It would be great if you had some kind of table comparing GPS accuracy with older models. I mean, those overlapping graphs are great, but we have no way to know if it´s better or worse than an oldish Venu 3s, for example. Even if you test different watches in different places, assigning a 1-10 score once you do see those graphs at home would make the purchase way more confident, based on your expert. Same thing you could with heart monitor accuracyj, which is another esssential feature. Anyway, just a suggestion, and thanks for your great work, as always.

Great video! The watch seven and the watch seven ultra are like night and day. I’ve had galaxy watches ever since the Microsoft band was discontinued. Thanks for the video Do you still have to put the watch in water lock mode before you get in the water? Also do you need a Samsung phone to use the blood pressure monitor?
I can’t figure out Samsung. They have the best design of any smart phone and a great design on their watches, but the accuracy is their least concern. How can they have an app and not explain it? Also, I agree with you everybody’s seems to be exactly the same on ages. Where is the BP on the watch 7 ultra?

Was really waiting for this test from you as it confirmed issues that I've been having with my own GW7. Really disappointed as I don't want to leave the samsung ecosystem and the gps is as inconsistent as my old Galaxy watch active 2 from 2019
I traded my Watch 5 Pro for the watch 7 44mm this year and didn't have to pay anything after discount codes - mostly because I feel like there's no way I'd get a $250 trade in value anywhere else on a 2 year old Android watch that I didn't even pay $250 for brand new. While I love the speed improvements on the new chip, the battery life has not been great since my Watch 5 pro could potentially last me 3-4 days whereas the Watch 7 is a watch that I have been charging pretty much daily. I wish the new "bioactive sensors" weren't such a marketing thing but year over year I feel like there isn't a lot of improvements. The AGEs thing was another thing I looked forward to since it's a new feature, but so far it seems useless too. Thanks for the review, it's been entertaining even though the watch itself has been rather disappointing otherwise.
Same upgrade here. I do miss the battery life, but it's getting better it seems. The Watch 7 is definitively snappier, and less bulky, specially while sleeping. Overall I'm happy with it.
My GW7 has been going great. I did notice on a run the other day that the heartrate was between 145 and 155. I know 100% that i was up over 190bpm. Not sure if the rear sensors were dirty or what. I took it off at the end, cleaned and it jumped up to 180bpm. I would like to see a training load feature like Garmin. AGEs is totally pointless and energy score doesn't really mean much for me.
Top tip - With the battery life, go to the health app and under steps sync, turn off frequent. The watch then goes a further day or so on battery life. It's a hidden feature and stops your watch syncing with your phone all the time draining it's battery.
I returned mine. I really liked the features and in general an excellent watch except for the thing I bought the watch for: the sensor. Very disappointing and it is not clear why Samsung is not successful where the other companies are. Hope the Google Pixel 3 will be more successful
thanks for your videos Ray! I have a question about the heart rate testing monitors. You are listing the garmin 965 and the coros HR band in the same category/color same for the garmin epix and the wahoo trackr, is it that you broadcast the found heartrate onto the watch or is there something more related to the recorded HR? Thanks!
I genuinely hope that they work on the bioactive sensor algorithms. They claim it's getting better or more efficient, but I see no reason to upgrade a watch galaxy 6 classic. That said, as a free-time developer, I wonder if they have an API to get data from the Samsung health app to build a better app than Samsung health. Or a more structured one.
I still have Watch4 Classic. I'm surprised by how little actual real-life development 5, 6 and 7 brought. Most basic features seem to be same or very close (HR, Sleep, IP68...). Well, Ultra does have a good GPS and the bigger battery (of 5 Pro). 4/6 Classic have the rotating steel bezel, 5/7 don't. 5 Pro brought big battery and massive thickness. If my phone was compatible, I would have already bought an Apple Watch. Although iPhone (iOS) isn't quite as attractive. Especially in Finland (some things appear later or never).
I purchased the forerunner 165 (my first Garmin) after watching your review. Curious as to what you think about Garmin's design of just recording one sleep session per day. Can be a bit annoying for me if I ever sleep in bits or sleep for 3+ hrs in the afternoon or evening
I have both it’s basically the same answer as usual when it comes to conspiring these. Garmin if you’re serious about sports / running etc. if you want a fitness watch first then venu , if you care more about smart features and intervention to your Samsung then Galaxy watch
Excellent review friend, I have the Galaxy Watch 4 classic and I really do not know if it is worth upgrading to this Watch 7 or directly have as an alternative the Forerunner 165? I would like your opinion (I practice crossfit and I would like to control the beats more precisely)
I think the one i received is a faulty one. The only update I did was when I 1st turned it on. I turned off majorly of the settings and have battery saver on, and the life only last half the day then I have to charge it.
I hope you’re currently testing or in a few days or a week. Garmin is going to send you a early sample of the Garmin Fenix 8 51mm pro watch I’m dreaming of having cellular even if it cost $1300 which obviously you wouldn’t know the price because September 4-6 is the apparent release date

In terms of indoor cycling, is there a difference between this watch and previous models? I have got too high heart rates in gw4, but i don't really feel like this. Running is accurately measured. However, indoor cycling is too bad to follow in cycling section.
Excellent analysis of the Samsung Watch 7, and if it is very true the flaws of these models unfortunately are so they never improve, until another new model comes out and there are certain improvements, paying so much for these watches that their prices are increasingly high, and if it will depend on the need of each person to acquire these models, in the market there are several models of brands, in the end it will be our decision to acquire the one that fits our needs, greetings and ALWAYS LIKE 👍
I’m a subscriber! 2 questions: 1. Is the energy score comparable to Garmin’s body battery? 2. Just to verify, did you say you can’t pair an external heart rate chest strap like Polar H10 to the galaxy 7 & ultra?
From my perspective, your experience may be different than other users. I have checked other reviews and found positive comments about the GPS. If anyone else has tried it and it worked well for them, it would be valuable to hear their opinion. In my case, it has worked correctly and I have no complaints. Another thing to take into account is that using several smartwatches in your hand at the same time can affect the GPS signal and give incorrect data.
There’s plenty of trusted and reputable sports and fitness reviewers showing GPS issues, it’s not hard to find. Likewise, there’s no issues with GPS interference in the configuration I have them, as per how every company on this industry tests watches.
@@Dcrainmaker I respect your opinion, even if I don't share it. Could you tell me which experts you are referring to? You claim that there is no interference, but there is and it is proven. When using multiple smart watches on the same hand, there may be interference with GPS. However, to make you feel happy and proud, I will agree with you. I hope we can continue to discuss this topic in a respectful manner. It's just your opinion and your experience, it doesn't mean it happens to everyone.
Can I do interval running sessions with it without any presets? I mean those where I can just manually separate one interval from another by pushing a button (or at least double tapping the screen as on apple watch, i hate that tapping on fast paces but at least it worked, would prefer a physical button). I just need these manual splits whenever I want them, not by preset.
Let's face it if you are the kind of person who trains seriously you are Garmin for your data. So viewing this as an average Joe who uses tne tracking to keep me focused and motivated, this is more than i need, in fact i would say there was more positive than negative in this review for me.
Second. And we appreciate your hard work and attention to detail to everything you put out. I've been waiting for your review over all for your (health use) review. I am an active....outdoors kinda guy where I also do running, walking, hiking and cycling and although I use my Enduro 2 with the Garmin HRM Pro plus, I like to keep a Samsung watch on deck for some of my exercises just to stay connected with the Samsung's eco system. So your review was very important for me. Question....does the ultra connect to garmin's HRM PRO?
Strange. I have a Garmin 165 and a 7. I got the 7 before the official release, Amazon mistake? I also have found the GPS to be fine. Like a different reviewer, the two watches were super close. Also, the lag and gimmicky touch screen in the 165 makes the 7 the winner for me.
I just went back to your Apple Watch Series (AWS) 9 review to check the GPS accuracy. My AWS9 is quite inaccurate in little to no tree coverage areas (with canal on one side and a highway on the other) just like your examples. Do you think the GPS accuracy can differ between batches of the watch produced or there might be some other reason for it?
Wish samsung can go back to their twisting bezzal like on Gear S3, still my watch works great and still solid...charging is just getting to me doing it every 2 days...but all thenew watches just dont looks or feel same with just touch screen
Is there an option for LTE to automatically switch on and off? Like, if the device is jn Bluetooth range, it shuts off LTE and use the phones data connection
Thanks for your review! Can I ask you what's the best smartwatch choice for accuracy and HR health features like atrial fibrillation detection? (that's not an apple watch)
What's your budget? Id say any modern Garmin watch with their HRM Pro Plus will set you up with success for what you are inquiring. But I am curious to see what DC says in response.
Are you noticing weird graphs for the running pace on the Samsung Health app? On the watch it seems quite readable, but on the phone app I've seen some very spiky graph making it unreadable..
As someone who is only casually into fitness and doesn't do any workouts the require GPS, I am really happy with my Galaxy Watch 7. Unlike any prior Galaxy Watch I have owned the heart rate sensor works reliably without cutting out numerous times per day and overall day to day performance is great. Like you said, it's a shame that Samsung nailed the antenna design on the Galaxy Watch Ultra but not the Galaxy Watch 7 but at least it shows that Samsung is capable of fixing the issue and knows what to do next year for those who rely on GPS on their smartwatch.
Interesting that the Ultra is better with GPS than the 7, but I wonder what it would be like if the 7 also had LTE. I believe that should significantly improve the accuracy.
True, unfortunately, this screen uses a dynamic refresh rate, constantly changing based on ambient light levels. Merely moving my hand over it, changes the refresh rate.
@@Dcrainmaker I don't know why it would, it should change the brightness but not refresh rate except for the very lowest brightness settings. Looking at my watch6 in a fairly dark room and setting the frame time to 1/30s works perfectly
@@harlisviikmae6240 The companies are all switching to variable refresh rates, as it dramatically saves battery. It'll usually go from 60hz down to 1hz, variably, depending on both light and function within the watch.
@@Dcrainmaker I would assume it prioritizes birghtness except when in AOD mode. Have you tried messing with frametime? Gotten any smarter on when and how much it lowers the refresh rate? No matter what I do with the watch, (still in the darkish room) I can't see any flickering with my camera with frametime at 1/30s.
Sleep tracking, SPO2 while asleep suck big time!!!!! I regret buying one to pair with my new Samsung galaxy s24 (which is really good). Thinking of returning the watch 7 and getting the Pixel watch 2 or 3 to pair with my SG S24. Unless there is a way to fix the accuracy of the watch(?)
Don't take these health readings on these watches too seriously. In my opinion, they are more of a novelty item, and its just more of an entertainment app. It makes for a good conversation at a party with your friends. The Samsung Ultra 7 isn't much better. I suppose if I'd pay $1500 for one of these watches, then I'd be expecting extreme accuracy, much like you might find in a professional monitoring equipment in a hospital or your doctor's office.
I have two watch6 classics, the watch7 Ultra, and the watch7. The sole reason I purchased them is because I like them. I don't care about the functionality. When I make time I play with them because for me they are just toys. People take these watches way too seriously.
- GPS is working great for me (Tested with Forerunner 945 and Amazfit Balance watch) - Heart Rate works perfectly well. GW 7 is bang for buck watch for runners.
Regarding AGEs index Accordingly to samsung you should aim for the green zone, but you might not notice any change, but if the index started to go towards the red zone then you need to recheck your lifestyle.
Except everyone I know is in exactly the same spot, including my friend, who is essentially a pro cyclist and one of the healthiest people you'll ever meet.
It's not the camera "refresh rate" it's the shutter speed, sir. Lower the shutter speed and that blinking will go away. Source: photographer for 30 years.
This. I switched to Garmin after 3 consecutive Galaxy watch models. I remember a guy telling me his Galaxy watch 5 could last 5 days between recharges if he turned off ALL the features. Imagine the cope.
Here ya go, from my written in-depth review (www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/08/samsung-galaxy-reviewaccuracy.html): Here are the things that require a Samsung phone: - ECG (Electrocardiogram): This allows you to make on-demand ECGs, which Samsung has had medically certified as a Software as a Medical Device program by the FDA (and equivalent in Europe). This is only available for Samsung phones, and only within certified countries. - Irregular Heart Rate Rhythm Notifications: This feature runs in the background, and alerts you to irregular rhythms automatically. This too requires a Samsung phone, and also is only available in certified countries (they got FDA certification for this a few months ago). - Blood Pressure detection: This feature automatically determines your blood pressure level, after calibration against another known device. My testing in the past found this finicky at best, as this is not a medically certified component (whereas ECG is). While there has been much talk of Samsung getting medical certification here, this hasn’t happened yet. Again, this also requires a Samsung phone.
I've had the Galaxy Active 2, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, Watch 6 44mm and now I have the Watch 6 Classic 47mm. Does anyone who has the Galaxy Watch 7 44mm know if it has the same problem as the others? The heart rate sensor, even set to continuous, stops monitoring several times a day and keeps flashing without monitoring properly. I need to know if they fixed this, otherwise I'm going to give up on these Samsung smartwatches. I don't think the Samsung sensor is inaccurate, but rather slow.
when I go up the stairs or do a couple of squats, the sensor does not work, and it takes a minute or two before it starts again, but when I turn on the activity it works fine.
I got my watch 7 last week and battery life only last half the day and would have to charge it. U turned off the majority of the health settings except the step and heartbeat tracker. Turned off wifi and Bluetooth. Also, have battery saver on . Battery still drains fast. I keep hearing about this update, but the only one I saw was the one it had when i 1st tuened in the watch. Idk... starting to get disappointed in this product thinking it's a waste of time and money
thanks for this. disappointed with the accuracy so many generations in, esp with the ultra can somehow do better it should be obvious but hopefully you stated you are reviewing the 44mm model that has a different battery size compared to the 40mm. Also there's a touch bezel so you don't need to swipe as much
My Galaxy watch 7 shows me the walking map after the walk workout but it is not visible on my Galaxy phone...i see online that this is a common issue with the last update for ssmsung health app on galaxy watches .... shame on samsung ...
Samsung is the KING of gimmicks. Fitness is not a priority of these watches. Apple does the best job of catering to fitness people while still being a smart watch primarily.
My watch 7 last 48 hours no sweat. But of course, if I'm playing my music for hours and have all my programs running the background...then yes it lasts only about 18 to 23 hours.
Same hardware, same software, same features, same watch. But there is no route tracking. Here we are again with another one of Samsung's stupid sales strategies. I was thinking I would switch from a Pro model to a Pro model. They released an ULTRA with a ridiculous design and only the LTE model came out. It is sold 3 times more expensive in Turkey with serious taxes. I am annoyed that Samsung is trying to force the sale of a higher model with such simple software deficiencies. Why can't I track a route on the flat model? As if it won't work...
I do regret getting a samsung watch now after a couple of years. Its "health" app is diabolical and doesnt integrate with cycling apps. Forget to start a recording? tough really, it will record it but you cant use that data in a sensibly displayed platform like strava. Samsung insists their platform is "brilliant"....it isnt. Its min max driven and drives me mad.....and power meter pairing.......ffs. Body comp/bp etc all clearly just algorigth driven. For instance two concurrent comp readings will give a 5kg swing in variables. Honestly just regret this thing.
I just had it for 175 woth discount and im returning it. I hated Samsung for their "customer service" as well as the watch is nothing "wowong". It looks simple and it feels more like a compromised and incomplete little phone wannabe. Behaves like a phone, feels like just another android device but very limited. Not to mention the useless apps and features that non Samsung users cannot use, so its even extra more limited. The battery is worse amongst the smart watches. Lagging sometimes. Looking cheap compared to watch 6 classic. If im gonna buy such a thing I'll go for gw6 classic, only for its look. But thinking about how bad the interface feels in ge7 and that in few years gw6 won't be supported, im not gonna buy it either. Buying this is the worst you can buy, buy a dedicated hr tracker instead and a good looking normal watch. I forgot to mention that the display is so exposed that you will hit it everyday. The digital rotation is so bad and swiping on such a small device is just useless.
This man is all about his work and 100% creditable. Just look at his watch tan on his wrists!!

Excellent review friend, I have the Galaxy Watch 4 classic and I really do not know if it is worth upgrading to this Watch 7 or directly have as an alternative the Forerunner 165? I would like your opinion (I practice crossfit and I would like to control the beats more precisely)
Maybe your particular watch is a faulty unit? I've seen a couple of other reviews where it fared much better. Subscribed 👍
I think the one i received is a faulty one. The only update I did was when I 1st turned it on. I turned off majorly of the settings and have battery saver on, and the life only last half the day then I have to charge it.
Do you have to have a Samsung phone to use this watch or can you hook it up to any Android phone ?
Is the calorie outtake accurate? Please check this out
I don’t use Strava. I use a armband heart rate sensor pair in samsung health and i’m happy with that.
Did the watch 6 have this problem with the GPS? Kinda crazy that they come out with an ultra watch and their standard offering suddenly suffers...
Good point
So for geocaching...the ultra would probably be necessary?
I just need these manual splits whenever I want them, not by preset.
hello, please, I'm deciding between garmin venu 3 and galaxy watch 7, what would you choose? Thank you
Without a doubt....Venu 3!
Let's face it if you are the kind of person who trains seriously you are Garmin for your data. So viewing this as an average Joe who uses tne tracking to keep me focused and motivated, this is more than i need, in fact i would say there was more positive than negative in this review for me.
it would be great if you can get the Huawei watch fit 3, that seems to be the best budget/great HR accuracy combo
Nope. You can’t connect the Ultra to any sensor.
@@nilsmatthiesen sanding said you can take the polar pro 7/9/10 sensors to your health app and synch it with your activities
I have no answer. I just remember that AWS 9 has these options:
* Aluminium or stainless steel?
* 45 mm or 41 mm?
@@eukariootti1 I have the 45mm Aluminium in Midnight color
Wish samsung can go back to their twisting bezzal like on Gear S3, still my watch works great and still solid...charging is just getting to me doing it every 2 days...but all thenew watches just dont looks or feel same with just touch screen
Dude I wish my s3 still worked! 😢
I did face a problem.with my samsung galaxy 7 watch ultra , when i go for a open water swim i don't get the distance of the pace i only get the scheme
Are you noticing weird graphs for the running pace on the Samsung Health app? On the watch it seems quite readable, but on the phone app I've seen some very spiky graph making it unreadable..
My pace spikes quite as well in the Ultra. It is somewhat better after the last update but still not great like my Garmin 965.
You'll upgrade to a real Garmin one day.
Yeah it happened to me once too where the GPS was still on for some reason
Good watch, even that the GPS went on a trip you still have a faster time.
Interesting that the Ultra is better with GPS than the 7, but I wonder what it would be like if the 7 also had LTE. I believe that should significantly improve the accuracy.
I have lte on my samsung 7
Great review. Will stick with Garmin and Pixel.
The screen filming issue can be fixed by increasing your frametime to equal or longer then the screens refresh rate.
Sad they can't get the basics down after years of development. I will look to another band. tx
Ill stick with my epix pro gen 2 almost 31days battery with amoled display ❤
Hi DC can It send heart rate data to say wattbike app on wattbike atom?
5:38 how did the garmin manage to miss the wakeup time by an entire hour on Thursday?
Legit very surprised, especially since I was sitting up and on a conference call at 6:30 that day. Very unusual.
I have two watch6 classics, the watch7 Ultra, and the watch7. The sole reason I purchased them is because I like them. I don't care about the functionality. When I make time I play with them because for me they are just toys. People take these watches way too seriously.
Still waiting for garmin/suunto/polar/coros with esim!
Mu 44mm is very accurate for gps. Same hardware.
Hi!
Can you tell me more about the accurate of the GW7? Becausr i am very interested on this watch.
Thanks
- GPS is working great for me (Tested with Forerunner 945 and Amazfit Balance watch)
- Heart Rate works perfectly well.
@@Dcrainmaker it has changed a lot for me, but it takes longer than you think. now there are completely different values than at the beginning
@@Dcrainmaker this works for long-term observation, not weekly wear xD
Swappa has the 40mm ($299) for $220 right now.
May be getting one for Christmas i don't run or anything like thag
It's not the camera "refresh rate" it's the shutter speed, sir. Lower the shutter speed and that blinking will go away.
Source: photographer for 30 years.
So it's gotten more expensive but still lacks in heart rate and gps tracking .-. Only two things that are must for me as a runner
I'll stick with Garmin for my watches. Imagine having to charge your watch every single day.
This. I switched to Garmin after 3 consecutive Galaxy watch models. I remember a guy telling me his Galaxy watch 5 could last 5 days between recharges if he turned off ALL the features. Imagine the cope.
Exactly like we all charged our smartphones. Just imagine!😊 simple rule: went to the shower - charged the watch.
Imagine having to eat everyday 😂 it's not that serious
Smartwatches aren’t for everyone, people like you prefer fitness trackers.
Lmao I get 2.5 days on my watch 7. They updated it. Dude isn't on the latest one.
I have a pixel phone too. What won't work with it?
Here ya go, from my written in-depth review (www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/08/samsung-galaxy-reviewaccuracy.html):
Here are the things that require a Samsung phone:
- ECG (Electrocardiogram): This allows you to make on-demand ECGs, which Samsung has had medically certified as a Software as a Medical Device program by the FDA (and equivalent in Europe).
My Garmin lasts 6 days with AOD. Cant imagine who would by a watch in this day that only last a day and a half.
I don't think the Samsung sensor is inaccurate, but rather slow.
hi, I have the same problem on my gw 7 44mm, my heart rate does not go above 100 beats when I do not turn on activity and it freezes..
when I go up the stairs or do a couple of squats, the sensor does not work, and it takes a minute or two before it starts again, but when I turn on the activity it works fine.
@cybrexis Very complicated, just that. I asked mine if it stays that way too. I will return it. Thanks for the help.
No thanks. I'll stick to my Garmin instinct 2 solar and charge it once a fortnight 😅. Good review though
thanks for this. disappointed with the accuracy so many generations in, esp with the ultra can somehow do better
it should be obvious but hopefully you stated you are reviewing the 44mm model that has a different battery size compared to the 40mm. Also there's a touch bezel so you don't need to swipe as much
Ahh nothings change for the gps from galaxy watch 5 😂😂, good things i switch to garmin..
Put mine in my drawer only got 10hrs battery life while using nothing and everything turned off, put my Huawei back on used 3% in 24hrs.
Teşekkürler
My Galaxy watch 7 shows me the walking map after the walk workout but it is not visible on my Galaxy phone...i see online that this is a common issue with the last update for ssmsung health app on galaxy watches .... shame on samsung ...
Half the price of what?
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Shocking battery life for a 7th gen product. Everyone is showing up Samsung in battery life.
Coros > Samsung > Garmin
Samsung is the KING of gimmicks. Fitness is not a priority of these watches. Apple does the best job of catering to fitness people while still being a smart watch primarily.
My watch 7 last 48 hours no sweat. But of course, if I'm playing my music for hours and have all my programs running the background...then yes it lasts only about 18 to 23 hours.
Why is it only available in green or cream??? So dumb.
$ 300,- and no option to follow a breadcrumb trail.. .geez.. worthless. (to me)
That's nice
I'm not going to lose any sleep over this. If you want an accurate fitness level get a physical exam from a doctor.
