    A 35/85 fast prime combo could cover just about anything you need at an event (assuming the indoor spaces aren't too tight). I'd throw the 20/1.8 in my bag too just because it so small/light and takes up no space. For vacations, 35 only is perfect. But for client work, it's just too limiting.

    Thank you! I’ve been toying with the fact that I can get two focal lengths out of one lens just by cropping but you are right in pointing out that it won’t be the same look as a dedicated focal length. So maybe I need to rethink my strategy on lens selection and saving weight on a wedding day! Thanks 😊

    I've been shooting since 1996, so I have few "miles in my legs" when it comes to event photography. During the years, I've also had these "now I got to get ALL the possible lenses for my camera" vs "now I will shoot with only this one lens" mood swings. Today - and for the past 1.5-2 years, I've ended up with a setup, that is more or less bulletproof for me: I carry two cameras. On my right hip I have a Sony A1 with the 50mm f1.2 and on my left hip I got a Sony A7 IV with the 135mm f1.8. I mostly bring 20mm f1.8, 24-70mm f2.8 mk II and 70-200mm f2.8 mk II in my car as well (just in case....) but I rarely use them, if ever. I only bring them as I need to be able to adapt to unforeseen requirements when I get out on the given job. I've had the 35mm but to me, it just didn't have the "magic ingredient" of the 50mm f1.2 and I felt it was somewhat between two chairs where I would reach for the 20mm if the 50mm was too close, so I sold it again. More or less same reason is behind never having had the 85mm..... if I want more reach than the 50mm, the 135mm has the same "magic" to it as the 50mm and is MY "money shot lens", as you refer to it at 04:53 :)

      “Miles in my legs” 😂 love that! I’ve never been a fan of a 50mm but I feel i’m about to hit a 40% life crisis and feel the need to have one 🥴
      I love how we age and our way of thinking matures (sometimes), going through these phases. Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻

    Interesting story, thank you Danny. Those photos looked cracking to me. And it reminds me to use my 85mm more because it's an awesome lens.

    aha, must've been rec'd this bc i just bought this lens, watched as many reviews as I could.
    still in the mail but looks like new, $900 shipped, no tax, feel like it's a solid deal for the overall quality. great review! i do vid, and not weddings, but still nice to see how it performs under these conditions

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад +1

      It’s a cracking lens mate! I had the 1.8 and swapped it out for the 1.4 in March just for the extra bit of light for weddings. For video it does have some focus breathing but it’s crazy sharp and looks incredible. Can’t beat a 35mm for filming, you’ve chosen wisely 😂

    • @ListenHereOldMan
      @ListenHereOldMan Год назад

      @@DannyBligh oh yeh, re the breathing, would've just gotten the 1.8 had sony not given the FX3 the compensation feature in the last firmware update... amazing feature, really, it was the one i was most hoping it got. so many Sony lenses are amazing for video now, as u know, breathing was the main issue w all the recent GMs.. i'm expecting quite a crop given how bad the 35 is at it, but it's fine, i have the 24 for wider shots

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад

      @@ListenHereOldMan don’t quote me on this but I think it gives you a 1.1x crop across the board. My Riv has it and it isn’t too extreme. But then add the active stabilisation (if you use that and that 35 is more like a 43. However, i like to see it from two sides, least we haven’t paid thousands for a cinema lens just to get rid of focus breathing 😂 you’ll love it!!

      The presets i’m using for editing specifically my wedding photos at the moment i’m not selling yet. I’m working on finalising the whole pack over the next few weeks however I do have a portraiture pack that i’ve used on model shoots and weddings a couple of years ago

    Interesting video, thanks. How did you send your Leica Q2 back? I mean did they charge you a restocking fee? I just bought a Canon R5 from a well known London store, which they said I could return within 14 days and take my money to get the Sony A7R5 instead. NOW they say, “Oh, there’s a 5% restocking fee” which I’m super mad about! Had they told me that I would have got the Sony straight away instead. What’s your view please?

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  Год назад

      I never owned the Leica, it was part of the test drive with leica. I emailed them and asked if i could pay to try it and explained i was wanting to try it to buy one but planned to make a youtube video and i had it for a little longer than I should. That’s all!
      Restocking fees are pretty standard though with any camera and lens. The seal on the boxes can only be broken once and if they take the camera back it can only be sold as used/b-stock and it would be a lower price. Whether you’ve been told differently, that’s something for you to take up directly with them

    the a7rv with the tammy 35-150 would probably be the killer combo for an all in one... yet we all know the 85 still gets whipped out for portraits xD

      yeah I just watched that vid of yours haha
      my favorite combo for casual/street photography is actually the sony40 f2.5 and sigma 85 f1.4
      with the apsc crop on the 7RV they're effectively two standard zooms and really compact at that
      for weddings and events I'm actually selling my 70-180 vecause the 35-150 is just so much more versatile, especially when shooting with two bodies and keeping a wide on the a7iv where cropping idn't really such a large factor anyway :)
