talented Alison Krauss, small-town Iris DeMent, mistress of fine arts Tift Merritt, Jesus-adoring Mindy Smith, Okie-ish Gillian Welch and the meat, bones and gristle incarnation of Dixie Chicks post 2003, the Iraq War kerfuffle and all that, ending in the glorious appearance of the Grammy-winning Taking The Long Way, in 2005..
Okay, Catherine, thanks again for replying to me. What a wonderful surprise! Sure do hope to see you two one day in concert. Hint: When you come to America, swing through the Gulf of Mexico coast, New Orleans at least and, if you can, Biloxi, Mississippi, where an entire coliseum on the beach awaits you and your dynamic performance to take over its stage.
