Wow ! Check out that gorgeous Gerry Mulligan.. Congrats on it, Jon. Ornette is too far out for me as well. Kenny Burrell is my favorite jazz guitarist !

You grabbed some what looks to be good listens Jon. Some of the labels speak for themselves. Just to let you know. There are a few versions of the Turrentine song "Don't Mess with Mister T". So I am thinking that {like you stated} the one that you have there may be big band sounding. The other version is with a standard four or five piece jazz band. I really dig the title track. Thanks for sharing them. Best of luck breaking even when you sell off whatever ones that are not keepers~

What a deal you've managed! Once again I'm envious. I've been diving into South African/Cape Jazz recently so the Dollar Brand album got my attention. You probably know that jazz was protest music in South Africa, especially in the 70s, an important expression of resistance against Apartheid. At a Goodwill a couple years ago, I was lucky to pick up the Dollar Brand album Mannenberg, which is called Cape Town Fringe on the US release. It has one long track on each side, with a form that's very repetitive but let's each soloist really stretch out their melodic ideas. It's one of my all time favorite Goodwill record finds. The African Space Program album is a very different style, more wild free jazz, but the emphasis is clearly on the "freedom" for these repressed artists in Apartheid South Africa. You probably also know that Dollar Brand also went by Abdullah Ibrahim, and is one of our jazz giants still alive today (age 90).
And that's just one of the gems you found there. Congratulations again! I wish I wasn't too far away to pop into the record show and say hi.

@@whateverthing71 - It was definitely a good score. Only became aware of Dollar Brand a couple of years ago. I’m not much into “free jazz” but this is a keeper. Thanks for watching

Those records look to be in great shape. I've never been a guitar jazz guy but that acoustic jazz album sounds interesting. The past week I was playing Country and Blues exclusively. That Champion Jack Dupree would have fit right in.
