    Guy Robert brought two "firsts" in the perfume world. His style of classical aldehydics with a floral heart and chypre base launched the house of Amouage and propelled it to the very dignified place it holds nowadays. You can read Gold Man as a manifesto for the house. Luxurious, opulent and magnetic, Amouage Gold shares similarities with two other fragrances that I own, which came from the talent of the same perfumer: Calèche d'Hermès & Équipage d'Hermès. Équipage was the house's first male marketed scent.
    It makes me proud to speak of them today.

    What a great review of two of my favorites. I just discovered Gold Man and I wore Equipage for years as my signature in the 80's. Guy Robert also created another first men's scent for another great house, the original 1976 Gucci Pour Homme. I wore it as my signature for years until it was discontinued. I still have good back stock, bought when the prices were more reasonable. It's amazing. My brother's girlfriend was from France and when she came to visit me she gifted me a bottle of Equipage they picked up for me in Paris. Again, I wore it for years and have a good supply of vintage back stock as well. As for Gold Man, it does somewhat remind me of a masculine version of Chanel No.5. However, although the notes are different, it gives me a similar experience to wearing vintage Guerlain Habit Rouge EDT. They both share the civet note that takes it into that skanky yet so very elegant animalistic territory. It's definitely my favorite from Amouage and my favorite new find for 2024. Truly the Gift of Kings!

      That was a very interesting and informative read🙏🏼 I wonder what prompted Guerlain to move away from civet in Habit Rouge, when the effect can be achieved with synthetics as well.

      @@MemoryFlo Unfortunately, my guess is that the civet accord can be off putting for many and it's all about the money anymore. I haven't smelled a current formulation, but the vintage Habit Rouge EDT is remarkable. And as for Gold Man, dazzling!!!

      Intersting! I just finished filming Opium edt and was very surprised to learn how similar it is at times with Gold Man. I’ve known Opium forever but it’s fascinating, it just hit me.

    Gold Man is one of my all time favorites, and it is the fragrance that completely changed my nose. Once I fell in love with it, white florals completely opened up for me (other than neroli of course). Now, I love jasmine and tuberose scents. The Jasmine combined with the frankincense is so insanely perfect in this blend. The supporting notes all blend perfectly with those two anchors. It’s sublime.
    For me, it’s the subtle powder from the Lilly of the Valley and subtle sweetness of myrrh that form some kind of bridge for that jasmine and incense. I don’t think it has as much ambergris as it used to, but the resins from all the different ingredients are like a symphony with woods and florals.
    Also, I was shocked how well it does in hot weather for me. I can wear it all year, but I crave it in the heat. It seams to calm it down and smooth out a little.

      I completely agree! Gold Man is the type of scent you can wear in the heat, it becomes fresher somehow and more floral. In the cold, it is one of the best incense scents I own.

    I used to have Amouage Gold (I still have a few drops, maybe 15-20 ml, from my first bottle, which I purchased back in 2009. I absolutely adored it, but you’re right: it’s not everybody’s cup of tea. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it on another man because it takes courage to wear a perfume like that in our western world. In the meantime, it has definitely been reformulated: I tried and smelled it last summer again and it was already leaning on the more masculine side (probably for commercial purposes).

      Oh, no! I’ll have to give it a smell in shops.

      I just picked it up (I'm new to Amouage) and not having experienced pre-reformulations, I think the current form is incredibly amazing!

    Why is Black Iris one of their best seller?

    • @MemoryFlo
      @MemoryFlo  2 месяца назад

      Cause it’s Interlude but with a twist 😂 I originally liked the use of Iris to replace the oregano, however, quite quickly it turned into nothing else than the original Interlude on me. In time I realized that it’s the oregano that makes Interlude special, with its spicy smoldering burning aspect. In Black Iris, Interlude is no longer burning, it’s a fizzle of designer taste amber. Nothing daring, just smoother and easier to like and to wear. A crowd-pleaser

      @@MemoryFlo Yes, it totally lost its personality and uniqueness. Too sad. And now Loreal is buying Amouage. What a joke.

    I had the original formulation "Gentleman's Cologne".
    It was a little too classic and floral for me but certainly exquisitely made
