Love my Batumi. Had it for close to a decade. Got a few fresh ideas from this video. I like using Batumi as a drum sequencer, such a versatile module, pairs really nice with a precision adder too. I agree, the expander is essential. Thanks, great informative video.
ive been waiting forever fo samara ii to come back in stock in the states, finally just decided to grab one from thomann and it actually came out cheaper! excited to play around wih these ideas and so much more!
Love this! Very informative with so many useful tips and ideas on how to practically and creatively use the Module. I would love to see you do one of these videos for the Xaoc Devices Zadar!!
That phase modulation idea for drum triggers sounds great for creating wonky beats... you've got me trying to work out how I could do that myself with different gear!
Relatively late to Eurorack (three years *gulp*) and even later to Xaoc- got my Zadar just a few months back. However, I’ve just secured a good deal on a Batumi and expander and really looking forward to to it- plus I think my Klavis Mixwitch can handle a lot of what Samara is doing here… I can see myself returning to this video a few times- thanks for the great ideas!
Really interesting. Can I check - for the poly arpeggiator -are you using three quantisers or is there some way of generating the quantised values with one and then using to drive the voices?
Really enjoyed this. Learned a lot about the techniques to modulate modulation. Does Samara allow for increasing and decreasing volume of the modulation? I might be saying that weird, but what I am wanting is to make a modulation and what its modulating quieter at times and louder at times. Also, do you know of any other modules that does what Samara does? I think the voltage block. ould do it but not sure I want something that big in my case.
Yes, you can use Samara to attenuate any signal, including modulation. It’s not a VCA, though, so you can’t use another signal to control the amount of that attenuation - you can only control it manually. Voltage Block is a CV sequencer - there isn’t really much overlap with Samara that I can see. But there are lots and lots of other modules which offer the same basic functionality as Samara, i.e. attenuation, offset and mixing (but without the more advanced features like S&H, min/max and clamping, and sometimes with 2 or 3 channels rather than 4). Off the top of my head: Intellijel Duatt/Triplatt/Quadratt; Happy Nerding 3xMIA, Mutable Shades, Frap Tools 321, ALM O/A/x2, WMD 4tten.
Hmmm I know the Alm Pro Workout does more but this does make me want that hands on control. Mainly to use in to a quantiser. What reverb are we hearing. Thanks
If I remember rightly the reverb in these patches was added in Ableton - it varies a bit from patch to patch but I think most of them used Soundtoys Little Plate.
This is great. Can someone help me understand sending a trigger to the reset of the Batumi? How many triggers would it need to reset the cycle say every couple of bars? Does that make sense? I'm using Pamela's New Workout with a Gate.
@@pe00000001 That is true but I was specifically calling out green - negative. Cause you know... green - ground is the industry standard and common sense.
@@BlackMan614 Green is not a standard for ground, at least not in DC power setups where ground is black. You may be confusing it with AC networks where ground is yellow/green stripes. However, ground is not bound to any polarity. Not sure what the point is.
Hi, fairly good videos, only one thing, like Didvkid in his beginnings, you speak too fast, keep calm, and your message reach more audience that only native-english speakers. Thanks.
Yeah, that's a fair point. I do speak quite fast in real life so I'll do my best to slow down a bit for future videos. In the meantime, you could try it at 0.75 speed if it's a real problem! :)
So many ways of using it that I really hadn't thought about... Thanks for the upload and all the ideas.

Great video with plenty of creative ideas. I loved the brilliant trick of +5V shifting three CVs by patching -5V to inverting inputs of Samara.
I appreciate you mentioning that it took you a couple weeks to come up with all of these patches. I’m newly excited to turn to my own Batumi, now.

i really like the way you explain things, and use lots of examples to showcase, coolio

That triple arp patch is awesome!!
I wish I appreciated my Samara II when I had it. I was too new🤦♂️
I think you might not be only one like that. I was too new when I bought an arbhar and gave it back...
Great video, always new techniques to learn even with foundational concepts 👏👏

Hmm, I see that both phase and delay on Pam's are modulatable via CV1 and CV2... [stroking beard emoji]
Brilliant video. I really need to show more love to my Batumi. And probably get a Samara as well…
Indredibly useful video, cheers!

so inspiring ideas here, thanks!!
Thank you Tom, great advices and tips.
Nice video! There surprisingly aren't too many video's out there on Batumi tutorials.
Waiting for Samara 2. Tks for the video 👌
Samara is such a lacking informatively Module
I’m glad to see this
Cheers
Cheers for this great vid
An excellent and inspirational tutorial. Thanks
Really interesting. Can I check - for the poly arpeggiator -are you using three quantisers or is there some way of generating the quantised values with one and then using to drive the voices?
I'm using three quantisers (via three channels of the Quantermain app in Ornament and Crime)

@@TomChurchill That makes sense about Voltage Block and thanks for the other module suggestions.
Thx ! Good job 👌
Great deep dive! Thank you!!
Great vids !! For the Polymetric triple arpeggiator , which Quantizer are you using for the 3 Lfo's coming from Batumi via Samara ?
Thanks! The quantiser is the Quantermain app in Ornament & Crime 👍
mmm nice, with multiple inputs and outputs. Thanks !@@TomChurchill

To reset it every two bars with a gate from PNW, you just need to set the PNW channel modifier to /8 and patch it to the reset input.
Thanks!
Great ideas here. Thanks Tom!
Bought a Batumi and just assumed Samara II was the logical extension. Only thing I don't get... why is 'green' negative voltage? Love your video!!
Red=positive/hot is the industry standard and common sense

I'm letting my Batumi watch this video to show it some possible (less random) life goals 😂

Lol😂
thank u
LFO? What does the "L" shape mean?
Not sure if I've understand the question, but LFO = low frequency oscillator
Very grateful to have come upon your channel. But boy you talk fast 😅.
Thanks - and sorry, this was a particularly rapid one. I’m working on slowing down a bit! 😀
Excellent ,-
Hell yes.
I have to be careful watching your videos. You do such a good job demonstrating these modules that my wallet tried to hide under the desk!
