  • In this video I go over just how easy it is to install the newest DIY Mini-Split from MRCOOL. If you're installing one of these on anything other than a brick wall, it should only take a few hours max. Even with drilling a 3 inch old through my exterior brick wall, I was done with this entire install in an afternoon.

    One minor point, you should have saved wrapping the lines until after you leak tested them.

    I am 3 days away from installing my 18k MrCool unit and can't wait. I've been watching a ton of these videos. Thank you for your video as well. Just curious where you live? In my state, we require having an outlet at the AC Disconnect. Regardless, great video! Keep 'em coming!

    They didn’t recommend caulking the outside or inside outside flange to weather seal?

    • @KeyWoodworks
      @KeyWoodworks  Год назад +2

      Ya know, if they did, I missed it in the instructions. That’s a good idea though and I think I’ll do that today!

    You are definitely going to want to provide an additional filter for your intake on top. I think Jay Bates built a good one. Anyways, I didn’t in a timely manner and I’m paying for it.

      You’re right, and not long ago I added a couple filters and just put them on top.

    Hi. Thanks or the video. Most of the Mr Cool's come with 25' of refrigerant lines. What did you do with your excess lengths, since yours appears to need only maybe 10-12'?

    • @KeyWoodworks
      @KeyWoodworks  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching. The excess is just left coiled up behind the outside unit. I’ve seen some people use a spare tire cover to cover it up.

    Hey Nick. Why the adapters on the SDS? And, did that hole saw have teeth on the leading teeth, or just ‘diamond’? If diamond only, that hole saw was probably meant for tile, not brick.

    • @KeyWoodworks
      @KeyWoodworks  Год назад +2

      I had to get the chuck adapter because the hole saw I picked up wasn’t sds plus and it said it was meant for masonry so 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @denisoriordan6739
      @denisoriordan6739 Год назад +1

      @@KeyWoodworks For masonry holes of that size, we normally use a carbide toothed hole saw on an SDS arbor with at least a 1/2” pilot, so you can shove a bar in & give it a whack to crack the masonry. Plug comes out in one piece & you continue drilling. 5 minute job to get through 2 x 4” leaves of concrete block. Arbor about €30, 3” hole saw about €20. And if you’re not lazy like Jason you could use it again to install 4 more. #ShopsoundsBaby. 😂

      See that’s where a professional and I differ…I’m just an idiot in a garage 🤣…and Jason is just an idiot in a bigger garage #ShopSounds 😜

    Are you EPA-608 certified? Did you torque the connections to proper specs? Did you do a leak check? As a professional, I would not work on any Mr cool systems, as they promote illegal installations. I and the professional techs are EPA certified.

    • @number1pappy
      @number1pappy Год назад +2

      Isn't the point of DIY mini split systems that one doesn't need a licensed professional to install it? I'm sure for people who can't afford to pay a pro 10 grand or more to install a new hvac system in their house, appreciate these kinds of systems. Is it your opinion that people who can't afford traditional hvac should just go without heating and cooling because the government has made it impossible for hvac contractors to make a decent profit without upcharging the systems they install 🤔

    • @leealtmansr.3811
      @leealtmansr.3811 Год назад

      @Number1Pappy my point is WHY do I (we HVAC/R techs) have to meet that certification and you (any diy) don't?

    • @number1pappy
      @number1pappy Год назад +1

      @Lee Altman Sr. oh, I get it! I feel your pain. You had to study and work hard for your license, and you also with the threats of fines and possibly jail time follow a set of pre determined rules and regulations! Then, a company comes along and is allowed to sell DIY hvac systems to the general public, thereby bypassing you and hurting your bottom line! To answer your questions, though.
      I personally think they might be working with a loophole in the rules by having pre-charged lines, but this is only a guess. I believe a wise man once said back in the 80s ,"Government isn't the solution. Government is the problem"!!!
      I believe his name was Ronald Reagan. This is why I don't blame the DIY people, I blame the government! If I couldn't afford all the inflated overpriced installs, hvac contractors are being forced to charge. You can bet your bottom dollar. I'd be installing a mini split in a heartbeat in my home. I personally wouldn't allow myself or my family to suffer because of some ridiculous EPA regulation. But that's just me....

      You must hate Home Depot,the church of DIY for unlicensed homeowners to bypass expensive tradesmen….like electricians,HVAC,Plumbing etc….next thing you know the government will outlaw driveway oil changes.
