Hi there. What a fantastic job you are doing explaining everything so well in English. My question is based on watching this video and your other one about building your own villa for less money. If you build your own villa cost effectively for 180k usd... but as soon as it is completed it is valued at 280k usd at current market price... have you satisfied the criteria for citizenship as the villa is worth over 250k usd or ... it falls below because you actually built it for 180k usd?

    Hi there, great video/s.
I’m looking to do something once I retire.
I’m seriously thinking about buying a property to live in Turkey (2 bed apartment). Once I settle in, learn the language, and have an opportunity to look around, I want to buy a second property which is bigger (3 bed). I then want to short term holiday let out the first property once I move into the larger property. The idea is to earn money from property 1 whilst I live in property 2.
    Can this be done?

    • @ThinkTurkey

Yes ofcourse. There is a huge increasing demand in Istanbul and Antalya for short term rentals, long term rentals have also gone up but returns are more average for that. A 1 bed or 2 bed apartment will be ideal for short term rentals.

Here in Turkey lots of foreigners have bought and sold homes with no issues of transferring money out of the country. You can easily transfer the money from your Turkish USD account for e.g. to your home country's USD account via wire transfer without any issues.

The other option is to get the property joint under both your names and both of you can get a residence permit (NOT citizenship). This allows you to live there for as long as you like, you can keep renewing your residence permit every 2 years.

      2. Eskisehir is a nice student town, built around the university there. I wouldn't advise it as a prime investment spot. As you said 5 years stay is required for nationality eligibility, what if a child who spends 5 year with the family but in 4th year of stay he is 18, will he be eligible for nationality at the age of 19? Will his years of stay be counted?

Nope that's the advantage of utilizing those investment pathways - you don't have to be living in Turkey. And you'll get your citizenship within 3-6 months. They will put a hold on your bank account for 3 years, after that time period has passed you can remove your funds.

Hello thanks for your comment. I'm confused about the question. Get citizenship by sending kids to Turkish school? If that was your question and I understood it correctly, then answer is definitely NO you cannot get citizenship by sending your kids to a Turkish school in Turkey.
To get citizenship you have to either:
      1. Buy/build property worth $250,000 USD
      OR
      2. Buy property of any value and live in Turkey for over 5 years
