To make me feel better, my older friend by a few years told me that if no one is watching, then I can do/act however I want! Lol that helped a bit. But for me it happened so fast like the switching of a light! One day I fell young and the next day it flipped. It was a rough adjustment

    Another question I have - for someone who has very little time or interest in investing, would simply investing in an index fund be a relatively safe investment that provides good returns?

    • @smallretiredlife
      @smallretiredlife 11 часов назад

      Basically what people call an index fund is actually typically an ETF. All it means is it is following an index…in Canada in can be the TSX60 or any of the other indices compiled by the S&P. in the U.S. it’s typically an ETF that follows the S&P 500 or other S&P compiled indices trading as ETFs on U.S. exchanges. You can have real index funds as well. Here in Canada those often have minimum investment criteria.

  • @wootandhammy
    @wootandhammy 13 часов назад

    I'm 58, female, I use my "invisibility" to go about my day. If I want to be visible, a bright coloured top or make-up achieve that. What used to freak me out in my early 50's was when I was sitting in a coffee shop. I would ocassionally catch an older man in his 60's or 70's eyeing me up. I found that uncomfortable as I had previously only been used to younger men being interested. I guess as we get older we start to attract a different market. I was uncomfortable the first few times it happened, now I think it is hilarious.

    At age 59 1/2, my "Position was eliminated" after almost 30 years in the Semiconductor industry. I was recovering from a radical prostatectomy and about a week from returning to work when I got the word from my very cool and understanding manager that I was done. I was planning on retiring about two months later so I think they just eliminated the full-time to part time transitional paperwork and just let me go. They probably wanted to hire younger, lower paid employees to do the stressful work. I was happy and honestly, a little nervous... By chance, our neighborhood in southeast NY was being bought out by the ever-expanding Jewish community so with a great offer on our home, we took it, packed up and bought a home in northeast FL away from the coast. We have no mortgage and as long as the next "administration" doesn't destroy Democracy and the currently thriving economy, we should be living in comfort as we have for the last 18 months. Good luck to you!

    Hi Raina, another great video! I went down the “rabbit hole” of watching, reading, etc. to minimalism material beginning in 2014. Agree, our connections with material possessions is deeply rooted in our childhood, family members and our life experiences. I personally believe I learned a little something from each and every “research” piece I read & watched. In 2014, I began my journey working through every drawer, closet & cabinet in my home. I can only remember one item that I regretted to have donated. That item was replaceable but caused me to be a bit more cautious. My husband & I lived in our first home 10 years & moved everything to a home we built. We lived in that home 30 years & moved cross country nearly five years ago. I’m so glad I had already purged & downsized as we downsized from 3500 sq feet to 1800 sq feet. Packing was easy because I knew what was left, was going with us. The Minimalism documentary movie you mentioned was very impactful. To this day, I still follow the director of that documentary- Matt D’Avella. He just recently returned to RUclips after a hiatus. In case, you don’t post another video before Christmas, Merry Christmas!

    I learned many lessons from working with Helen Mirren on seasons 1 & 2 of the television show "1923." She is so inspiring. She is supportive and kind. She does stretching and yoga every morning. She has motivated me in so many ways. How to be kind, no matter what. But also, being vocal, and calling something or someone out if they are being unfair in any way. Mostly, I learned from her, we don't have to become "invisible." We are all important and have stories to share. I love your channel so much. Yes. We can continue to learn and it's okay to write a new story. Listen, be kind and share stories and love to as many as possible. It really is a cure for invisibleness and loneliness. Truly grateful to have found your channel.
