They were so good they didn’t even have to plug in their guitars. I remember getting my VH cassette for Christmas back in 84 when I was 13 and playing it loud in my boom box. Those were the good days for sure. Great music, friends that I hung out with and rode bikes with from morning till mom came to find me, pretty girls and their poofy Aqua Net hair, most of my relatives were still living back then and my family was close knit back then unlike now. Now at 51 life seems so boring compared to then.
I hear ya man…I’m 60 now and looking back there are great memories but comparing them to today I feel growing up in the 70s and 80s was the best time ever.

Saw this tour 1980 New Haven Coliseum. They were unbelievable !!! They're the best live band I've ever seen. That includes the Fair Warning tour that followed in 1981.
Saw them on this tour as well at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. Definitely one of the best concerts, row four on the floor but was at the crush barrier the entire show.
The powers that be always forced them and our other favorite bands of the day to use backing tracks on these types of events. Dave’s ego can’t let him stop tracking the cameras even for a second, it was a good performance, regardless of Dave’s mess ups. He was the best little thing in spandex and fake, goat fur, snow bunny boots. V/H is still so much widely loved by all the world, there songs are classics and they get a whole new fan base with every next, young generation. RIP Edward…. taken from us all way to soon. 🌹

I was overseas on a Destroyer in the Navy when the first Van Halen album came out and someone got it in a care package or something. We played it and couldn’t believe what we heard! Was that all guitar??? WTH?? The most amazing sounds we’d heard since Hendrix! And I say “Rock On!”
When I saw the fire extinguishers attached to the drum kit and I thought any drummer that is worried enough about catching fire to keep a fire extinguisher handy, had to be epic!
lip-syncing was common back in the early 80s, and going back into the 60s. It was all about getting in front of your audience on TV and playing your hot song, not doing it live, which required a lot more production. Lip-syncing still goes on today more than you may notice, watch for it

Don't know why this never occurred to me to ask, but do you know how they did the drums? Obviously the electric instruments can be unplugged (a lot of times they didn't even use cords, lol). How did they silence the drums?

I just saw a clip of Dave performing live in 2023 (yellow zuit suit). The comments about his performance were brutal. But many fans were defending Dave by remembering how cool he was in the Van Halen days. However, after watching this clip it’s quite clear Dave has been a complete twatwaffle from the very beginning. If you’re bothered by that statement I suggest you take another look at this clip before you defend him. There’s simply no denying the man has always been a total dorkwad.
It’s always hollow when a band performs to a recording but when you went on a cheesy show like this sometimes sheet happens. Doesn’t really matter. VH gave a zillion rockn ass concerts so who really cares about this PR. It’s still kind of fun watching them so young up close ‘perform.’
