    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    I cannot take my eyes off her!!!! It's hard to imagine that a beauty such as Ms.Dandridge walked this earth, she was a stunning and rare beauty, that literally takes your breath away. No wonder she transcended boundaries, because her talent had none!!! Turning down the roll in The King and I, would have made her one of the biggest stars ever. Richard Zanuck in a two year process was going to have Dorothy Dandridge one of the greatest names to ever cross the silver screen. But in the words of Diahaan Carroll, she was the wrong color at the wrong time. Her legacy lives on through her majestic royal beauty. In my book, she will never be surpassed! Thank you ❤️ Ms.Dandridge for showing me what Black is , true excellence.

    I was very curious about her. I looked her up and this is what I found.
    Dorothy Jean Dandridge was an American actress, singer, and dancer. She is the first African-American film star to be nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Actrss, which was for her performance in Carmen Jones. Dandridge performed as a vocalist in venues such as Cotton Club and Apollo Theater. In the 1960's Dandridge's life and career was wracked by divorce, personal bankruptcy, and the absence of offers of work. At age 42 she was found dead in her Hollywood apartment, either a suicide or a accidental drug overdose. She was also good friends with Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. There is a Dorothy Dandridge documentary found on her page about 45 minutes long, if you're interested. I just saw the beginning, but I'll watch it later.

    ‘’Carmen Jones” and “Porgy and Bess”.However, in those days, they dubbed everyone ; singer or not.Not that I’m complaining
    and there were some actors that I wish had been dubbed, e.g. Marlon Brando and Vanessa Redgrave, to name two.Thank you.

      Not really a 1st-rate production of the work by MGM, especially when compared to its other major music projects...the inferiority of the copies is merely a consistent reflection of this fact. Poitier did not want to do the movie and he frequently sited it as his least favorite; he did it though because it allowed him to do "The Defiant Ones."

    • @MostlyBrenda
      @MostlyBrenda 2 года назад +2

      I have since learned that the Lincoln Center in New York screened a copy of the film in 2019 as part of a new production of the opera. So a good complete copy does exist. The rumor has always been that Ira Gershwin hated the film and that he and later the estate suppressed any further releases of it. Sam Goldwyn also refused any requests for copies from MGM. He considered it a complete failure and just wanted it to be forgotten.

    Dorthy Dainbridge & Marilyn Monroe were beautiful in their own way!! No comparison Also they were friends. Remember the time that they were in. Marilyn got more attention bcs it was a segregated world back then. That doesn’t make one better than the other! Both were beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
