Very helpful. I managed to hook up two iPhone apps (Moog Model D and Model 15) to the MODX at the same time. Sounds great via the USB interface into the Modx and then out to my stereo speakers.
Thank you so much. I was struggling with the midi settings for a week. Not really any straight forward solution on the internet. Or i am just bad at searching. This zones settings solved all my issues.
Sir, thanks for the amazing tutorial. Is it possible to use an external MIDI keyboard as an extension to MODx 6 so that I can assign pitch range to my external midi keyboard to accommodate more sounds in one scene? For example, I want to assign the split range as follows: Modx - Bottom C to Middle C - Piano Sound Modx- Middle C to Top C - Saxophone MIDI Keyboard - Bottom C to Middle C - Electric Piano (from MODX library) MIDI Keyboard - Middle C to Top C - Flute (from MODX library) If yes, a tutorial will be highly appreciated. Thank you, Love from India.
@@TonyWinston This is the problem in my case. I want to set on Pa5X chords to be played on MONTAGE in arpeggios. YAMACHA has beautiful arpeggios and it would be nice to play them off the KORG Pa5X in the background.
Well done, Tony! You explain this very well. In my setup I would like to use Synth apps on iPad (instead of your Kurzweil). Will your approach work as well? (Using Audiobus and Mididlow)
This video is fantastic! Do you have a similar one showing how to make the Montage send program changes to another keyboard, I am basically wanting to use the montage as a master keyboard to be the ONLY keyboard that I touch to change both my keyboards over! (Even if a song im playing doesnt use the montage and uses my second keyboard, I STILL want to create a patch on the montage with the same name so that I can just press the montage to get my second keboard to change to the correct patch)
Yamaha said the modx has after touch but you need another keyboard that has it. They said the modx tone generator responds to after touch so that's why you need the keyboard with it.
This is really helpful, i was wondering if it was going to be as easy as that. Didnt you find the ‘init’ sound also played though? Obviously its a piano on top of another piano so not really noticeable in this case, but can you mute it so it so only the first patch and second synth makes a sound?
Thanks for the video, is it possible tell us how the keyboards are connected? That's the problem I've been struggling with. I'm trying to use my MODX as master with a Roland Fantom 07. Thanks.
Sorry just saw this 4 years later - I have a question please , I have Yamaha yc and Modx+ , I am looking to setup the Modx to send patch change messages only !!! To the YC so I have all my songs named in the live set so when I select a song it will change the patch on the YC for me , The problem I’m having is I want the sounds independent not layered I need to stop the mox from layering with the YC maybe with a receive note off filter on the mox but I can’t find any any ideas please ? Thank You
Very helpful. My Montage 7 shows up tomorrow. Woohoo! I would like to connect my Moxf6 to my new Montage to send a specific patch to the Moxf6 while performing for Moxf6 soloing. Context: The Montage would be the master, but based upon my live set list, whatever song I'm playing, it would be preprogrammed in live mode to auto send the next patch to moxf so that the correct solo patch for that song will always be sent to the moxf6 when the next song on the Montage is ready to be performed. Sounds complicated, but is it? Thanks.
You can do it . If you run into trouble, I'll try to help you, I have a motif xf which should be similar. I dont think you should follow this video exactly, set up a separate part for the info to be sent to the moxf. I should do a new video since I have changed the way I set up the modx. Actually, at around 9 minutes, I show the best way to set up the modx.
couldn't figure out how you did it, couldn't see what you were selecting. I don't know why you have to select a part to transmit on a channel. Why can't it just be set up to transmit on channel 2 regardless of parts? This doesn't make any sense.
Thanks for the great video. I am controlling a Kronos from the moDX. The problem I’m having is how to only hear the Kronos. You can adjust the volume of the Kronos but if I want to turn down the volume of the moDX and only hear the slave keyboard I can’t do that other than shutting off the local. Any thoughts?
Per patch, you can just select local off by turning "Zone" on and "Int SW" Off, then the local sound on the MODX will not play. But if you need to use a preset on the MODX, all of a sudden it's playing the other keyboard as well, because that's the default. Tried this many times - no solution (as per Tony Winston) because on the MODX you can't set the midi channel per part (midi in) and you cant stop the midi out on anything but the keyboard channels. I used to have a Fantom as the main kbd and a v-synth as secondary. The vsynth would only change programs when directed by specific programs on the Fantom, because I set up one channel to send midi pgm change, but had a note range of C9 to C9, so nothing out except pgm change - great for live performance. Dial up a performance on the Fantom, and the VSynth already there. Now (MODXy Primary and Fantom Secondary), I can't stop the Fantom playing notes when I play the MODX, if I want to send just pgm change. Solution might be this: www.midisolutions.com/prodrte.htm - provides a filter so I can stop the notes (too bad if I want to layer). Note: This is only if I am using performance that I have not programmed myself.
I haven't tried this yet (I'm looking into slave modules because of this video), but it seems if you have the midi/program send on an unassigned strip (like Tony shows how to do using "Init" in this video), you should be able to use the fader just like you would for any performance part.
Hi, I need an advice. For avoid latency is better to connect my master keyboard to PC and through the PC controlling the external synth sounds while I play masterkeyboard, or should I connect the masterkeyboard directly into the external synth via midi? Does the latency change in this case??

Hi, sorry for the late response, but I'm also looking for a way to do this. Did you figure out how this works?
Hi, you explained it nicely. And how to control the other way ? That is, Master Keyboard to MODX ?
A difficult problem. I haven't worked on that.

midi cable. don't have a roland so can't help you there. You'll figure it out !

Hello, out of curiosity are you using MIDI IN/OUT leads or are you using a USB lead?
MIDI
Will this work with the USB ?? @@TonyWinston
I don't know, sorry.

I've a problem, when I go trough the init process the piano from init plays also.... any solutions?

Does the “no assign” second part count as one of the four parts allowed for seamless sound switching?
I don't think so but not really sure. Some of my patches switch seamlessly and some don't for no apparent reason.

Yeah, no solution, I just do that for rehearsal, I use a small mixer when I perform with 2 kbds
