@@roygbiv9038 when did I say this song is K-Pop? I never said the song they’re singing is K-pop. I’m pointing out that K-Pop fans should know the history of the Kim Sisters. Again, where did I say in my previous comment that this song is K-Pop???
I've admired for years how Ed Sullivan fought to allow black acts to perform on his show back when local network affiliates didn't want him to, and through being subscribed to this channel and seeing how many times Ed booked the Kim Sisters (despite never being huge chart sensations), I've realised they must've been beneficiaries of his racial tolerance as well. I imagine most white people in the US at the time would've rarely seen Asian people on TV (other than the news), so getting to know the Kim Sisters through repeat performances like this must have been a big deal.
@@Youdontknowwhatliterallymeans I wasn't aware of that Bonanza character, though from researching him it appears he was a very minor part of the show (even if he became very popular regardless). Other than the Kim sisters and Hop Sing then, not many Asian folks on TV in the US then.
@@Youdontknowwhatliterallymeans no one was obsessed with race but no one can deny the fact that back then no one thought about talented performers that happened to be people of color
You may not agree but I'd say even one top 10 American hit, especially in as competitive an environment as our entertainment industry reflects, qualified them as huge chart sensations. This the Kim Sisters accomplished in 1962 when their version of The Coasters song "Charlie Brown" reached number seven on the Billboard singles chart. Their Ed Sullivan performance of this tune is here on RUclips now.
They were not the first Korean female group but one of the very early Korean girl groups. They debuted in Korea in 1953 and then moved into and debuted in the US in 1959. They appeared at Ed Sullivan Show exactly 22 times. After 1970, they had gigs in Korea and the US and then disbanded in 1975 .
They were the first K-pop girl group before current and well-known K-pop girl groups like Blackpink, Twice, Girls Generation/SNSD, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, T-ara, S.E.S, etc.... If it wasn't for the Kim Sisters we might not have K-pop as we known today.
Sensational, they look Beautiful, their dresses are gorgeous... and their voices always sound fantastic! Unbelievable.. What can these women not play?! They have Climbed Ev'ry Mountain ! 🌈💙 Thank you for sharing! 💖
I think it’s amazing how their outfits, makeup, lashes, and hair looks like any typical person these days would wear!! Times have changed, but wow! I think it’s neat how similar some looks were back then
I wonder if The Supremes, Andrew Sisters, McGuire Sisters watched them or liked them.. They were Incredible.. A new fan here.. As usual, late in life.. lol
How about the Pointer Sisters? I would assume there was a TV set in the Pointer home in Oakland, Calif. Were they ever on Sullivan, or did they get started too late for Ed's show? I am sure they would have been invited to the show due to their immense talent.
@@WPM_in_ATL Love The Pointer Sisters, but their commercial success came a few years after The Ed Sullivan show ended. I thin the show went off the air in late 1971 after like 17 18 years.
"The Sound of Music" is the best unknown Movie (incl the Trapp Family Story) in Austria for sure...and i am from Vienna, Austria 😉 But i like the Kim Sisters👍
There seems to be a pattern with how videos are posted. We have been inundated with songs from "The Sound Of Music", which makes me wonder if the ES archives has to get clearance to songs. Once they get that clearance, then all songs performed of those compositions are made available. The music industry does us viewers/listeners no favors with all of the red tape involved with postings songs. Regulations need to be changed for all songs to be in the puiblic domain after 50 years so we can get back to celebrating the arts instead of endlessly fighting over royalties.
What a show and performance! And all the work, imagination and rehearsal that went into it. Also proves it's possible for a man to love three women at once. Tennessee
Yes, I have five grand children and they are my trophy and they love my cooking and I have two beautiful children Anthony and Marisa and I'm married 56 years with John Italian man learned how to cook from his mother I make Spaghetti sauce from ground up, my family enjoys my cooking and love doing that. They could have been permanently significant and remembered if they had done pop and rock music. But they did traditional ole time ballads and Broadway music so they took themselves out of contention. The only exception being their remake of the coasters Charlie Brown The Supremes did a significant portion of ole time ballads and Broadway music too all of which Is forgotten or disregarded but since they did mostly soul, pop the Supremes are not forgotten.
