It's the top of a jar of jam and marmalade, Robinsons made all types of jams. They also had a paper golliwog, tucked in the back lable, we collected these, and sent away for enamelled broaches, with golly in different poses with different things in their hands. Gollies were available to buy from shops untill the late 70s in UK. I don't know if they are still available now. He was a much loved character.

I think that logo was stopped about two or three years ago they used to give little broches to the kids ,we still eat a lot of marmalade in Britain ,or make your own with Spanish bitter oranges ,beautiful on buttered toast for breakfast (can’t say gollywog anymore 😱) but Robertson’s still make lovely jams and marmalade 🤗

Nice finds Jason. That WH token I think is a Cracker Jacks token. I have found several aluminum Presidential Cracker Jack tokens with the description on the reverse. I've also found several of those Lucky tokens too. Cool Gollywog lid too. Happy Hunts. _/

The Golliwog logo (and the stuffed toy) were deemed as “politically incorrect” by government do-gooders in the 1990s, despite nobody but a few activists complaining, and a couple of generations of kids were deprived of their dolls and badges (but my daughter still has her Golliwog which she had as a baby)...
Hi Quarter hoarder marmalade is made from the pealing's of citrus fruit my mother was from Scotland so we always had it at home. sometimes people make it home made. It has a lot of flavor I like it. Maybe someone visiting Scotland brought it home with them.

The Golly rag dolls were popular over here right up to the 1970s. You can still get them today although as you can imagine, there is a lot of debate about whether it's an appropriate image these days. Great video guys, Ive been over a few times but never to detect. I'd love to come and look for civil war relics. 👍

Black Memorabilia is collectible even by some black people who want to understand their pasts good and bad. We are very sensitive to materials now considered racist but they are part of our history. Although a questionable image today, that cap should be considered within the context of it's time. I remember the late forties and fifties quite well and the humor then was rough, not only Blacks', but Italians, Irish, Jews had images in cartoons and comics which are now offensive. regards that lid...I believe the company may later have been rebranded as 'Robertson's'. They used to provide tokens for you to exchange for a Golliwog stuffed toy/badge. I believe there was a range of them and that went on well into the 1980s. It's fair to say, they dropped that particular branding since about the early to mid 1990s.
In England I have found a few Golly Wog badges. They are basically a black figure who on the badge is taking part in various activities ie football tennis golf playing guitar etc. Some are rare and expensive.
