  • In this video, you will learn 3 types of Wing design you can make in CATIA V5.
    Most commonly used commands here in this video are Padding & Multi section solid from Part design module and also some commands from Generative Shape Design module.
    The NACA database(download airfoil co-ordinates from here) - www.airfoiltools.com
    0:00 - Intro
    00:36 - Thick wing
    Thick wing is designed by keeping in mind when the requirement of wing is thick and a rough airfoil shape is acceptable. It is then simply extruded and given various supports.
    04:58 - Thin wing
    Thin wings generally can be noticed on RC airplanes and helicopter rotor blades. Here, they are designed by importing the airfoil cross section from airfoil database of NACA. The CSV file of these co-ordinates is then imported through Macros from MS-Excel.
    10:48 - Swept wing with winglet
    The most complex, modern, efficient and widely used wing is the Swept wing. Here again 3 airfoil profiles are imported on different planes and shape is generated by multi-section solid command.

    Hey man if you are still replying can you tell me how to make a curved Trailing edge after importing the airfoil from NACA website. Because sharp edge structurally gives us high stress concentration on the edges. And also how to rotate that imported geometry. Please it would help a lot.

    • @MechStuff

      Hello! You can draw profiles and simply extrude them in a similar fashion as shown in the video while modelling the 1st type of wing :)

    heey how can we measure the CL and CD of an airfoil ??

    • @MechStuff
      @MechStuff  2 года назад

      Of an airfoil OR of the wing? Because both are different things🤷🏼‍♂️
      Of an airfoil(it is 2D), you can head to airfoiltools.com and search your airfoil name/NACA number and get the values.
      Wing, which is 3D, you will have to do a CFD simulation in ANSYS or OpenFOAM or any other applications.

    Bro how to import the airfoil in an inclined plane bro?

    • @MechStuff
      @MechStuff  3 года назад +1

      Good question! Pretty daunting task actually..
      A shortcut would be making the airfoil and then transforming it to whatever angle you desire..
      OR
      Make a new plane & try copying the sketch onto the new plane

    • @abhilashm6711
      @abhilashm6711 3 года назад

    OMG, man! I really like your videos, they are precise and well explained, but the way you pronounce "t" at the end of the words is really annoying. I don't mean to be rude and I would guess it's probably because of how you pronounce it in your native language (which I know nothing about...EDIT: now I see you are from India.), but I would suggest trying to place your tongue softly to the upper teeth when pronouncing it - if that makes sense.
    I hope I don't disturb you with this comment, but if I do - just tell me and it will be deleted. My best regards!

    • @MechStuff

    • @PappaBear_yt

      @@MechStuff I apologize for being so straight forward, but throughout the video it gets hard to listen - and you are really good at explaining, so I don't want to turn the volume down.
      It's not a big problem, just sounds strange to my ears - I will adapt in time.
      Best regards and thank you for your work!
