after owning my Tacoma for nearly 5 years, I wish I got the long bed. That extra foot of space would've been very helpful when hauling things like lumber or 4x8 sheets of plywood
I opted for the long bed, the biggest reason was my truck camper fits perfect. Also when I moved my sisters furniture nothing was sticking out. I have no issues in parking or going off road, you just have to be a little more aware. The long bed. 👌
I drove short bed Tacoma's for years till I moved to a Tundra. Now full circle, kid's are grown up. I moved back to a Tacoma. Now, I don't off road much in my truck other than pulling my camper and hauling my quad. I test drove the limited, off road, and ended up buying a sport LB. Hands down the best ride, reminds me of my Tundra. Just my opinion. Enjoyed the vid!
I purchase my 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD sports 4x4 Long Bed and i could never been happier. I got a camper shell for mine taco so when i sleep in the back of the bed i can full stratch and my feet still wouldn't touch the end of the tail gate.
I have an access cab, long bed and love it. I rarely do off road and my kids are grown, no need for double cab. I have the jump seats in back of mine and it's perfect for our 2 small dogs.
You kinda touched on my reason for buying a long bed. But specifically I want to be able to eventually put a cap on my truck bed and be able to fit my body height (5’10”) without sleeping diagonal or curling up my legs. I won’t be doing that kind of off-roading that would cause me to bottom out. I totally agree with your logic though. I had never thought about it until I started watching these RUclips videos with folks doing some really technical stuff. Great explanation in simple terms, thanks.
I never even gave it much thought I just knew that I needed to be able to load my motorcycle if necessary. I had a Tundra before so parking seemed easier to me and it was exactly what I need. Living in the desert I go off roading a lot and I have never been concerned about the truck being a long bed it takes you where you wanna go including snow now I don’t do extreme stuff but I do pull a trailer from time to time the truck does it all for my driving awesome little trucks
Dclb taco always for the win fits in my garage perfectly and I can walk infront and behind, also look wise the LB looks way better especially when you lift them, and as far as offroading goes I hunt and I go on trails and have never had an issue
Thanks for this vid and the comments section, it is great to see all the pros and cons that come up! The correct answer as to which looks better DCSB or DCLB: Neither! The Xtra Cab looks best by far. And, you get the benefit of the long bed space with the short wheelbase! It’s a truck FFS, not a passenger car. Glad that is settled, I’m going shopping now!
I have the short bed and there’s times I wish I did have the long bed but overall the look is a lot better for the short. If I need the longer bed I just put the tailgate down and use the bed extender..
This is exactly why I went for the short bed! The bed extender is an extremely valid tool and I'm sorry to all the long bed boys but there is no way you will hit the real hard trails with a long bed.

When I needed to pull the trigger on a Tacoma a little over a month ago due to my prior lease ending my choice was basically fish. Couldn’t get a short bed. Couldn’t even get the color I wanted so I settled on a silver long bed. Looks wise it grew on me and as far as maneuverability I also got used to that. I find the long bed to be more useful for hauling music gear (I gig normally during non covid times) and hauling bikes (I work at a bike shop). The short bed versions look so tiny to me now haha. About to do a 3”/1” lift and new wheels and tires. My bank account is gonna be pissed.

I am not in a mountains or snow areas of the USA. I don't need the 4 wheel drive. I love this truck!!! Simple with less electronics and maintenance too...
Currently in this dilemma. Love the Sb for the look and small wheel base for maneuverability. But want a topper so can set up the back to sleep and camp in. The SB just won’t do it.
I have a TRD Off Road, double cab Long Bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. I seldom go Off Road, but we use our Tacoma for work around our property.
It’s so much harder to find a reasonable priced cap for a long bed Tacoma but I’ve been trying to find one for my 08 shirt bed and it’s impossible and on eBay $1000 no thx. I’ve seen so many 6 and 7 foot caps on Craigslist for as low as $100 .
Do you notice any difference in center of gravity and cornering when it comes to bed length? I am thinking of a next gen Tacoma over a next gen 4runner since the bed may make it less top heavy, but the trim I'm looking at (Trailhunter) comes in two different bed lengths.
