Also Canadian East Coast. But I went on CPP Disability many years ago and I have not found my"groove".So I'm listening. The only consistent thing I have is going to the gym 3 times a week.
I retired and sell ice skating dresses on Ebay. I priced my dresses reasonably. $29 to $39 each with tons of crystals. I love the sport and I like to help kids to have a nice competition dress. I really enjoy that.
What a great little business! I am impressed…I can’t even sew on a button never mind a skating outfit. I guess I can say RUclips is my business now except I make no money at it 😃
As a single female living in Canada, I am very happy to have stumbled upon your channel. I’m 50 and since i turned the corner into my 50’s i am more focused on my future/retirement. Your sound is good - there’s a tiny amount of echo - but it’s not distracting. Your camera is well placed and focused. Your points are clear and interesting. When i think about what my retirement will look like, I think of walking to the gym to train (I’m a power lifter), playing with animals either of my own or at a shelter, talking to strangers - which I do now and enjoy. I don’t know what else I’ll do with my time away from work. I do want to travel and the things I want to do in my retirement can be done in any country. I look forward to your future videos and sharing your adventures.
Oh my goodness thank you for watching. Welcome here. Ha ha, 50 just sounds so young to me now! Thank you for commenting on the sound. I’m really having a hard time with my sound. I have a very good microphone system, but sometimes it does not come across that well. I have now figured out that my editing software can actually improve the sound of my videos so I’m starting to use that and I’m hoping that will help. I used to do powerlifting as well up until two years ago. Now I kind of just do at home workouts and I walk and I run almost every day. When I was doing the powerlifting I got such a bad case of tendinitis in my elbow and it took almost a year to get rid of it. So now I’m like super scared to do it again. I mainly focus on dumbbells.
@@smallretiredlife thanks for the response. I’d love to know more about where you do your investing and any suggestions you have for places to do investing/coats. There is a lady with a channel from BC called Silver and Solo. She talks about retiring as a single person etc. How do you manage repairs to your home? I rent and though it seems like a waste of money, I have been here for 7 years now and rent has gone so high that I can’t move. I also don’t have money to put on a down payment for a home. I work from home. Are you able to claim some of your housing costs for work due to the RUclips channel like I do with my business? I know you said your channel isn’t monetized yet but can you save up the start up costs to claim later? Thanks again for putting yourself out there and being open. It gives me hope. I’ve honestly been searching the world (via the internet) to figure out where I could afford to retire.
Aww, thank you so much. Doing videos is hard work! But since I am retired and I have time on my hands, this is an opportunity to learn something new. I’m enjoying the creative part of it and trying not to stress about the number of views and subscribers and so on…at this point anyways. For me, remembering to turn on my microphone while I’m filming is a bonus in life.
Hi Raina. Well done with this video. Starting is always the first hurdle but you did it! I finally decided to retire 5 days ago. It was a huge decision but, in the end, I decided to invest myself fully in this latter phase of my life. To look after my health and well-being and enjoy a gentler, more relaxed way of life. I too am thinking about starting a RUclips channel but not quite yet. 5 days from a decision to retire is still a bit too soon to be clear on the details of my life going forward! But I’ll get there. I’ve subscribed because I’m interested in your journey and can hopefully learn from your experiences. All the best.
Congratulations on your retirement. I absolutely love being retired. It’s the best thing ever. But I agree after only five days. It’s best not to make any huge decisions rather just enjoy.
You can do this! Keep up the great work! I find myself at a point in life where retirement will happen sooner than I realize because life happens in the blink of an eye. I appreciate videos from others that are retired so I will be better prepared for the future. Definitely subscribing!
I am still working, soon 58, reflecting on the coming years when i will retire, perfect vidéo for me. I m french but cannot seem to find any similar subjects spoken about by French people. The only subject about retirement here is the financial side. I think retirement is much more than this. Thank you 😊
I definitely have a lot of videos planned and not all of them are about financial stuff. Retirement is definitely not about just finances. It’s absolutely the best thing ever. I love having the freedom to do what I want.
Oh plenty of subjects of interests ; how did you reajust your budget, your standard of living once retired ? What about your relationships with your Kids after all thèse évents you went through ? What are your new purpose in life now you re retired ? Any specific goals, projects for your retirement ? What place do you feel / think you have in société now ? Thanks 😊
Thank you for your channel.. I didn’t properly grieve after losing my job at 44. Everything changed. Can you teach more about investing and side gigs for woman my age? Thank you!
Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment. Definitely will think about how to do an investing video. it’s tricky because I’m not an investment advisor and I don’t want to give financial advice on what kind of investments to buy, but I can do something that focusses on things that I do.
Thank you for watching and I will definitely think about doing a video on something like that. Maybe a little bit later as I kind of get more into my process because right now, to be honest, I’m flying by the seat of my pants!
Hi Raina! Congratulations on your first video. It looks really great! I'm over 50 and have been thinking of starting a RUclips channel myself, so I too like to watch other people's first videos and see how they progress. I see that this video is only a month old and it already has ads. I guess that means the channel is monetized? I would love to see more videos about your process with RUclips. How does one get started? What does it take to get monetized? How does one decide what to even talk about 😂 All the things Liked and subscribed...looking forward to watching the rest of your videos 😊
No, the channel is not monetized yet. But RUclips puts ads pretty much on all videos whether they’re monetized or not. I just don’t get the money for it. I guess RUclips does.
@@smallretiredlifeOhhhh...I see. Hardly seems fair 😅 It looks like you have enough subscribers. I don't fully understand how RUclips monetization works, but I look forward to learning more.
Your channel is so refreshing. I’ve already subscribed after watching your other videos. I am in my early 50s living in the UK and my thoughts recently have been my retirement. I have about 15 years left and I’m concerned I won’t have enough money in my retirement. I definitely won’t be able to retire early. I do have a workplace pension, but it isn’t enough to live off when I come to retire. I would be very interested if you could talk about investments and ETF funds. I am looking into investing in an ETF fund with Vanguard but would like your input and experience. I was subscriber number 289 and a few hours have passed since I started watching your channel you are now in the 350’s. You’ll be at 1000 subscribers before you know it!
If you’re looking into Vanguard, check their funds. It can very confusing. You might want to look into their growth index funds, large scale mutual funds and a bit of international funds. The key there is diversification of your money into different sectors. Mutual funds are very well diversified. To understand better, read a bit about the investments the company offers. I’m not a financial advisor, I worked in the medical field but I like money so I read simple books and magazines on money matter. It’ll inspire you to save and be frugal. I read How to be an Automatic Millionaire. I read and listen to Dave Ramsey though I do not practice his theory on credit cards. Credit cards work the best IF you know how to handle, meaning pay it off every month which the general population don’t practice.
Thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment. Welcome here. I’m really hesitant to talk about actual investments because there seems to be such a difference from country to country. I am able to buy Vanguard funds here in Canada on the stock exchange. I don’t own any because we have a lot of Canadian ETFs that I am more familiar with. Most of the ETFs I own are either Blackrock or ones that are owned by the banks here. But I’ll definitely think about doing something in kind of a broad term form because I am getting a lot of comments with people interested in that kind of thing. All I can say about retirement is that I was surprised at how little money I actually need to live a very happy life! But that comes with the caveat that I don’t have debt.
Great channel! I will be 67 fairly soon and at that point I will be able to retire. I will be a solo traveller in retirement, too. I'm looking forward to more vlogs! Good luck
So exciting for you. I admire anyone who travels solo! It’s challenging yet at the same time you can do whatever you want and see what you want to see …not having to compromise is kinda nice sometimes 😂.
I am 62 and have been retired for 3 years. My husband of 26 years passed away almost 8 years ago and to say it's been a struggle is such an understatement. I find myself with no identity - no longer a wife, no longer a mom to children, no longer a teacher - all the things I always considered my reason for being here. So much well meaning advice out there - find a new relationship, travel, join support groups, take a class - blah blah blah. Been there, done that. Nothing seems very exciting so I find myself alone A LOT. Most of my friends and a lot of family just disappeared after my husband died and without work, it's next to impossible to meet people. I consider myself a fairly independent strong introvert so while I've always appreciated time to myself to recharge, it's a whole different ballgame when it's all day, every day. So I live in a form of existence at this point, which of course is no way to live. Thanks for creating a channel that gives a voice to our experiences.
Gosh what a sad story. I don’t really think anyone can totally tell you what to do and even suggestions are just really hard. I think part of it is that you just have to get through the journey and you eventually do get to the other side. It’s just that everybody has a different path and a different way that they get there. I found Ryan Holiday’s book “the obstacle is the way” really helped me, but more because the type of guidance he gives resonates with my personality type.
Your story is my story. I thought I was the only one that felt this way. My husband of 33 years passed away 14 years ago and since then, I have felt invisible. I have returned to a part time job to try and feel the void. I hope you find peace and joy on your new path!
My daughter played piano growing up starting at age 7. I sometimes wonder how difficult it would be to learn as a senior. I miss listening to her music 🎼

Thank you sooooo much for supporting my channel. I am going to check out yours. I have to say everything sounded great in my head but getting out verbally was a lot harder.😂
You will get there- the reason that many don't like the sound of your own voice is that it sounds inauthentic, because you are used to hear it from the inside. But the people that love you have heard you this way all your life. :-)
Thank you so much for your comment. Absolutely makes me feel better. I’m sure you’re like spot on. It’s just the weirdest thing to hear yourself on a monitor speaking.
